Knee Deep in Water Chloe I like the way you aren't afraid of dark colors to play against the woods and lighter tones. And I absolutely love the larger tiles on your backsplash areas - I'm SO tired of little bitty glass tiles or subway tiles in those areas.

Knee Deep in Water Chloe, I love it. That's all. Love the colors and shopes you have integrated into the kichen and bar, and the photos over your top cabinets.

Who has decorated for fall/autumn/halloween? Post pictures! I'll be back later today or tomorrow to post mine. I need to get ready for work!

Mine isn't officially decorated for Halloween, but my husband is on the last two rooms of the window project (dining room and library), so that section of the house is all boarded up and looks like Halloween. For now we haven't been using these rooms and have just been eating in the breakfast nook in the kitchen. And a bonus pic of what the room used to look like, with the Halloween black cat...

Here are all of the missing windows. My husband has already popped out the glass and cleaned it, stripped the sashes, and used putty to repair them. Next he is going to prime them and put the glass back in, leave them to sit for a month to cure, repaint, and then put them back in the windows.

Our living room is our catchall room right now, and is full of items that we removed from the dining room and library before the windows were taken out. We also just got two new sofas, but I can't arrange them until the windows are done in the last two rooms and all the furniture is back in place. The sofas were a gift from his boss's mom, who just moved into an assisted living apartment and doesn't have room for all of her stuff. This one goes pretty well with our recliners in the library, so I plan to match it up with them. And this one I think will work with the stiped sofa that we already had. I have more of the striped material that was used to reupholster the sofa, so I am thinking of making striped pillows and arm covers for the solid red one, to try to bring them together. But for now everything is in disarray. I don't expect the rooms to all be back to normal until mid December, so it's still a long stretch with most of the downstairs unusable.

So many windows!!! That takes so much patience. The house has fifty windows, and he is finally on the last six. It has been an almost two year project. The attic and the upstairs weren't nearly as disruptive as the bottom floor has been; we just moved between bedrooms and kept the door shut for whatever room he was working on.

That is just too cute for words! I absolutely love the little wreath and pile of pumpkins near the door.

It's a bit late, but I painted a cat on one of my boarded up windows just in time for trick or treat.

Just got the first estimate for the garage extension, 120-130K. That is upwards of $450 a sq ft for something with no plumbing. Not doing that, because of the price and we are thinking of moving in the next 2 years. We are trying again with getting an quote on the garage extension. Should have a new number on Tuesday, crossing my fingers that it is better than the 120-130K we were quoted in July 2022.

Thats just too much. I know contractors are busy , but we had a similar issue, but finally found a guy for much less. Good luck.

I think the price of lumber has come way down from back then, but that price was so crazy high that I doubt lumber would explain it. Are you still considering moving soon?

Hopefully with the cost of lumber coming down and a reduction in the scope of work the quote will be significantly less. The guy who came out seemed much more knowledgeable and understood what we were trying to get. He thought it was a 2 week job and reduced the extension length to avoid a complicated roof, existing retaining wall, and moving the existing irrigation. We are always considering moving, but just came back from a cross country trip without any prospects on where we would like to go. Locally we can't find a house we like as much as the one we have. And it would cost us at least 60K to move, plus the huge inconvenience of it. I am really trying to talk myself into this.

New quote came in at 34K. I am sure there are some things missing, but I can't wrap my head around 120K versus 34K.

New quote came in at 34K. I am sure there are some things missing, but I can't wrap my head around 120K versus 34K. Am I understanding correctly that you are making an existing garage larger, and not building a whole new garage? I asked Mister last week if he thought he might like to build another garage on our property one day. He said yes. If we do, it makes sense to put it at the end of our driveway, and part of that area has been where I’ve been thinking about creatinine another sitting area. If he thinks he might want another garage one day, it doesn’t make sense for me to doing anything in that space now, so I’m glad I asked. We really could use another garage, the garage attached to the house is so small, that it’s tight with just our Honda’s in it. We have 3 more vehicles living in the driveway. The riding mower lives unsecured in the back yard. My bicycles live in our living room. We’ve always said we need a shed, because the garage is so small, but I think another garage would be a better option, even though it would cost more. I don’t know what materials we would use though. Our house is all brick, and it’s old, and an odd (to me) color. I’ve paid attention since we moved here, and I haven’t seen another house with bricks this color yet. And because it’s old, I fear we might not be able to match the bricks. Or even if we could, it would be very expensive. It will be at least a few years before we did that anyway, so I have time to think about it and figure it out lol. I hope you keep us updating as you settle on your plans and have the work done. I am always very curious about stuff like that.

I am always very curious about stuff like that. I wish I had land, that I could build a second garage. Unfortunately my house covers my lot setback to setback, so there isn't a way for a car to get to the backyard. We had a second 3 car garage at our last house and really loved it. We always feel like we need more garage space. The quote is to add a 12' x 12' addition onto the back of my third garage bay, replace the roof on the third bay, add a support for the new roof and addition, and replace the 8' garage door with a 10' door (and opener), plus any front changes to make it look original. Then insulate, sheetrock, and paint to match the house. This is to get a cargo van into the garage, plus storage for motorcycles or other toys. We called to move forward and should have our next meeting next week.

The window project is finally done after more than two years. All the windows are back in, my two downstairs rooms are back in service. We were able to have company over and socialize downstairs, which is such a relief. I feel like a grown up again now that my house is back to being a normal house, like a little bit of tension that I had is suddenly gone. Here is the front and side of the house, along with a close up of one of the multi light windows. Here are the two downstairs rooms. Neither one of them is "done" as far as furniture or decorating, but they are good enough to have friends and family hang out and socialize with us downstairs again. Next week I am going to get together with my mother in law and work on some arm covers and pillows to go on the two couches. We have more of the striped material to make accents on the solid red couch, and then we are going to make solid red pillows to go on the striped couch. We are still shopping for Victorian parlor chairs to finish the sitting area. I also need to contact a carpet company to get the carpet stretched, since we have a wrinkle in it. We have a damp corner in the room though, so that will have to wait until my husband tears it open to see where the water is coming from. For this room, we found a very nice bookshelf at an antique store, but it is too big to fit on any other wall than the one with the built in book shelves on the right. We are debating whether to buy it and rip out the current built ins, although then he will have to add new built ins to another wall that are the same style.

They follow me around from room to room and wander into the pictures, so I decided to go with it and have a bonus cat in most of my pictures. We are really torn about whether we should buy the Victorian bookcase. We were planning to have DH design new built ins, but it is a beautiful piece. The down side is that the dealer wants a lot of money for it because it is signed by the maker, which is something that we don't really care about. But it would cut down on the amount of work that DH has to do on the room, and let him work on other things instead. We also found a nice coat tree for sale by the same dealer, so we may call him and see if we can get a discount for buying multiple pieces.

I had to Google Victorian bookcases to see what they look like. Are you saying that even you are planning to replace the built ins you already have, whether you buy the Victorian bookcase or not?
