As if I don’t already have enough going on, now I have a UTI. The symptoms started last night, and it’s already gone from 0-60 and bleeding. Like I don’t have enough painful shit already going on in my abdomen. I have an appointment at a CVS MinuteClinic this afternoon. I’m grateful I can be seen somewhere today, but overall, I am just disgusted. AZO is awesome, get yourself some. It's the only way I can survive a UTI till the anti-biotics get to work. Warning it turns your pee BRIGHT neon orange. Like stains the toilet and your underwear level orange. So don't freak out. AZO is a gift from the gods

I use the OTC Azo for near immediate relief, but mine have never progressed to blood. I used to not need antibiotics after a couple days of Azo as they would clear up on their own, but the older I get the less likely they are to clear on their own.

Managed to get my mirror repair from $622 to $190, so I'm good with that. Half my running around done for the day. It is soooo hot and I don't have AC in the van.

This is one of the big three warning signals/codes to me when I did the EMR for patients coming in - UTI, Dehydration, and I think Generalized weakness. Drink fluids, many, and report back on the AZO.

I can count on one hand the number of UTIs I've had in my life so far but every single one of the F-ers progressed quickly to blood and needed antibiotics. It was fun figuring out I was resistant to sulfa drugs. They'd make me take those then a week later I'd be back in the office. I LOVE the fact we now have electronic records for this reason. The last one the PA put it into my chart and now it follows me anywhere I get an appointment. No more having to argue with people about it and having to get records moved around to "prove" I am telling the truth. Dude it's freaking Cipro it's not like I am asking for Oxycontin. I can pop into the walk in after work and walk right out with a scrip. So much easier.

Need to eat some veggies and order groceries. Then figure out how I am getting to and from work tomorrow. Saturday bus schedule and it starts later. We start a little earlier. Sleeping like crap because of the heat and low humidity. Asked coworker to pick me up even though it is out of his way. (Used to live very close to me, and now in the opposite direction of me in relation to where we work.) If I get affordable housing or 55+ housing I am wanting... maybe I will be on his side of the tracks next year?
Moon Shadow is whining. Tempted to eat some of his romaine lettuce in front of him without sharing... but I won't. I'll share.

I've had 2 in the last 3 years, without having had one in over a decade. I'm allergic to sulfa. It's ridiculous how hard we have to advocate for non habit forming drugs.

Maybe yes, maybe no. Costco could never fill my eyeglass prescription. It largely depends on strength and complexity. It was very annoying, even though they’d order my gas permeable contacts. I did buy my frames there though. That does not give me hope, with my double astigmatism. Sorry. Mine was a -12 prescription along with needing high index lenses and bifocals. They could do any 1, not all 3.

Every once in a while you all make me feel like I am left out of a club I really don't want to be a member of to begin with. Like neither of my kids ever had head lice, or 4 years ago when I was freaked out about an eye infection -> it was the first time in my life I ever had to deal with pink eye. Neither siblings, nor kids, nor I had ever had it. And now - I can't really be the only 71yo female who has never had a UTI can I now?

I didn't get the house at the senior living community that I wanted. There will be another, but it was very discouraging. Did you know that "discourage" means not having courage? That's me. I am so scared of this whole process that I have embarked on.
Meanwhile I took a tumble down my 3 porch steps. I had donated the contents of 12 bins of Christmas decorations that were hiding in a basement closet so today I washed those bins. I lined them up along the edge of the driveway to dry. Penny took a dislike when she saw them and darted sideways as fast as she could, landing me on my knee and left wrist. I broke a wrist not too many years ago with a fall less hard than this one. But I'm fine now. Nothing even hurts, and there is no swelling, etc. (When I broke my wrist the other time, I had no pain and was able to drive myself home. But the swelling is probably what stopped the pain then.) Still, it reinforced my determination to leave this house before it kills me.
The Salvation Army is coming Thursday to get the furniture out of the basement. I couldn't even give it away to poor people who are on NextDoor and Facebook begging for free furniture even though it is clean, comfortable, and has no damage. It is forest green so not the latest color. Whatever. Some people aren't fans of the Salvation Army, but they are the only thrift group in the area that will come in to get it.

It's pretty rare for me. The majority of them have hitch hiked on top of me already being extremely sick with something else. I have never had pink eye. I never got lice as a kid but they were super strict about it when I was in school. Now that it is a health nuisance you aren't sent home anymore, which I understand there were kids that missed A LOT of school in my day, it does make it a hell of a lot easier for them to spread. Plus they are resistant to damn near everything on the market now so that doesn't help. That translated into me getting my first set of lice in my 30s. DH said on the bright side at least I was old enough to understand and hold still while he picked my head.

I have screwed up on hydration since I've been 60 but managed to avoid the hospital. Only a couple bouts of that. I'm 63 today. Who knows how old I am in the multiverse?

I got my Cipro scrip and when I checked out at the front desk, I demanded they put in my records to never allow that woman to treat me again. bitch. what are the product names of the sulfa options? I'm pretty sure I've been given Cipro straight out each time. the only reason that's notable to me is that I'm allergic to other antibiotics, and I was a lot nervous about it the first time I needed it.

Just so you know, don't screw with sulfa drugs. Always insist on getting a blood test before taking sulfa as a prescription. I had a cousin who died from sulfa, because the small-town doctor was too stupid to do the blood test first.

Google sulfonamides to find a list. A big one is trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim). Cipro is a fluoroquinolone and a safer alternative to sulfas.

I can handle most antibiotics, but my doctor won't give me Cipro anymore. I took it after surgery and broke out with horrible purple blotches on my face & neck. Doc said I had an "impressive" allergic reaction to it. Anyway, it IS a good drug, just some of us are sensitive to it.

In my more sexually active days, UTI's were a freaking nightmare. And back in those dark ages, there were no minute clinics and you had to have a urinalysis before they would prescribe anything.
I had two UTI's back in 2020 and 2021 in the dead of winter. I went to the local urgent care and 30 minutes later was on my way with prescriptions. The antibiotic (I don't remember the name) cost $45 because it's not a preferred generic in my formulary but I didn't care. Best $$ I ever spent. I attributed them partly to a lack of hydration in cold weather. The other problem is that I have very large capacity bladder and can go many hours without going even though I drink a lot of water. I've trained myself to hit the head whether I need to or not to keep bacteria from getting a head start

ain't that the truth. I manage to catch everything in a spray radius, and after a handful of close exposures to COVID, I've still <knocks wood> tested positive. I can't even begin to try to explain it.

Shoot, I didn't even get covid from sharing a bed with DH for a few nights. Got it from the damn indoor playground I took the missy to.

Susana, I am so sorry you did not get the one you wanted but do your best to believe it was for a good reason. One thing I have to tell myself constantly now - What is the least I could do? And this is a warning to myself to not overdo. What is the least I could do to accomplish my goal? I don't know if you saw Biden's quick fall after the long graduation, but I think what he did was simply turn too fast and too sharp because he was tired and hot. I do not heal as fast as I did when I was younger. I have a horrible tendency to try to do more than I am capable of physically or mentally, simply because I want to. And sometimes that leads to mistakes that take time to heal and/or are constly. You have the added complication of a small dog that is going to do small dog things as well. Take it slow. Remember, what is the least I can do? Maybe next time consider that not all bins have to be washed the same day? Maybe today does not feel like a safe bin washing day. If and when I get a dog I want it to be big and sturdy enough that if I have to fall on it or vice versa, we both would be mostly OK. (TMI) I'll stop now but close with saying today seemed to be crazy day at work and even kind of on the bus route. Be careful and I hope your forest green furniture goes to someone who will appreciate it.

Carrot had lice once, but that was a quick fix. We basically shaved his head and were done with it. Pink eye I don't know how to answer. The school used to send ODS home with "pink eye" all the time, but as he got older we realized he just gets that way occasionally and Visine fixes it as well as antibiotics, so chances are he never actually had it.

Eating the second half of a can of Campbell's chicken noodle soup. Stomach has gotten better over the day, but still not great. And a bodily function showed up that means infection for me. Setup an urgent care appointment for tomorrow.
