Nope, no bird of prey in your area can carry anything near Boy's size. Since you saw it in daylight and, as far as I know, you aren't near a body of water, it was probably a large hawk or maybe a buzzard. Despite their sometimes huge size, even the largest hawks can't carry more than 3-5 pounds. Buzzards don't carry prey away; they ground feed on dead things. If you had seen it at night, a large owl would be a possibility, but even the biggest of those generally won't take anything over a couple of pounds. A hawk or owl will definitely take tiny puppies or kittens weighing under 1 or 2 pounds. It was not a buzzard, I know what they look like. We have a lot of huge (to me) birds in this area, but I can’t really tell one bird from another. Except I know what crows sound like, which creeps me out, but seeing them, I can’t tell if it’s a crow or a blackbird. And one or the other, or both, live in the trees around me. I also know what owls look like, I’ve seen one sitting on an neighbor’s roof, and there was the small one I posted about last year, that we saw on the cameras, in our driveway. When I sit on the deck, sometimes I get the honor of watching huge birds floating in the air currents. If they look huge even at that distance, I’m pretty sure they are huge for real. I have pictures of one resting on the raggedy fence on the back of our property one Christmas Day, and Mister shared with me video of one that was feasting on some prey in our backyard and unbothered when he drive his car closer to get a better look. They might not be big or strong enough to carry Boy away, but the one today was big enough that I would’ve run, thinking it could carry ME away. Several years ago, DD was driving on the interstate when a huge bird swooped down, I guess to get some prey it spotted. But it miscalculated and DD hit it with her car and got creeped out because she didn’t see it in her rear view mirrors as she kept driving. She got off the e-way at the next exit, to go to a friend’s house, and her fears were confirmed when people at intersections were staring at her car. When she got to her friend’s house, her fears were confirmed, the huge bird was trapped in the grill of her car. It was like 9am, and when her friend saw the problem, he said he had to go drink some beer lol. He told DD, you know these white folks are gonna hem you up for killing this big ass bird that’s probably a protected species, right? LOL! But he got it off her car, apparently it broke its neck when it got caught in the grill of her car, so it wasn’t a bloody mess. I have pictures, I’ll try to find them. For future reference, I always love to see bird pictures!!! I got a hair up my ass last year and decided we were going to become birdwatchers. 2022 was hard and I wasn't really able to plan vacations for us to go and do. But, given where we live, it is easy to plan a day trip and hit up a birdwatching spot. I will say I am still not good at bird identification. But, me, DH, and my sibling have enjoyed it. Kiddo is meh on the bird part, but she has enjoyed the places we've gone to to bird watch. She actually likes the birds in the backyard more than anything else. Last year on Veteran's Day we went to a bird sanctuary. It's not like an enclosed place, it's just like a wooded park with boardwalks and stuff. We live in an area that is a migratory path for birds so bird watching in the fall and winter is totally a thing. Well, it was windy that day. We only saw two birds and we still are not sure of their identification. But you know what we did see? Monarch butterflies. We went bird watching slap dab in the middle of the butterfly migration. It was fascinating! There were just so many butterflies everywhere, Kiddo loved it. My sibling got better pics than either DH or I because they have a newer model phone. So yeah, I'm a birdwatcher gone wrong!

That's a nice pan Chiver, and not expensive. Unfortunately, they don't ship to Canada. If I see one at Canadian Tire or Walmart, I'll pick t u[p. that's why I made sure to say I grabbed mine at Walmart. I hope your store carries them, b/c it's phenomenal! I'm happy to ship you one, if you can't find one yourself.

Mrs. T just text me. Mr. T’s Mom passed and Mrs. T was letting me know that there will likely be a lot of cars in the cove after the funeral because he has a HUGE family. I don’t care about that, it’s fine with me. I have and will continue to pray for Mr. T and his family. I will also pray for your friends.

We all enjoyed seeing the colorful birds that visited the feeder. But after that first summer, she lost interest and I didn’t buy more bird seed until last summer. That package is still riding in the back of my Jeep. I also didn’t notice until after a couple of years living here, that there is a small man made birdhouse nestled in the trunk of the pecan tree in our back yard. Maybe I should do something to encourage birds to eat there? Idk, and the only thing I’ve done so far is leave it alone. I set up a birdbath in the back yard a couple weeks ago, and as far as I can tell, no birds are using it. I use to enjoy seeing the brightly colored birds that visited the feeder our first summer here. And I would enjoy watching them use the bird bath. I put something in it to make it like a bubbler, because I read that moving water can attract them. And I made a small pile of rocks that small birds or even bees can settle on to safely drink without drowning.

The largest American raptors can have wing spans up to 4-5 feet, but they can't lift or carry much weight. Those big wings just catch the air so they can ride the thermals, floating high in the air as you see them. In the fall we are in the flight path for the raptors heading south the winter, and we get to see something called a Mississippi kite, huge bird. Right now we have a nesting pair of red-tailed hawks about 4 blocks over and see them hunting everyday, squirrels and white-wing doves for the most part. We have several pair of crows in the area and I can always tell when they are moving around because all the other birds go crazy and start vocalizing. Crows are very beautiful and cool in their own way, but they eat the eggs and nestlings of other birds like doves, cardinals, blue jays and such, so those birds sound the alarm if they see a crow.

so I've said at least a few times, I wasn't one of the cool kids in school. I had my specific friends in my own class, but the majority of my friends were a class (or more) ahead of me. so when the opportunity presented itself for me to graduate early and start on college gen eds, I jumped on it. I joined FB kind of late, and started out super wary of HS classmates seeking to link up. at some point, I started accepting most, and giving them the opportunity to show their ass before I deleted them. it's mostly been a solid personal policy. tonight, I saw this from one of those "Mean Girls" that had turned into a functional adult. I'm having a very hard time not commenting about how life and perspective changes things. whoo....

Don't know what that little love triangle is about. Mourning doves. A pair. The last time I saw them, they were together again. But the three times before that I only saw one. Which was freaking weird. Because those birds really are stuck together. I was starting to worry but all of a sudden last time I saw them they were both together. Lots of chickadees and finches and mockingbirds. They are cute, but less impressive than the others.

My Mom just called me. We were both upset. And during the conversation she said something about Jesus and I said I keep praying for Him to help and guide me, but even though I understand that things could be so much worse for me than they are, I’m not really feeling the help from Him that I’ve been begging for. It scared the crap out of me to even say that out loud, because even with all the SHIT in my life, I still feel like I am blessed in many ways, and thinking like that, let alone saying it out loud, feels like I am ungrateful for all the blessings I do have. Blessings that I really am grateful for, because I am very well aware that things could be a whole lot worse for me.
It really upset my Mom’s nerves for me to be so honest, and she cried because of the things I said, not about her, but about God and my faith.
Sometimes lately, I seriously feel like I’m losing my fucking mind and going crazy.

Although many folks dislike squirrels, we welcome them along with the birds so we have two feeders I fill almost every day with a mix of bird seed called "Cardinal Feast" and shelled peanuts. That and two bird baths keep everyone happy including the possums that vacuum up any spills. Early next year I'll hang a finch feeder which draws the goldfinches during their migration. Bird watching is amazing, changing every season and every year. This year has seen a lot of woodpeckers along with all the usual suspects, white-wing dove, house finches, chickadees, cardinals, blue jays, mockingbirds, and wrens. And, yes, the songbirds do bring the raptors as well. Fall migration is only a few months off and we are in the flight path to the Rio Grande valley and Mexico. We spend countless hours on the deck watching the bird show

I love crows; my favorite bird. They're the Einsteins of the bird world. SO smart. I used to feed them up north, and they would reciprocate with little gifts. They would leave pretty red berries, paper clips, an earring, valves from car tires, buttons, screws, safety pins, etc. on the porch, I felt very honoured that they would give me things from their precious stashes.

Their aerial skills are so amazing, fly straight over my head and go pure vertical just inches from the wall of the house and barely clear the roofline. They are everything we wish our aircraft could do - Tom Cruise on steroids. I glad you have mourning dove - we don't have them here anymore. We had a pair of Inca dove for a couple of years but I think the combination of harsh winters and brutal summers have shifted their territory.

Most people call them morning doves, and that's just wrong.

What we are doing is gifting son and DIL money so we won't run into the 5 years before death thing in case we ever need medicaid which I doubt. And we are also allowed to gift so much a year, so don't judge. We are giving what we can afford, when we can afford it.
Why make them wait till we die if we have enough?
Just have to see how our finances go.

DH has regretted not bringing a good non stick pan on vacation for scrambled eggs. I can't eat them so I don't care. But you can't make them in a crappy pan. We usually bring the big griddle but that's for fried eggs, bacon, sausage and pancakes. DH loves breakfast and will happily cook it every morning on vacation.
I need to find a bird feeder and figure out where to put it. DH wanted to get me one since my grandma enjoyed feeding and watching the birds.

I love attempting to be a birder! I use the Merlin app to identify but still only know a few birds on sight or sound without looking it up, lol. I was at a friend's house and she was talking about a grey bird with perfect black eyes, and I'm like, "oh, a cat bird!" like I know what I'm talking about. (It was a cat bird.) We have killdeer in the lot across the street from my house; they're my favorite. Mourning doves sometimes hangout on the roof outside my home office. I always know when they're there because Dudley is in the window, tail twirling Locally, I enjoy going to Valley Forge National Park or Heinz Wildlife Refuge for bird hikes. Husband and I did go to Cape May during the monarch migration a couple of years ago. That was a pleasant surprise! I want one of those bird feeders with the camera but I would get zero work done.

Three trips to town today. Jeez. At least I can say it wasn't poor planning. Last minute swim tests meant a trip home for the suit, and then I had to go back because they were going to drop off Ed between 5:30 and 7. When I said I'd be home. At 7 I get a text saying they'd be over about 8. Well fine, but you'll have to leave him with DS because as I said I needed to leave at 7. So, now I'm getting text after text of instructions even though I've watched him countless times. Yes, I know he hates men, is very territorial and bites. Nothing has changed.

On the topic of large raptors, we've got an American eagle nest in our community. Rangers, or whatever they call the group that keep tabs on the eagles, do go up & peek into those nests occasionally. (Those nests are just massive--you could fit a Volkswagon Beetle into one!) But they've found dog & cat collars in them. Just so you know... I don't want them eating my pets, but they are amazing to watch when they're in the air.

Everyone has highs and lows sometimes the lows are REALLY low.
That doesn't make you ungrateful for what you do have and trying to force yourself to do so can be engaging in toxic positivity.
No you don't want to sink into a pit of despair so it is good to sometimes change the narrative.
But its okay to feel like you do Pink and it's a 100% normal response to all the shit you've been through lately.
It's your brain telling you that you've reached burn out and something needs to change. What that is is different for everyone.
I've found "purpose" in my work with pictures and the quilt I'm repairing. It doesn't have to be a lofty Nobel purpose.
It just needs to be something to work on or towards. Preferably something that provides a tangible reward like a ripe tomato or seeing the quilt on my bed once it's done.
Something small that's all yours and you can say at least I did X and that's enough.

We get a variety of birds that visit our property. I suspect it's partly because we don't spray for bugs. Not even the vegetable garden. So we get a variety of robins, cardinals, bluebirds, and some that I cannot identify. But I enjoy watching them.

Nice. Netflix kicked us off Ex's account a few weeks ago with their password sharing crackdown, but apparently my phone account still works fine. Watching shows on a 5 inch screen isn't ideal, but I download stuff to watch when I'm just sitting in parking lots (like now) waiting for Carrot.

Saying I'm glad I got hit by a little SUV instead of an eighteen-wheeler doesn't fix my car or my body; I'm still broken and in pain. I understand what you wrote, but I’m just SO angry, about so many things. I try to be a good and honorable person in all aspects of my life, I try to treat people the way I’d like for them to treat me, and what is my reward for that?! Having more and more bullshit to deal with?! It seems to me that my life was much easier before I spent a few years doing the work to try to be a better me. My prior self, everybody and anybody I dealt with might be upset by things I said and did if I felt they deserved it, but I was always good, no matter how much of a fool I acted, as long as you learned not to play with me. After I started doing the work, because I didn’t want to be that person anymore, I was happy to be able to live in a zen kind of state of being. But since I’ve discovered that that was even possible, my life won’t let me stay there. I have memories of how it felt, but I haven’t been able to get to that state of mind for several years now. I use to be a real bitch, that didn’t care what I said, whether it hurt feelings or not, and I was reckless with my actions. I did a lot of work to try to be a better person. But it seems like I had more peace of mind back then, when I really just didn’t give a fuck.

My current go-to is Costco Kirkland 100% cotton sheets. They last at least 10 years when washed weekly and just keep getting softer. I also love their towels and bath rugs. The best part is they are so easy to pick up or order online. BB&B sheets did not hold up well, Target sheet scare not soft enough and Macy's Charter Club seems over-priced. I am very picky about sheets. I will have to try those you mention. They used to carry a quality name brand and then the label changed to Kirkland brand. I'm pretty sure it's the same manufacturer - the hem at the top of the top sheet and on the pillowcases is identical. Like you, I'm picky about my linens. I like 100% cotton for sheets and towels. It doesn't make me sweat, absorbs well, doesn't pill, and just keeps getting softer and softer. The best part of them being from Costco is that I can get them anywhere at a great price. I use only white here because of the iron in the water and between the water softener plus a little bleach, it's hard to tell which set is two or three years older. I'm neurotic so I marked the labels on the older set. The other thing I like from there are their Charisma bath rugs. I ended up using a couple of them in Tan here in my room because they are so thick and just feel wonderful on my toes. They also wash on delicate and dry on low without problems. Due to size and color, I tried several other brands and ended up with Dark Green by Charter Club in my tiny bathroom. They are ok but not as nice as Charisma from Costco.

Boy and I were sitting on the deck when we both heard something that got our attention. Boy jumped up and ran to that side of the deck, and a huge bird flew off the roof of the house. I was already wary when he was a small puppy, because of the warnings on the Neighborhood App about small pets and the predators around here. Boy isn’t so tiny anymore, but that bird looked like it was big enough to carry him away if it wanted to. Goooood grief! I knew a girl who had a Yorkie that a bird picked up and flew off with. It dropped her at some point so she got her back relatively unharmed.

I feel as if I have dropped off the face of the earth since closing, but we are slowly coming up for air. The "we" is a reference to my sister who is visiting for a month from Phoenix. The move itself was quite reasonable . . . $800. This wasn't a couple of guys I picked up at Home Depot and a rental truck but a local company I discovered through NextDoor. But they had to move only furniture; I moved the boxes pretty much by myself beforehand. Unpacking is going very slowly, though, since I had to spend the rest of yesterday (Moving Day) cleaning my old house before leaving the key. Today I unpacked a little but also ran errands like buying ceiling fans for the smaller bedrooms, refilling the refrigerator, etc. We got the internet back tonight, which was its own adventure. Penny isn't adjusting as well as I had hoped, but I am sure it will get better. She goes around the house looking for me and whining when I go somewhere, my sister says. I'll post pictures if/when I ever get everything unpacked. It really is the cutest home I have ever lived in . . . not perfect, but perfect for me!

I only like percale sheets, they last forever and don't pill. I have made 2 sets of white with percale and still have a bolt of it. Wonderful material, but many times hard to find in xlong.s
I am exhausted tonight, we went to Westport, had lunch, shopped along the strip there. Got some pictures of fishing boats in the bay and walked a ton. The clam chowder was to die for, but I'm like DIL, wish I had just gotten our bowl for lunch instead of a cup. We had fish and chips and the kids had shrimp and chips.
I was going to buy fish but ended up not doing it, not sure why. The only thing I really like is shrimp and they did have prawns. DIL drove so I got to look at scenery was very pretty and a pretty day overall.
We finally found me a little makeup table at a Marshalls in Aberdeen and DIL said she has a chair for it. I also got a sun hat, forgot to bring one. I think with all the walking all of us were tired. DIL put my clean dishes away and washed the ones in my sink, I told her she didn't have to, but thanked her for doing it.
She is taking little guy swimming tomorrow so took him home, I'm glad, he is a busy kid and I am getting old with less energy. I had a rough night. ate raw cauliflower too late I guess and was up sick for about 2 hours with severe gas, It hurt so bad I was walking the floor and taking gas ex and felt like I was going to vomit. So didn't get the rest I wanted. This will help.
As far as son, he has never asked for a dime from us in his life. He always made it on whatever he made. But he is 54 and a 30 year loan would make him 84, really? I'm sure he wants money to live in in retirement besides just making a house payment. And yes his interest rate is below 3%, 2.9 I think. So I understand why he is wanting to pay it off. I have no idea what his balance is. Also his property taxes are going to raise.
I'm getting a bath and crashing, I'm dead tire. I think DD is already asleep.

I used almonds, pistachios, walnuts and pecans in pesto. It all works. Pine nuts are hard to find here and when I do find them they are stupid expensive. I find I don't miss what I regularly don't taste so I don't even bother with trying to locate them anymore.Yes they are stupid expensive. I thought about using walnuts, but ended buying the pine nuts. I only bought about a quarter cup. I'm using the basil I grew myself on the balcony and I want the pesto to be original and authentic. I'm not even making it today because I have an avocado that must be used up, so I'll make avocado toast on sourdough, with garlic and chili flakes. I hope I don't break the yolk of the egg when frying it. what material is your fry pan? I used to break yolks all the time. a couple years ago, I bought a copper-coated ceramic pan that was amazing for exactly this. when I wrecked it burning some bacon in it, I replaced it with a Blue Diamond brand. link I picked mine up at Walmart, and it's better than the copper one was. this pan will never see bacon! We keep a dedicated 10" egg pan. Cooking anything else in the egg pan ruins it.
