The people I know that have read the books said the series sucks in comparison. I might just read the series then and not even worry with watching it on prime I hear that books 6-10 were a slog, though, and included things like 10 straight pages dedicated to describing a dining room. No guarantee that the tv series will ever get that far into the book series.

I just finished Agent Carter and am bummed they stopped at 2 seasons. It was fun and answered some of the cannon questions that come up with the alternate timeliness at the end of the marvel movies and agents of shield.

No guarantee that the tv series will ever get that far into the book series. I read the first book but never picked up the rest. I'll probably watch the show when it's out and see if it makes me want to read the series.

While the books do spend a fair amount of time describing dress, location, and food, for me it just helped with the immersion and world building. He does get repetitive with some of his phrases and mannerisms, but after 14 books, how could you not.
I love the books (been reading them since high school) and I am really enjoying the show. I have a seriously biased lens, but I think even without the love of the books, the show is worth a watch.
There is a pretty vocal contingent of fans that are not pleased with the adaptation. I'm not saying there aren't legitimate criticisms, because there are, but a big chunk of the one star reviews on Amazon are usually peppered with words like "woke" (which I automatically dismiss) and complaining that it's not a word for word retelling (no kidding).

I was looking for something light and found "Cuckoo" on Netflix. It's about a young British woman who goes to Thailand for her gap year and brings back an American hippie she married. They move in with her parents. Daughter is besotted with him, Mom can see some of his charm, Dad is struggling. Cuckoo (he renamed himself because he realized during a peyote high that he was part of all of nature) fancies himself a thinker and not suited to work in the real world. I'd picked up "Seinfeld" before I started this series and somehow "Seinfeld" is not that funny anymore. well, except the planetarium episode. I could watch that again.

I just finished the 3rd season of You. Very twisted and dark, I couldn't stop watching...totally binged.

Working my way thru Greenleaf which I thought someone on here mentioned but search turns up blank. The plot is involved enough to keep me hooked.

Finished Glee on Tuesday. Jane Lynch MADE that show. She gave her character such depth and dimension.
Then started Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. Very interesting.

I am watching 12 Monkeys on Hulu and how did I miss this show when it was on TV. Awesome so far, but I am only near the end of season 2. I haven't enjoyed anything this much in a while.

Watched The Power of the Dog on Netflix the other night. Dark character drama but well put together. With Benedict Cumberbatch playing a role very out of character for him. He did an excellent job.

Started watching True Story on Netflix. I really like both Kevin Hart and Wesley Snipes. Show seems a bit over the top but it's interesting...

Without adding spoilers to this thread there was one scene where I thought something may be amiss and what might be important a bit later on. Reading articles after watching the movie and found out I was right (based on the book from which the movie is based). I also understood why the character played by Cumberbatch was like he was.

Started watching Stay Close on Netflix. It's probably the 5th or 6th limited series they have had based on books by Harlan Coben. I have read all his books. They seem to do a pretty good job with most of the series. I read he has a deal to make 11 of his books into a Netflix series.

Just watched Don’t Look Up Brilliant piece I think that's coming up soon in my list for myself.
I just finished the queen's gambit.
I usually like to keep up with the oscar best picture nominees and winners. I haven't done that since 2012 or so. The last year I watched most of the oscar nominees was 2010. I'm a little behind on my pop culture.

When the list of the 2022 Oscar nominations are announced, you can sometimes find films in the Best Short Films category on YouTube,

My DH picked that movie the other night. It was weird. I keep reading good reviews, and I just don't see it. 🤷♀️ There were a few unanswered plot pieces by the end of the movie that are left up to the audience to answer for themselves. Without adding spoilers to this thread there was one scene where I thought something may be amiss and what might be important a bit later on. Reading articles after watching the movie and found out I was right (based on the book from which the movie is based). I also understood why the character played by Cumberbatch was like he was. I watch Power of the Dog about a week ago. I suspect/knew what was going with the twist (totally and ONLY due to a novel I read years ago - that made me go down a rabbit hole and that left a lasting impression -- about something that was important to the outcome of the movie). I found the movie tense and disquieting - right from the beginning. and that disquiet stuck with me for a couple of days after the movie . A friend watched the movie before me and didn't like it, didn't understand it, and then read about it online. She said she didn't realize the movie was about what the article said that it was about... (I will admit, I was like "how did you NOT pick up on that about the Cumberbatch character??) She did admit she thought she was in for an "old timey" good fun western - with pretty scenery, gun fights, bar fights and one liners - and only kept watching because she thought it would get better or resolve in a typical "Western Movie" kind of way... So expectations may have clouded her ability to "see" the movie for what it was. (A character drama). I liked the movie - but it's not a movie I would recommend to general audiences. I think the movie plays better if you are in on at least of some tropes and are the kind of person who actually watches the movie (pays attention to scenes and dialogue). Every moment of the movie tells the story (every scene, dialog, music, camera angle, every shadow and placement of stuff sets the mood.) (I did like the nod to John Ford's The Searchers iconic doorway scene that happened at the beginning and the end of Power of the Dog. -- that was my first "tell" this movie wasn't gonna follow a vanilla plot line. )

When you all watch shows for kids with kids (or young adults) as main characters that have high body counts (like Hawkeye or the animated Star Wars shows) and where the characters just kind of "brush off" the deaths of others BUT are totally motivated by "righting the wrong" of the death of a loved one -- do you find that uncomfortable?
As in I get it that the heroes walk away from horrific crashes, explosions, gunfights and hand to hand fights with a few scratches - do you assume the people who are caught in the horrific crashes/explosions and gun fights and hand to had fights also just get knocked unconscious and eventually wake up and walk away from the disaster around them?
I think I've lost my ability to not wonder about the "civilians" in the cars, in the homes/stores, walking on the streets who get crushed, blown up, t-boned, etc or who get caught in explosions or gun fire as the heroes battle the bad guys.
When the characters in the show realize that not just enemy soldiers (who have no family) or bad guys die in wars or in street battles... is that the new trope that shows that character is becoming an adult (even if they have dozens upon dozens of kills in their own background done as a child and don't seem particularly bothered by it)?
I get the idea that heroes killing "nameless/faceless" people is entertaining to watch - I love me some martial arts movies with outrageously high body counts (love those obligatory "corridor" fights.) And the first John Wick movie was awesome to watch. So, I can and do suspend belief (and morality) when watching these kinds of movies. But they also have a kind of "surreal" feel to them - you KNOW the "movie universe" isn't like reality... and the circumstance are so beyond anything in real life....
