We've already stimulated the crap out of the economy, so we're going to save it until we're able to go on a good vacation safely.

I want to replace my hated refrigerator, but thinking that will run $20k. Because I will need to take out low cabinet above refrigerator, and it is connected to the desk I hate. So if I replace that will need to replace some other cabinets. Then, of course, countertops. And flooring. So that is my $20k fridge.
Since that is more than combined check, maybe will look at slightly smaller fridge. Or just pay bills.

Posted this in the other thread by accident, but my stimulus payment is showing as pending in my bank account already!

A person who doesn't have school-aged children came to my building today. They gave the school a $1000 check because they didn't need the stimulus money and wanted it to go to our students to support vocational education.

Trying to convince my brother who says I just need to buy a new car to give me some of his since he has 2 kids (and one on the way so he'll eventually get the $$ for that one too) because he had no financial impact. I'm putting some money in my roth. And I'm probably going to finally buy a ring I want - but frankly it's credit card rewards paying for that lol.

I already do enough disposable spending that I don’t feel bad at all about sticking my stimulus in a savings account.

I'm getting a quote for some landscaping. Neither one of us can do the heavy stuff anymore and i want something that is easy to take care of. Also some nice rock walls as our house is on a hill and we have little areas where plateaus would make life easier. Just, make it look nice but not waste a lot of time in taking care of it.

I gave my (rounded up) first partial stimulus check to my cleaning lady. i calculated what the second would be proportionally so I would donate that amount to the foodbank but it turned out with the reduction factor applied I received zero. Donated the calculated amount anyway. For the third one I will definitely not qualify but I am debating ignring that fact and sending money to the foodbank anyway. The only thing that makes me weary of doing that is that I don't want to get endless "gimme" letters as a result. So I am still thinking that over.Kudos to you for "donating" the money but I get it with the non stop gimme letters. I finally wrote a nice letter to one charity to stop with all the letters. It worked.

Both send nice thank you letters and neither send further begging letters.

Roof work. ************ wind keeps blowing shingles off. Neighbor patched one section last fall but the location of the newest patch job requires staging and he doesn't do that.

Donation letters are a waste We regularly donate $1000 to certain charities. Annoying to get letters that if you donate $11 month we’ll send a blanket etc etc. Then there are the stickers, greeting cards etc

We have selected our charities and donate to them as we wish. We ignore all those letters asking us to support their charity. We also don't do anything over the phone. If only there was a way to permanently remove yourself from those cards/letters/calls.

I was trying to imagine what a home refrigerator would look like.

Ours will probably go to the copay on my covid 19 hospitalization. Copay after medicare and supplement.
We haven't been going out to eat. H. hadn't been playing golf until recently. I played a few time last year. A lot of no spending.

My favorite charities (to me) only send out letters around Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and one other. I'm ok with that since they also send a return stamped envelope. It also acts as a reminder to this old brain to donate. But start sending me one every time I open my mail box and they get eliminated from my list of charities.

I once sent $200 to St. Jude's Hospital in thanksgiving for the wonderful treatment a friend's little girl had received there. That was at least 5 years ago and they haven't stopped with the e-mails and the snail mail. Even worse are the ones that sell their mailing lists so you get MORE begging letters.

I am not capable of just "wasting" money or spending frivolously, but I did make the determination early on that I would spend the checks rather than save them. The rule was going to be that I spend on things I don't really need and probably would not buy otherwise. They would be "nice to have" things rather than "need" things. When the first check was announced, I decided one thing should be a bike to ride when down in Florida for the winter. I didn't get the check last year, and didn't go down to Florida this winter, so that one is still on hold. I did recently start to do some spending in anticipation of my $1800 tax refund for the first two checks. So far I am up to $667 for a new backup desktop computer, a comforter set for my redone bedroom, and an adjusting, self-leveling ladder for the house and yard. I can't count things I would have done anyway, like painting and carpeting my main floor, or the new flooring in the kitchens I plan to do. I do have a couple of other ideas currently, like a new electric blanket, maybe $100 to re-engage with an old hobby or $50 for a DVD box set or two, but am having trouble coming up with more. I could justify a new larger TV for the living room when I finish painting and carpeting that room, or maybe set some aside for new furniture there, but I barely use it now anyway. Maybe I will more when it is redone. GF is talking about doing a lot more travel through 2022, so maybe an extra trip there, but I still think I would have done that anyway so it shouldn't really count. This is hard for a natural saver to do.

You are lucky. We have a list of those we donate to each year of about 12 places. We made one large donations each year and many request additional donations. Finally, we started sending letters out that ONE check gets written each year, and not to contact us, we will contact you. If you do contact us, the last check you received is the last one you’ll get from us. This seems to work, but we had to be hardasses about it.

I had one place send me a letter. i sent them an email indicating sending me more solicitations would be a waste of money on their part as I would not send any more funds. It was a church I attended once when I was on vacation. I nerve received any more solicitations from this particular church.

I have an email that I don't use just for places begging for money.
I'm going to open stock accounts for both of my grands & put some funds in there for them to play with. If DGD doesn't want to mess with it, I'll make a couple of buys for her & just let them sit.

And I would never give them n email address. Can’t see the need for that anyway! I do most of my donations on-line so it's hard to avoid. For larger donations ($500-$1,000) I use my Donor-Advised Fund and make it anonymous. That way I still have a legitimate record for the tax deduction (at the time I put it in the DAF, not when donations are sent out) but they don't know who I am. Must drive them crazy.

That makes sense then. I have avoided the online donations so my mind didn't go there ie, email. The two I donate to send me a "thank you" for the donation and the amount is included in letter. I just keep them for YE work but it isn't a boat load - just two charities. Sometimes just one big check to each so not a lot of "paper transactions" to keep up with!

We invested the previous 2 checks and we’ll likely invest part of this one. It’s going to coincide with both of our annual bonuses being paid and we’re receiving a large tax refund. I also received a smaller special bonus on top of normal because of company performance so we’re spending that right now. I got an air fryer, wife wants Apple AirPods, girls want scooters and son will probably want something gaming related. We also have some summer camp programs to pay for, weekend trips over Memorial Day and July 4th, and we’d like to take a week-long vacation too.

We bought a patio set (love seat, 2 chairs and a table), DH is buying the new flooring we will put in kitchen and family room, and we are planning a short trip in April. So yes, all spent plus some!
