Actually, not boo. I'm really disappointed. Job searching is so soul sucking and ego crushing. Even when you don't actually need a job it still hurts. I cried when I didn't get the Associate microbiologist position I originally shot for. Then got mad again when I read the SOPs and realized I have all the damn skills I just didn't think to mention them because they weren't relevant to the position I was describing. Those things were contaminates in my previous job so I didn't include them. Here they are very relevant. I didn't stop to think about the fact I was trying to switch fields.

I am trying to console myself thinking that since I had a CT scan of my abdomen and pelvis in January and an abdominal ultrasound of all my organs last September, some of the potential issues I might have would’ve been seen then if they were present. I know the abdominal ultrasound included my kidneys because when I got halfway home she called and asked me to come back because she forgot to do one of my kidneys. Of course something could have popped up since those tests, but at least that would mean (I hope) that it hasn’t been brewing for a long time. I hope that’s not all just wishful thinking. Anyway, The Walk of the Penguin Mich asked if I remember how I cooked the pork butt. I smoked it on our charcoal grill, over indirect heat at 250° until the internal temperature in the middle reached 190°, not as high as if I wanted to pull it instead of slicing it. The last 2 hours were in the oven, with it wrapped in aluminum foil because I ran out of charcoal. I used hickory wood chips and regular charcoal. That left the sides of it tender enough that I had no choice but to pull that part. It was too late to eat it, so I left the middle intact and put it in the refrigerator still wrapped up. Yesterday when I tried to slice it (cold), it didn’t slice right because the bone was in the way and I think it was still too tender for slices anyway. It came off in chunks instead of slices, which was fine. The next time I want slices, I’ll try a tenderloin instead. To prep it the night before, Mister slathered it with mustard, then used a seasoning blend I made for a rub. I covered it and put it in the refrigerator overnight. The finishing sauce I made (the one that set my mouth on fire at first), I had to improvise with the recipe, then Mister had to help me fix it because it was way too vinegary on top of being too spicy. He just added brown sugar until it wasn’t so vinegary. Yesterday when I tasted it, it was still just a little spicy (but nothing close to the fire that it was at first), but when I drizzled it over the meat on my plate, it was very good and not spicy at all. I guess the heat calmed down as it sat in the refrigerator overnight. I went to Costco to buy the scalloped potatoes they sell, and they didn’t have it, but they had macaroni and cheese by the same company, so I bought that to try. From now on, I will try to keep both stocked at home and freeze them. They are SO good! When I bought the potatoes the first time, I thought I might have to “doctor” them, but nope for either one, they are perfect. They are also convenient since they are already cooked, you just have 20 heat them for 20 minutes or so. They have no artificial stuff or preservatives in them. Mister cooked spinach. While I was eating, some of the finishing sauce ran into the spinach on my plate, and that tasted great too. So I think it might work with greens too, similar to the pepper sauce my Grandmother use to make for greens. It was one of the best meals I’ve ever cooked, if not THE best. I can’t eat as much as I use to, which is probably a good thing because I use to eat a LOT, so I didn’t even finish my plate. But Mister used the pulled portion to make a sandwich with the finishing sauce, then ate another one. And 2 helpings of the max and cheese, plus the spinach. I will definitely make that meal again.

I don’t do this frequently, as it’s so good it has to be a zillion calories, and there is little self control once I start eating it.

No. I really don’t even know how to cook, that’s why I was so excited about how well my pork butt turned out lol.

I’m finally at the airport to head home. This has been a long 2 weeks. I was able to get a slightly earlier flight and I’m chilling in the airline lounge while I wait. I’m a convert. Airline lounges rock. For as much traveling as I do, I’m going to be buying a yearly pass soon, lol. Free snacks, free mimosa, free Wi-Fi. I’m living the high life

Meeting with big boss went way better than expected. New supervisor starts next week - I have been asked to reach out to big boss if I see him going down a rabbit hole that will not benefit anyone. Joy.

I don't know why I packed a swimsuit. Well...I do...my cousin insisted. But there is no way in hell I'm using it! I put it on last night and OMG. I really do look 7 months pregnant. A 7 month pregnant 54 year old. Carrot must have trashed my abdominal muscles completely.

I'm going to bury that half stick in some sinful florentine mac 'n cheese this weekend. I make a sauce with grana padano cheese and stir in chopped spinach. it's phenomenal.

I care quite a bit though! I'm not a huge fan of pools anymore, so I don't know that I'd really even want to. I think my cousin wants us to hang out in the "adults only" pool/hot tub area.

I wear swim shorts and tankini tops. It's fine. I have one top that shows off the girls, but not my lumpectomy scar. Eliminate the need for folks to look at my belly. ETA: It's not appropriate for cub scout camp. Learned the hard way on that one.
Fine for adult hot tubs.

Hubs is working at the rent house. I'm running up to work on the stove and oven to see if we ca salvage it. He doesn't think we can. I don't know.
The AC is fixed, the repairman said he found a lot of the parts?? I didn't ask where. I said well we wouldn't have fixed it because she wasn't paying rent. He said maybe they just did it to aggravate us.
Believe me it is not true that people in the cities are worst renters. We have had two of the worst rednecks here ever. I rented to black, hispanic, whatever, and whomever in the city. Divorced, single parent, gay, lesbian, and others. I never had the dirt or issues as I have had with these 2 people. I told hubs, glad we are getting older and have started selling because I don't want to deal with these kind of "white" people. I'm sure they are all trump supporters. And they think dems feel entitled, BS, is all I can say.
Went to the recycling center another person there too and not open. I walked to all the county buildings around it, all wide open, yelling for anyone. Not a soul in the whole complex. So had to go to Goodwill and see a sign there, they will take them. Yep, I had to pay $25 each, but I wasn't carrying them around longer to try and find the place open. The other lady said they are supposed to be on Thursday till 1. I was not a happy camper, but they are GONE.
Ok, off to the rent house and post office, bought paint for the lobby, going to work on it too. First need to wash the walls inside.

I can't wear most of my super cute heels anymore either. well, the ones I have left anyway. I sold a bunch of them a few years ago in the last house, which had even less closet space than this one does. coming from a townhouse that had more closet space than my parents' 3BR split, that was a harsh acclimation.

Yeah, my swim suit drawer was filled with all Victoria's Secret style suits. Pre-Carrot Hawaii and Puerto Rico trip attire for sure! I found one that was just a one piece black speedo...but I don't think I can. I suppose it depends how drunk I am.

I suppose it depends how drunk I am. if you still have time to make a Target run, I bought a 2pc tankini to replace the one I left in the cabin trash bin when I left the boat in Jan (?) after I kept a lifejacket on and risked overheating on a climbing hike in DR to have that life jacket keep my strapless top up. FTR, I didn't think that top was quite that old.....but woof. it wasn't okay. anyway, lots of tankini options at Target still. my cache of suits is all Mossimo, so that tells you how old they all are. go look, you might be surprised.

I fell down an internet rabbit hole today, while still answering "on fire" shit. I'll call it balance in the universe for yesterday. anyway! we have this website in MA that blogs about local news stories, the more salacious, the better. and however, if there's a hint of whatever is being reported isn't quite right, he chases it til the bitter end. I don't like the guy that writes it for a lot of reasons, but I will say that the deep dives he takes have yet to be wrong. the case I'm reading now, in Jan 2022, a Boston PD officer was found dead on the front lawn of the house of a <suburb> PD officer's front yard. PD arrested the girlfriend, accusing her of hitting him with her car after she left the house party and drove home, shitfaced. I got added to a FB group a few weeks ago, justice for <deceased and GF> and haven't really paid much attention past the stuff I've seen on the local news. well, yesterday am as I was waking up and scrolling FB, someone in that group posted autopsy pics (nothing gruesome, but clearly not getting hit by a car doing a 3-pt-turn) and I decided to scroll the group. apparently the blog has a 50+ part series on the coverup by the town PD, and there's a pile of evidence placing the deceased inside the house where he was apparently murdered and dumped out in the snowbank where he died of exposure. if anyone's interested in the link, lmk and I'll PM you. I don't live in this town, but it's a *very* townie town in MA. so none of what I'm reading surprises me, and I really hope this GF is straight out exonerated of this, bc it's fucking bullshit.

Agree with the "emergency" Target run. All my bathing suits, aside from the one I found at Marshall's last week, are all from Target. They have flattering (for me) one piece suits and they always have a good variety of tankini tops and all styles of bottoms.

Pink, have you ever thought of adding a touch of cinnamon to your savory rubs and sauces? Lovely. I put it in a quite a few savory dishes, from pork tenderloin rub to my home-made BBQ sauces. My guests say..."This is delicious! There's ...something...I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's really good!" They can't put their finger on it because they're not expecting cinnamon in a savory dish. Try it. Just a touch.

Yeah, my swim suit drawer was filled with all Victoria's Secret style suits. Pre-Carrot Hawaii and Puerto Rico trip attire for sure! I found one that was just a one piece black speedo...but I don't think I can. I suppose it depends how drunk I am. Bring the speedo and partner with at least 2 glasses of wine, maybe 3!! Enjoy! And don’t stress about anything!!

Maddow figured out a way to take his collar off. I wish he understood this is for his own good.

When I'm gone, whatever savings I have will go to DS. I want his de facto wife to have my jewellery. I have a lot of nice jewellery. DS certainly isn't going to wear it, although I want him to have my father's cross and wedding ring.
Anyway, poor Melody has had a hardscrabble existence, and as an impoverished single mom, has never had nice things. They came over the other night, and I gave her a gold chain with a small diamond. She was over the moon! I think I'll start giving her small pieces when I see her. She might as well enjoy them now. They've been together 18 years, and I don't expect them to break up anytime soon. And even if they do, there's nothing wrong with having a deserving young woman having my stuff.

Maddow figured out a way to take his collar off. I wish he understood this is for his own good. I tried various things over the years for my lizards and nothing worked. They have a different value system than we do and the programming of how to survive in the wild I think is very strong for some. Maybe Maddow listens slightly better than a lizard?

I started cleaning at the rental to help hubs. He started in a bedroom, I started in the kitchen. He said oh its not that bad, it's nasty. I worked and worked on the stove, took some parts off the front to clean under the glass and edges on the back, grease all under it. I used Krud Kutter, that stuff really cuts grease and got it off the sides and outside. I pulled out the broiler tray and oh my god. There were mouse traps under the pile of pans in it. The pans all had food debris in them, nasty, they had not been washed!! The bottom of the drawer in the stove is covered with grease, yuck, with mouse traps in it, double yuck. I brought the broiler pan home, I can save it the rest I trashed. I cleaned the inside of the door. The bottom of the oven has so much burned food in it looks about an inch thick, how it didn't get on fire I don't know. I'm going to take a spatula and try scraping it out and clean it then use the oven clean function and see if we can save the stove.
The dishwasher I cleaned the outside and all around the front but I'm not certain it works. The water is off in the kitchen?? The repairman got the AC fixed, so that's good. Hubs said he is sure the water heater is barely working so likely going to have to replace it. He said the ground is broke off or something, I'm not sure what it is. The bedroom door and casing needs replaced, has been broken and the folding doors in the bedroom.
I cleaned the countertops on one side, kitchen sink, and inside the lazy susan. I will need to clean and use restore wax on all the cabinet doors. I looked in the fridge and closed it, nasty too.
But the bathroom, oh the bathroom. I threw away the shower curtain and some junk under the sink and in drawers. The tub smells like a urinal so I poured fabulosa in it. Tomorrow taking clorox to clean it with. I did not want to sit on the toilet so cleaned it and washed the walls down around it far up as I could reach. I thought the bottom outside of the commode was grey, after spraying it with Krud Kutter and cleaning a couple of times found it was just dirt. I sprayed that stuff all over the walls and baseboard, had to use a knife to scrape the dirt off the tops of the receptacles and baseboard grooves. cleaned the sink, countertop and stuff we will use while there. Yes, I had on rubber gloves. I never had these issues in the big city with the people the rednecks around here look down their noses at. The last 2 renters have been the nastiest people I have ever dealt with. Glad we only have a few more to clean and get rid of. If it had been like this in the past we would have never had renters all these years. I'm about done with dirty people. I imagine our last 2 will be also, a guy in one and a guy and his daughter in the other. But after them we are done. It certainly has been a learning experience.
