A Southern California man has been indicted on charges that he attacked a police officer with an "electroshock weapon" during the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob, prosecutors said Thursday.

Rodriguez is charged with eight federal counts, including obstructing an official proceeding; impeding, obstructing, or interfering with a law enforcement officer during the commission of a of civil disorder; and assaulting a federal officer with a dangerous weapon.



The indictment alleges that Rodriguez carried the stun weapon and a flagpole inside restricted Capitol areas, but it does not describe whether a flag was attached. It also alleges that he broke a window at the Capitol building.

(CNN)One US Capitol Police officer has died and another is injured after a suspect rammed a vehicle into a police barricade outside the Capitol building Friday afternoon, the department's acting chief Yogananda Pittman told reporters during a press briefing roughly two hours after initial reports of the attack first surfaced.



The officer was identified by Pittman later Friday as Officer William "Billy" Evans, an 18-year veteran of the force and a member of its "First Responders Unit."

"It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of Officer William 'Billy' Evans this afternoon from injuries he sustained following an attack at the North Barricade by a lone assailant," she said in a statement shortly after telling reporters the name of the officer would not be released until his family was notified.

During the press briefing, Pittman said the suspect in the attack, who brandished a knife after ramming his vehicle into a police barricade on Constitution Avenue and was subsequently shot by officers, had also died.

The development is the first indication that people charged in the insurrection are cooperating against the pro-Trump extremist group. Federal prosecutors have made clear they are focused on building conspiracy cases against leadership of the Proud Boys and paramilitary groups like the Oath Keepers.

Court records have made murmurs for weeks about cooperators and plea deals in the works, and prosecutors revealed that a rioter wearing an Oath Keepers hat was in talks to cooperate earlier this week.

I was thinking something along this line should develop.....

Tomorrow or next opportunity will bring either a "At least you did that" or "You might put the American flag on the carport". Good for you! Incorrectly displayed American Flags (especially by people who are all about "tradition" or atleast seem to be) is a personal peeve.

On the benign side I, too, have spoken with neighbors (or dropped a "how to display your American flag" instruction booklet at their door).
This was mostly during 9/11 years. And then in the 2010's when it became common for people to fly their home country flag or the Home Town Sports Ball Team's flag or the Home Sports Ball Team's Rival's flag AND the American Flag. I assume the neighbor wanted to show pride in their cultural heritage (no problem with that!) or Sports Ball Team affiliation not something anti American. A gentle reminder of the correct way to display flags solved the problem.

On the "what are doing? are you stupid?!?" side:

There are no trump flags in my area... But when the "traveling trumper's" came to stand on corners or were flying their flags from the bed of their truck - I was kind of appalled at how they were using the American flag - considering they were "so American!"
(I saw one woman with an American flag draped over her shoulders and dragging on the ground.)

I'm telling you - it's hard for me to tell if trumpers are a joke and they KNOW it - or if they are serious about something they are totally clueless about (aka posers).

I think the majority of Trumpers and some others see the flag as an American branding statement versus a symbol that has rules on how its used to not desecrate it. I found post 9/11 tough because so many people were leaving the flag out in the dark, rain, and the wind. And then there were those car flags.
