Southern Susana your dining room looks very festive. Are those the chairs you painted? I still have spring/summer pastels in my dining room. You inspired me to decorate tomorrow

Lol, yeah only a few hundred miles. My favorite gravy to make is with turkey when I have done the turkey on a charcoal Weber grill. The gravy has a rich, smoky flavor to it. I use all the juice so that I have leftover gravy for days. I always use a fat separator with any meat juice that I'm going to use for gravy. Works great. And a short swim... I've seen those. So, you like to use that eh,? I'll keep an eye out for one on sale. I did get too much fat in the gravy last year. It also gets too salty because we brine the turkey. The two things that bug me the most about making gravy, though, is forgetting about it, and then I'm in a rush trying to make it at the last minute, and getting the drippings out of the roaster, which is huge and heavy. I love it. I had never heard of them but at my last parish people knew I liked to cook so that was a gift I received when I was leaving the parish. Works so well. Since you brine, might try watering done the juice a bit, IDK. I've only brined once, and cooked the turkey on the Weber and didn't realize that since it was brine, it was colder than usual. Ate an hour later than planned since it took longer to cook the turkey.

I was going to invite the college students who live in our discernment houses to come over for Thanksgiving. Cancelled that, but still might cook a turkey for 10 days of leftovers. lol

We have uninvited all but our youngest child who is 18 and needs to come home from college for a few days. I'm quite sad.

Learned it over time, always have been adventurous in trying new things. The first time I ever tried Beef Wellington or Leg of Lamb was when I cooked it. I love trying new things. Ok, pride in my cooking probably is a fault, but I really am good. lol

They put all the letters of the alphabet in a sack and pulled out a letter at a time. The guy pulled out the first letter, "C, eh" then pulled out "N, eh" then pulled out "D, eh"

Middle of country is ‘red’ while coasts have fewer cases. Virus is hitting places in delay from first terrible wave, thankfully physicians know how to treat this better now, more effective drugs and vaccine is coming. But even if death rate is down this disease has terrible damage. Starting to increase also on coasts as weather gets colder and people move indoors. Hoping by next summer cases will be much fewer We are still in the resource crunch problem though even if we know more. There are fewer beds available in Rehabs now because of the disasters that happened early in NJ. I do not know all the regulations the governor has passed, but I am noticing many of the effects given procedures now and procedures in the Spring. More needs to be done. The death rate will go up once resources like beds, nurses, and even housekeeping help go down. Medical workers take off time for the holidays like everyone else. Given the spread everywhere I don't know if there is enough trained agency staff out there even if facilities wanted to pay for them and could afford to. Despite RW talking points, I think most facilities and hospitals are bleeding money, not making it.

Dammit, irishpad! I'm gonna tell you one more time. It's not "Upper." It's " Yooper." Yooper. Repeat after me: Yooper. Okay. Now say it all by yourself: Yooper. Natives of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan are known as Yoopers. Natives of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan are known as Trolls.

No, I'm across from Milwaukee. Closest way to Canada for me is through Detroit, which is about 3-4 hours drive (I think).

I'm convinced Mother Nature is purging the earth of stupid people to assist with the over-population and climate crisis... The rest of the world thinks we are morons. I wonder what mother nature had against New York? At any rate, we’re not doing a big family gathering, and if we go anywhere for Thanksgiving, it’s going to be day trips to national parks. Play dates are rare and exclusively outside. i don't know about mother nature, but Covid seems to love large cities and travel hubs.

tractor I am so sorry! It's not your fault that you're a Troll. There are only two ways to become a Troll. One is an accident of birth. The other is a career that forced you there. In either case, you have my most sincere sympathy, as do others who are not as fortunate as I am.

thyme4change and Lizard Queen Georgia's doing nothing except rising like the incoming tide. There's a hitch in the git-along software, and that's why it's showing up like cases are down by 50% or more. They aren't. Yesterday we were at 2547 new cases, up from 1700+ on Wednesday. Yep. We’re in the top left side of the state, a suburb of Chattanooga, and cases are doubling every day there. It’s every man for himself. I told DH we’re going back to picking up groceries from the Walmart drive through, to try to avoid the maskless wonders in the store I have friends up that way, Adairsville. it sure is pretty country out there. back to your regularly scheduled thread. 😉

She's recovered from the grand mal, which took about 48 hours of napping/resting. She has an appointment with a new neurologist in a few weeks.

Knee Deep in Water Chloe That's a happy turkey if ever I saw one. Every year he gets to celebrate that nobody's going to turn him into dinner. He's not lonely; he has you and the whole family admiring him every year, and when the holiday is over, he gets to take a long nap until next year.

So, was I a Yooper for a brief moment when I got off the school bus on the north side of the bridge before starting the southbound walk? 😉😂

Tractor that is some divine country up there. DH and I visited mackinaw island a few years back in late October (to avoid some of the fudge crowds) and it was beautiful. Of course there was no snow and ice at the time, I imagine that canbe tough.

I've spent holidays, including Christmas, alone. I think having some plans for the day/weekend is a really wise idea. It really helps. I chose to turn a bummer alone day into a day of doing something I like. I generally get in the car and go find somewhere to hike. Even if there's snow, there's something about getting out in nature and taking charge of the day that really does help. While we didn't spend holidays completely alone, usually it was just me and my parents. I have no siblings, neither does my mom.
Even now, I do tend to gravitate towards hunkering down with my nuclear family.
With folks having less kids, now, I assume that large holiday celebrations will eventually be a thing of the past, anyway.
So, my empathy meter is a little broken regarding being sad over not having big get to gethers for the holidays.
nuclear family isn't the same as being alone.
