I'm dealing with really dry skin & hair this Winter. I've begun using WOW shampoo & conditioner, and so far like the results. I'm still trying different skin moisturizers, as I've got very thin, sensitive skin. But, as I've begun to see the beginnings of dark spots & wrinkles, I want to fight it NOW, and not wait until I think I oughta talk to a plastic surgeon. Any successes with specific products would be appreciated. Also, my neck skin is beginning to show it's age, too, darn it! I have really dry skin too. The best shape it’s ever been in, even during winter, was when I was making my own body butters. I would use it when my skin was still damp from showering. It took some experimenting and trial and error to get the recipe I really liked and that’s when I realized I didn’t really care for Shea butter. Experimenting with different oils and butters got kind of expensive, but when I finally got the results I wanted, it was worth it. Plus, I knew exactly what was in it since I was making it myself. Just talking about it makes me want to start making it again. And I just realized you’re probably talking about the skin on your face, duh! I’ve used avocado oil and camellia oil on my face, with good results. I apply it after cleaning my face, while my skin is still damp. Oils don’t moisturize, but they can help seal in moisture, which is why I apply on damp skin. Both oils absorb well, but camellia oil is lighter and absorbs quicker. I used avocado oil mostly during winter. Sephora makes it easy to find products with all natural ingredients on their website. I’ve used an all natural moisturizer for the last couple of years that I buy there. It’s not cheap, but it’s awesome imo. My skin is sensitive too, so when I find something it can tolerate or better yet, likes, I tend to stick with it. I can provide details for anything I mentioned that you might be interested in.

I thought they used to be just beeswax? But apparently everything by them has coconut in them... I know coconuts like the thing now but hello... some people are allergic or react to coconut. Off topic but my previously fav almond flour choc chip cookie mix was upsetting my stomach last week and yeah coconut sugar... I am almost positive that didn’t used to be in there. Grrr Coconut oil actually has a high comedogenic rating, which means it can clog pores. That’s why I’ve never used it in anything I made at home.

My struggle with finding foundation has been that even when I get someone to help me, they chose wrong. I finally found someone at Sephora that realized what the problem was and I got a product by Urban Decay that works, but it’s since been discontinued. She even made the same mistake at first, but took a closer look and said something that made sense and I could see it myself after she brought it to my attention. At first glance, it looks like I have reddish undertones on the skin on my face. But if you look closer, there’s actually some olive undertones. Eureka! Everybody before had me buying foundation that ended up being too red. She was the first to see the olive/dark yellowish undertones, and matched me perfectly. I have a couple of Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes, they don’t show up well at all on my dark skin. If any of you lived near me and wanted them, I’d give them away. I created my own palette by Mac. Their eyeshadows show better on my skin. I bought the palette, oh about 2 years ago, and have never played with it.

I tried to do a full face ‘quick’ for practice and it’s ok I think. Daughter said my application was ok but my lipstick doesn’t go with my eyeshadow...? Is that a thing? Depends what she means. But one rule is that only one should be bold. So if you're going for a bold lip your eye shadow should be subtle and more neutral and visa versa. And like you know how some colors don't work together on the same canvas or in the same room? Similar to your face.

I wear bold lipsticks, mostly darker shades, only because that’s what really looks good on me. I’ve wasted a lot of money trying subtle colors and even more trying to find a “nude” that works for me. Unfortunately for me, rich, dark colors are the only ones that look good with my skin tone, so I don’t have many choices for variety. If I ever figure out how to apply eyeshadow properly, I’ll really have to figure the lipstick thing out if I decide I like bold eyeshadow on me.

I like brown mascara so that always tends to limit me, but black is just too dark. I also prefer brown. I use L'Oreal mascara and Almay eyeliner. I'm not a true redhead, but I have red undertones and pale skin. I don't know how much other people can tell the difference, but I certainly prefer the way brown mascara and eyeliner to black.

I'm very into Clinique right now. What's funny is even within the same product of night cream, an oily version makes my face itch but the very dry version is great. I also use their foundation and I just got a face wash for night time. Like@oped, I don't like to "feel" the foundation on my face. The clinique one I have works well for that. I have the anti-redness one because my chin is bright red. However, I do like bare essentials for face powder and tinted moisturizer.
I use Aveda daily face lotion and exfoliant. I just started using actual eye cream at night too--Mario Badescu. I probably should not have waited until my forties to do that. IT Cosmetics makes a foundation called Your Skin But Better. It's ery lightweight. I forgot I had it. It has sunscreen in it too.

You want them to compliment each other. You wouldn't want to wear purple eyeshadow and red lipstick for example. A nude lip is always a safe look, but you can branch out with color. Just make sure they go together.

If you know what color matches and input it (even if it's discontinued) it will tell you what shade to get in a bunch of others. I've found it to be pretty accurate.

You just may have to pair it with a lip liner. I am pretty dark skinned, so I get the struggle. I can suggest some lip combos.

I haven't tried that or their full coverage bye bye foundation. Mostly because I have an assload of their CC cream from buying it on sale but have worn makeup less than 10 times since mid March. Normally would have gone through at least one in that time.

I've been inspired by the what are you doing thread to start wearing makeup again and trying to look better. I figured I'd start a thread on it as there has been a lot of conversation on that thread about Ulta and other finds.
I've hit up Ulta hard this past month. New eye shadow palettes, lip stick, foundation, eye liner, skin cream, etc. Andi and Drama got me curious about Urban Decay. I'm now the proud owner of two palettes. I was disappointed that I got no brush with the Naked Reloaded palette. Other than that, I'm hooked. After I use up some of what I now own, I'll be buying more.
I also got a couple of Juvia palettes: the Violets and the Berries eye shadows. I'm very disappointed in them. It takes a lot of layering to get the color close to what is on the palette. I'm very fair skinned so I can only imagine how difficult it would be for someone with a darker complexion. The 5 for $10 promotion got me too. I got some of those under eye luggage masks. I haven't tried them yet, so can't report on how good they are. Any one else want to jump in? Get yourself a set of nice brushes. They make a huge difference.

I've never used concealer but really need to. I have trunks under my eyes, especially the left one. How do you select a color?

I have a Bobby brown under eye thing I really like. Don’t remember how I picked the color.

I'm very fair, so a shade or two lighter is hard to come by. I may end up having to use the same color as my foundation.

My favorite skin care lines are Belif, CosRx, Tatcha, and Peach & Lily/Peach Slices.
As for makeup, I really like NYX and Colourpop. NYX Worth the Hype mascara is my favorite, and they actually make a good brown formula. I also like Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes. Pixie and Ulta make really good gel eyeliners, so I tend to stock up on those. Colourpop has the best lip colors. I haven't been using BB cream as much since it's pointless anymore since I'm working from home or wearing a mask (I also miss lipstick) but when I do put something on it's Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Age Perfector or NYX BB cream.
Hair care: Living Proof and Briogeo are my favorite non-drug store brands. Oribe for when I really want to splurge on something luxurious. Trader Joe's has a great shea butter deep conditioner and L'oreal 8 Second Wonder Water is really fricking incredible.

Anybody have an opinion on Philosophy products? DSIL loves one of their scents so I order it for her when I see a good sale (macys right now) and now I’m eyeing their miracle worker moisturizer. I’m appallingly lazy about putting on makeup but I reliably use an spf moisturizer in the morning-usually estee lauder daywear but am enjoying the loreal age perfect stuff I picked up somewhere. Also interested in recommendations for pore extractors. I use tarte’s amazonian clay foundation when not masked up. I have makeup forever and Nars concealers, but nothing really covers up the undereye baggage compartments I lug around. Super pale Scots-Irish skin (not in a good way!), freckles and rosy undertones-most foundations tend to be too yellow. Still interested in an eye tutorial!

The only philosophy I use is the purity cleanser and microdelivery exfoliating wash. I like both well enough. My skin is super fussy these days, and the purity is working better than anything else under current conditions. Anything too moisturising will still make my nearly 50 yo face break out. Anything too drying will trigger my rosacea.

I’m going to get hate mail but I use water most of the time to wipe my face. That is one area I lucked out. Like was mentioned before I do wish I’d thought of eye cream before my 40s and me late 40s but my skin is really pretty maintenance free thank goodness.

I am very lazy about wearing Makeup. I don't like wearing mascara and eye shadow. When I wore contacts the mascara always seemed to end up in my eyes and I ended up needing to remove my contacts. Luckily, my eyelashes are long and dark.
I also use Clinique Beyond Perfecting Makeup (I liked their Repairwear laser focus, but they don't make it anymore) or Estee Lauder Double Wear. I just may venture to Sephora to buy the foundation Andi Mentioned. I now use Urban Decay all night setting powder and Urban Decay Setting Spray. The last time I grabbed a bottle from Macy's I got an extra large bottle and it is too big to throw in my makeup bag, and I regret that.
I have a pore concealer from Clinique, but I don't use it often - it is in a bag I have at home, and I kind of forgot about it.
My moisturizer is Repairwear uplifting from clinique Dry Combination or another similar product from Clinique. I also have very sensitive skin, and I am hesitant to try new products on my skin. I tired the Este Lauder Doublewear after my DD told me it was the best.
I also rarely wear lipstick nowadays - but I got as a sample a lip gloss I really liked from Este lauder a few years ago, by the time I went back to buy it, they said they discontinued that one. the ones I have in my makeup bag here at work are Este Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Gloss.

I wear way too much makeup to just use water to clean my face. I also don't have the greatest skin. I have a routine with lots of steps/products.

I tried both foundations I bought. I like them both. I really liked the Clinique one. Fenty is good too, but the Clinique one was fabulous.

Also, if you like a one color smoky eye and need a little help achieving it, Too Faced makes a liquid eyeshadow. It's called the chocolate melted matte. It's VERY pigmented and a little goes a very long way. I have a few of them. Some are too light for my skin color or I'd have gotten all of them.
