My aunt was an accountant and she did all her kids/grandkids taxes including for multiple businesses they had. She was also the one that taught me to do mine when I was a teen. I remember sitting at the kitchen table with her and her stacks of files (everything was paper back then) the TV on in the corner, my grumpy uncle complaining that I was always there eating all their food. Really fond memories of those days honestly. This is the house. The house is gorgeous, no doubt. But going from what you have to a little over a quarter of an acre? If intended to live in during retirement it is still a lot of house to keep clean. If you figure 1200 square feet is basement and there are 4 bedrooms (so 3 of them could be cleaned and doors closed and left be most of the time) it's really only about 2000 square feet. Yeah, bigger than I'd need, but I'd rather have extra space I don't need than not enough. Which brings me to the yard. I don't know if I'd be happy with it. It's beautiful and very nicely landscaped, but it's pretty small, not fully fenced like I thought (did a drive by yesterday) and has a lot of houses whose back yards butt up against it. I can kind of see why they built the big indoor grilling porch area.

I looked up PLGB. I am 48 and too old for that shit. No parking lots for me - I am worth much more. PLGB is now in my Google search history!🙀 heh. I figured enough of you might look it up that I could get the gist from the discussion.

We get our heating and cooling system serviced twice a year before each season the applicable system is needed. We spent $10k in 2017 on a new furnace, AC, and ductwork, so damn right I am keeping my investment in top shape! It's also included in our plumber's service plan, so we kind of make out in the deal. We have a 112-year-old house and we have a plumber over once a year to do something, it seems. It just seems that most of what they do is see if something is getting worn out or going to fail (or they THINK it's wore out and going to fail) and replacing it preemptively, where as I'm kind of the, "I'll fix it when and if it breaks" type, after all $200/year for service over the 24 years is $4800 I could just apply to a new furnace. But, I also have back up heat sources, so I can wait for a week for a repair in January.
Same. For a new one DH insists on having a service plan which is fine. However reading the fine print of those our old ass AC and furnace wouldn't be covered since parts are not easy to source anymore. The replacement clause is only of equal value so they would not replace them either. I am better off saving that money for when I need to replace it. WD-40 and a stick it is!

I went to Chrome incognito before going to UD.
My sheets are Macy's Charter Club 550 thread count. They are stupid expensive not on sale but they are 100% cotton. I have 4 sets we rotate on our bed, 1 king set for travel and 1 full set for the spare bedroom.
For the king/full ones I watched the "Christmas" print until I got them for $30 with coupon. It's a red and white stripe, that doesn't scream Christmas to me.

We got new AC, furnace and zoned the upstairs off 5 years ago to the tune of $10k. The AC had completely failed. It rarely got the house below 73 and Freon didn't last the summer. It was part of a class action suit for rusted coils. I suppose the prior owners pocketed that money.
Both were 18 years old and original to the house so we replaced them. I think also it made doing the zoning easier. We went middle of the road with AC options. My brother thinks we bought a Cadillac. Oh well I'm no longer hot in my house.
The plan is to have them serviced/checked in the fall.
My car has the regrowing brake pads too. Yellow one time, green the next. They are pushing the transmission fluid every time. Mazda says it's lifetime fluid. I will get spark plugs done next time. Those are overdue.

I don't use them as often as the Threshold 400 thread count sets so I can extend their lifespan. Thankfully Target does have good sheets at a decent enough price that I can't help but buy a new set whenever there's a new pattern I like.

I just splurged on a Cariloha bamboo set last year, but I don't love that it's a bit too big for my mattress. the cool material is amazing, though. so I am going to look at other brands of bamboo sheets when it's time to replace these.
for more budget-friendly options, I actually have a couple sets from Better Homes and Gardens (available at Walmart) for my guest room. I had used the same for myself forever, until I bought the Cariloha set. I want to say the BHG ones are 300 thread count, and you can get a full set for ~$50.

Well I learned something new tonight. Our 70'ish year old "community leader" wannabe posted a comment on social media with the acronym "PLGB crowd". I was all and then another resident posted the definition from the Urban Dictionary, which I won't share here. This "community leader" has also been doing the cougar thing on social media over a local guy, 20-30, who posts creepy photos and videos, telling him how handsome he is I looked it up too. 😳

Mechanics annoy me so much...not all obviously, but you never know who you're going to get. I don't know how many times my van was on its death bed according to the 60 point check at one visit for an oil change and miraculously cured the next time. Last summer I took the Fridge in for an oil change and rotate and they told me I needed to get my brakes done and even wrote up an estimate and asked if I wanted to schedule it. They were also marked in the red on the 60 point check. I declined because it was going to get parked for the winter anyhow so I figured I'd put it off. Today I took it back and TOLD them to do oil change, rotate and brakes front and rear and they just called me back and said they had the first two done, but it wasn't ready for new brakes. They were 6 in the front and 4 in the rear and they don't like to do them before they get down to 3. So, apparently during it's time off over the winter it was able to build it's brake pads up some. That's my air conditioner. I've been living in the house since 2006 and every other year someone swears that it is going to die and I need to replace it immediately. The last one was back in July of last year when we had to replace the freon. Supposedly it wasn't even going to run this summer according to the guy that replaced our freon. It's still going strong. It will need replaced eventually but I agree with the older guy who put a new motor in for us. Keep it going until either it literally falls apart or we can no longer get parts. It's an energy sucking monster but it is God knows how old and still kicking. Newer models are designed to be obsolete in 5-7 years. I'm not paying that much money for something I'll have to replace in less than a decade until I absolutely have to. T2's car has been nickel and diming me a lot lately. The AC compressor went out and my mechanic says it's $500 to fix it. I told him it's a temporary car, so it will only be a problem 3 months out of the year. She'll have to deal. Right now since it's so hot she can just drive my car to work. I can drive hers to and from the gym in the evening when it's cooler. I was already giving him $800 for a bunch of other stuff.

Pink- you made a post about boy that I meant to respond to and I can't find it. Years ago, I was the one who got serious about dog training and put in the work. Dh said he wanted to also, but wasn't willing to do the work at home, or even support the work I was when it was "hard". It didn't take too long for the dogs to realize different rules for different people. They didn't listen to dh at all until he got on board but that didn't stop them from listening to me. Before dh realized he wasn't going to just get to piggy back on my work, we had friends over and he asked my dog to sit and instead she barked at him. I was across the house, told her to sit and she did immediately, cementing who was boss. That dog would also listen for my key in the door. After I left she'd get in bed and jump back out if I forgot something. Anyway tl:Dr Mister doesn’t have to be on board. Boy can still learn that you mean business. How old is he? He’ll be a year old in a few days. I will keep working with him, I just wish he didn’t get on my nerves so much sometimes. Please keep in mind that Boy hasn't changed. You have. You're under a great deal of stress right now, and that's why Boy gets on your nerves so much. With all the crap you're going through, even a goldfish would get on your nerves.

Gave up on sheets for twin x long for a guest room Put in cotton but keep getting microfiber. Trying to replace microfiber sets try Bed, Bath & Beyond. they are liquidating their inventory as they go out of business. Yep. If not Walmart or Target have them. Especially with kids going back to dorm rooms soon.

Pretty sure that's about the age devil dog earned his name. 8mos-2years I didn't like him a lot of days. I'm still pissed that dh pushed so hard for such a big high energy dog and he's done so little with - and that I knew this would happen and I agreed to it anyway. But...after 2 devil dog got so much better. I have been a slacker though and need to work with him more though. Luna just turned 3 and she's just now starting to be less crazy than she was as a puppy. She's a pandemic dog, they're built different.

My first prime order is 1 stop away. I'm sure the mail workers are going to hate their lives for the rest of the week. There is a big Amazon distribution warehouse in our city 2 exits before my work exit. Traffic was backed up on the exit way more than normal. Guessing they are all working today. Oh yeah. I'm getting my 3rd delivery today shortly. I found lots of goodies!

Groceries are freaking stupid expensive still. I am tired of reading about "Inflation is down! Inflation is down!" while still paying a fortune at the store. At least now the farmer's market and farm stands are open so if I am paying for produce I am at least getting produce that doesn't rot 2 minutes after I get it home. A lot of is rotten sitting on the shelf! And that's every grocery store I've hit in town! I get it is due to weather conditions, continuing shipping issues and lack of people to pick produce but that doesn't make it any less infuriating when you see what they want for a box of strawberries and the entire damn pallet is moldy. I don't let myself look at what I have spent overall on groceries this year. As a human being I need food to survive so it is what it is. I do my best to keep it in check as much as possible but there is only so much I can do to combat the prices. The price of groceries is ridiculous! One ear of corn is over a dollar. It used to be a dozen for $3. Insane. Thank goodness I got $357 from the feds to offset the cost of food. It won't fix the problem, but it helps.

My current go-to is Costco Kirkland 100% cotton sheets. They last at least 10 years when washed weekly and just keep getting softer. I also love their towels and bath rugs. The best part is they are so easy to pick up or order online.
BB&B sheets did not hold up well, Target sheet are not soft enough and Macy's Charter Club seems over-priced.

You have to stalk the sales for Macy's. I didn't pay more than $50 for any of my queen sets but it required patience.
DH and a friend did the big grocery shopping trip on our vacation. The friend said DH was going on about how everything was too expensive and he wasn't buying it. Clearly I'm the one who does the regular shopping.
I try to hit up sales for things we use regularly and meal plan so we don't waste food. We split a whole cow with my dad. We have to eat. We eat way more chicken and hamburger than steak so it just is what it is. I got lucky this morning and got 2 packages of chicken wings marked 50% off at the store.

I want to make pesto. My basil is growing like gangbusters. I needed pine nuts, so I went down to the huge grocery store down the hill. Surely, they have pine nuts. There's hardly anyone working there, it's all do it yourself.
I did find 3 people working in the produce section. They're all young men from the midde east. I asked them where I could find the pine nuts, and they stared at me with all the comprehension of a bull reading a bible. They had no idea what I was talking about. Anyway, I left without pine nuts. I finally found them at the smaller grocery store across the street, in tha en vrac section. (in bulk, take how much you want). So today, I'm making pesto.

I used to go to Aldi every two weeks and spend $60, now it's more like $175. That doesn't even include what I pay at Sam's. We won't even talk about that number.

I thought it was because I relocated, but inflation as a driving force makes sense. People can't afford the $16 bag of apples so it sits longer. Then I take it home and end up tossing a third of the bag. Individual apples are even worse and half end up in the garbage. The fact that the rotten produce just sits spreading to all the other produce just exacerbates the issue. I guess that goes back to the "no one wants to work" excuse.

Monday night I made this big pile of General Tso chicken (40 oz, so over 2 pounds!), tons of rice, a whole bag of broccoli and 8 cobs of corn. I'm looking at all this food thinking if it was just me I could have this for dinner the entire week. I did my usual, let them have all they want and just took enough to barely fill me up and every last bit of it was gone. Every single speck.

We get about 90% of our groceries at Aldi which has cut our costs way down. We still get a few items at other groceries like H-Mart (Korean chain) or Randall's (part of the Albertson-Safeway group). We plan our menus one week at a time to avoid waste, and keep a written inventory of the freezer so nothing gets lost in the dark recesses.
I have no qualms about spending money, but I don't waste it either.

That’s probably true, but he really is a pest. He bugs Newbie so much that I have to make him leave her alone sometimes. Fortunately, she’s mostly patient with him, but every once in a while he irritates her to the point that she gets a certain look in her eye that I don’t like when she snarls at him. So far, he understands her language and when she means business, he runs away from her and leaves her alone. But it still makes me nervous when she really gets sick of him, because I fear that one day he might challenge her instead of running away, and I don’t see that turning out too well. A couple weeks ago, he had a little blood on his throat and I’m sure it came from him tussling with Newbie. It was clearly visible because his fur is white there. When they “play”, she’s not as gentle with him as she was when he was younger. I took a picture of it and sent it to Mister (he was at work) before I cleaned it up. So now he even tries to stop them when they are tussling. They still haven’t had a real fight, but I don’t like the “playing” either, if it’s going to draw even a little bit of blood. But he’s always bothering her. He pounces on her when she’s sleep and he has some sort of obsession with licking her mouth….. and her poop, which is disgusting. The 2 biggest things that irritate me are 1. He still thinks it’s an option when he’s told to come to us and 2. He thinks it’s okay to hangout on my bed. That one is my fault for allowing it in the first place, because I felt like he was such a big comfort to Mister. But he’s dirty and I have a thing about my bed being clean. I don’t sit on my bed with “outside” clothes on, I don’t even sit my purse on my bed. I’ve told Mister that he has to bathe Boy regularly and keep his paws clean if he’s gonna be on my bed. I might as well have asked you to do that, when you’re in a whole ‘nother country, because the result is the same. And besides the ick factor, he disturbs what little sleep I might get, because he inches his way toward the head of the bed during the night, and I definitely don’t want him on my pillows. So I’m constantly waking up and trying to shove him back to the foot of the bed, which doesn’t work because he’s too heavy, so I have to get out of bed to move him. Honestly, that’s the biggest thing, I’m already irritated before I get up in the morning. I understand I never should have allowed it in the first place, knowing I don’t like dogs on my furniture and especially not on my bed. But I did allow it, and here we are.

Some days, my job irritates the living daylights out of me. Had a problem Friday. Found the problem. Need other people to fix the problem. Other people were out of the office. Fine, it will wait until Monday. Did my thing on my end to make the problem stop happening. But, I need the other people to fix the thing I found on Friday. Spent all day Monday explaining it again. Then had to explain it again yesterday. Then today, oh, well, we've decided this isn't a problem. We aren't going to make the changes. Cue me word vomiting 4 letter words to my boss. Dug up the data and had my boss deal with them. They are reviewing the information and they'll let us know.
I can't even with these people today!

I looked up PLGB. I am 48 and too old for that shit. No parking lots for me - I am worth much more. PLGB is now in my Google search history!🙀 Mine too! Heck, I'm 65, but I'm worth way more! (Don't I get my virgin status back, after two years?🤔 🤣 ) And I don't do parking lots!
