Interesting. If trump is convicted of just one of the 34 felony charges in his current court case, he will lose his right to vote for himself as president. As Florida is his legal residence, Floridians convicted of a felony, no matter in what state the conviction occurred, cannot vote until their voting rights are restored. And they cannot be restored in Florida if they have any outstanding charges against them which have not been settled. UNITED STATES PROBATION. Middle District of Florida

New Drinking Game! Take a shot every time he says “Witch Hunt”!
. This sounds like a gorilla marketing technique started by liquor companies.

I read the article and the last paragraph but it didn't change my mind and I found this paragraph the most telling. "It's wishful thinking to expect Trump to "get a trial most people will accept as fair," said Henry Olsen in The Telegraph. Manhattan is "one of the most Democratic and liberal counties in the country," so the jury pool was polluted. Bragg has made "repeated statements" making it clear he was out to get Trump any way he could. And Merchan refused to recuse himself even though he "donated to Biden's 2020 campaign and his daughter is a Democratic political consultant." No wonder "Trump supporters view this prosecution as grounded in politics, not law."
This trial should have been moved to another venue. Another Judge.
Wouldn’t matter what venue or what judge. Trump would still spend his early morning hours bitching about it, regardless. It’s not the venue and not the judge, it’s the fact that he’s being held accountable for his actions like any other dumb fuck that’s making him furious. He’s The Donald. People call him ‘sir.’ No one ever charged him criminally before, and it shouldn’t be happening now. he prefers The Boss, you peon. (just kidding, of course)

i hate to do this, because it seems like i am siding with MAGA here, but i feel compelled to respond. MAGA has been behaving in a certain way for nearly a decade now. they treat outsiders with extreme disrespect that comes off as hostile. and this has just become the NORM for them. so, when Trump does it, they (and i need to qualify "they", which i will do, below) don't see it as weird, threatening, unusual, or possibly illegal. it is as normal as breathing to them. when i say "they", however, i mean the people that are just in it for the fun, the humor, or the "fuck-you-ee-ness" of being MAGA. they would never march on the capital, or beat up a liberal, or do anything stupid to ruin their quiet little MAGA lives. unfortunately, there is a subset of MAGA which is not "they". that subset is absolutely down with all of the above behaviour. they are the folks that stormed the capital. they are the guy who bashed in Peolsi's head. they are the guys and gals planning thwarted attacks. and, unfortunately, "they" don't seem to understand that they exist, or even identify with them. "they" think that they are ANTIFA or something. so when Trump says things like he does, "they" don't understand how it is a threat, because "they" talk that way to their family, friends, coworkers, and other MAGA. it seems fine to them, even though it is not. Even "they" have to see the difference between their mouthing off and those that stormed the Capital by now. They might not have the balls to do it themselves but they wish they did. "They" know what's going on. you think so? their veins seem to be being fed a steady stream of Kool Aid.

The political climate in Manhattan, NY is very liberal. New York County, NY is very liberal. In New York County, NY 86.4% of the people voted Democrat in the last presidential election, 12.2% voted for the Republican Party, and the remaining 1.4% voted Independent.
In the last Presidential election, New York (Manhattan) county remained overwhelmingly Democratic, 86.4% to 12.2%.
New York (Manhattan) county voted Democratic in every Presidential election since 2000.
And you say he will get a fair trial??
You choose to forget certain things like the number of nonvoters generally is greater than the number of voters in most areas of the country. Manhattan is no different. This is from Google on the 2020 election. Manhattan: In Manhattan, there were approximately 260,000 votes cast for president. This accounted for about 21% of eligible voters in the borough
Second, jury selection is not representative of the general public in most trials. So yes it is possible for him to get a fair trial in NYC. just because MAGA would not give him a fair trial does not mean the rest of us would. as i said before, i am pro-drug use. i sat in a jury over a drug offender. but my job was to execute the law. if i feel the law should not be executed FOR MYSELF, then that is one matter. for someone else? that is what i was there for.

So you agree that an all white jury is incapable of fairly deciding a case against a black defendant? Careful, you are starting to sound like a “liberal” Crimes are tried in the jurisdiction they are committed. That has always been the case. Sucks for Trump I guess. Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time i think we are all dancing around the issue here. fair doesn't mean that we have to like Trump. fair means that the law is applied evenly. i have ZERO doubt that Trump can get a fair trial. ZERO. in fact, if anything, i think him prancing around in public denigrating the judicial system is BEYOND fair. it shows undue favor to Trump.

This isn't a "vote" on his politics, it's a "vote" on his criminality. Did he commit a crime, or not? Hopefully the chosen jurors were selected precisely for their ability to decide based on the evidence, not their partisanship. a failure to seat a fair jury is the fault of the defense, not the venue.

Trump's attorneys got to select from the jurors as well. Remember he only needs ONE to think he's innocent. The prosecution needs to convince all 12. and this is how it SHOULD be. as Franklin put it- it is better than 100 men go free than one innocent man be convicted. Trump has always been given the short odds, and he is given them now. if he fails to get the best of them, that is HIS doing, not justice's.

One can only hope and pray the defense does a great job and sways at least 1 juror. why? why did you put it this way? a hung jury is generally a miscarriage of justice. why not hope that he can sway TWELVE jurors? would that not be a better, more just hope?

Rip probably doesn't understand that a prosecutor can choose to retry the case with another jury. I bet that he would be retried if there is a hung jury. But Trump would whine about how unfair that would be also.

You do? I have come to believe (possibly erroneously) that tbe way he gets his wealth number is by adding up every penny he ever had, every penny he has right now, every penny he thinks he may possibly receive at any time in the future. Then take that total, add a vanity amount to it and and bingo, bango he is rich, RICH, RICH I tell you. But maybe I should not have attended Trump University? It may have distorted my math skills a wee bit

I admit I haven’t had a lot of time to focus much on this current trial, but I was reading a synopsis the other day that said Cohen asked Pecker to pay the play boy model (sorry can’t remember her name) 180,000 bucks for the exclusive right to her story about being in an affair with Trump. Trump was supposed to pay him back. Pecker paid her the money. Then, a while later, Stormy Daniels showed up and Cohen asked Pecker to pay her 130,000 for her exclusive story. Pecker refused, saying he didn’t want to have anything to do with a porn star, and Cohen ended up paying Stormy himself, and then Trump gave Cohen 130,000 disguised as a legal fee payment.
What I haven’t seen is if Trump ever paid Pecker back for that 180,000 he paid out to the playboy model? If not, isn’t that such a typical Trump move, getting someone else to pay for him?
And is that part of the charge of undeclared campaign donations - that 180,000 being used to shut down a scandal that would damage Trump’s campaign?
Sorry I know this is probably out there somewhere but there are just so many articles about this stupid trial, and all the ones I’ve read talk about Pecker paying for the playboy model but never circling back and saying whether or not Trump paid him back, and my curiosity is getting the better of me.

oh, come on now, Trump won the prize of turning the country into a banana republic by paying his whore off to influence an election then trying to cover it up by fraudulent means. Think about it, a candidate for President of the US paying a porn star to stay quiet and covering the payment by fraud. Ever think the country would come to this?

And they got Al Capone for tax evasion. A crime is a crime. Isn’t that what you law and order conservatives are whining about at the border. These people are doing something illegal. NY state prosecutors think that Trump did something illegal. You don’t. The judge thinks there is enough evidence to warrant a trial. If trump is innocent he has nothing to worry about. Isn’t that what conservatives believe? If he is innocent, he has nothing to worry about. Or is the problem he is now facing consequences for how he has done business all these years?

McDougal. as far as i know, he didn't pay him back. which means that the fee would be considered a campaign contribution. which means all kinds of stuff that you can probably ascertain for yourself.

sorry, but the NY court does not march to the orders of Biden. Bragg is not a Biden appointee, doesn't work for the DOJ, etc. he also sat on this case for 2 years before he brought it. was that ALSO Biden's fault? you really need to stop regurgitating Trump talking points. this one, in particular, is utterly absurd. Trump is on trial because of his crimes. no other reason. let me ask you this, rip- if a BIDEN were on trial for the same crimes, and TRUMP was president, would you be making the same case against TRUMP?

for the record, i was PISSED when the case was dropped a couple of years back. the previous DA (Vance) had it GIFTWRAPPED for Bragg. but Bragg, for whatever reason, didn't feel he had enough to bring it. there was some piece of key evidence that came early last year that shifted him. i can't remember what it was. but i was happy to hear that he was looking into it again, and even happier he brought it.
this is probably the weakest case against Trump. if it sticks, the likelihood that all 88 charges will stick is quite high.

That's utter BS. And it has nothing to do with the reason for the trial. Maybe Trump could simply stop committing crimes if he doesn't want to go to court anymore. Trump chose to sleep with a porn star and use campaign money to keep her silent. Biden did not have a hand in that. Neither did anyone in the judicial system. Trump did that. Trump made that choice even knowing there are campaign laws about what you can use campaign money on. Its sad he's not man enough to admit he did the wrong thing and deal with the punishment.

You're confusing Biden with trump. NYT article. The Retribution PresidencyA former White House official has a warning about Donald Trump. John Bolton has a warning about what a second Donald Trump presidency might look like. “Trump really cares only about retribution for himself, and it will consume much of a second term,” Bolton, who served as Trump’s national security adviser, writes in a new edition of his White House memoir, “The Room Where It Happened.” “I am your warrior. I am your justice, and for those who have been wronged and betrayed, I am your retribution,” Trump told supporters last year. He promised to appoint a special prosecutor if he’s re-elected to “go after” President Biden and his family. (Trump’s advisers are concerned his public comments about retribution will alienate swing voters. He tried to play down his interest in payback in January.) A vindictive Trump second term is now a frequent point of discussion. But Bolton already got a close-up look at Trump’s nature — and how his anger can boil over. He spent 17 months in the administration and left in 2019. The new edition of Bolton’s book focuses on several examples, especially the case of Ellen Knight, a National Security Council official who cleared Bolton’s original edition for publication and was then dismissed from the N.S.C. Knight told a federal judge that senior White House lawyers pressured her to falsely claim that Bolton’s book contained classified information. She was reinstated under President Biden. “Knight was subjected to a Star Chamber process to adhere to the party line — that I had been acting in bad faith and had not adhered to the process,” Bolton wrote. Rest of article here: The Retribution Presidency

This is nothing more than a blatant scheme to keep Trump off the campaign trail by any means.
