The Borowitz Report Most Innocent People Try to Delay Trials, Experts Say
NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—Prominent legal experts believe that defendants who are innocent of a crime will usually do everything humanly possible to delay their trials. Professor Davis Logsdon, who teaches a course about the behavior of innocent defendants at the University of Minnesota Law School, said that “if a defendant is strenuously trying to have his trial delayed, there is no clearer evidence that he is innocent of all charges against him.” “Generally speaking, people who have done nothing wrong want to push the day when their name is cleared as far into the future as they can,” he said. “They will spend a massive amount on legal fees to have a cloud of suspicion hover over them for as long as possible.” He said that there are “other signs” that a person is “completely innocent,” including “claiming immunity from all charges, defaming the judge and his or her children, and calling the trial a ‘disgrace’ or a ‘witch-hunt.’” “If someone does all of those things, it’s so obvious he’s innocent that the case should be dismissed immediately,” he said. “The fact that such a trial is allowed to proceed is worrisome proof that our legal system is broken.” Most Innocent People Try to Delay Trials, Experts Say

Was that said on "Opposite Day"? I mean, even if that weren't a satire site, who would believe that? Oh, wait.......

Saw this reply to an article titled 'Trump demands 'no more funding' after NPR scandal: 'Not one dollar!'' Very well said. Edmund Burke: As Trump rails against the media, his indictments, Mike Pence, the Jan. 6th committee, the Rule of Law, and so many others. I realized that it’s not these individuals and organizations he is whining about, it’s what they all have in common. That commonality is that they all have the power to hold Mr. Trump accountable. It’s accountability that has him screaming into his bath towel in the morning and crying in front of his mirror at night. He’s never had that in his life before and it scares him to death. He’s always been able to hide his moral indiscretions in the past by covering his sexual immorality with hush money. He’s tried to avoid having to confess and repent by having people sign Non-Disclosure Agreements. Mr. Trump’s boogie man is accountability. Accountability is Mr. Trump’s Kryptonite.Donald Trump’s worst nightmare became real when he won the election and stepped into the most accountable political position in the world. As darkness cannot exist in the light, Mr. Trump cannot exist in the presence of the truth, and accountability is coming.Trump demands 'no more funding' after NPR scandal: 'Not one dollar!'NPR is some of the best information available to the public. but candidly, i don't care for the federal funding. what NPR gets for the 10% CPB funding is a leash. it is a leash that keeps them closely tied to the government, and does, indeed, bias their coverage- IN FAVOR OF GOVERNMENT. there are only two approaches that i like: 1) an NSA approach to funding that does not give the government any role whatsoever in NPR OR 2) drop the CPB as a funding source. i would actually prefer that NPR was 100% funded by the government with an NSA approach. but if the 10% puts them on a leash, it is simply not worth it.

New York Times article. Trump On Trial Finally, a Case Goes to TrialJury selection begins Monday in Donald Trump’s hush-money trial. Welcome back to Trump on Trial. I’ll be filling in for Maggie Haberman and Alan Feuer today. Starting on Monday, I’ll be part of the Times team of reporters covering the first criminal trial of a former American president. It will unfold in a dingy courthouse just blocks from New York’s City Hall, and we’ll be there for every twist and turn. It should be a doozy, complete with hush money, a porn star and a fuming defendant. And oh, yes, it could test the resilience of our legal institutions and the concept that no individual is above the law. Donald Trump’s trial is the culmination of a case that has been hotly contested since it was unveiled last spring. After months of legal machinations, including three long-shot appeal attempts this week, it seems to be on track to actually begin: Jury selection is scheduled to start on Monday. Testimony is expected to last weeks, amid a level of media scrutiny that some have likened to the O.J. Simpson trial nearly three decades ago. This is no murder trial, but it still has sensational elements: Trump faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to try to hide a sexual encounter he is alleged to have had with Stormy Daniels, a porn star he met in 2006. The former president denies the charges and having had sex with her. Prosecutors could call Daniels and a former Playboy model, Karen McDougal, who said she had an affair with Trump, as well as Michael Cohen, Trump’s former fixer, who made the payment to Daniels just before the 2016 election. These witnesses and testimony are likely to produce days of popcorn-worthy coverage — though, as with many trials dealing with financial matters, there may be a few sleepy sessions, too. What to expect
Here’s how the trial is likely to unfold: Rest of article here: Finally, a Case Goes to TrialI agree with this guy, this trial will be a doozy.the question is, will the MAGA minions watch it? If they watch it, will they believe it? I’m especially interested to see how the evangelicals feel about their dear leader cheating. Polls have shown that if Trump was convicted of a criminal offense a good percentage of MAGA voters wouldn’t vote for him. I don’t think that’s true. I don’t think there is anything Trump could do that would drive off his core voters. They are just too invested. your last two points are contradictory. a good percentage of Trump support (about 30%) are NOT "core voters", happy. i think you are being a wee bit cynical, here. there are MANY Republicans that have held their noses and voted for him the last two cycles. i am sure we both know a couple. Convicted Felon Trump is just not someone they will vote for. will they vote for Biden? some WILL. many won't. they will simply stay home. but the math is quite clear on this. Trump needs to WIN voters, and he will likely lose them.

He can’t win with only his core voters. He needs some independent voters. Those are the ones a criminal conviction could influence. Given the small differences in votes in the battleground states, it do ant require a large number of voters to finally decide enough is enough PMD has it exactly right. the polling has shown that 20-30% will defect from Trump if he is a convicted felon. the math on this is pretty bad for him. let's say that 90% of those people end up voting for him, but that the other 10% vote for Biden. that is a loss of 2M voters for Trump and a gain of 2M for Biden. can you imagine the electoral impact of that in an election where less than half a million decided the last election? again, i think you are being too cynical. no, what worries me is that he will end up WINNING his case. that might actually conceivably BOOST support for him. if you want to be cynical, be cynical about THAT.

My MAGA friends have told me that a man can be a great president even if he isn't a very good person. can be? sure. and a morbidly obese person CAN live to be 100. does that mean you should become morbidly obese? i don't think MAGA does well with logic and statistics.

My MAGA friends have told me that a man can be a great president even if he isn't a very good person. Can being the operative word here. Trump wasn't a great President even if a bunch of people want to believe so. those that insist that he was will have to present qualifications. because MANY presidential historians believe he was the worst president in US history, and NONE believe that he was the best. even among conservative historians, he is rated toward the bottom. so, yeah. you can believe whatever you like. eclipses cause cancer, or allow the devil into your soul, or whatever. but the facts are pretty clear on this. Trump is among the worst presidents ever, if not THE worst. he is uniquely unqualified and unable to preside over any public enterprise.

On eve of hush money trial, big, bold Donald Trump shows he's nothing but a giant chickenFor a guy who fancies himself a tough alpha male – brimming with “I’m right and you’re wrong!” bluster like the cock of the walk – Donald Trump is, in reality, a giant chicken. Trump's first criminal trial is set to start Monday in New York City. If you struggle to keep track of the man’s multitudinous indictments, this is the one involving Stormy Daniels, the adult-film star he’s accused of paying off in advance of the 2016 presidential election to keep quiet about their alleged affair. He has referred to Daniels as “Horseface” and written on social media, “She knows nothing about me, a total con!” Last year, he referred to the case as “the Stormy ‘horseface’ Daniels extortion plot.” Trump has claimed – over and over and over again – that the case is part of a vast left-wing conspiracy against him, a “Witch-Hunt to destroy the Make America Great Again movement” and “Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history.” In a statement in March 2023, Trump name-checked Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and boasted: “So our Movement, and our Party – united and strong – will first defeat Alvin Bragg, and then we will defeat Joe Biden.” You’d think an abundantly confident macho man like Trump would be chomping at the bit to get into a courtroom with his lawyers and prove the “Thugs and Radical Left Monsters” wrong, to pull back the curtain on this unjust persecution/prosecution, to shove the evidence of his angelic innocence right in their smug faces. Rest of article here: On eve of hush money trial, big, bold Donald Trump shows he's nothing but a giant chicken and if he loses to Alvin Bragg? what will that posit about his election chances? this is not the case i wanted to have go first. but it will likely suffice. he is facing 34 charges. at least one, maybe all, will likely stick. each charge carries a maximum of 4 years, but NY has a maximum sentence of 20 years for class three felonies, so he is likely looking at 4-20 years if even a couple of these stick. they will probably be quite lenient with him, as this is his first felony conviction. perhaps confinement to MAL and a loss of his social media privileges. something like that. i am not making any predictions on the FINAL OUTCOME of this one. and it will NO DOUBT get appealed if he is convicted.

Because everyone knows all the terrible things Trump is capable of and yet somehow he’s come out ahead in the primaries and God forbid, might win the presidency again. How could this have happened, except that this country is overloaded with willful idiots? The Republicans have their heads up their asses and can’t stop bickering with each other long enough to railroad Trump out of the party, no matter how deranged he is.

I have a little faith that trump won't get elected. But I believe he will never be found guilty of anything involving a jury. There will always be one trumper on the jury.

The Borowitz Report
Trump Rejects Several Female Jurors as Not His TypeAPR 15, 2024 NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—Judge Juan M. Merchan reprimanded Donald J. Trump on the first day of his hush money trial after he rejected a number of prospective female jurors as “not my type.” The judge declared Trump out of order when he commented that one of the women was “a 5 or a 6 at best.” “This is what happens when Joe Biden controls the justice system,” Trump said. “He doesn’t know how to pick women. I ran beauty pageants.” Looking at the panel of jurors, he added, “This should never be allowed to happen in this country.” Trump’s legal woes worsened further when his entire team of attorneys suddenly pleaded insanity. The lawyers said they were claiming to be insane “on the grounds of expecting to ever be paid.” In a nightmare scenario for Trump, Rudy Giuliani has volunteered to defend him. The judge's daughter for the 57 billionth time. right. my dad was a Limbaugh Republican. he was an immovable object. when i eventually gave him some pushback, we became estranged. so, how is it that the child of a judge would make it impossible for him or her to act prudentially? did Trump grope his daughter?
