Anyone watch 9 perfect strangers? I have two episodes left and it's just so weird that I can't figure out if I like it. I read the book and watched the series. (One of my favorite things to do - read the book and watch the movie.) Since you only have two episodes left, you have to watch them! You can't quit. The book wasn't as weird.

Didn't know it came from a book. Will pass on reading it as will likely warp me further. Too twisted for me personally. The book wasn't as twisted.

When you all watch shows for kids with kids (or young adults) as main characters that have high body counts (like Hawkeye or the animated Star Wars shows) and where the characters just kind of "brush off" the deaths of others BUT are totally motivated by "righting the wrong" of the death of a loved one -- do you find that uncomfortable? As in I get it that the heroes walk away from horrific crashes, explosions, gunfights and hand to hand fights with a few scratches - do you assume the people who are caught in the horrific crashes/explosions and gun fights and hand to had fights also just get knocked unconscious and eventually wake up and walk away from the disaster around them? I think I've lost my ability to not wonder about the "civilians" in the cars, in the homes/stores, walking on the streets who get crushed, blown up, t-boned, etc or who get caught in explosions or gun fire as the heroes battle the bad guys. When the characters in the show realize that not just enemy soldiers (who have no family) or bad guys die in wars or in street battles... is that the new trope that shows that character is becoming an adult (even if they have dozens upon dozens of kills in their own background done as a child and don't seem particularly bothered by it)? I get the idea that heroes killing "nameless/faceless" people is entertaining to watch - I love me some martial arts movies with outrageously high body counts (love those obligatory "corridor" fights.) And the first John Wick movie was awesome to watch. So, I can and do suspend belief (and morality) when watching these kinds of movies. But they also have a kind of "surreal" feel to them - you KNOW the "movie universe" isn't like reality... and the circumstance are so beyond anything in real life.... We held off watching those kinds of shows with the kids until they were older than most. At first, we really made the point that it is fiction, and killing is actually super sad. They se to have a good understanding what the difference is, and these comic book shows/movies are very much removed from reality. They are also more likely to end up showing the fallout from killing later on. There's swearing in it, though, which I still find uncomfortable because we avoided that for the kids for the longest time.

I was too young to see it with friends because it was rated R: no one under seventeen years of age allowed unless accompanied by an adult/parent. So my parents took me to see it. I remember the movie well.

Our kids were on the sensitive side of things. Ds likes marvel, but only the more make-believe ones. The antman movies were fine but we put on civil war to watch all ant man scenes and that was a mistake. That violence was too realistic and we still haven't gone back to any iron man or captain America movies with him.
I'll have to go back to Hawkeye. I was thinking dd would like that series. I thought it was home alone meets the avengers. I remember one car chase scene. With super hero movies the good guys always sweep in just in time. Lots of destruction, but the innocent background family is saved.
I was annoyed by the language in the animated clone wars cartoon when they were young and just started watching bad batch on my own.
Harry Potter was a high death count series that didn't just brush off casualties.
Ds really likes to read dystopian future series and historical fiction. Those have a lot of casual death and destruction. More than movies we usually watch, but reading can be both easier to skim past or more intense.

I’ve been watching Harlen Coben films/series. He’s from NJ but so far all have been set in the UK. Usually English mysteries are in quaint villages, big manor houses etc The Coben films are in gorgeous upper class suburban homes and neighborhoods. Lots of plot twists and some ridiculous subplots but entertaining Right now watching The Stranger

We watched the Star Wars movies with DD1 (now 10, but started around age 5) and she’s watched a few of the Capital America movies. When she started watching Star Wars (with DH), we had a talk with her about it being a movie and it’s not real. She’s read all the Harry Potter books but doesn’t have desire to watch the movies yet. She thinks it would bother her too much. On an author group I belong to, I had asked for recommendations on other books for her. Some of them recommended The Hunger Games series. I’ve read those books and watched the movies. (I amazed DH with watching those as that’s not my normal type of movie.) I think it would really bother her and stated as such to her. She picked some other books they recommended and now waiting to pick them up from the library when they are ready.

I watched Love Hard on Netflix yesterday. It was okay and I wouldn’t watch it again.

It’s set in Northumbria which is apparently either grimy industrial or bleak, cold looking seashores and moors. Not like the usual Midsummer Murder locale. It can be kind of grim, with violence against women and kids and a lot of drug use, but I am a fan of the head detective Vera. Excellent detective but grumpy, tends to yell, socially awkward, especially around kids. She could be my sister:)

So, I started watching Frankie and Grace. I'm pretty eh. About it. I've watched the first 7 or so episodes. What am I missing? I looked up the rating of the episode where Jane fonda is blowing on balls? It was an 8.1.
Maybe we've been homebound way too much, but I really only find that talk funny when it's well timed from my kids. (The peanut doesn't get timing yet,,so its not generally funny coming from her mouth)..It's not really funny coming out of Jane Fonda's mouth. Maybe I'm too young? Do you have to watch it with someone else to better enjoy the humor (funny movies are always better in packed theaters).

The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness by Sy Montgomery
is a very good book about the intelligence of the octopus.

Just finished Merlin last night, and I was very ready for it to be done! The main actor remained appealing, but the writing was not very good, and it just got worse and worse. Seemed like they just didn't know what to do at the end.
Gotta find another show now.

Dh and I watched Picard. That's the first show in ages I watched without any other distractions.
I'm watching star trek discovery when I'm on the treadmill.

DD13 started Raising Dion on hulu - the kid has superhero abilities. Kinda weird but she likes it. I half watched while I read a book. I just don't do sci fi.

I watched Inventing Anna. It was like 10 episodes, but would have been slow at 7 episodes. My husband described it as "hate watching" just to get to the end. But, we got all the jokes in the SNL sketch. 😁

Anyone watching The Thing About Pam ? It's not on Netflix but on NBC. A five part limited series based on a murder covered by Dateline over several episodes since 2014. It strange Renée Zellweger as the character Pam.
I've never been a big fan of Renée Zellweger and laugh to myself Pam's traits are probably Zellweger's traits in her private life. An interesting five part series. Parts one through three have aired.

I usually don't watch much TV, as I really like to read, but there are a few series on Netfilx that are based on Books by some of my Favorite Authors.
Right now I am trying to finish Season 2 of Sweet Magnolias, then I will start watching Season 2 of Bridgerton, and I still have to get to season 2 of Virgin River, and then there is Firefly lane - I don't think I watched any of that one yet.
I also want to watch the movies based on Lucy and Ricky Ricardo at some point.
Eta: I use DD's Netflix account...which was mine when she was in college, but someone hijacked it, and she did not know the correct info to reset the account, so she started a new account...so now I am reaping payback of all the stuff I paid for on her behalf over the years. When I talked to her the other day she said Oh, by the way, someone logged into the Netflix account from an Android. She thought maybe it was her brother, but It was me, I used my Amazon Show to watch Netflix while I was doing dishes.

No, Netflix isn’t cracking down on password sharing in the U.S.

No, Netflix isn’t cracking down on password sharing in the U.S.I feel like this issue is several years old. DD’s ex boyfriends sister used to use her account, but she changed the PW to kick her out. The only ones that use it are DD, (Me very rarely), and DS (also very rarely). DD said my son’s GF has her own account. We will deal with it if they make an issue of it, DD gets free Hulu already and she was talking about changing the phone plan she has with DS to give him access to another streaming service. Netflix has competition. DH and I also have Amazon Prime and Cable. I finished Season 2 of Sweet Magnolias. Ends with several cliffhangers, departed from to series by Sherryl Woods. Looks like might have to wait until 2023 for Season 3.

Last night we saw the Oscar Nominated Animated Shorts. Don't watch them this year.
But Robin Robin is on Netflix - it is cute and pleasant. The rest were dark and graphic.

I watched a few episodes of Inventing Anna this weekend. Now I find myself thinking with Anna's accent. I hope I don't accidentally speak with her accent.
