Dinner has always been a challenge for me. Since I am gluten free, I have to take my lunch to work. So Monday evenings, I cook enough to have four lunches, usually all the same (I work 4 ten hour days; mondays are my day off). Since I only cook for one, making dinner without resorting to a less healthy standby is tough, and I get bored with the same thing every night (but not the same lunch, go figure). So what I started doing is repacking my meat purchases into single servings before putting them in the freezer. That way, I can just pull out what I want that night and defrost it. Last night, I broiled a tilapia filet. It came out pretty well for a first attempt at cooking fish.

I "forgot" to weigh myself yesterday. I went out Tues night for a friend's bday and then a cast party for Les Mis afterword. Drank quite a bit. Met a boy! We have a date tonight. Unfortunately he will be moving on Sunday. He's part of the cast.
So, I weighed myself this morning 155...up 1.5. Not great.

What did you think of les Mis? A friend went to see it Wednesday night. I'm looking forward to hearing about it tonight (we're both in the handbell choir at church.)

I FINALLY got on the treadmill last night. It felt great. Plus, I went to the grocery store and stocked up on lettuce, spinach, 2 cucumbers, head of cauliflower, brocolli, tomatos and carrots. I could eat salad every day, but DH is wanting to eat better too, so he cleaned and cut the cauliflower and brocolli so it is ready to eat. I also purchased bananas, strawberries and light string cheese. This is all stuff my kids will eat as well. Since I coupon - we can easily afford to buy fresh fruits and veggies - it won't put a ding in our budget.
I should be able to get on the treadmill again tonight, even though I have a million things to do since we are going out of town for the weekend. 25- 30 minutes is worth feeling great.

I did run/jog intervals on the treadmill last night for an hour. And will be walking the dogs at lunch today. I just need to get in a groove for exercising. Les Mis - I actually work at the PAC part time, so I was working Tues night and we're sold out so they didn't offer us comps or a discount. I'm a snob. I won't sit in the cheap sits and can't afford the $94 top price. So I won't be seeing it this time around. I saw the old production years ago. We listened to it in the box office and I could see it on the monitors in the lobby. It sounded amazing and got a great review. We got cast party tickets from the PR office. The bday girl works with me so we moved the party from the bar to the cast party and then drank for free.

Checking in late at 146.6, so I'm on track. I did not eat healthy this week and struggled to eat actual meals. I'm trying to do better this week, but lack of sleep (DF and I switched sides of the bed), snowy weather, and working extra hours (I've gone into the 2nd job every night this week) is damaging my desire to put forth any effort. But it's still a successful week. On to 145 by Tuesday, sigh...

weighed in last night at the gym...180, same as three weeks ago...BOOO!!!!! I don't understand and am getting very frustrated. I mean, I did eat junky on Sat & Sun but am working out more than I ever have and am not drinking anything near what I used to. I logged on to Spark People again and noticed my last weigh in there was in Nov of 2010 and it was 171, so I've gained almost 10 pounds in 5 mos....wth? ?

I just had a work catastrophe, and remedied it with a work all-you-can bakesale. I excpect the weight implications will be catastrophic.

sugary/salty - I really like the sweet & salty nut bars by nature valley. And now they make one that has dark chocolate bits in it. Filled with nuts and the bottom is coated with peanut butter. 170 calories, 8 grams of fat. It's like a candy bar but (sort of) good for you.

I don't think I've had the dark chocolate ones. I'm really bored at work today. I think that's a big part of the craving. I do tend to eat when I'm bored.

Fiber one also has some good "satisfy sweets" snack. A lot of their bars are only 90 calories...I believe one of them has chocolate in it too.
As much as I've said it b4, I need to stop weighing myself...there's a scale right outside my door, so it's so tempting. But like the others, I can't understand what's going on. I've been working out and I have gained 2 pounds. It could be muscle, could be water retention, but whenever I tell myself that, it seems like an excuse
Clothes are fitting better, so I'm going with that from now on...that's really been my goal all along, I really don't mind the number on the scale as long as look good.

I gained three pounds since my last weigh-in last week so am at 160. I visited my doctor, had a blood test and it looks like my thyroid is underactive. I walked across downtown Vancouver three times on Tuesday, and thought maybe that'd burn some calories; then on Wednesday I went on the Seawall. I'm looking for kelp and bladderwrack today and starting again on progesterone. This is my birthday week so I did have some desserts and my monthly pop. Drinking mostly water w/Vitamin C & B-complex.
Update: started taking coconut oil twice daily, and ingesting nettles/dong quai/red raspberry leaf/sarsparilla root tea and green tea, juice w/flaxseeds, juice w/spirulina, and still lots of water Aborted progesterone as I got a surprise, will wait for the end of the week.
The coconut oil and the flaxseed meal are to counter the estrogen dominance that's both causing the rapid weight gain and depressing the thyroid activity. The medium-chain fatty acids give me more energy and burn the fat stored in the abdomen; the flaxseed has fiber, protein and alpha-linolenic acid.
Also, I have walking partners around my neighbourhood now! All I had to do was tell two women walking down my street I was fat and depressed and needed to exercise.

Today was my session with my personal trainer. Her name is Rachel and she put me through Rachel's Wringer which is what these tortuous sessions will be referred to from now on! I was shocked and amazed at how hard it was for me to get through that 1 hour session. As most of you know, I had an awful lung surgery in 2008 and the recover from that took a long time. Since then I have had a very sedentary lifestyle between work, commute and laziness. I got rid of the commute on Jan 31, 2011 and I really want to lose the 30 lbs that have I have accumulated. I have zero stamina and EVERY muscle hurts...especially the ones that were cut in the surgery. There is nothing I can do but work through it and stay the course. It is VERY hard for me because I used to be very slim and athletic. Wow! What a difference three years can make. So, the good news is that my official weigh-in tonight was 190.6...which is MINUS 3.4 lbs from two weeks ago. Considering this last week I have been AWFUL and made alot of bad choices...I am happy with that. I was shocked to see that it went down to tell you the truth. My next goal is minus 2 lbs by next Thursday. OH. My trainer and I both agreed that I will not push myself through the pain by myself so we are working out together twice per week for the next few weeks. Tues and Thurs but my weigh ins will be Thursdays. Have Mercy on this little fat kitty!!

Have any of you tried Sandwich Thins? They are round slices of bread for sandwiches and are about 100 calories for two slices. I use those to take sandwiches to work and I love them. I get the whole wheat slices and they are yummy.

I'm not sure if sandwich thins is what I buy or not, but the whole wheat sandwich bread I buy- when I rarely buy it is 3 little slices for very few calories. And soft and yummy too! I tend to like things like pitas and tortillas and flatbreads though.

Wow ladies! You are amazingly disciplined! I hope by joining this group I can get there too. I am currently 175 lbs. My long-term goal is to get to and keep with 130 and 135. My short term goal is simply to get more active and eat less. I've struggled with even just maintaining my weight this past year. I've been seeing the doctor for back pain, and we've finally ruled out everything other than arthritis. I saw the physical therapist yesterday for the first time, so we'll work to correct the problems of my muscles not relaxing properly so that I can feel more comfortable exercising, which with arthritis which actually help to ease the pain as well. I have a very tight schedule and have a difficult time making room for exercise without either feeling guilty or cutting into other important priorities. I'm hoping to start getting motivated and moving so that when I'm done with my masters and CPA exam this summer I will already have laid the groundwork to get even more active and dedicated to losing the weight I've gained. I also struggle with saying no. My fiancee moved in with me this year from our home state and hasn't been able to find work yet. He takes his job of caring for our home very seriously, and I struggle to request changes to his fabulous cooking. I'm getting better, but have a long way to go, at eating smaller portions. He's getting a little better at not pushing seconds on me. So I think those are my major challenges to overcome. I've lost weight before. When my son was a toddler, I gained a lot of weight when I was having problems with his father. When we stopped living together, I pulled myself together and lost the same weight I'm trying to lose now. So I know I can do it, now I just need to get moving, build a support network, and accomplish my goals!

I weighed in this morning at 165! I'm very, very happy about that! I started trying to lose weight the second week of March, so, I think it's great progress. My starting weight was 172. I had already had breakfast and coffee before I weighed myself, so, it might be lower than that! It really needs to warm up here in the NE cuz none of my jeans/long pants fit me anymore! I have plenty of spring and summer clothes in the next size down so I am anxiously awaiting being able to wear them!

constanz- I know what you mean- I am in between sizes right now and am going nuts! And I refuse to buy clothes. I can't wait until we are done these projects at my grandmother's so I can get back to a normal schedule. I think my weight loss will speed up then.

My weight is slowly creeping downward, I am at 163.8. Down .2 pounds from last Thursday.
I really want to get to 163.6 -- another .2 pounds. Why do I want this specific weight (or less than that)? I check my BMI number along with my weight, and when I reach 163.6 I will be considered "overweight" and no longer "obese" by BMI numbers. Not that "overweight" is where I want to be, but it's a milestone I want to reach, that I haven't been at for a long time.
I am trying not to weigh myself every day, only maybe 1-2 times per week, so I think I will weigh in tomorrow and hopefully I will say goodbye to the "obese" BMI category, and join the ranks of the "overweight". Then onward and downward to achieving "Normal weight".

I had a very tempting weekend. All the ham and eggs and sweets were hard to avoid. I ate just a little of all of the really bad/good things so I wouldn't feel deprived. I let DD eat the ears off the chocolate bunnies this year. With church and family family stuff I didn't have much time to work out. I think I made up for that today, however, when I spent the afternoon digging holes for fence posts. Mun- I am also right on the edge of obese and overweight on BMI charts right now. Maybe if I was just a little taller...

I missed the lunch spinning class but I made the 5:30 class. I survived 35 minutes (which is plus 5 minutes from previous classes) and went a total of 12.5 miles. I managed to do the first set of "jumps" and sprints but could only pedal at a brisk pace the rest of the time. I ALMOST didn't go but I'm glad I did. Mr. Cat was in the gym playing racquetball and after his first game he came to check on me. He likes that I am making the effort and that is what keeps me going...especially on days like today when I just want to crawl under the covers. Tomorrow is personal training at 5 pm....after the last session I had to go straight to bed so we will see how bad tomorrow is. It sure is hard battling my way back to the top. Good thing I have cat climbing gear! Munjoy and Mpd: I am right there on that line between over weight and obese I can't wait to get to normal again also!!! Keep up the good work ladies!

I weighed myself this morning. 150.5....down 4.5 lbs. I did a dvd, walked the dogs and ran on the treadmill Saturday, but most of it's because of not eating much. I'm dealing with some depression stuff right now. I'm sure the number will be back up once I start eating normal again. I wish it would stop raining.

And the walking partners are great! I forced myself to treadmill this morning for 1 mile/21 minutes. I'm torn between building up speed or time.

I was not good about eating this weekend and I didn't exercise 2 of the 4 days I was home. I play in my church's handbell choir and from Wednesday to Sunday, I spent about 11 hours there, practicing or playing during Mass. Does that count as exercise? I'm mostly standing and swinging bells... Rain rain go away. There's water in my basement. I think the chimney is leaking.
