I'm waiting to go to the ortho for my knee evaluation. My knee is so much better from rest, ice, TENS treatments.

Got DD's blood work done, yes! Forgot the sheets so didn't get them returned.
I finally got the floral arrangement on dad and mom's grave. I need to take buckets of water and clean their stone, ours, some aunts and uncles there and BIL's. I will one day.
Going to take a quick nap than go out and mow this yard for hubs.
We ate lunch at the hospital after the blood work, they have good food. At first DD said yuck, then she tried it and really liked it.

I’ve been looking at the old “prepare for college“ thread and couldn’t find the answer. Has anyone bought stuff for their college bound kid st Costco and dealt with returns while the kid is out of state? I’d like to buy kid some stuff to take to an out of state college so he’ll be too far away for me to do any returns myself. Does anyone know how that would work? Would it work? Should we open a basic Costco account in kid’s name, buy stuff through his membership so that he can take care of returns? If we use our membership, we get rewards, so it’s a money question 🙃

I had 10 years of frustrating paperwork for MIL. The VA was the worst, like to lost what mind I have left. Have dealt with DD's all her life but we will just say 40 years or so. If I live long enough to get out from under that would be something. But I doubt I do, what a nightmare. And it never ends trying to dot every i and cross every t.

We are 2-1/2 hours into the scheduled 4 hour power outage and it's been amazing to watch these guys work. They are replacing the transformer and all the connections. After years of frequent, hours-long, blue sky outages, the work they did last year really stabilized things in this area. The generator has been humming merrily and we are cool and comfy. My neighbors aren't cool and comfy. ETA: They just flipped the switch and, like magic, we are back on the grid and the generator is asleep

Yes it’s a difficult never ending mind numbing job countrygirl. I did this for my DS for many years too But rewarding because without you doing this your DD wouldn’t have such a good life. In my charity work I see many deaf and deafblind folks whose families want nothing to do with them. Most of these poor people have difficulty comprehending these forms but social workers help a lot. But what really hurts them is knowing their families don’t want to help or love them

I looked it up and our lot is 7,137 sq ft with our little 1,366 sq ft house sitting 25 feet back from the street. Our back yards are really big here.

I thought I posted. But I didn't. Crazy day so far. Went well. They used some of the same language I used to answer a question at the end of the interview. I figure that has to be a good sign. Some remarked that it sounded like I was familiar with the job duties.
But, a ton of applicants. So now we wait. And continue to apply.

I think we bought our vet a new yacht that month. the cardboard Punk ate back in March put her over $20k in lifetime payouts from her Trupanion policy. well worth its premium value, IMO. b/c if I still had my head up my ass about the level of debt I was in back in my last house, there's no way I could have paid for any of the three surgeries. if any of you with new pups would like a referral code, please lmk! the worst thing LD's ever done was to counter surf while a whole chicken was cooling on the stove (pushed back from the edge, too ). neither pup looked to be in discomfort, so I just had to wait it out. well, 2 or 3 days later, he finally unloaded on my white quilt around 1am. Punk got a paw in it, and climbed me like a tree to get away from the pile. so it got all over my pillows, in my hair, etc. I threw both of them out back while I rolled everything up and trashed it, including pillows and mattress cover. then all three of us took an outdoor shower before I'd let them back in the house. I opened my bedroom windows to air it out, shut that door and slept on the couch that night.

Just got results from cancer marker in blood. Before treatment was 6000 (normal is 25), then last month down to 3000 , yesterday 700. Very happy to see efficacy in numbers also feeling better! That is wonderful news! Hope you’re feeling well and keep hanging in there through the therapy!

Kinda regret not bringing up something in our meeting.
They were discussing how it may be possible for the lab to do 4 day work weeks here and one from home. It was rightly pointed out that at least three of us cannot do our jobs from home so what about us? Several people suggested we find creative ways for those of us who can't do our full jobs from home to do "something" from home so we can enjoy the perk once and awhile even if it is not a weekly thing.
Like for me it'd maybe me once a month or every other week and I'd do literature digs or work on personal career development or something.
One of the uppity ups kept bringing up well that's just the nature of the job sometimes, some people cannot work from home. Which I agree with him there
BUUUUUUT
What I saw at the previous company when they took this attitude is people are not stupid. They know there are more jobs than people out there. Why stay in a production job where I have to go in 5 days a week come hell or high water when I could likely get one of those nice WFH jobs instead?
So people quit and now they cannot fill the roles or keep them filled because again, people are not stupid.
It is the same at DH's company they can't keep people in the warehouses or plants because people are turning around to find a cushy office job instead.
Can they build me a lab at home? No. However these types of jobs are going to have to eventually evolve as well if companies want a chance in hell of keeping them filled. They are going to have to think outside the box for some sort of perk/benefit that evens out the fact our jobs cannot be done from home. Something that will make it worth you being the only person in the entire lab on a Friday while everyone else gets to enjoy the outside world. Otherwise all these types of jobs are going to become transient and you're going to lose a lot of skill and tribal knowledge that way.

Those that are allowed to take their paperwork or training material to work from home couple of days a month would be grateful for it. They can see how the ones working from home even a couple of days a week are saving on gas, time and comfort. They were given the same raise as the rest of us that still need to come to office/lab every day and we were not given a smidge more to offset that.

They were given the same raise as the rest of us that still need to come to office/lab every day and we were not given a smidge more to offset that. That was the suggestion or that when I WFH I start working on developing the next phase of my career. As I pointed out in the job thread I have a unique skill set that would make me valuable towards the idea that there become a micro/chemistry joint team. I can do literature digs from anywhere I have access to the internet. And several people in the lab pointed out it doesn't have to be an every single week thing for any of us either. We'd all just like the equal opportunity to do so. Like instead of burning vacation should DH need someone to watch the kids I can actually WFH instead. It was also suggested our days would be scheduled in advance, nobody gets an email of "hey was in the mood to work from home". We'd arrange them around our schedules and if like I got slammed I would just cancel my WFH day that week or we'd trade days with someone. Training back-ups was brought up so more people can cycle through areas so that way the person here doesn't get hosed and/or the person WFH doesn't walk into a shit show. There were some really good ideas to make it as fair as possible for everyone. It was only one upper person that kept pointing out "Well that's just how it is with some jobs". That is how you breed resentment and eventually lose people.

I know I am busiest Tues-Thursday so it would be best if I did WFH Monday through Friday to ease hte workload. What is not fair is to expect 3 people to always be in the lab no matter what because of our stupid job titles. That is how you breed resentment and eventually lose people. Yes, that is how they will lose people because they will go someplace else where this benefit will be available. It is such a silly hill to die on (lose quality employees) yet here we are. I was reading back and see that @chiver is in a similar situation where her previously remote position is changing so they will lose her too. Will they learn? Maybe, but will it be too late, it’s anybody’s guess.

No, thank you. I don't want to live in a place where you need security to walk you to your car after shopping at Walmart. I prefer to live where I am, with no bars on the windows and where people often don't lock their doors. And no guns. You are overly generalizing. I don't need security to walk me anywhere including my front yard at 3 am if Penny needs to go. There are no bars on my windows. And don't tell me people never get robbed or shot where you live. That place is somewhere over the rainbow. If those are your only requirements, the bar is pretty low. Soup and Stew posted that people need security to walk to their cars from Walmart in her area. I'm going by what she said.

I think what he didn't grasp is none of us are asking to be able to do a regular 4 days on one WFH in a lab. We are all professional adults with years of lab experience we know how it operates. I fully recognize that my job is never going to be one that can be 100% remote or even 50% remote.
What we are interested in is being allowed to have that option like the salaried people in the lab. It is being brought up as a way to attract new talent and keep people they currently have. I am glad that at least my direct department senses the way the wind is blowing and has listened to the grumbling that came out of COVID and wants to make attempts to level things out for lab people.

How do you get a house on that! Our half lots in town are teeny tiny and they are 25 x 150 so 3750 square feet. The houses are long and skinny, then a tiny yard and the garage in back on the alley. Easy! It's a 1911 semi-detached home, so it's been this way for over 100 years. Both my lot and my connected neighbor's lot are 2200 SQ ft and our houses are 1480 SQ ft. I live in a dense suburb. Most houses here are old semi-detached or row homes. There are some single homes atop the hill. When we finally put a parking spot in back it will take up a little of the yard but it won't take up any garden space. We have a reel mower but it's easier to cut the grass with the weed Wacker. I love my tiny space; I have a garden, two small Japanese maples, a rose of Sharon, a patio with table and four chairs, a giant umbrella, and still space to lay in the grass if I want. I could easily buy a house where the structure would be larger than the lot size, so a 2200 SQ ft lot is not bad at all, especially for someone who doesn't want a lot of land to take care of. I haven't heard that since I read the Grapes of Wrath.

It was traumatic.

If we use our membership, we get rewards, so it’s a money question 🙃 Why don't you just add the kid as an authorized user on your Costco card? That's what I did with DS2 and he was able to use it at college and I reaped the rewards (and paid for his purchases).

If we use our membership, we get rewards, so it’s a money question 🙃 Why don't you just add the kid as an authorized user on your Costco card? That's what I did with DS2 and he was able to use it at college and I reaped the rewards (and paid for his purchases). Both cards are in use so the kid would need a brand new membership.

Slides = shoes!? Opps, this was a child slide for playing on. Unless Macy is Clifford-sized and is walking around with a child's slide in her mouth! She's a pretty big dog, but not quite that big.
