So I read MPL's post where she mentions not having started packing yet for a trip that starts next Thursday. I have seen similar posts before and now I am curious: how long in advance do you all pack for a vacation (sorry mich your world cruise does not count here since a trip that long does take some serious planning). I will fess up to thinking I feel very well prepared, and probably overdoing it, if I start packing more than 24 hours before leaving. I also do not use a packing list. I just throw everything in my suitcase, stand in front of it and mentally dress myself to make sure it is all in there. Takes about 5 minutes after packing. I'm the same way. I'm usually throwing things in a suitcase the night before.

About to head out to the ball game. Last minute substitute as DH dropped the ball on scheduling my oil change, so we will be taking his truck which I will end up driving home. I'm ok with that, but dealing with a drunk passenger in his own vehicle may be a bit much. Or we might get a hotel room, which is my preference because tomorrow will the first birthday I've ever had without my aunt who I share a birthday with.
I'm all kinds of messed up right now.

I pack several days in advance.
DH packs literally right before we leave.
It drives me insane. Yeah I know we can always buy stuff he forgot but I don't want to spend my vacation in Target purchasing something we already own and would have with us if he prepared better.
Plus he's forgotten important things like medication that way.
Now I make him allot out what he needs for the next day and pack the bottle the night before.
Then we go through a checklist before walking out the door.

I'm really happy to spend time with dh's out of town family, but the last minute ever- changing plans are going to do me in. Add in that apparently dh knew that they'd be coming to our house but never mentioned anything or did any prep work. I'm not going to skip visiting to clean my house, but they're also not coming over without a good amount of house/yard and patio work being done so apparently I'm skipping sleep.

Just got back to the ship after a whale watching tour in Akureyri today. We saw more whales than we have in the last 3 of these trips I took from Anacortes……combined! It’s almost like they were putting on a show specifically for us. Even the guide said that she hadn’t seen so many, so frequent and just hanging around the ship.
Next stop is Isfjordur again, and we will be here 2 days. TD has a private ATV tour scheduled tomorrow evening, and since we are in port overnight, there is no issue about gettin* back on time.
I feel so sorry for the staff of the Neptune, they’re the ones dealing with the brunt of this GI outbreak. We can’t help ourselves to anything, so it means someone needs to do it…..so we wait in line. Then there is the hand washing police at the door. We always wash our hands before going in, but so many don’t.
Oh…..and TD found Lay’s salt and vinegar chips at the grocery store yesterday. He’s a happy camper!

Feeling better this morning, after handing the dog care for our trip over to DH. He found another place that had availability and was more reasonable on the price breakdown. Still trying to get the inherited IRA stuff straightened out but I think it’s close; just need to have them upload the latest version for me to sign. Also still trying to find a CPA or FOFP to consult on tax planning and strategy. I think I just used up all my adulting willpower by last night when the kennel called to collect my deposit for the online reservation but then informed me they did not actually have availability. I did not however regenerate sufficient maturity to go watch DS’ last soccer game. His learning disability is really obvious there...soccer games are also outsourced to DH Been banging away at household chores all morning, at least.

Another reason I start packing early is we are so disorganized, ESPECIALLY with clothes and finding things is sometimes a chore. Things could be anywhere. The laundry room, in one of four laundry baskets, in totes or on my bed, and in my kid's case at their dad's houses. I was trying to find Carrot's swim trunks forever and realized his dad still had him from when they went to the Dells. We also only fly every few years (the last time I flew was 2017), so no travel sized anything laying around or dedicated toiletry bag for travel.

I couldn't bring myself to trim last night as it was so hot, but I cleaned the chicken coop out thoroughly and mowed the pasture, so still was productive anyhow. However, trimming still needs to be done, so I'm going to force myself to work on it for awhile this morning. It's not hot, but horribly humid. I'd wait until evening, but looks like storms are coming.

I keep saying I'm going to organize my bathroom and make one spot for my travel stuff as much as I travel. But my efforts never make it up the second floor. And the storage in my bathroom is just crap. There's no closet, just 2 double cabinets under the double sink. So those just become black holes with no structure.
Then inevitably DH is complaining about where something is and I have to stop and find it. I'm also the one packing the stuff like sunscreen, medicine bag, tickets, sun pass for Florida, water bottles and so on.

today's gonna be expensive, I think. I paid for most of the hardware already, but mooch is finally up to install the outdoor shower and electric water heater. I am waiting on a coffee order on my way back from a home depot run that was ~$100 and I know it won't be the last run there today. Did your house situation get fixed? I'm really happy that you're getting some of the things you want done. 👍

My dear old hubs got home last night or this morning about 4. I thought I heard someone at the laundry room door. Only because Smokey jumped up and was growling. I looked out and saw his truck so unlocked the door and turned on the garage light. No hubs?? So I hear a noise, he was using the keypad for the front door trying not to wake me up. He slept off and on till about 10 this morning and he is on the go again. My energizer bunny, I told him, he needs to slow down a little. He just grins.
So he went down to get the little mower and going to hook up my water wagon. It's supposed to rain tomorrow, but if not, I'm going to need it. Then he is going to mow down there. I told him mowing with that small mower in a big yard is awful. The zero turn is easy to get around, the little one has a wheel base that makes big turns so just a pain to manipulate. I would have mowed again if he hadn't come home though.
And he wants to go look at the empty house to see what needs done there. I don't even want to think about it, it's mainly just dirt, even though its been swept and picked up inside. EVERYTHING needs washed and cleaned. Not sure I can save the stove.
Still I'm in a good mood, so happy to see him. We need to figure something out on us both going together. We were talking about that. There is so much he has to catch up here in that short time though.

I have a tote in the bedroom I'm putting things in I don't want to forget. I will take one big suitcase for DD and I summer clothes and shoes. A carryon for pulls, yes, lots of pills for 2 months. I will go through them this week to see if I have enough of everything. That is our biggest must have. Anything else I could buy but would rather not if I already have it.
I will bring those items back home as will have Sept and Oct that they can be worn. We have basics we have left up there.
As usual I'm sleepy but need to feed DD and I something. Should I take a short nap. Maybe

Less than 30 minutes until the car picks us up and we'll be off to the airport. It's going to be a long day. By for a while - I'll check in when I can. Everyone be safe.

It better not change again! yup, that was on today's to-do list. I've been able to spray down all the stuff I has to take out of the shed to make room for the water heater. he took care of the faucet first, while I was on the HD run. the shower isn't totally all set, I need to call the electrician back to wire up the heater. mooch wasn't expecting a 3-wire source waiting for him, and doesn't want to risk wiring the wrong ones. but, everything else is in place if you're up for a cold shower lol..

We almost had a "cat" catastrophe tonight. When I got home it was like after 8 and I unloaded the car so got to be 8:30, the cats ran out when we opened the door. Way to late even though its daylight but the varmints start coming out and I don't want them getting in fights with coons and other animals, they will lose. Next time I will shut them out by closing the inner laundry room door. I started calling them, Tigger ran in first, normally Smoke does. I looked out the back door and there was a small skunk, probably a baby running across the yard and Smoke was right after him. He was hanging back a few foot, at least. But OH MY GOD! I'm yelling he is ignoring me I start after him just have on light weight new socks and no shoes on. But he is pretty much staying by the pipe that empties the sump pump way out in the yard. I'm thinking the skunk is young enough it, it didn't spray and kept moving and I think went into the pipe. Couldn't tell as there are some weeds there. So I'm calling hoping he doesn't take off running as that's far as I go, its woods after that, and sure don't want to run into mom. I get out there and he is looking in the pipe, I pick him up and start for the house. Thankfully he does not mind leaving or me carrying him. I'm kissing him and he is very docile so we made it, my poor feet were killing me though. If he had been after an adult skunk the outcome would have likely been very bad, I'm going to make sure they are not able to get out after about 7 from now on. But if he ever got sprayed bet he would never go near another skunk again. But I'm thinking he would have had to stay on the porch till I could get him to the vet tomorrow and get him sedated for baths. I sure got lucky, actually we both got lucky. Cats tend to get along with skunks, unlike dogs. My cat used to eat out of the same bowl as the skunks...at the same time. Just in case, the magic recipe for skunk smell is one part liquid soap, one part peroxide and one part baking soda.

I'm the super organized one, in my marriage and also our friend groups, so I'm always making the advanced packing listing, doing all the research and putting together a loose itinerary, and making sure we are out the door when I say we need to be out the door. Husband has a habit of forgetting something important, like underwear, so I have to quiz him on everything. Then there's me who packs days in advance so I have time to visualize and edit. I'm very particular about hair and skin products so I always make sure I have TSA-sized products of my preferences ready to go, and it helps when some products, like facial serums and moisturizers, are already under 3.4 ounces. I prefer to carry-on there and check my bag on the flight home, if needed. When we go to Aruba, we're out the door at 5 a.m., parking our car at the airport lot a little after 5:30, in line for security by 6 a.m., enjoying coffee and breakfast by 7 a.m., boarding starts around 7:45, waving hello to Aruba by 1:30 p.m!
We're going down the shore this upcoming weekend for a few days, so I'll write a list this week, pack and go to the grocery store on Friday, do a final edit Saturday morning before we pack up the car and leave. Once I find a parking spot I don't move my car when we're there; we'll use MIL's car if we need to hit a store since she usually takes the spot that comes with the house, since she rents the place.

I feel so bad. I accidently cut in to the quick of Amelia's claw this morning. There was blood. She seems to have forgiven me. If she would cooperate, this wouldn't happen.
I was a bad cat mom.

Going to start a load of laundry (mostly towels) and plug in the mower battery for later. We've had a lot of rain. The front lawn looks nice and full, but a bit too overgrown.

Poor baby, so far I haven't done that, but never say never. Hubs didn't believe me that the cats wouldn't bother us last night. I told him if he shut our door I would have to get up and shut them in their room. So he opened it. Tig came in and lay on my feet, likely because hubs was home and that changed things. He said there he comes, I told him let it go and bet he just goes to sleep, he did. So that worked well and all of us went to sleep. I'm not sure where Smoke was. They just don't want that door closed. I need to get out and water my landscaping. Have I said how happy I am to have my hubs home.

My brother claims all good projects require 3 trips to Lowe's/Home Depot. He replaced all of our yucky beige outlets and covers in 2 trips. I found out later by chance that required a permit. The county is insane, I'm not pulling a permit to swap existing outlets. My brother is a licensed electrician. I trust him 1000% more than some person I don't know. That’s insane!! I wouldn’t pull a permit either.

Our home up there already had the valuation doubled and sons went up too. He is already paying over $5000 a year taxes. I don't see how that is sustainable. A lot of money for sure, wonder what ours will raise too? And you can bet the park has gone up too which may raise the rent more than $50 a month. I think we better fix it nice, we may have to sell it in a couple of years at this raise. Since 21, sons has raised $3000 a year, don't know what this new raise will do. But hubs said where could he buy for less? Well he can but further out and not what either of them want. And they want little guy in the good school. Hope sons salary keeps pace.

So I defrosted and reorganized my chest freezer. There were a few things I haven't been able to find by digging. Turns out, it's because we apparently already ate that stuff.
