As far as Texas, when we went down there, they still had pretty strong unions though they were chipping away at them. The workers were about all white in the unions, some minorities were in them. Texas had fought against organized labor for along time and they passed the right to work law. After that the unions started hurting. They would have 2 gates on a job, one for union, one for non union. So that was when illegals really started flocking in, they wanted them for cheap labor. I think the oil refineries and chemical plants are still union though. But I'm sure what they are doing is chipping away at any right the unions gained for their workers over the years. It's a sad state of affairs. But then remember they didn't want people given water waiting in voter lines. Texas has changed in many ways since you were here, I think. Most skilled trades - electrician, plumber, pipefitter, longshore, etc are 100% union shop. That's not to say that smaller companies don't use non-union workers, just not the big guys. I have to disagree with your statement, "But I'm sure what they are doing is chipping away at any right the unions gained for their workers over the years." Rights secured by union contracts are like any contract right, fairly solid. It's those people, documented or non-documented, who work outside the union system who are well and truly screwed. BTW, as I recall you lived one county over from me and worked in downtown Houston. Both the City of Houston and Harris County are now majority-minority which means non-Hispanic whites are a minority. And yes, "illegals" is a very biased term. Undocumented workers arrive here from many, many countries including Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, for a variety of reasons. While they may be unwelcome in your community, they are very much embraced here as a vital element of our economy and our vibrant culture.

I finished 4 loads of laundry and , except for remaking my bed, all is put away again. However, I did notice that one of my pillow cases has a tiny (1-2 mm) in it and that made me reflect on how old a lot of my stuff is. I bought these pillowcases in Singapore 30 (yes that is thirty) years ago! And on Tuesday I had a friend over for lunch. She really liked my plates. I told her that if she still liked them in a few years (when I move to Europe) she could have the entire set as I was more than tired of them. She wondered why as they nice -> well that may be true but I bought them when I first was out of college and that is over 50!!! years ago. In all that time I moved two dozen times and only one plate was broken and one chipped by our housekeeper in Bangkok. So the set is just about complete but I need something new, different. There are many items I have that are of equal, shall we say, vintage but I just have a hard time replacing perfectly good items. My next international move will provide me with my now or never opportunity and I intend to use it

Am I dreaming or didn't the Texas legislature just pass a law that they can through out the vote in Harris County if they want to? I know they greatly reduced where people can vote trying to make it hard for minorities to vote and than this. We said how in the world can that be legal?
Of course that county is democrat.
I'm happy to hear unions are still there. The housebuilders and many that use illegals had the reputation of calling the enforcers, can't think of the initials, and having them raid the places right before payday so they didn't have to pay them. They use and abuse.
I have an epi pen at home but believe it's outdated. Been years since I have needed anything, so didn't even think about needing benadryl. Soon as I got up, I went to the pharmacy at 8:15, so got on it quick as I saw it. And yes, I was on the 4th day of med, had 2 to go. I'm still swollen, but its not worse, so that'sand DDE knows to call 911 and I wouldn't be surprised good. I will take another when I go to bed and get some of the spray for my skin too.
I want to wash windows but not today. Looks like dad didn't wash the outside.
I want to go see places up here, but I also enjoy just staying right here and relaxing. It seems like last time and this time I get up here and just want to rest and watch telly and visit with little guy if he comes over. I am just quite happy right here. It's a lovely clean, little park, and the people we have met are so nice. But I will get out and about too.

Yes, there were bills passed by the Texas legislature which attempt to impact the voting practices of Harris County. And there are legal challenges to that working their way through the courts. I won't reply further to this because you persist in using the term "illegals" which is a highly offensive racist term.

I guess I didn't realize that, so what is the correct term? We have tons of people here come in that works the melon crops, I assume they are guest workers but don't know.

I just had some rockfish, they were blah. I assume they would be tasty in some kind of tomato sauce. I also didn't have any fish fry mix, just some bread crumbs to dip them in. Never had them before, next time will cook them with some type of sauce and bake them. I read they can be various kinds of fish.
I am getting an estimate on July 12th for a heat pump in the mobile.
The park manager said their first electric bill was $400 and they had a heat pump put in and it dropped to $68. But want to see what the initial investment amounts to. Hubs was saying it should drop our electric bill, we will see.

Grandson’s wife is Chinese just became citizen 2 years ago. She’s now translating for ICE and has a secret clearance. Lots of Chinese flying into Mexico City then over border into US. She says some have really terrible experiences . I’m sure most are hardworking and will be an asset to the US but ?? Chinese government certainly doesn’t have the best intentions for US Too much chaos at the border and people are desperate . Politicians are hopeless about trying to resolve, both parties.

Wish there still was a guest worker program but think that was when Reagan was president Term that’s politically correct is undocumented . People can do illegal actions but they aren’t themselves ‘ illegal’ How is illegal racist? Maybe it applied in the past People coming over US border are not just from Mexico and South America - Hispanic . Maybe that’s majority but now from all over - Russia, mid East, China etc

Well, my plan to lay around and do nothing didn't pan out. As soon as we finished dinner and I was cleaning up the kitchen the alarm went off on my watch that tennis was in 30 minutes. I had forgotten about that. So did Carrot. Rushed to get chores done and made it in time. Ran to the farm supply store while he was there and got new fans for the barn as the last two quit working while we were gone. So...finally sitting down at 9:30 again. Still want to watch a movie, but should probably just go to my room and turn on the tv in there. TOMORROW night we have nothing <knock on wood>.

Isn't the farrier coming back out pretty soon? Much better. He actually RAN into the barn tonight, which he hasn't done in a long, long time. And yes, he hit 4 weeks today so I need to get the farrier back out. I thought I sent him a text this afternoon and just realized a little bit ago that I didn't hit send, so he got a bit of a late night one. I'm guessing he won't make it out until next week sometime. His feet are so hard and dry. I've been putting conditioner on every day, but the drought is really taking it's toll. Might have to start flooding his pen so he's standing in mud.

CG, "illegals" is not racist. The term comes from people entering this country illegally, which occurs by the thousands every day, as we see on the news daily. It's not a redneck term, but a nationwide term.

All my patches fell off the quilt. Trying to figure out how to hand repair it. Apparently I went about putting patches on the wrong way. It's not like when I make a jacket. I don't own a sewing machine. Hindsight is a bitch I could have had grandma's. With practice I could use it again. So that leaves hand sewing and I have no idea how to make quilt blocks.😖 A lady on Etsy sells scraps. Thinking of getting some. Then I just need help cutting them to size and I can hand repair the holes. Why did the patches fall off? For repairs and mending hand sewing is usually preferred. With a quilt there are multiple layers so in my mind it seems like hand sewing would actually be easier. If your goal is to repair it while adding your own flair I don't think you need to know how to make quilt blocks either. In fact, if you are not going to add blocks or completely remove blocks, I don't think it matters one bit if you know how to make blocks. There's probably at least one million different ways to repair these holes depending on how simplistic or creative you want to be. It feels like you are being entirely too hard on yourself I have a quilt that DD1 made and gave me, about 30 years ago. Even though I've taken very good care of it, during the last several years, I've found holes, where the stitching has come undone, or it was raveling. I have cut a small piece of iron on/hemming tape and put it behind the hole, then pressed it. It worked! I have now done this several times, in different places and even though I've washed it (regular cycle), it has held very well. And was MUCH easier than patching or hand stitching. Plus, you can't see, or tell where the repairs have been made! Good luck with your project! I hope you are able to create something you love, out of your grandma's quilt. And that you enjoy it.

I had a tooth extracted today. I had wisdom teeth extracted before and even a molar (big sigh!), and I never gave it a second thought. Today the dentist told me the symptoms of dry socket, and I can't get the possibility out of my head! That's the part of growing older that I hate, hate, hate. You develop fearfulness. I never used to give standing on a ladder a second thought. I hung out windows to clean them. I moved impossibly heavy furniture by myself. I still had some of this attitude when I tried to climb down from the deck when I got locked out. I could do everything. I never worried about getting a dry socket. It was a possibility, of course, but not likely to happen. Now I see the worst happening in my head all the time. I am one week from closing on the sale of this house/purchase of my new house, and I am terrified that it won't happen. I have felt like that from Day 1. It is because of the unconventional way the sale is happening, I am sure. It is a FSBO when I would have been more comfortable with a real estate agent, loan requirements, etc. Hoops are comforting. And I cannot stand living in a sea of boxes. I would make a terrible hoarder. Actually, I would make a GREAT hoarder because my hoarding would be confined into neat, labeled, color-coordinated boxes and bins that are strategically hidden in the basement and/or attic with a master hoarding spreadsheet available on my computer. Lol. But stuff everywhere in half-packed liquor store boxes of various sizes? Nah. That doesn't work for me. These are late night musings at 3 am.

Good morning, involved invisipeeps, moving mountains in your worlds. Welcome to Friday! TGIF! The week has been long and tough for many of you/us. I hope today offers a reprieve. My domain has transferred as of yesterday so now my website is accessible under my own name.I just have to adjust a few things to have it sync. The images of my photos are loading successfully. Today I'll spend basically getting ready for tomorrow, when we'll spend the day at the community marketplace with our photography. I need to ready some photos in mats and some others as just prints. That way people who are interested will have a choice. Or they can always go to the website. Saw DSis yesterday, too, after my haircut. She found a pair of bangles of our mother's and gave me one. They are solid silver, inscribed with mom's monogram. I'm happily wearing mine now. Yesterday morning was foggy. I got a picture of my favorite sailboat:

I'm not racist but I lose track of all the things I'm not supposed to say. Part of it is a lifetime of hearing and saying things like that and trying to make sure I don't do it. But I don't catch them all, so sorry about that.
The swelling has gone down in my lips a lot but the cheeks are still half way chipmunk cheeks, going to take another benadryl and hope its better by morning. At least its not getting worse. But my mouth tastes like I have cotton in it or something, just not right.
I'm heading for bed, its almost 2 here so would be 5 in Indiana, wow. I am very tired.
Got my floors mopped, clothes washed and we just kind of nibbled tonight.
I have to buy new damp rid boxes, I have them in all the closets and bathroom area, they are filled with water. My linen closet is the worse, but with windows open and the furnace running at night the smell is much better

I was just reading about the heat related deaths in Texas. I also read that there is a bill that could eliminate local laws that require water breaks for construction workers. I could not imagine. linkYou are correct. The Texas legislature has removed the ability of Texas cities and counties to require water breaks. They feel human lives are less important than business profits And then they will start complaining that nobody wants to work construction jobs there when the workers move out of state or find another line of work.

Did not sleep well either. Back is somewhat out from my grocery & bus adventure Wednesday night. And air quality is worse than when I went to bed the first time. Looks like we are in the red. Glad I am not working Saturday so I have time to recover.

Or they'll lower the age where you can legally work. Nothing like teaching tweens good ole American work ethic. Can't have them becoming lazy no good liberals. We are down to 14 in Iowa. That is their solution to the labor problem in the state.

Picked up the 4 wheeler case a little later than intended last night, so did not pay the park dues. Dinner was fabulous, and we both have enough leftovers to feed us today. The appetizer itself was pretty much enough for the both of us, though DH did eat half of his burrito and then wished he hadn't. That was DH's first time there. I have been many times with my sister, but I think the last time I was there was pre-Covid. Now that DH has been and liked it, we will likely visit fairly often. It is the closest restaurant to us, about 15-20 minutes away, and close to where we float the river.

I think i'm really losing it in a bad way. Yes. I told DH.
In my nice adulty words. That doesn't fix anything though. DH and his "take a deep breath" You think I haven't? You think that will fix my work situation, finding a new job, convincing DS that he needs employment, even if it's not a mechanics job, my mom? My house is a huge mess. The girls can't have friends over like they asked because of me. I hate being displaced.
Jesus. If deep breathing is all it would take to fix..I'd be a porn star in a hot minute. I need this fixed.

It's been a hell of a week, plus the heat has really left me running on fumes. I am so damn glad it's Friday, and I'm also wondering why I didn't just ask for Monday off.
