The Walk of the Penguin Mich Hiding your address? So what you're saying is that I should save myself a cross-country trip. Fine. I'll be fine. Really. Don't give me another thought. I'll just cook the traditional stuff for DD/DSIL, the g'kids and me. You aren't invited Not saying that at all, just don't want to provide crab legs for the 500 people you'd be bringing with you! If you don't want to eat the traditional stuff, make what YOU want to eat for Thanksgiving? Who said you had to have turkey?

All the stuff is already in the pantry, cupboards, freezer. Sigh. Besides, it's been such a crappy year that it just feels like maybe one "normal" holiday would be a good thing. But feel free to invite me any other time...just please don't serve me escargot, k?

And I bet she thinks it is unfair that she is being charged, even though it is a law on the bests. Of course. No biggie ruining their young lives, right? Even if the charges are dropped, or the court case is shielded from view after they turn 18, what goes on FB stays on FB. She's done the damage out of some sick sense of righteousness. I just cannot be around her anymore. Iβm curious as to how she found out the names? You may have answered but Iβm to lazy to go back and hunt up posts! Regardless shame on her

I love turkey with all the fixings. There's 364 other days of the year to have something else. 365 this year--pretty sure it's a leap year. A year so fun, we get an extra day of it. π

If you don't want to eat the traditional stuff, make what YOU want to eat for Thanksgiving? Who said you had to have turkey? When I lived in New Haven, Ct., a friend of mine who lived in Clinton, Ct. (town is located on Long Island Sound) invited me and several others to his home for Thanksgiving dinner. While his girlfriend was busy cooking the turkey and trimmings, he and I went out on his boat and checked his lobster traps for snacks before dinner. Plenty of lobsters in the traps and we snacked well. Plenty of melted butter used too. So well we snacked that we ended up having no room for the traditional turkey dinner and sides. Went home with many Tupperware containers filled with turkey, stuffing, and other 'leftovers'.

The kids' names are on the arrest report, but if the police don't release the information it is not considered public knowledge and cannot be released by anyone else until either the police or the courts release the information OR the kids are charged as adults. None of which has happened.

Let me guide you to the side door, away from these free-riders.. Intricate and time-consuming variants on inexpensive ingredients are also possible. I'm not adverse to tamales or turkey mole if you know how to do them. Really great baked potatoes (salt-baked?) would be fine with me.
It isn't about the expense as much as it is about making a special meal. If you know how to do fantastic things with potatoes or brussel sprouts, this might be the time to bring that out.
Another thing to consider is the plan-overs. It's best to send elderly, single neighbors home wish a plate wrapped in tin-foil that is good for several meals. As much as I love seafood, especially the types that involve cracking or stacking shells, it really doesn't reheat well, so consider the sides carefully.

I love escargot with homemade French bread.

And I just signed up to volunteer with a local agency that helps families with food for the holidays. Normally they cook, package, serve, and deliver meals but due to the pandemic they will be delivering holiday ingredients to families instead.

I wish there was some store around my city which sold prepared goods like that. I think I was around 7-8 years old when I first tried escargot. They had me at the first bite.

If I could just figure out how that restaurant in Bergen did them........the dipping sauce I could have drunk alone out of my shoe it was so good.

escargot Y'all go ahead without me. Turkey mole? I think I'd be in heaven. Never had turkey mole, but chicken mole is to die for. We used to call it Chocolate Chicken. Chicken mole is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. Brussels sprouts? I could make a meal of them. Only DSIL and I like them, but they're already planned as one of the sides for T'Day Dinner. I make mashed potatoes with butter, sour cream, garlic, dry ranch dressing mix...all kinds of good stuff...then freeze them in muffin tins, pop 'em out, put 'em in zipper freezer bags, and take out however many are needed for a meal. And brandied cranberries. Cranberries for cranberry lovers and to make cranberry haters into cranberry lovers. Drat. Thanksgiving is still three weeks away.

Right now Thanksgiving will be Mom and I. I'm over at her house every two or three days at is so that isn't a new exposure. I have invited DD and her family, that would be 4 more if she decides to come. We will do a traditional turkey meal. Turkey is okay once or twice a year but it isn't something I really care for, but Mom will have a fit if we don't have turkey. Meh whatever.

I cook mussels in my own seafood broth, garlic and white wine. I save all my shrimp and seafood shells in the freezer to make the broth. They're packed with flavour. Serious flavour.

Mole, whether chicken (my go to restaurant order for 44 years) or chicken or turkey made at home make amazing enchiladas. I will be making some for sure with the leftover bird. I buy this Plastic bag of mole paste at a local Mexi grocery. So good. The darker the better. The Dona Maria brand is ok too and you end up with a usable glass.

Raw oysters on the half shell are delicious too. I wish we had a place with really good escargot. But I haven't found it yet. As for oysters on the half shell it doesn't get any better especially when you can get them right off the boat and for a small fee get them shucked and on occasion eat a few right there before heading home!!

This year, it will be just DH and me. ODS is at college, and YDS is in flyover country. My siblings would open their homes to us, but most of them arenβt as conscientious as we are about exposure, so not this year. DH will want turkey and all if the trimmings, me not so much, but weβll go the traditional route just this once. π
Next year? Look out!!! PARTY!!!πππ¦πΎπ₯πΈπΊπ»

We are staying home this year. I was on the fence about going to my aunt's for the weekend. I was going to wait and see how it played out in the next few weeks. I did the dry erase calendar in the kitchen for November. My DH is potentially on jury duty the week after Thanksgiving so we are going to stay put.

Mentioned getting T-day catered for our family of 4 so we could get most of the sides without going to all of the work. DH said, nah, I can make a turkey breast, mashed potatoes and corn. I was like what about rolls, stuffing, gb casserole, etc. He said we can just skip those. I told him that would make me sad on a day when I'll already feel like we're missing out. Today I sent him a link to the caterer/menu I was thinking about...$70 for 4-6 servings of almost everything we'd want. He said I'll sign us up. And if we get the cold version to pickup on Monday, we save $10!
Now, to get him to make broc/cheese/rice casserole in the next few weeks as that is the one key thing missing.
We had already talked about shifting our fav pies throughout this month. I never have room left to eat my fav pecan pie on T-day. This will be so much better to have it another day. DD12 requested pumpkin and I was going to let her go first. Walmart wanted 6.99 for a 4 serving size pie! So I spent 3.00 and got her two crusts, an extra large can of pumpkin pie filling and the two cans of condensed milk. She was a little miffed about that but we are both enjoying the baking smell now!

My MIL makes it, and it was very cholcalt-y. Yes, thanksgiving leftovers mean we eat things like Turkey Enchiladas, Turkey Mole, MIL and DH have very good imagination for how to use the leftovers.

My family is still working thru the stages of grief about Thanksgiving and Christmas and how they will be different this year. I've been dropping ideas on what we could do - and I noticed a change in the "rhetoric" about the holidays on Nov 1st. apparently, since even though Halloween wasn't "traditional" the family still had a nice time (it was just different and social distance-y, no parties) they are a little less sad about Thanksgiving and Christmas. (I suggested doing a "tail gate" Thanksgiving... we could set up the big homemade spit we use to roast lamb or a pig on - and do a couple of rotisserie turkeys outside in the yard, use the gas grill for some "tail gate" sides to go with the turkey, maybe set up a Big Screen TV in the garage and watch football. We can social distance, be outside -ish and still do Thanksgiving things as a 'family' - get stuffed on food and watch Football. )

I invited my parents over, and my husband isn't thrilled about it - even though we did my Mom's birthday inside - but numbers were lower then. So we are thinking about using the rotisserie and/or smoker and eating outside at noon or two or something. It is usually in the 70's and we have a heater and a chiminea. We have lots of outdoor seating, so we can spread out.
