fantastic. so I'm heading up to NH tomorrow am, that's why my parents are coming down. I forgot until earlier this week that my inspection sticker expired at the end of June. oops. I ran out just now to knock that out, there's a service station out on the main road. well, I have a nice shiny rejection sticker (which is actually more valid than the 6/23 one) for my troubles. my rear center seat belt buckle won't click to secure the harness. I would bet my house that I've never even tried to use that one, as I can count on one hand that there have even been FOUR people in my car. so I called my dealership to ask about getting another one, and it turns out that the center and passenger are a one-piece deal and that the seat has to come out in order to replace it. I'm going to call around to some junkyards in the area to see if anyone's got one for cheaper than the $97 brand new. I have 60 days for the rejection sticker, and I'm currently pencilled in for a service appointment on 7/26 which was the first available. I'm going to have my dad see if he can mess with it tonight, I had no luck. I was annoyed at a $600 bill to replace my ignition last summer, but this one really frosts my ass. the car has over 200k miles on it, but a never-used seatbelt is going to fail my inspection? oy. They stopped doing inspections here several years ago, while I still lived in the city. Having to go through inspection just because you lived in the city didn’t really make sense because people in the rest of the county and 2 neighboring states are regularly in the city because that’s where they work, shop and whatever other reasons. And the renewal cost more if you lived in the city, vs in the county, outside the city limits. Here, “in the county” does it necessarily mean in the suburbs either. When I was a teenager, my Mom bought a house in the county, but it wasn’t a named suburb. Registering a car was cheaper and she didn’t have to pay city taxes, but she also didn’t have some of the services the city provides, like trash pickup. Anyway, when we did have vehicle inspections, it was just making sure all the lights, windshield wipers and emergency brake worked properly, and your car didn’t have smoke coming out of the exhaust. They wouldn’t even bother with you if your car was smoking. They didn’t check anything regarding the interior of the car. Texas did away with annual "safety" inspections this year but cars registered in my county still have to pass an emissions test. LOL Now it only comes on once for a day or two every few weeks).

I just repotted a banana plant (tree?) that I bought on a whim a few weeks ago. I actually bought 2, but I only have one really big pot right now, so I need to get something else to repot the other one in. I intend for them to go in the ground eventually, but I got ahead of myself buying them because I don’t know where they fit in with my long term plans as far as planting them in the ground. I did at least research banana trees before I bought mine, and I bought a variety that can survive winters where I live, even though that variety produces inedible bananas, if it produces any at all. I’m good with not getting edible bananas from it. As far as I recall, those are the only random, impulse purchase I’ve made this year, besides vegetable seeds. Please DON’T correct me if I’m wrong.😂😂😂 Just kidding. I do think I’ve done a lot better this year with not buying random things that caught my eye, without researching whether they are a good fit for me and my space, but I might be deliberately not remembering some things lol. And I’m cool with you all pointing those things out to me to help me stay on track better next year lol.

I have a banana tree as well. But, it most definitely CANNOT live outside here in the winter. I've had it for a number of years and it really hasn't grown much, but it really needs to be in a much bigger pot.

I just got back from the pool. It was glorious. I went with my friend, Nechama. She was a sharpshooter in the Israeli Army. One of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet.

Theft of converters has really skyrocketed over the last two years.

The variety I bought is supposed to be able to survive winter a couple of zones colder than mine, but I’m pretty sure that’s if it is growing in the ground and not in a container. Please share your experience and tips.

I have ZERO plant care tips, but it must be hardy because most houseplants I kill in very short order. It's stunted small though, I'm assuming due to needing to be re-potted. It's probably only 2-3 feet tall and I've had it for at least 6 years. You've inspired me to give it some love though, so I might dig around for a bigger pot this weekend.

I drive so little that I'm usually exempt from the emissions inspection, but I don't mind the safety inspection because it helps me keep a record of when my brakes and tires were last done, since it's so long between needed service. And it's when I get my annual oil change.

My particular model the manifold and the cat were one part so it was a $$$$ replacement. Or, I could just trick the emissions thingy by detaching the battery for a couple of minutes then drive the car for 20 miles before going right to his garage for inspection. Worked every time. Glad I don't have to play games anymore, lol.

That seems like a really low dose for someone with no thyroid at all. I'm on 75 mcg and I don't think I really even need to be on it at all. Well, I am only 5'2/~138 lbs so that might account for some of the difference, I think you and CG are much taller than me. Thyroid meds are strange. Harpo, TD’s dog took thyroid meds, human ones. The 30 lb dog took 400 ug, which is 4x my dose. My sister is about my size, and she takes 200 ug.

My check engine light is on because the automatic tire pressure sensor is broken.
Has absolutely jack shit to do with safety or efficiency.
I'd be pissed if I had to pay $300 to replace something a 99 cent tire gage can do.
Guess there is one thing to be grateful about living in Iowa. No inspections.

My current car and the one I had before this had a different light for the tire sensors. Still lit up if a sensor went out but it was different from the check engine light. How are you even supposed to know the tire sensors are the problem? I like knowing how much I'm supposed to worry. Having the engine light come on because of the tire sensor would drive me insane!

Like I haven't just walked through the cold to get to the car.🙄 But it can't tell me when my battery is dying. That would be a useful message.

June 2010 - day of my friend's (the aforementioned mechanic) rehearsal dinner. Battery of my old Honda died outside Ulta. January 2020 - Battery of my current Honda (purchased in 2013) died outside Ulta.

Mister is eating BBQ nachos. I bought stuff to make it with the shoulder I smoked, but yesterday I froze most of the shoulder. Just now, I tasted his BBQ nachos, and ummmm…. Delicious! He told me that if I’m not confident about anything else I cook, I can be confident about knowing how to smoke a shoulder. He had a lot of praise for everything I grilled Monday. So did DD and my Grandbabies. Yay me!

That sure is something. I have no idea if my car even has that. If there is ice out my car is not moving. I have had to take Kiddo to school when it is "cold". Though, cold down here on a school morning is most likely 28-32 F. I honestly don't know what I would do with a snowflake light. Probably just nope myself right back into the house until it went away.

When I back out of my slightly steep driveway, it screams and flashes a warning that there is pavement behind me. When I back out of a space in a parking lot, it shrieks an alert that there are cars passing on the street behind the parking lot. When I'm trying to back out of a tight parking spot, it applies automatic braking so I can't get within 1 foot of the shrubs behind me. Wanna guess why I'm not buying another Subaru?

I told DS he was in charge of dinner tonight, so he decided to bring home Papa Murphy's. That's great, but it's been sitting on the kitchen counter for an hour now and he's in the basement gaming. I think the assumption is still that I will actually make it. Not that it's a big deal to make a pizza, but still...YOU'RE in charge of dinner tonight, means I'M the one that sits on my ass.

The one things Subarus yell about that I wish mine would is lane changing. The light comes on in the mirror, but I would appreciate a bit of a shriek if I put my turn signal on with someone in the blind spot.

DH is off today. And while I did WFH today, I work with stupid people. Which is a whole different problem that I will still be dealing with on Monday. However, it does mean DH is in charge of dinner. Which is why I am actually sitting on my ass right now and chatting with you fine people I get what you're saying though. If you still have to throw the pizza in the oven and time it, you had to do at least half the work. It's definitely not the same as someone else being completely in charge.

At 37 degrees, my Subaru tells me the roads may be icy.
It has told me when I'm driving through road construction, that I am driving through barriers on each side, that I am driving too close to the wall. There is no where else to go when you are driving with barriers on both sides of the road.

subaru's are special - they tell you lots of stuff. The one things Subarus yell about that I wish mine would is lane changing. The light comes on in the mirror, but I would appreciate a bit of a shriek if I put my turn signal on with someone in the blind spot. Turn signal? What is this strangeness of which you speak? I saw a great meme a couple of weeks ago that said, "Using your turn signal is NOT revealing information to the enemy". I can always tell the out-of-staters or folks from the local driving school because they use their turn signals. And actually stop at stop signs and red lights.
