NYT has a daily COVID tracker. Deaths, cases, trend, hospitalization. Still 300+ people a day dying.

Colorado still updates on deaths, hospitalizations, and waste water trends.
I don't feel like the message is that it's over, but changed to reflect current situation. Those who want protection can have it. Infants and people severely compromised have to be extra cautious, but that would be true without covid too.

Those who want protection can have it. Infants and people severely compromised have to be extra cautious, but that would be true without covid too. That was my interpretation too. We know wash your hands, stay home, test if needed, mask if needed. There are two main vaccines to choose from now and you've had not one, not two but FIVE opportunities to vaccinate at this point. We are moving out of the pandemic phase and into the endemic phase. There is no clear line in the sand on when one ends and one begins. Sometimes you even flip between the two for awhile. It's not the CDC hiding things it's per the defining characteristics of it the US is exiting out of the pandemic phase. That means the public health guidelines change along with it. If someone wants to keep operating at pandemic level guidelines that is their decision at this point. Anyone who choose to follow current guidelines isn't ignoring COVID, we're moving on with our lives. It's going to stay forever whether we want it to or not. I'm not interested in living in pandemic 2020 anymore.

please stop. the CDC still reports the COVID data linkmainstream media chooses not to cover it for whatever reason. place the blame where it's warranted. If you drill down on the data, it says this: Beginning October 20, 2022, CDC will report and publish aggregate case and death data, and line level data where applicable, from jurisdictional and state partners on a weekly basis rather than daily. As a result, this COVID Data Tracker tab will be refreshed every week, on Thursdays, by 8PM ET, instead of daily. In addition, hospitalization, vaccination, and testing metrics will not be available to overlay on other available metrics on the US and State Trends page until weekly versions of these metrics are released in the coming weeks. Daily versions of these metrics are still available on other pages of COVID Data Tracker.

What do you think they should be doing differently at this point?

As a side note, as someone that predominately crunches data and compiles pretty charts and presentations for a living, I'm just imagining some lone employee at the CDC going "Thank you Jesus!" when his boss gave him the news that he could finally switch to weekly.

I suppose this is a way to be more in line with that and cut the data gathering costs.

Ours reported weekly and is definitely going up. Currently one in 30 infected, not great, but it's been worse. A bit of common sense goes a long way...... ie... sitting in the surgery for a flu jab this week we wore a mask, we all did and no-one asked us to. We have had our Covid boosters because we know the numbers are going up and want a chance of normal Christmas celebrations. I have a flu jab because the last time I got flu, it turned in to pneumonia ..... which was horrible. Yes we have to learn to live with it .... but there are still things we can do to help ourselves.

This is why we are waiting until then to get vaccinated for our cruise. We get on 12/22. I have tested enough antibody to know when antibody levels peak, and after secondary (or later) immunization, they should peak around 2 weeks after vaccination.

Got the Moderna bivalent booster at 430 last night. Today was just a sore arm until after 3pm. Started shivering from chills, even though the house is at 69 degrees. Temp is 100.9, normal for me is 97.4.
I've had similar reactions to all of the shots, but the others were the same night and I was fine by the next day.

Got my second Pfizer booster on Tuesday, I was fine all day, then woke up drenched in sweat and alternate chills throughout the night. Spent most of the day in bed today, still dont feel right. Not sure why this one hit me so hard, but it's suppose to mean I have a healthy immune system 🤷♂️

New York State Supreme Court strikes down mandate for Covid-19 vaccinations: On October 24, 2022, the Court held that the public-sector vaccine mandate (1) violated the Separation of Powers doctrine under the New York State Constitution because it exceeded the New York City Board of Health’s authority, and (2) was “arbitrary and capricious” because, as the Court noted, “nothing demonstrated . . . as to why there was a vaccination mandate issued for only public employees in October 2021.” from www.mondaq.com/unitedstates/employee-benefits-compensation/1247368/new-york-court-strikes-down-nyc-covid-19-vaccination-mandatesSo we have moved past the acute stage to the endemic stage even legally. Common carriers including cruise ships no longer require testing; airlines are free to mandate or not masking. The only place we've been to lately that requires a mask is a healthcare provider.

Sheesh! I guess over a million dead from Covid isn't enough for this country. I'm curious which party appointed the judges/justices in NY that reached this conclusion...

Checking off my list. Third booster (this was the bi-valent one which was not yet available late May) done. Got the flu shot a month ago so now all that remains is the second Shingrix shot which is scheduled for after I come back from Europe. I feel like a pin-cushion

Got the latest booster too. This was on Monday with my mom and we both had some soreness in the arm the next day but doing fine now. I want to get the flu shot setup next.

Thank you for asking I am fine now to an extend. The very low grade headache is still there but boy was I ever cold last night. Now I had prepared for that but not enough for the combination open window, temp in the (upper) 30s, and the Covid shot shivers. So I got up in the middle of the night for more blankets. I can't remember when I last had that many blankets on but it was sometime before May '88 when we moved to Bangkok. I did get warm though and ultimately slept fine.

I felt like I had a mild cold starting Tuesday, and did a home test Wednesday, which came up positive. I cancelled cooking Thanksgiving dinner and scheduled a rapid test at Walgreens today. Got a very rapid positive result. Apparently according to CDC guidelines, I can stop isolating by Monday. I had baked an apple pie, and I don’t have to share it with anyone.

I bribed my parents into getting another booster. Dad said he didn't need it since he already had 3 shots in. I told him he's going to do it, I'm not asking. I had to buy him lunch, but he went and did it.

Did the flu a month ago, shingles (two shots) earlier in the year. Had a swollen, hot bump on my arm from the latest Covid, but today it’s nearly gone. The one that kicked my ass was the second shingles shot, felt limp and worthless got about 24 hours, thought I was coming down with a cold, but no, just the shingles shot. Still to go - pneumonia vaccine.

Got an email earlier - DS5's Orchestra teacher tested positive for covid this morning. They were scheduled to have their semester/holiday concert Tuesday. Mr. M tried to reschedule it for the following Tues, then a Friday, then another week later. Finally had to cancel it altogether.
I know Mr. M was being extremely careful not to get covid, because one of his sons has a health issue.
DD3 wasn't at Thanksgiving at my parents' house on Thursday (with her in-laws); she and SIL and DS2 were supposed to join us for turkey on Saturday. She and SIL called that morning to cancel, they were under the weather - must have picked up a bug at Thanksgiving. Not covid positive...yet. Could be any other virus going around, too.
Wonder how many other people shared more than food at all the holiday get-togethers?

Many people in my neck of the woods shared more than food over the Thanksgiving weekend.
My cousin's partner worked a shift in the ER on Thursday. Lots of Covid, RSV and influenza cases.
If the numbers here in Iowa are to be believed (I think the hospitalization numbers are valid), the number of people hospitalized with all 3 is going up each week.

Wow, 1 out of 20 people in the US have not gotten COVID at least once. "An estimated 94% of people in the U.S. have been infected with the COVID-19 virus at least once, according to according to a new paper from researchers at Harvard’s School of Public Health. "The big reason for the surprising surge? The omicron variant’s record-shattering case rates early this year and middling booster rates that fell short of what experts had hoped to see. "While that’s far from good news, there is a silver lining: As of early November, the percentage of people with some protection from new infections and severe disease is “substantially higher than in December 2021,” according to the authors." www.mercurynews.com/2022/11/26/just-1-in-20-people-in-the-u-s-have-dodged-covid-infection-so-far/?itm_source=parsely-api

I have not had Covid, and of the 16 or so people who show up at SLAP, only one has. Our 10 closest neighbors have not been infected either.
