Heard a story thru the family grapevine - a cousin in probably her late 50s has lost 15 lbs in the last few months (was thin to begin with, not dieting) and had an outrageously high blood sugar level (600?) where she previously had normal blood sugar levels. She got vaxxed for Covid maybe 2.5 months ago, so they are looking at a connection. She had Guillen-Barre (sp?) decades ago. My sister claims there's more of these blood sugar side effects going around, and that they are especially concerned about airline pilots. Hence the sudden shortage in airline staffing causing flight cancellations - don't want pilots having this issue in mid-flight, so trying to schedule a non-vaxxed pilot with a vaxxed one. But "they" are trying to keep it a secret.

I know there was discussion about whether or not the vaccine was safe for people who had Guillen-Barre
The one person I know who has Guillen-Barr decided to get vaccinated and has reported nothing except the usual side effects from the vaccine.
Definitely anecdotal.

Just like there are those who think HCQ is just a big conspiracy to let people die. Do you really think that thousands of MDs that have seen it not work would be quiet if it really did work? My favorite via my sister is that Bill Gates just wants to make more money. I’ve asked her if he wants to make more money, why does he donate so much? My hair hurts trying to wrap my brain around their logic.

American caused their own pilot problems. They brought all of the 737 Maxs back into flight without having a plan beforehand to train the pilots. It takes time to get an experienced pilot certified on a new type of plane. They don't have enough pilots certified on the right types of planes for what they were trying to fly.
Now all the airlines are likely to be hurting for pilots in the next few years because they have a mandatory retirement age of 60.

The reason Bill Gates put those teeny weeny cameras in the vaccines is because he is a sexual deviant as we have all discovered in the last couple of months Now I read something here a few days ago about avoiding infection by limiting interactions to less than 15 minutes at a time. And since that poster had interactions of typically 5 minutes they did not get infected. To me that sounded a lot like the 5 second rule for food pick it up that fast and it is safe to eat, or if you have sex quickly enough you can't get pregnant. But what do I know? Is there really some study that supports this claim? A somewhat curious mind wants to know...

In addition, how close, what sort of activity are you doing, where the interaction took place also affect infectivity. If an infected individual sneezes in your face, it doesn't matter how short the interaction was. Just like everything else to do with medicine, just because you followed every "rule", there is no guarantee something bad will not happen to you.

I've been working the front desk in a hybrid medical facility during the entire pandemic. I do not have to give mouth to mouth to anyone nor did I have to go into rooms with Covid positive people. That limit helped me, but I am not a nurse, nor an EMT so certain risks I was exempt from. But I did have to take temps of EMTs regularly when it all started very often extremely near unmasked Covid positive patients. As things progressed, those patients came in and out a different entrance, but that was not true right away and it was quite scary to me personally.

IDK how much to believe. Another gem: Africa has much less Covid because they are all taking malaria meds. Is this that HCQ ?

Let's hope they don't start that myth again! I take hydroxychloroquine for my lupus. For a while last year I couldn't get the amounts I need. I would go to refill a 90 day supply and they could only give me 14 days. It was pretty scary.

Unless someone does a real study that shows it actually works. Not that I think that will happen. That ship has sailed.

My new *career* as the biscuit lady puts me in contact every day that I work (Thurs-Sun) with people who have not been vaccinated. What? They work in fast food. They haven't been vaccinated? How is that possible? Some of them wear masks. Some don't. I asked a couple of them why they haven't been vaccinated. Um. "I'm afraid of shots." "I don't believe in vaccines." "The side effects will make me too sick to work." "Enough other people have been vaccinated that I'm not worried about it." Apparently, not afraid of dying or being too sick with Covid to work, etc. I asked one if she'd had polio. Nope. Why did she think that was? "My mom took me to get the oral vaccine when I was little." Smallpox? Nope. Good old Mom believed in vaccines. One person said she had never heard of one single person she knew or knew of who got Covid, much less died from it. I told her my brother died of Covid. Her response? She wanted to know how old he was and opined that he died of natural causes because he was getting old. You know...it's a hoax. That darned Bill Gates and his 5G crap. I've figured out that the trackers he's having injected into us are like those mollies that are used in drywall to anchor screws. They're teeny enough to be injected, then expand once they're in the bloodstream. Technology.

A bit OT but I just saw an ad in my FB feed from some ambulance-chasing lawyers. One in 3 seniors has gotten a dangerous Shingles vaccine! Apparently they've discontinued Zostavax, the old one, because they've found that a small group of people, mostly with serious health issues such as being immuno-compromised, had serious side effects. I had that one 7 years ago. I don't remember any side effects at all but maybe I can get some money because I'm WORRIED about side effects, right? And half the comments were from people who seemed to think that it was ShingRx that produced the bad side effects. I'm conservative about getting vaccinations but COVID and shingles are two things I do NOT want to get. I'm just about due for the second ShingRx dose and I will get it.

Zostavax was a live attenuated virus vaccine. There is always a risk of an immunocompromised person getting sick. As always, risk/benefit needs to be considered. But there is an inherent risk of any treatment. People always look at it from the risk of doing something, with there being no risk to not doing something. But that is not the way it works. Just like those who are worried about the side effects of the COVID vaccine. Doing nothing is seen as being safer, and it is as long as you do not get COVID.

Well, I guess it's back to masking up for me, considering how many of my co-workers haven't been vaccinated. If there's anything I don't need besides Covid, it's the Delta variant. Dammit. link

TD went digging and found 2 unopened 90 day supplies of hydrochloroquine from about 5 years ago. He had a lupus like disease for about a year and his rheumatologist put him on it. It worked spectacularly well, he went into a remission and his doc pulled him off and his blood work remained normal. He forgot to stop his automatic 90 day shipment from his mail order pharmacy. Whoops!

I have explained risk/benefit so many times that I feel like a broken record…..mostly to my sister. Yet there seems to be no getting through people’s heads. My most recent attempt was to explain that yes….her risk of dying is not high, but risk of disability is much higher. Has she considered what her life would be like if it disabled her? I was pretty insulated financially from my disability as I had incredible benefits, a healthy retirement account plus TD. She has none of that.

If I do nothing, nothing bad will happen to me. Those medical professionals don't know what they are talking about. Spend my days dealing with people who ignored issues, postponed care, and partake in this thinking. If it wasn't for alcohol, cigarettes, and noncompliance with recommendations, I wouldn't have a job

I still wear my mask inside most places. Since they said the vaccinated could not wear them, no one is making their kids wear them anymore. And these kids I'm seeing without masks are not old enough to be vaccinated.

We are still masking because DD8 cannot be vaccinated yet. What's the latest research on if vaccinated can pass it on to unvaccinated? Last I read was inconclusive. I can't go looking for it or I go down too many rabbit holes which are bad for my mental health.
Our private school already announced masks optional - we have preschool thru 8 so <10% are eligible to be vax'd. Likely <5% bc my informal count among DD12's 8th grade class is 1/3 vax'd, 1/3 waiting for more evidence and will likely decide to be by yearend, 1/3 will never. So frustrating esp bc I don't feel like school needed to decide/announce in July except it will help us to increase enrollment. Follow the $$.
Church also went mask optional with no mention of vaccinations being required. A friend of mine emailed the senior pastor who's response was that vaccines are too divisive. Yeah, well you're alienating several young families such as mine. So divide away, I guess. I haven't sent my own email because I'm honestly too hurt to be nice about it.

But, since there are breakthrough infections, I wouldn't count on 100% efficacy at preventing transmission. Those who do get ill have a lower viral load, so theoretically they should be less contagious

Those who do get ill have a lower viral load, so theoretically they should be less contagious My grandchildren are all under the minimum vaccination age. I have a great-niece who's our million-dollar miracle- they detected an underdeveloped heart chamber in the ultrasound before she was born, didn't think she'd survive the long after birth but she did. That was 8 years and 3 open-heart surgeries ago and her life is pretty normal, but my sister (her grandmother) would LOVE to get her into a vaccine trial. Yeah, I'd have mixed feelings but my sister is a doctor so I trust her opinion. Not my decision. As for going down the rabbit hole- my Alaska cruise next month requires full vaccination (I am) and a negative PCR test 3 days before sailing for crew and passengers. Now that mich has mentioned that you can be vaccinated, get an asymptomatic case and be shedding dead viruses and the test can't distinguish between live and dead viruses I'm a bit paranoid. I will be VERY careful in the 2 weeks before the trip (I'm pretty good about masking and distancing in closed public places anyway) and may even get an early test before the official one. A few travel insurance policies cover COVID but only if you have a case that makes you too sick to travel- not just a positive test result. Fingers crossed.

Cruises are tough, they are essentially an invitation to an outbreak. I would require one or the other, but testing vaccinated people does not make sense to me for that reason. We want to encourage vaccination, and I think that approach does the opposite

We want to encourage vaccination, and I think that approach does the opposite. This ship holds 60 passengers max. No casinos, spas, art auctions, buffets- all meals will be plated and brought to the table. Excursions are all nature-focused- skiff expeditions, hiking, kayaking. They've been sailing within Alaska since early May. So far so good. I would not trust just any cruise line right now but I trust them. And yes, I agree on the PCR tests. It would be nice if they'd drop that requirement since everyone will be vaccinated.

I still wear my mask inside most places. Since they said the vaccinated could not wear them, no one is making their kids wear them anymore. And these kids I'm seeing without masks are not old enough to be vaccinated. DH and I are wearing masks when out in public. I swear we are the only ones locally. All of the staff at the library are still wearing masks at work, but official policy is masks optional for FULLY vaxxed (and signage emphasizes that). Obviously kids aren't vaxxed, but several families bring them in w/o masks, or the kids come in by themselves barefaced. Drives me batty. A patron commented today to the director "oh, you aren't vaxxed" because director had her mask on. Yeah, that's the assumption - if you wear a mask then YOU are the jerks who didn't get vaxxed! Telling me the story later, director wished she had a pin like mine - DD1 sent me a little button that says "vaccinated" that I wear on my mask.
