I started following a lady who posts about decorating and remodeling homes. She use to be active in the business, but no longer takes clients. Anyway, she refers to certain light fixtures as “boobs” and she is clearly not a fan. After seeing what she was calling “boob” lights, I can not unsee that image, because they really do look like a boob and nipple to me after she described them as such. I have a couple of those in my house lol. When I see those light fixtures now, I cannot NOT think of boobs lol. One is in the entryway of my house, and I like the fixture even though it does remind me of a boob now. I don’t see me changing it anytime soon. DD has described it as something she’d expect to see in a bank or something. Idk what about it gives her that impression, but I’d rather it look like something you’d see in a bank over something that should be in a dumpster lol 2 of the others are attached to ceiling fans. I don’t care much about changing them. But one is in my living room, and if I ever get my living room together, I’d like some kind of crystal chandelier in there. Since we have a den, I’d like for the living room to be “fancy”, so why not have a chandelier? LOL! Now I can't escape the knowledge that most of our fans have pasties and tassles.

Just got the first estimate for the garage extension, 120-130K. That is upwards of $450 a sq ft for something with no plumbing. Not doing that, because of the price and we are thinking of moving in the next 2 years.

I completely understand how once you see it, you can’t UNSEE it. The blogger who made me see it is Laurel Bern, I think that’s her name. She has a lot of useful info and advice about decorating, and a nice sense of humor…… imo anyway. So let’s just blame it all on her, instead of me, that we now see boobs and nipples and pasties and tassels on our light fixtures, mmmkay?

My ceiling lights in the living room and 3 bedrooms are ceiling fans with boob extensions. No, I can not unsee it and I never had thought about it before.

I was hoping you would have good news.

I think maybe it’s so funny about the boobs and nipples, just because they really do look like that once we get the picture in our head.

Here is one of my boob and nipples. It is in the entryway, on the light fixture DD said it looks like it belongs in a fancy bank. Idk what makes her think that, but I’m not in a hurry to replace the fixture, so whatever.

You had to post that, Pink. The light in my entry way looks like that.

We are waiting on one last part to come in. Kohler seems to be at a loss as to where it is. Everyone agrees it was ordered but Kohler has no record of shipping it.
Just ship it!
I started this in February and said I bet this didn't happen until fall. I may be right.

That's a hoot. We just replaced all of our indoor lights and ceiling fans. The fans still have boobs, but they don't have tassles. The ceiling laps are actually not boobs!
We have also hung up most of our wall art. I'm struggling with where to put a set of photography and a large mirror with an ornate frame.
We bought a coffee table--my first as an adult. We also bought a bistro table because we have a weird spot in our living room that needed filling. For the last 12 years, we'd had a great rooms with the kitchen viewing the family room tv. This house doesn't have that. The bistro table should let us eat in the living room if we want to watch tv while having food.

We submitted our order for interior storm windows today. It's going to be $23,000 for 36 windows. They should be available in up to 18 weeks, so hopefully before winter really kicks in. We paid 1/3 today and I think it will be another 1/3 when they ship and 1/3 when they arrive.
I'm disappointed at how long it will take for the windows to arrive, but it does allow me some time to cash flow the costs so I can avoid selling investments.

The great news is this is our last immediate planned expense for the house. So far we have sunk about 130k into fixing up the house since we bought it last year, and it's getting more and more painful for me to spend the money, even though we have it and its all been planned.
Once the windows are in, our two remaining issues will be the complete lack of insulation in the house, and the 50 year old furnace. On the insulation front, it is usually a bad idea to insulate the walls of an old wood house. So we are going to see how we do this winter with the storm windows in, and then if its still pretty bad we may insulate between the floor joists between each level of the house. For the furnace, its still working great, but its extremely inefficient, so we are undecided on if we will keep using it or replace it with something more efficient.

About had a heart attack this afternoon. The supplier who is dealing with the one last part sent an email that the part wouldn't be available until September of 2023. I replied that was totally unacceptable and we had to find a different part or start over. I'm sure that thrilled her.
She responded that was a typo, that the delay is until September of 2022. I told her I can live with that but if there is another delay, a different part has to be found or we start over.

I like the artwork. The one with the three flowers makes me feel peaceful just looking at it in the photo.

Holy moly! What kind of garage extension? We have a 3 car attached front load now. We wanted to take the single bay and extend it out the back 22 ft to make it a tandem 2 bay. It was really simple actually. Why is it so expensive then, if it’s simple? I’m just curious. We’ve bought 2 more vehicles since we moved here, so now we have 5 vehicles. I’ve toyed with the idea of building another garage. If it cost 6 figures to build another garage though, our vehicles just have to get in where they fit in, damn the effects of the sun and any other reasons we would like for them to be in a garage. We’ll just have to keep choosing the 2 that are most important to us, that also fit in our tiny garage, to keep in there. Unless I win the lottery and can buy my dream car. Then, I can easily afford whatever to keep it in whatever kind of garage I need to, and in pristine condition.

I generally think it is a pain to get labor to my side of town and no one wants to deal with it.

I know the only reason I have a contractor for my tub to shower reno is because the owner's mother fell in her tub, broke both hips and ended up in a nursing home. He said he always takes these jobs because of that.
Now if the last part would come in.
He and the tiler are both nice guys to talk to on top of it.
I know he would prefer a much bigger job but I'm happy he takes this job on.

Opinions, please! This is the current design of a custom cabinet. I’m not sure I love it. I was trying to have a counter space in it. Doing so gives us a buffet area in addition to a breakfast bar. The upper cabinets are that size so people don’t hit their faces on them when at that counter. But I’m not sure I like the size of the cabinets. It’s almost like they’re dinky. Should I give up the counter and have full length cabinets? (Wine fridge on the bottom left and wine rack on the bottom right.)

I would keep the countertop. What color will the cabinets be? I think you will be fine with those cabinets. Once you have a few items on the counter it will start to fill in the space. You could always add something more decorative like a backsplash, glass doors or even a nice wallpaper.
We have something sorta similar in our dining room as far as the bottom portion. I've got a beverage fridge and a small upright freezer side-by-side with shelves to the side and a wine rack/shelf above. We use it a lot!
Don't forget plenty of electrical outlets. One on each side at the bottom and a least a couple for the countertop. You may not need as many as me, but I've got my coffee maker, my bread machine, phone and tablet chargers, and my Aerogarden all plugged in over there. Plus the fridge and the freezer.

The cabinets will be a dark blue. The backsplash will be hexagons with white, beige, and a little bit of light blue. The other side of the kitchen will have the same tile but with majority light blue, beige, and a little bit of white. The cabinet doors planned to be glass.
Now that you bring all of that up, the drawing doesn't seem so plain. Maybe that was my hesitancy--it was "just" the outline and not the finished product?
