I think I am cursed up here. I woke up looking like a squirrel this morning. My cheeks and lips are swollen. Only guess I have is the supha drugs. I went to bed at 12 and the only thing I do then was the antibiotic, I have 2 days left, but not doing that. My throat is a little swollen but not bad, so not taking a chance. Not the first time this has happened. I also ate an apple yesterday evening and just rinsed it off, need to make sure I wash them off instead. I drove up to the drug store and bought benadryl, just took one tablet, likely will put me to sleep. If one doesn't help will take another later. It could even be detergents on the sheets. I have to check what hubs used. I'm not hurting just rather uncomfortable. I went over to see DIL and little guy yesterday afternoon. She was going to get her nails done today and taking little guy to play with the ladies daughter. They get along pretty well. But he wanted to come over and said mom you could pick me up, she said remember grandma doesn't have Utube anymore and that was when he said she could pick him up this morning.I'm not going to read anything into it, but if she keeps doing that, not much point coming up. I know she often doesn't give much thought to things she does so will just assume that. I wouldn't read too much into that. The adults likely wanted another kid around so that they could occupy each other.

As far as Texas, when we went down there, they still had pretty strong unions though they were chipping away at them.
The workers were about all white in the unions, some minorities were in them. Texas had fought against organized labor for along time and they passed the right to work law. After that the unions started hurting. They would have 2 gates on a job, one for union, one for non union. So that was when illegals really started flocking in, they wanted them for cheap labor. I think the oil refineries and chemical plants are still union though.
But I'm sure what they are doing is chipping away at any right the unions gained for their workers over the years. It's a sad state of affairs. But then remember they didn't want people given water waiting in voter lines.

I'm not, of course, if it keeps happening, than one would wonder
Son said he finally convinced DIL she cannot go to Russia, not like things are now. He said he certainly can't go, they would like to get their hands on him with the DOD and her being his wife is not a good situation plus she is also an American citizen, and since grandson is too she cannot take him. I didn't know she was seriously still considering going over there. He said he finally made her realize. I hope so.
Now she is wanting to go to Belgium with a girl friend of hers. I know son is trying to save but I kept my mouth shut. She has been to Texas and Florida this year. She was saying she went out with her sister and that bunch and her dinner alone was $120. I just plain told her, I can't do that, with the expense we have added we can go out and eat but have to be more selective and careful. But that's fine with me, I don't mine. She realizes all these people are spending beyond their means because than they end up broke. But the allure is there to do this stuff.
Sons property taxes are taking a big jump this year and sounds like a big water bill increase too. He makes good money but not enough to party all the time.

I went to a minor ER clinic and doubt I could even get in touch with the NP.
I'm afraid to take more, next one might make my throat swell shut, it's a little bit swollen now but ok. I am allergic to so much, I do have to be careful.

Wondering why I made an 8 am appointment to get a haircut 6 months ago, when I had a whole schedule to choose from. I made it, sans coffee.

Well I just got through chasing Macy down. She managed to weasel her way out the back gate. I thought she was sniffing at something on the other side. Before I realized that her whole head was on the other side she shoved the rest of her to the other side. She was only loose for a few minutes while I ran to the house for my car keys and a leash. She loves riding in the car so she happily got inside. Jackson would have made me chase him all over the neighborhood.

Doing some Googling it looks like I didn't use the right kind of fabric. It was really stretchy and thin. I need hardier cotton fabric. I also should have hand sewn them on rather than trying to use iron on backing. That stuff I had on hand works all right for jacket that gets light wear, it is not suitable for a quilt. I am a huge type A personality and then I am still struggling with "doing right" by everyone so my bumbling attempts to fix the quilt are frustrating. I decided I am going to go for it with the quilt scraps. $19 for a lot of quilt material. Then I know I'm getting stuff that will hold up. And I can put my own flair on the quilt. Ok, that makes a lot of sense. Most quilts use tight woven fabric. Nowadays 100% cotton, but with an older quilt no way to know for sure. But, definitely not a stretchy knit. As long as you match the fabric "type" well enough, your plan sounds fine. If your seller branded it specifically as quilting scraps, then it's probably woven tight enough to work for you. The other option is to just go to a big box store and buy 6 - 10 different cotton fat quarters for $19. Or a charm pack. Or a jelly roll pack. Or.......nevermind, I obviously have a fabric problem...... When it comes to sewing, I don't think I've ever done a single project "right" the first time? Seriously. My philosophy is that I can be a perfectly fine sewist as long as I have at least two good seam rippers and I know how to use them. As long as you don't use superglue I don't think there is anything you can do that will ruin the quilt. Any oopsies can be fixed. I think you will be happy with your final result. You have a good opportunity to add a nice amount of flair to the quilt. I have no doubt it will turn out great! I am not a quilter so I am attaching my comment here in hopes that if I say something stupid/really wrong you will correct me. Drama mentioned that she used iron on backing to get the patches on the quilt. Now when I do patchwork, I too use iron-on backing but before hand sewing. That way stuff won't move all over the place and come out differently from what I want it to be. Would this be an approach NomoreDramaQ1015 could use for these old quilts or would that "ruin" them?

Awww...crap! Cancelled. There is already too much smog and too much particulate matter in the air from the fires.

How are those businesses going to run when people start dying, which will cause other people to avoid that type of work? A lot of trades are already having a hard time recruiting people because anybody who has a choice does not want to do that type of dirty work. Sadly, many of our construction workers are non-documented immigrants who have few options. They work, they die, they are easily and cheaply replaced. Except deSantis keeps "stealing" replacements from Texas and move them to blue states to score political points. There will be pain felt by others in the state but then again, if you elect a legislature which puts such foul, dehumanizing laws in place maybe you do deserve that pain. The only place this can be stopped and changed is through voting.

That way stuff won't move all over the place and come out differently from what I want it to be. Would this be an approach NomoreDramaQ1015 could use for these old quilts or would that "ruin" them? Nothing about iron-on anything should ruin it. There are ways to get all that back off. I think some of you folks may be thinking my sewing credentials are more than they are. Let's just say I'm real good at fixing things that went wrong....mostly because I do so much wrong!!! Theoretically, yes, she could have just stitched after ironing on. Her problem seems to be more the material she used for the patches. Depending on how thin, how stretchy, how loose the knit/weave, and how big the patch was, it's not easy to get it stitched on. Not impossible. You certainly could make it work. There just won't be anything fun or easy about doing it with that kind of fabric though. If she uses the quilting scraps she purchased she can still iron on and hand stitch. With the weight of the quilt (multiple layers) she probably does need the hand stitch because I'd be doubtful the iron on backing alone would hold. The weight of the quilt is also why using stretchy fabric makes the sewing part not fun. But, if she does it with a tight woven fabric, the hand stitching part should be straightforward. No need to worry about overstretching or needle holes in the weave or all those other fun problems that happen when you sew those thinner knit type fabrics. It should also lay flat easily (even if it needs a quick press first) which makes it easier to cut/design the patches. Depending on how good her needlework and scissorwork is, there is a lot she can do with each patch that could add a lot to the quilt. Patching doesn't have to be done invisibly. Some of the best patching/mending work is done creatively. It can add a really nice decorative touch and give her the chance to add a bit of her own personality to the piece. I honestly think she will be happy with her work when it is all said and done.

I did use iron backing the first time but it was the crap version.
I forgot it was the crap version until my jacket started peeling.
I really need to take a photo of the good stuff so I quit forgetting five minutes after I buy it.
Also an issue was washing it. Wilbur peed on it so it went in the washing machine.
The washing and the weight of the wet quilt pulled on the fabric causing the patches to separate. DH drying it caused the exposed sticky to dry and the cheap fabric shrank and rolled up.
I was able to pull most of them off pretty easy.
One stayed on so I'm going to go back over it and hand sew so it continues to stay put.

I volunteered to take a friend to the airport this Saturday at 7:30. I told him to prepare to see a side of me he's never seen. He's used to the glam version and he's getting the raw version at 7:30 am.

Your new plan with different fabric should work just fine.

But as a female there is an argument to support singing Lizzo. Her songs are very female positive and full of female confidence.

How long have you been on the sulfa? It usually takes about three days to have an allergic reaction. Second thought, do you have an apple allergy and that's why you think just rinsing the fruit could be it? I'm inclined to suspect a sulfa reaction.

Since you say you have many known allergies, I'm puzzled why you don't keep something like Benadryl on hand when traveling. Perhaps you should see your allergist about getting an Epi-Pen; they are not fun to use but definitely beat the alternative. Now that you will be the caretaker for your grandson from time to time, as well as your daughter, you need to be prepared to deal with your allergies before they reach the crisis level. Does your grandson know how to use your phone to call 911 for assistance if you or your daughter have a crisis when he's there and you are incapacitated?

The nail salon was a madhouse today, all sixteen chairs filled and refilled repeatedly. A mom brought in her 3 daughters, 5, 8, and 11 for a girls day out. The 5-year-old had us all in stitches because she was as thrilled about her pink toes as a human being could be. I learned something new - chrome nails are pretty but expensive. Two teen sisters got them, $70 each. Me, I got bright blue glitter polish Two of the nail techs have teenage sons who aren't allowed to sit at home this summer playing video games. They are being trained in towel folding, chair sterilization, taking phone calls and making appointments, restocking supplies, serving beverages to clients, processing credit card payments, and whatever mom asks.

this afternoon in the porch office has been a bit interesting. I was sitting here, minding my own business cranking out paperwork, when an SUV pulled off the road in front of my house and a young woman got out. she went up to the front door across the street and started pounding on it, saying she was going to call the cops and she wasn't leaving til she got her money. okay! my interest is piqued, and I turned off the background noise. what I was able to hear from here (didn't want to draw attention to myself, even as the dogs barked here and there) was that it was a FB yard sale-ish transaction that went sideways. ordinarily not my business, except I knew Mom was at the vet with the pup after we had talked earlier today, and that the son wasn't home. so this shouting woman was screaming at a 12-13yo girl who was home alone. I called in to ask for a cruiser to check up on the situation for that reason. well, 2 cruisers arrived at different times, so shouting woman must have also called. but it's been a mess here this afternoon, and I've had other neighbors messaging me to ask WTF was going on. this house across the street is in my line of sight when I'm working from my kitchen peninsula, but it's clear as day direct line of sight when I'm on the deck and facing the street. everyone I know and like is okay, PD is gone. I chatted a bit with Mom, and she's baffled as well. but I'll be making note of the unfamiliar cars that pull in to her driveway in the next few weeks, as she's not sure she trusts the answers she got from her son, who blamed some other friends for whatever the argument was about. whatever, that's fine. I'm here. and if it makes the neighborhood safer for those of us that forget to lock our cars sometimes, I'm in to help. and how was your day? woof.
