How poorly is the Queen?.......... Buckingham palace don't tell you anything but she has cancelled her video engagement for a second day. She looked very frail, last time we saw her at Christmas...shockingly so.... and now she has Covid. I think they are getting ready for her not being here..... maybe not imminently but certainly not so far off..... She will have been vaccinated, of course, but my sense is that we are in the window where preparations are being made for her demise. I am so sorry to hear that the Queen is still not feeling well. I know that I shared my sentiment of "The Queen tested positive. RIP Covid." upon finding out that she contracted the illness. She is such a force of nature that I think everyone is hoping she pulls through this one as she has through so many other difficult times in her life.

So next weekend my county will drop the indoor mask mandate for those of us who are vaccinated. As LA county did that this weekend we will be the last stragglers in the state - and I don't mind that at all.

I will be wearing my mask when going to indoor places and my personal mask mandate remains in place.

I will continue to wear mine indoors with groups and while shopping. We are leaving tomorrow on a weeklong group trip and have received mixed messages. One tour rep said masks were only required at the airport and on the plane, but I got an email yesterday from a tour guide saying masks required when indoors and proof of vaccination required as well.

Must say I am happy that as of February 28, Canada is no longer requiring a negative Covid test for vaccinated people to enter the country.
I can take off on a whim if I want to.

I think my workplace is the only place in the county still requiring masks, but it has to be ending soon as we're getting almost no cases in the county anymore. My son's school has not had a single case the entire month of February and at work we've gone from having 60-70 people either sick or quarantined to just a handful last week.

My county ended the mask mandate on February 21, yet people are almost all masked yet in stores and restaurants. I continue with the mask, too. I have a real fear of bringing Covid home to DH.

I wonder if they are still doing these damn random Covid checks <scowling at the 2 boxes we need to do this am when TD wakes up…..BEFORE coffee>

Nephew said they will still be doing those. Well, crap! I’d much rather they this than the test to get across the border. Doing the random test is a royal pain in the ass. I have now gotten snagged is about 30% of my border crossings.

My sister and I had to do the "random" test when we crossed the border.
For us, DN1 had everything set up for us and we did it shortly after we arrived.
Yes, it's a pain and I hope I don't have to do it when I go.

This article has a link that you can check on the status of your county. Whether the risk is low, medium or high for Covid. www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/cdc-mask-policy-look-up-your-county-s-covid-level/ar-AALB0GM?ocid=msedgntpThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has changed its guidelines for wearing masks indoors to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The agency will use new metrics to determine local community levels of COVID that will determine when masks are recommended in indoor spaces.
While the agency previously measured new COVID cases and local positivity rate, the agency now considers three new metrics -- new hospitalizations, ICU bed occupancy rate and new COVID cases. The CDC's decision reduces the number of Americans living in counties with high COVID levels from a large majority to a considerable minority of less than 30%.
You can look up your own county's community COVID level with the CDC's new COVID-19 County Check tool. Simply enter your state and select your county via drop-down menu to see your local community level of COVID-19 -- orange for high risk, yellow for medium and green for low.

They're back to listing type 1 diabetes as high risk which is annoying how we were told it was a risk factor considered for getting the vaccine.
I need to talk to ds endo about treatments for him and maybe more frequent testing.

Not taking, getting. It wasn't a risk factor considered when high risk persons were eligible.

With so many people using home tests, we have no idea of how many cases there are in any county, state or the entire country.

Hospitalizations in our state are only 25% the numbers they were end of January and we have almost nobody out at work anymore.

And there we go - the governor is dropping mask mandates for schools March 2. Yesterday we got the robocall from our district superintendent that our district is dropping masks, too, on Wednesday.
Which means my employer is likely dropping the mask requirement for patrons, too, since the board has said we'd follow the school's lead.
One the one hand, it's stupid to drop the masks on Wednesday. Why Wednesday? Why not today, when the break ends? What's special about Wednesday?
On the other hand - why right now? It's still cold out (single digit wind chills), no one is outside, we are still mostly inside with windows closed. Why not wait until after spring break? What's the rush?

Masks on it makes sense to have lead time. Masks off it doesn't.

It's still cold out (single digit wind chills), no one is outside, we are still mostly inside with windows closed. Why not wait until after spring break? What's the rush? Masks on it makes sense to have lead time. Masks off it doesn't. Mid-winter break was last week; kids returned to school today. The governor's original plan was to wait and see what the fallout was from students/families (and teachers) traveling over the break: would there be an uptick in cases? They gave out test kits, hoping people would test before returning, to judge positivity. Then the governor would decide on lifting mask mandates on March 7. Which makes sense - you need to wait a few days to see if an uptick in cases materializes, or not. No, let's just decide (one day before break ends) to unilaterally lift the mandate 3 days in the future. What if traveling to lots of random places (including high risk areas, possibly) does increase cases? You've already lifted the mandate prematurely. If masks ARE moot at this point, why wait until Wednesday? Her original plan made sense. One more week, before deciding it's all clear.

Thanks for this link. My area is still High while the area in Iowa I visited earlier this month (little town in Wright County) and Des Moines, where DS and DDIL live, are now Low. I'd felt all along that mask compliance was a lot looser in IA but hey, maybe it swept through more of the population so they have some immunity- it did hit DS, DDIL and 2 of the 3 kids. (DS and DDIL were vaccinated- the kids were too young.) I'm still masking in indoor spaces where I will be there for awhile and don't know others' risk factors (e.g. stores).

Here in Iowa, we no longer have an official dashboard, so the number of cases are unknown.
Masking here is pretty much doesn't happen because we never had a mask mandate.

Well, I better make sure I have plenty of masks for the time being - they are dropping the mask mandate for vaccinated and unvaccinated alike. I may end up as the last masked person around - and get picked up for any and all robberies

I'm done wearing a mask unless I'm specifically asked or required to. I did my part, got vaxed, likely had covid a few weeks ago. It's pointless to wear one now.

The minute work sends out the email saying our mask mandate is done, mine is getting dropped in the garbage can. They're the last holdout in town it seems. Schools haven't had them for a month and we haven't had a city mask mandate for forever...late 2020 or early 2021 that ended.
