And for this, we all owe a big vote of thanks to Tiny, whose name for some reason, won't come up to personalize the comment. This one's for you, Tiny I'd post a blue ribbon, too, if I had one!

We are staying home this year. I was on the fence about going to my aunt's for the weekend. I was going to wait and see how it played out in the next few weeks. I did the dry erase calendar in the kitchen for November. My DH is potentially on jury duty the week after Thanksgiving so we are going to stay put. We were told to stay home for Thanksgiving. Some people didn't listen, and now our cases are sky-rocketing again. (...and we were doing so well!) Rather than skip Thanksgiving, lockdown to stop the out-of-control spread, etc... Americans will have excuses and gather in large groups. We never seem to learn. Might as well kill off grandma for Christmas to have turkey. Maybe I have Asperger's or something, but I don't understand how people don't get the concept that if we keep doing what we are doing, millions of our people will die.

I'm convinced Mother Nature is purging the earth of stupid people to assist with the over-population and climate crisis...

I still don't know what I'll do for Thanksgiving. Generally I go to a friend's house because she always invites me. I don't care about Thanksgiving and I don't like turkey, but she makes the whole traditional meal with all the sides and desserts. Last year was sad. We used to be a large group, but one of the friends cut them off, her daughters moved to GA, and another friend went to Florida for the long weekend. It was just 4 people with a huge meal. It was depressing.
I don't think she's even going to do anything this year. I have another friend who's already invited me and I know she does traditional Uruguayan food instead of turkey. I may go there this year.

I wonder what mother nature had against New York? At any rate, we’re not doing a big family gathering, and if we go anywhere for Thanksgiving, it’s going to be day trips to national parks. Play dates are rare and exclusively outside.

DH and I were watching Andrew Zimmern on TV the other night -- it was an old segment about Joe's Stone Crab in Miami and I realized stone crabs are in season now...maybe stone crabs for the night before Thanksgiving? With mustard dipping sauce. I'd be happy with a nice green salad on the side and that's it, but DH would want something else as a side; maybe half a baked potato for him (I don't serve mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving, because of the stuffing. I do serve baked sweet potatoes, topped with a little butter and brown sugar and Maldon sea salt.).

There will just be the two of us for Thanksgiving. Not seeing either of my kids and their families. We're deciding how much of a traditional menu we want to make. I think we will roast a chicken, make stuffing and pumpkin pie and drink a lot of wine.

Since DH and I seem to have covid now, I guess it won’t matter if we have people over for thanksgiving. DH is waiting on test results now. I will have to go next week.

(((((((((((((( bean ))))))))))))))) hugs ........ and get well soon and easily
We were at g-g-dtr 6th birthday party yesterday and stayed for about an hour. A gathering of 12 of us and the kids mostly stayed outside while adults talked and stayed separated. Think we are ok but keeping fingers crossed.
Talked about Thanksgiving and DH and I bowed out of the family celebration. DD usually has about 25 of friends and extended family so the 2 of us staying away might make others think also.
Maybe one other couple will join us for the celebration, maybe at a restaurant on a patio. Don't know yet

It will just be DH and me this year. I just placed an order for an 8-10 pound turkey because DH insists on turkey (I personally would prefer a nice beef roast). Anyway, I'll make all of the sides and apple (for DH) and pumpkin (for me, although I do like apple, too) pies -- just in smaller quantities and sizes. Next year we'll have a crowd.

So you will be tested next week? It does still matter if you have people over for Thanksgiving. If you are positive, you could be shedding the virus or people you have over might be positive. Please take care of yourselves.

CDC issues robust new Thanksgiving guidance as cases surge in US"Traditional Thanksgiving gatherings with family and friends are fun but can increase the chances of getting or spreading COVID-19 or the flu," the CDC said. "The safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving this year is to celebrate with people in your household." For those who do plan to spend Thanksgiving with people outside their household, the CDC advises that you wear a well-fitting mask, keep 6 feet of distance from people who do not live with you and wash your hands often. If attending a gathering, the agency recommends that you bring your own plate, cups and utensils; store your mask safely while eating and drinking; avoid going in and out of the kitchen while food is being prepared; and use single-use options for condiments and food containers. Too little, too late on the CDC, but good to finally see it.

Our family was planning to have an outdoor thanksgiving but decided no. There are too many cases now and it would be terrible if someone got sick just when the vaccine is within sight. Plus the children are in school (at least few days per week) and we have teachers. So exposure possibilities might be too high for the high risk family members. We’ll do a zoom, and look forward to many future family holidays. Easter was only s Zoom call and it was ok

Sadly, it will be the same for Christmas. That will be harder for many families.
People around here won't even be wearing masks for Thanksgiving so that should go well.

Those folks who won't be wearing masks for Thanksgiving may very well not be here for Thanksgiving next year. And they'll be too dead to have learned a lesson.

I think that is the only way they will learn the lesson. It makes me sad.
My sister had a very mild case of covid during the summer. She now is insistent that she had a false positive and it's just the flu. Hubby also says it's just the flu. See why I won't go to their house.

Mild, so nothing to get concerned about, or she had a false positive, so it isn't spreading and there is nothing to worry about.

I've been talking to DH about Thanksgiving. Since it's just the two of us this year, we think we will stretch it out for at least a week. Maybe pecan pie next week and pumpkin the week after that. Turkey with stuffing and potatoes on Thanksgiving, and then candied yams a few days later with left overs. Enjoy all of our traditional foods, but not on the same day.

Sounds good to me, just as long as you have a holiday style dessert every day. So far there are only pecan and pumpkin pies mentioned. Jussayin

I bought 2 apple pies since Grocery Outlet had them for $3.99 on a BOGO free. I've cooked both. DS asked if we had to wait until Thanksgiving. Nope, we can always get another or make something else. I think a lot of us will have getting in shape on our New Year's resolutions for 2021. lol

I need to find a Thanksgiving date or place to go. Single but Covid free, tested every week... Meanwhile - foxy! Didn't post image. Sadly, it will be the same for Christmas. That will be harder for many families. People around here won't even be wearing masks for Thanksgiving so that should go well. TG will be spend by myself and I am fine with that, despite the fact that I will really miss spending time with my adopted American family. Xmas will be hard. It will be the first time in my entire life that I will be alone for that holiday. We will have a Zoom gift exchange/unwrapping event with DS2 and family, and DS1 and fiancee will join us from S'pore. So as good as it can get all things considered but far from real fu n. No snuggling with little boys, no request for the Grinch song for the umpteenth time that day (this might sound like an upside but that also means no giggling little guy), no "sharing" of my desert with them , etc. etc., etc. There is always 2021 to look forward to

I'm sorry NastyWoman I feel you. I want to snuggle my great nephew so much. Facetime isn't enough. I have chosen to spend Christmas alone at times in my life. I was wanting to join them this year, but it won't happen.
