I just spent $140 on makeup and itโs all andi9899โs fault! I go through a โlearn to use makeupโ phase every couple of years or so, so Iโm overdue for this one. I probably wouldโve held out longer if not for andi volunteering to help me learn. I have a trial size Fenty foundation that I finally actually put on my face today. I ordered it in the hydrating formula. And concealer, my under eye isnโt cute. And uhhhh..... other stuff...... that I donโt know how to use lol. All from Fenty. I got over $200 worth of stuff. EEK! I have a Mac concealer, that I also finally used today, but it doesnโt cover the dark under my eyes. If anyone has tips as to why it doesnโt, Iโm listening! I really struggle with matching products to my skin tone. And because I love being outside when the weather is warm, and donโt mind getting even darker, Iโm not the same color year โround. So even more complicated. But I hope that if I play with it enough, Iโll figure out what works best for me. Itโs just that experimenting and trying to figure out products can get so expensive. I went through that with hair products when I started wearing my natural hair and spent a small fortune. My bathroom looked like a beauty supply store and I gave a LOT of stuff away that didnโt work for my hair. When I finally emerged from the bathroom after playing in makeup today and Mister saw me, he was like โwowwwwโ. Iโve been totally bare-faced almost every day since last spring, so I guess it was a dramatic difference lol. Iโve watched enough videos to know that good makeup application is really an art. I tip my hat to anyone that has serious makeup skills. OAN, I wear fabric masks all day at work. My skin doesnโt like them. It clears up on my days off work, so Iโm pretty sure itโs the masks. I have to try to remember to not use fabric softener when I wash them tomorrow. I normally just throw them in a mesh bag to wash with my delicates (bras and such), but maybe I should wash them by themselves since I use fabric softener on my delicates. Seems like a waste though to just wash face masks by themselves. I only have about a dozen. Is anyone else having a similar issue?

I am afraid of issues with detergent lingering in my fabric masks. I have so many allergies. I wash mine by hand in the sink with clear antibacterial hand soap. Also if I'm wearing one all day, I wipe my oily zones with those oil absorbing sheets when I take it off to eat, in the restroom, etc.

I don't usually have to work all day in a mask, but I have a whole section of laundry dedicated to no fabric softener use. Mostly, my kids -- clothes most of that dry fit type of material and some fleece.
I may not be dark, but I've also had to buy a bunch of different foundations over the years to find the right colors. I've got an idea now, and I know to stay away from pinky tones for my foundation.

I don't have to mask all day, but I find myself itching if I have to wear one for a couple of hours. I hand wash all mine now and use hand soap on them. It's worked so far. It was nice to see everybody. Sorry my camera wasn't working, but I just ordered a new one so I'll be "present" at the next showing!

But Iโm not wearing them now because itโs too cold to ride my bike. Who knew that undertones could be such a big deal, right? I mean, I realized it when I went through the ordeal of finding gray paint that worked in my other house, but damn, makeup too?

I likely need to go to Merle Norman and have them do my makeup, I'm sure they could improve upon what I do. I use base, blush, powder, and brow pencil. I cannot use anything around my eyes or my eyes won't stop tearing. So that limits me. Once in a great while I will use mascara, but I pay for it and have to use lid cleaner to get every bit off. I just bought dry eye drops to see if it helps me with the cpap as my eyes tear most days. I look like I'm crying.

I wash most stuff with Allergy Free All or some other allergy free products. We have a water softener so I don't need fabric softener. Beside you get to much in towels they won't dry, they repel water. Sometimes I will rinse loads with vinegar added, it takes any residual soap out. But I use the pods so don't use to much. I will add powdered borax to hubs dirty clothes or towels sometimes. And if something is really dirty, I wash in hot water with regular All and do a double rinse.
I really like my Speed Queen washer, has an agitator and will fill with water. It has an eco cycle that I have never used. I hated the washer that didn't fill or clean my clothes. LOVE this one.

I apologize that I have not read all the pages, but has anyone mentioned a cream or treatment for age spots on your face? I'm 53 and of course worshiped the sun in the 80's - along with tanning beds. I really need to start doing something about the blemishes.
I'm very minimalist with make-up and face routine. Wash daily with Noxzema (after work) and wash with Aveeno Foaming wash in the mornings before work. I do use a toner, primer, liquid foundation, mascara, eye shadow and a little blush.
Thank you!

I'd ask your dermatologist about laser treatment. Also, tretinoin (prescription strength retinol) helps dark spots, I believe. I tend to think that once you get to the point where discoloration, etc. really bothers you then it's too late for OTC and you need a doctor to give you the 'good stuff'! I got lasered a couple of weeks ago for underlying redness (I have rosacea) and use tretinoin every night. I'm very pale so am not a sun worshipper but am definitely seeing the signs of aging. I told my dermatologist that I was starting to feel 'hag like' and she laughed and said "well, we can't have that"

What's the rule for picking the right foundation color? A little darker than your skin? Try for matching? And where do you test it, on your forearm? I'm for sure using the wrong color.

I think Iโll practice my eyeshadow again today.

Iโm interested in the answers too. Before COVID, the last time I searched for foundation, I went to Sephora, and we tried different foundations directly on my face. The only advice I know is that it helps to have an idea of your undertones, people had been giving me makeup that ended up being too red for years and I never knew why until that Sephora trip, when she almost did the same thing until she looked more closely at my skin. Also, go outside and see what it looks like in natural light before you buy it. The lighting inside a store isnโt always the best for determining whether itโs a good match for you.

Supposed to check foundation on the inside of your wrist. Personally, I err on the darker side because otherwise I look deathly pale. Plus, inside of my arm tends to be lighter than my face.

It was a pretty big deal when Rihanna started Fenty Beauty and offered so many shades of brown foundation. Some of the big companies scrambled to follow suit after she did it.
I got a free sample of Fenty foundation some time last year when I purchased something at Sephora. Never tried it until yesterday, and it blended perfectly with my skin. So I bought it, except I got the hydrating formula instead of the matte, because my skin is dry.

When you do find a right one, someone, probably andi, posted somewhere a link that will tell you the correlated color in other lines of product...

I'm rocking my burnt orange eyeshadow today! I didn't get it quite as nice as andi does, but I'm happy with the results. I'll get better at it! Now I'm just waiting for my Ulta order to see if I can't find a peach blush that isn't too orange.

You'll want to match it to your face. If you know what shad you wear in at least one foundation, you can go to the findation website and input it and it will tell you what shad you need. If not, there are plenty of shade finder tools on the store websites. If you still can't figure it out, you can go to Ulta or Sephora and have them match you.

I got some of those patches drama suggested for blemishes. I'm scared of what I may find when I take it off.

DD2 takes hers apart and washes it on short cycle top rack of the dishwasher. She's a makeup junkie.
Face mask washing - no fabric softener. I wash mine with my whites as they should be waxed on HOT. And my DD1 and DS1 have good luck with swapping out masks at lunchtime.
Put wool balls in your dryer. They will soften your clothes without turning the whites grey (most fabric softener will cause whites to end up with a dingy cast) or leaving chemicals behind.

I received my Ulta package today. My Target order should come tomorrow. I will be playing around with different shade of pink for the next few days! Yay! I don't have anything this burnt orange goes with, but I like how it makes my eyes look so blue.
