We still have a disease that about 500 people a day are drying from. Some of those people did not get vaccinated because they were fed a line of BS by right wing media. The CDC has pretty much washed it's hands of the situation and no longer gives a damn.
Last week I took my cat to the vet. I wear a mask when I go indoors (besides my own home). I asked if the vet could wear a mask in the exam room. The receptionist looked at me like I was talking in tongues and asked me to repeat the question. I did and she said so you want the vet to wear a mask. Yes I do or we will have you take the cat in and return him to the me in the car. The vet worse a mask and didn't say a word about it. Well, if you choose to not be vaccinated and you die from COVID, I really don't care. If you die because you can't get vaccinated, or you die in spite of being vaccinated, it's a tragedy.

I agree Swamp. My uncle was vaccinated and he died. Yes, he was in his 90's and lived in a nursing home. The state of Iowa made it so nursing homes could not require employees to be vaccinated. So someone in the nursing home exposed him. I will never forgive this policy and that unknown person. I know he isn't the only person this has happened to. I'm still reading at least one obituary a week here for people who died from Covid.

I just found out another of DH's relatives tested positive for Covid, in an assisted-living facility in your state, TheOtherMe. I'm betting he got it from an unvaxxed employee too. There isn't a place hot enough in hell for someone who is in an industry that is supposed to take care of seniors, who exposes them due to their own stupidity...

Exactly. The patients in these facilities are too medically vulnerable to be around unvaccinated people. They shouldn't have to die this way.

My 65 yo mom tested positive on Sunday. She's boosted so let's hope it's minor. She said her worst symptom was a pounding headache.
I have a sore throat and DD10 already brought home a cold from school. We both tested negative. Her teacher tested negative at home and then positive at urgent care. DD just had it in June, so I think it's really just a cold. I haven't officially had it.

A person can definitely have it more than once as variants change. I tested positive in March and was pretty sick. I tested positive in July and wasn't anything close to being that sick.

Neither TD nor I have had Covid at all. It’s not that we avoided it, and both of us have been tested up the wazoo. Both of us had colds while on the last cruise but were negative for Covid by PCR. I did just see on the news this morning that Pfizer has applied to the FDA to release a new vaccine that includes 2 variants. They are set to release this in Sept, if approval goes through. www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/pfizer-asks-fda-authorize-updated-booster-shot-rcna44209

azucena, hoping for the best outcome and a very easy road to health for your mom. The Walk of the Penguin Mich, thank you for the good news, I've been hoping one of the new ones would come out early enough this fall to take it as the next booster.

We have been holding off getting boosted until right before our world cruise. Looks like the timing will work for us.

I want to get flu shots and covid done at the same time, even if they aren't the same shot. My doctor said to wait for flu until Oct 1 or it will wear off too soon.

We usually get our flu shots in early October so I am hoping we will be able to get both around then. I assume there will be a lag before the new covid vaccine is widely available as well as a rush early on. Hoping that October is a good time for us

Neither TD nor I have had Covid at all. It’s not that we avoided it Same. I haven't really thought about it much for the last year and the only place I've been masked since then is the hospital that requires it. Carrot has been exposed so many times including tenting with a kid in a two man tent for 3 days that he must have had it without us knowing it.
Not that there hasn't been a lot of it going around in my county. It's calmed down some now, but for awhile it seemed like I was hearing of someone else getting it every other day. The people I was dog-sitting for couldn't pay me for watching the pup until a few days ago because they both tested positive a couple days after they got back. At work several people in my aisle had it in the past month and they don't do anything special here anymore. It's treated like any other illness. On the plus side I don't know anyone that has gotten very sick, most have been super mild.

Neither DH nor I have gotten Covid. Nor has DD, although we spent time with her regularly. I'm grateful because DH is quite vulnerable to serious illness. I confess, I've eased up our restrictions a lot since we were boosted.

It's not that we have not been exposed either. Other than socializing with my sister maskless last spring, we have a guy in SLAP who has had covid at least 3 times. He does isolate himself when he finds he's covid +, but I'm sure that there are times where he's positive and hasn't tested yet. We have had a lot of long haul flights and a lot of cruise days, and managed to avoid it too. These days, I'm masking when it's required. At this point, it seems to be mostly the dental and doctor's offices that require it. My sister got covid, and she was pretty miserable the week after the wedding. It knocked her on her butt. All 3 of her daughters have had it, one had it before the vaccine came out. Her oldest just tested positive and has it. At this point, my sister is the only unvaccinated one, her daughters are all vaccinated.

I haven't had it either (touch wood)... despite being in School with children in front of me, for an hour at a time throughout the day...... who had Covid.
I always wore a mask and a visor to work though.
We have just had another wave from one of the variants of Omicron but its tailed off now.
Over 50s are getting offered a two-variant shot from Moderna in the Autumn.

Well, our pastor has Covid. It's his second time this year as he had it back in the beginning of the year. Yes, he's been vaxxed, so I'm hoping he gets through it again. What I'm less-than-happy about is that the pastor that was filling in for him referred to it as the "Chinese flu". I'll bet I can guess how he votes. Can't we all just be adults about this? Apparently not...

A man I know got laid off from the newspaper where he worked in Des Moines at the beginning of the pandemic. He went back to college (in his 40's) and got a master's degree so he could teach.
Kids came back to school this past week. He tested positive for Covid this morning.

None of us have had it. We are all vaxxed but we stayed in a long time too. It's at a high in our county too, and I'm betting the ones that have it are out running around. We haven't had any deaths in a while, thank goodness. 30 died where MIL was in the nursing home, senseless, employees who would not vaccinate. I suppose they were desperate for employees, but I couldn't live with myself knowing I gave it to a very sick, elderly person.

When he had it in the spring, he had had only one vaccine and ended up hospitalized. I am hoping he doesn't end up that sick again.

I guess, few more weeks for it to be available. We should know by the end of this week.
Here's When to Expect a 4th COVID-19 Booster Vaccine"A fourth COVID-19 booster vaccine will be made available to a majority of Americans in early September, according to current projections from federal health officials. This booster vaccine has been specifically designed to address the prevalent Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5, as well as to build further immunity on original SARS-CoV-2 strains (which is why it is called "bivalent")."

Supposedly Covid funding is running out and Congress has not given more funding. I wonder if we will have to pay for the next vaccine? Between Medicare and my insurance, I know I will not, but for others, cost will be a deterrent.

I know all of the provider relief money is gone. There are no more waves of payments to go out. I suspect at some point it will be treated like a flu shot in terms of payment. Moderna was working on a combo shot which would be nice.

Between Medicare and my insurance, I know I will not, but for others, cost will be a deterrent. The Pfizer vaccine was only about $20/dose when it first came out. I'm guessing it will be 100% covered by insurance as preventative and Target and Hyvee will be paying you to get the shot like they do with the flu shot.

Some interesting perspective from my trip here in E. Europe: last year at this time I was on an Alaskan cruise and two people tested positive (out of about 50 passengers). All of us were vaccinated and tested negative before leaving home and had to prove it. One couple went out bar-hopping the night before embarcation. All of us including crew were tested (all negative), kept in our rooms 24 hours (food, adult beverages, books and videos delivered), trip was ended 4 days into a 7-day cruise, all of us given refunds of 50%. I was still glad I'd ventured out. So... two women in our 11-person tour group here tested positive in Zagreb last week. They stayed in the same hotel, no special quarantine facilities, were not well-monitored, went out walking a lot, with masks. The rest of us didn't have to take tests and AFAIK no one did. One woman from the two "left behind" will join everyone for the farewell dinner here in Ljublana tomorrow night (I'll be leaving today) and another will fly home on schedule but will be leaving from Zagreb. Tour company had local support teams to help them with logistics. Both are feeling fine. I'm comfortable with the way things are now. For those vaccinated and with no major health issues, it's not the occasion for panic that it used to be. I'm grateful.

I read the Boulder CO paper online every day. Today I read about the death of the husband of one of my long ago friends due to Covid pneumonia. He was 71. I was shocked to read his name and was hoping it was another person of the same name, but it wasn't.
I messaged a mutual friend and she said he was healthy and vaccinated.
Please don't be too careless. This can still kill you.

Thank you. So am I.
They must not trust people to get them sick as the funeral is online and only invited family will be allowed at the church.
