I've been looking for a better job for DH. He gets paid way too little for the responsibility, and his company likes to keep raises down at 3%. That's what his coworker got. We went on vacation, and he had to worry about doing stuff for work. Sorry, that's BS for someone who makes in the $50k range.

Yeah they put way too many expectations on my department for what they pay me. Through the grapevine not only have I figured out we're not paid industry standard but we're paid lower than the majority of the company. The only department more screwed over than us is production. Yet the workload keeps getting bigger and we are expected to babysit other departments. On top of the ever changing and increasing demands of our sales department to pull stuff out of our ass (this is what happens when you let non-scientists do science). I don't mind work but I expect proper compensation for it. I don't even hit $50k yet I've been pressured to do work at a masters/PhD level. Uh no you want me to do PhD level work then you pay me what you are paying the other PhDs who work here. Or make them do it since they were actually hired to do it. I am SO OVER the idea that I need to just be grateful I have a job and that my "compensation" is I haven't been fired yet. That may have worked in the 1950s where our $400 vaccination bonus could buy a car but not in 2021.

I think my main goal for 2022 is to not have $12,000 worth of work done on the house! Lol. 2021 was a doozy for (necessary) repairs and replacements.
I would like to help my husband find a new job. His hours and pay are nice, and that's about it. The owners of his company are garbage people, his coworkers are garbage people, and his PTO is garbage. So we need to work on his resume (I'm an editor so he HATES doing anything with words with me) and also figure out how to translate his skills to something else, if he wishes to get out of his industry altogether. But it's not a desperate situation, so I'm just going to let him decide when to start working and looking.
For me, I want to continue hiking regularly and to stick with getting out every weekend. I did really good last year with winter hiking, it was my August heat break that killed my habit a little. I finally got back in my habit in October.
Aside from those, my goal is to keep on keeping on. I like my job and have no desire to look, our finances are okay, and I generally like our life.

30 minutes a day training for career goals.
Take concrete steps on starting side hustle with dh
Continue upping my time spent at the gym- Want to lose 20 to 30 pounds
Go all in on the anti-inflammatory diet, and bring my family with me.

So I am going to do career counseling to help redefine my skills and resume so I can do this right this time. This job was never meant to be forever but I've been stuck on what to do next.

I found my DH 2 good job openings to apply for. He's super picky, and he liked both--even the part-time one! It paid a nice hourly rate and sounded pretty easy.

jobs/housingWe have plans for this year--as opposed to goals or resolutions that will dictate one of my goals We're selling our house, finding new jobs, and moving somewhere. A goal within that is to not go into any debt except for the next mortgage. professional educationI'm also continuing in a three-year doctorate in educational leadership program. I'm in the middle of the second year, so the plan is to advance to candidacy by this summer. I currently have a 4.0--though there are at least two classes I'm not sure I actually earned that 'A'. Within that plan is one goal: to maintain that GPA. My BS was semen laude (while having two children), and my master's GPA is a 3.85; I know I'm capable of the 4.0 for my DEd. equanimity
--focus on good, not get bogged down in bad --not have knee-jerk reactions to challenges, frustrations, annoyances --not use food or wine to numb bad things --track this by journaling --when I do have a detrimental reaction to something, make sure I both acknowledge it, reflect on it, and apologize for it physical health--lose 20 pounds (2021's goal was to lose ten pounds, and I went the other direction.) --consistently exercise four to five days per week --track this with myfitnesspal for weight and a daily & yearly tracker for exercise I guess we know how you got two children while in college...

That reminds me. I have to do this, too. As long as I get it in before Monday morning, it shouldn't be a problem. As a work benefit this year, I enrolled in legal coverage meaning to do a will. Well, that didn't happen--oops! I'm good with my state's defaults anyway. Ours is pretty slow. I'd say a good 7-10 days. We initiate the change on the Prudential website, then however long it takes them to contact payroll to make the changes. Since payroll has to be submitted on Tuesday (and we're off Monday), it would be a miracle. Oh well. Yeah...it didn't go through. First paycheck of the year was $200. Off to a great start!

I am almost through the first week of forcing myself to get back into the habit of cooking every night. With all the crap going on in the world it became just one more exhausting chore to figure out what to eat so I farmed it out. That's costly both for our pocketbook and our waistline.
I got a couple new cookbooks for Christmas that gave me some inspiration and I am revisiting recipes I earmarked in others but never got around to trying like the loaded nacho soup.
I read it takes around two weeks to break a habit so if I can get myself to cook every day or at every other day so I have leftovers then I should hopefully kick the bad habits I got into.

I fell off the cooking wagon in mid December. Travel, work was stupid stressful and Christmas. Once I get a week or two down it's much easier and a habit. It's also easier when I get to the grocery store and have options of what to cook and fresh produce needing used up.
I'm also taking a look at meat that needs used up from the basement freezers.
I'm working on 2022 goals. The big one is getting an office made. That may take most of the year.

Drew Barrymore Rebel Homemaker and Nigella Lawson At My Table.
Ottolenghi test kitchen I found at the library. It's middle eastern recipes. The first one knocked it out of the park so I'm going to buy a copy.
I did not like Nigellas sweet potato tacos but that's because I don't care for sweet potatoes outside of one soup recipe. Was hoping this would change my mind.
The flavors were otherwise good so I'm thinking of marrying it to my other taco recipe that uses russets.

For sweet potatoes, try using Syrian Halabi style pepper powder to the final roasting - its not very hot and has a somewhat sweeter taste that makes it very nice with the taste of sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts etc. We have a small store here that carries it and its become one of my main go to recently.

I've just accepted that I'm never going to get the obsession with sweet potatoes. I like them in chowder but that's it.
Also don't really get squash but I do make a fantastic butternut Alfredo. There are a few recipes in that middle eastern book I might give a go.
It's fun to try new recipes even if they don't always work out. That's what I need to remember to motivate myself.
I actually do enjoy cooking. But with the constant sense of impending doom for the last two years my brain didn't have no time for that.
I've started embroidery again too. I'm doing resuseable produce bags. Grocery stores still aren't allowing them but I can use them at the Farmer's Market come summer.
I'd like to do some bigger totes for regular groceries too.

I wish I liked sweet potatoes. And squash. And broccoli. I loathe broccoli. I try to attempt something about 10 times because maybe I just need to train my pallete or maybe it was just that recipe. Nope broccoli tastes like farts. Period. I do like cauliflower but only as cauliflower. I don't appreciate it trying to pose as things like mashed potatoes. Bullshit it's "just the dame" I make a really good cauliflower taco and I want to try using it in place of chicken in cashew chicken.

I am so super spoiled in having a husband who likes to cook. I need to remember to appreciate that more. Not my husband, but I’m super spoiled too. I appreciate it all the time, because I’m reminded all the time that it really works for me…… since I love to eat, but I have a very strong dislike for cooking.

I hate sweet potatoes. I don't mind broccoli, but one time I ate them when I was sick and they tasted awful. I figure it's probably similar to the cilantro thing, which I also hate.
Anyway, DH got his raise--3.28%, which puts him at $57k. It's really not bad for the area, it's just the responsibility of it, especially while he's supposed to have PTO which is bullshit. Someone at his level should be able to take a fucking week off of work without working.

Okay I have my first appointment with the career coach set up. We're going to try Monday at noon. I can take my lunch and since I am now in a separate office I can close the door. My office mate is Tuesday through Saturday so I'm not locking him out.
She does Sunday work so if Monday doesn't pan out for the other three I'll consider that.
I am excited I hope this gives me direction. I don't expect it to be the magical solution to my career problems but I am hoping it will be better than my current method of throwing shit at the wall hoping it will stick.

I read it takes around two weeks to break a habit so if I can get myself to cook every day or at every other day so I have leftovers then I should hopefully kick the bad habits I got into. I like to cook once, eat twice. When we were raising our family, I made at least a double batch of most meals. Feeding teenagers means you never throw out leftovers. Casserole or soup recipes got doubled up and one went to the freezer. As the kids got older and busier, we weren't always home at meal time. Having something to heat up or something to make a sandwich out of really takes the pressure off and keeps your family out of the fast food driveup. We quit buying sandwich meat at the store years ago. Now we roast a chicken, turkey, pork loin or beef roast. Slice some up thin and vacuum seal it for the freezer. These packages thaw out quickly and are way better for you than the processed, salted concoction that sells as "luncheon meat". Don't be afraid to get your children involved. Teaching your kids to meal plan and cook is time well spent. As our sons got older and started driving, they were sent to the grocery store. No reason a teenager can't plan and shop for a week's worth of groceries. I have a sister in law who rarely cooks for her family. I estimate over the last 40 years she has spent an entire retirement on eating out. I think teaching your kids the financial truth about spending your food budget in restaurants vs. cooking at home is very important. DH and I used to leave the teenagers at home when we traveled for work. I would fill the frig with groceries and also leave cash for emergencies. I told the teenagers if they ate the food at home while I was gone, they could have the cash when I returned. Didn't take long to figure out they would rather have cash in their pocket than a drive up bag in the trash.

Both kids cook with me. Gwen has cooked dinner by herself a couple of times.
Abby is literally too little to be doing it on her own but she helps.
Gwen inherited my mom's baking skills. I can't bake worth a crap. Meanwhile this is is making no churn salted caramel ice cream.

Didn't take long to figure out they would rather have cash in their pocket than a drive up bag in the trash. When I do cook, I prefer to not have to cook again the very next day, leftovers work for me. I don’t know why my Mom or Grandmother didn’t teach me how to cook when I was growing up. They never “made” me help in the kitchen, not even when they were in the kitchen for hours and hours cooking big holiday meals. Even though I don’t like cooking, I still wish I had their skills. When I use to cook chili for my children, DD made grilled cheese. I’d never liked it before, but all of a sudden I did, so that became her job whenever I cooked chili. She made good coleslaw, so that became hers too. She was the first person in my household to cook greens and they were deeeelicious. I’ve still never cooked greens myself. When I cooked salmon croquettes not too long ago, I called DD so she could tell me how. One time, when my children were teens, they were helping me cook dinner. DS was in charge of the macaroni and cheese, I was telling him what to do, while I was doing something else. When it was time to put the Mac and cheese in a dish to go in the oven, it was very soupy and I was very confused about why. Well, I didn’t specifically tell DS to drain the macaroni after cooking it, so he didn’t, he just added all the other stuff to it. We didn’t have Mac and cheese that night.

My mom would have taught me but I never expressed interest plus the few times I tried I almost burnt the house down.😳
But I could manage to feed myself I could do boxed Mac and cheese and grilled cheese.
I really learned to cook when I moved in with DH. All he had was ketchup, hot pockets and canned corn. It was either cook or starve.
Gwen can already do grilled cheese, spaghetti sauce and some other recipes. She'll make it through college at least.

I had NO interest in cooking and my mom made me cook one meal ( roast beef potatoes and carrots) befor I got married. First dinner I made for just me and Jerseyguy after wedding was spaghetti. The box looked as little so I cooked 2 boxes of spaghetti- a lot!!! Then I made a Polish canned ham 5 lbs. Took a while but finally got idea about portions I wasn’t a great cook when kids were little. Even made Chinese dinner from a can with the water chestnuts in separate little can on top. I’ve apologized to them! All 3 have had at one time roomed with a chef and all are better cooks than me. I compliment them all the time
So should I have a 2022 goal of being a good cook?? NO
