When I was having problems with my gallblader my mom was on a broccoli kick (again)- everytime she decided to cremate some in the microwave- I had to go hide in my bedroom while they aired out the kitchen My favorite way to have broccoli is either out of a chinese food box or in a broco-slaw type app. I take the shredded brocco-slaw and dress it in a viniagrette or saute it lightly.

168.5. I was in the low 160's before getting married, which is pretty good for someone my height.
I'll be going off Medifast next week since it doesn't mesh well with other 'efforts', and will be trying to stick with lean meat and vegetables. Wish me luck ladies.

Officially at 129! I'm so happy to be out of the 130's! I am feeling so much better about myself now that I'm not carrying around those 16 extra pounds! I am not happy with the way I've lost it (I have barely been eating anything), but I just haven't been hungry, and making myself eat when I'm not hungry seems so counter-productive. I haven't been purposely starving myself, if I get hungry, I eat, but I'm at maybe 800-1000 calories a day at best. Yesterday was a grapefruit, some cheese and crackers, a chocolate milk, and an english muffin. That's it for the whole day. I am going to try to do better today, with fewer carbs and more veggies. I use to eat mostly vegetables, but it seems lately that I am on a mostly carb diet, which isn't good for my health (esp. since everyone in my family has diabetes!).

Everything is better with Parm! Well, the good news is that I'm down 2.5 pounds from last Friday, when I did a quick unauthorized weight check (I can only check once a week or I go bonkers with the weight yoyo). However, I'm still at 235 on Sunday. My foot will hopefully be better this week so I can start exercising again - having given the Halloween candy away should help too! Congrats on the weight loss! 2.5 pounds is a lot!

Woohoo. Finally I am down 20 pounds!!! This morning I was 175.6 which makes 20.4 pounds since July 19 when I was 196.
Welcome Seahorse!
Frugalnurse Yippee, that is so nice to say good bye to 130's. I go through those phases to, but agree that it is not a good way to lose weight.
Turbothumper- I'm impressed with your results.
Former- Good luck transitioning off (What is medifast?)

MN-Invester 172½ lbs 11/10/11 (226 lbs. 4/14/11)
Down 1¾ pounds from last week.
I bought a size 16 pair of Lee jeans on sale at Kohl's yesterday. I know, Lee jeans run large. But I don't care! Last year I was wearing a size 24W Lee slacks. I've lost 4 pant sizes! Now I just wish I could lose more on top. I was mostly wearing a women's 3X last year. Now I'm wearing a 2X. I want to get down to misses sizes on top too.

Doesn't that suck MN? I've always been top-heavy, even when I was skinny. My bff finally decided I have a large rib cage w/ boobs (I'm usually a C cup.)

I hope that everything with DGM goes okay. You are one amazing bear and don't ever forget it!! Work bought pizza for lunch for us today. Thankfully it was thin crust. Have a great, healthy weekend everyone!!

Medifast is one of those diet plans where you pay for some overpriced food. www dot medifast1 dot com According to the plan, you eat 5 100 calorie medifast meals and then one 300 calorie 'Lean and Green' meal that you make yourself for a total of 800 calories a day. I thought that was nuts and wasn't about to reduce my caloric intake that much, so I had plain greek yogurt for breakfast, 5 medifast meals, and 2 lean and green meals and still lost 1-3 lbs a week. I also broke the diet pretty much every weekend. I was a space cadet for the first 3 days and hungry all the time for the first week or two, but other than that, this diet has been pathetically easy to keep. One thing this diet did accomplish was to keep my blood sugar stable (I'm reactive hypoglycemic) and has reduced my 'teenaged boy' appetite to normal levels. I was never much of a dieter, since letting my blood sugar drop is unpleasant and dangerous, and never would have bothered if my doctor had not recommended it. I'll let you know if I keep the weight off. Right now, I'm pursuing something that is not compatable with rapid weight loss .

WI Beth: Love the name change.
I am seriously an emotional eater. That is why I am where I am at. While I am trying to lose weight my autistic son has a lot of issues. Seriously he is a lot of the reason I am heavy. Now I find he had major dental issues and has to go under anesthesia to have all the work done. It may be crowns on his baby teeth. I feel like such a failure....

Dear Losers,
I need to join up here. I need some motivation to lose about 25 pounds. I am not at my all-time heaviest but I am approaching it. The WIR Racers work for me so I am hoping this will motivate me as well.
I have some questions for you. I have only read a few pages back from here but it seems that some of you weigh about once a week, some more. How often does the group encourage stepping on the scale and reporting the results here? Are you all doing it with calories in vs. calories out (low fat, low cal, exercise) or some other diet (low carb, South Beach, Atkins, diabetic)? Or are you doing whatever personally works for you?
I have come to the conclusion that carbs are my downfall. WHY did I buy that gigantic bag of Halloween candy at Sam's and then eat the whole thing??? Why is my fridge loaded with carbs carbs carbs? Not to mention my pantry.
So my starting weight is 153.0. Would be thrilled to be in the 120s again. Lower end of the 120s would thrill me to pieces!
Oddly, the weight I have gained is part of a natural resetting after a life event caused me to stress out so much I was losing about 5 pounds a week. The doctor put an end to that and got me to at least eat Lean Cuisines from time to time. In the middle of this I had an attack of diverticulitis (hospital stay but no surgery, thankfully). So now I need to get plenty of fiber in my diet. When I think fiber, I think carbs. To work off some of the stress I exercised (by running) most days. The weight started to come back on, but I was eating, and I was fit. Then I trained for a half marathon, and figured I could eat more because I was burning more. The running is over after a knee injury and two foot surgeries. Oh, and in the middle of all this my sister (skinny minnie) had a heart attack and then a stroke. She's okay but as my doctor says, at that point my family history went from bad to horrible. So that is always in the back of my mind. Healthy eating is the way to go.
So. Long post, sorry. Anyway, any pointers you ladies can give me are most appreciated.

Ok, I'm going to do it. I'm getting ready to drive down to the YMCA and join the gym! DH thinks it is a waste of money, but I don't care, I just can't motivate myself to workout at home. I will tone this body and build these muscles, so I don't throw out my back at work like most of my coworkers do!

Seriousthistime- Congrats on making the decision to slim down, and resolving to be serious about it! Don't beat yourself up too much over you past mistakes, just try to do your best each times you eat, but forgive yourself if you aren't always perfect about it. Getting bent out of shape over breaking your diet at one meal is what leads many people to just say "well, I already broke the diet, might as well pig out!" and then you never get back on track.

Mittenkitten- I am an emotional eater too. When I'm upset or stressed I usually want nothing but high fat, high sugar content foods! I have found it helps to drink a nonfat latte when I'm wanting junk food. The caffiene lifts my moods and it is an appetite supressant, all for around 150 calories, so it is a win-win.

Seriousthistime, fiber isn't digested by your body, so it can't count as carbs. And fiber soaks up fat, which is good for your cholesterol. Those refined carbs (bread, pasta, white potatoes, etc) are a very different animal than the complex carbs you get from eating lots of vegetables. You really can't go wrong sticking to a diet of decent sized portions of lean meat and non starchy vegetables. I find that many vegetables, like cabbage and spinach, that I find yucky when raw or fully cooked are delicious when cooked int he microwave until they wilt.

Ugghhh! Bad weekend. 3 b-day parties, 2 of them I did okay at. The other one, I'm estimating at about 4000 calories. It was at an Italian restaurant and they brought out plates of apps (Fried calamari, fried ravioli, fried eggplant, stuffed artichokes with butter and garlic). I probably drank a bottle of wine by myself, plus salad, dinner and cheesecake for dessert. Anyway I was up 3 pounds this AM. I'm drinking tons of water, because I feel really puffy.
Welcome Serious! I weigh in every day, but usually only post on Tuesday and Fridays. (I felt the need to confess my over indulgence today) I am doing low cal 1400-1600 cals a day and exercise. I do 45-1 hour on the elliptical at the gym 4 times a week. Next week I'll be starting strength training with a personal trainer, so I don't injure myself. I use sparkpeople to track my food and exercise (I don't use their menu plans, just input what I eat.)
Personally I prefer my veggies raw for the most part.

Seriousthistime- Maybe you would try saving the carb portion of your meal for the end. Fill your plate up with at least 1/2 veggies, 1/4 lean protein (and it doesn't have to be meat- there are lots of delicious bean recipes out there!), 1/4 fruit, and then eat the bread/mashed potatoes/whatever last. You might find that you're too full for it.

Zib- I get motivated by thinking about the health benefits of exercise and eating right. I enjoy the way losing weight makes me look, but also how it makes me feel. I see the results of ignoring your health every day at work, and it isn't pretty. Heart disease, liver disease, diabetes, etc. are real, and they will eventually happen if you aren't proactive about living a healthy lifestyle. That's what motivates me.

Motivates me: Fitting into a smaller size. Getting to the healthiest me I can be, so that I can find a SO who values his health as well and we would be on the same page. (I would have to be committed if I lost another SO prematurely.) LIFE! I want it! A long one! The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I want to be sane. My gut. I want it GONE!! Quotes that run through my brain: "If you aren't happy with your life, change it." "You are the only one responsible for your happiness." "If you want something to change, you have to change what you do." "You become the sum total of your decisions. Decide to become great!" Pride. The sense of accomplishment is something that makes me feel proud. I ate good all day today. I'm proud of myself. I stayed within my budget. Proud. I sent my 2nd job income off to savings and debt immediately not giving myself a chance to spend it. Proud. The day that I step on the scale and met my weekly/short term/long term goal: PROUD!!!

My motivation is looking good, feeling good, and being able to do the things I used to do. Between the weight gain, the pregnancies and the inactivity, I got to the point where I couldn't even walk a mile without throwing out my back. It was utterly pathetic and I don't want to go back to that.

My motivation? My weight loss was kick started after a visit to my doctor this spring. Health issues were starting to appear, and the doctor told me that the easiest way to control those issues would be to lose weight. That was the final straw for me. I've hated the way I've looked for years. I was such a skinny kid. Now I weighed 230+, I wore size 24W slacks and 3x women's tops. ICK!!!
There was also a major family reunion coming up in late July and I would see cousins that I hadn't seen in years, and be in lots of family photos.
I've always been a big eater of salty snacks and chocolate. I knew that I couldn't cut them out completely, so I found lower calorie, higher fiber alternative salty snacks. And stopped buying the bags of Hershey's Kisses, and instead bought peanut butter M&M's. While I still have my salty snacks and sweets, I eat a LOT less of them, and more fruits and veggies.
For me, it works best to weigh daily. It keeps me focused. I report here on Thursdays. I'm still stunned that I've managed to lose, as of this morning, 60.5 pounds from my recorded high of 233. I'm now wearing a size 16 jeans and 2x women's top. [My DH is my biggest supporter, but he's also said that I have no ass left!]
At the family reunion this summer I weighed 197 pounds, down 36 pounds from my high. I was so proud of my accomplishment. But not a single person noticed or commented. And I sure wasn't going to point it out! So that provided additional motivation. I was just curious how much I would have to lose before somebody noticed. My brother was the first relative, in a weekend in September when we had supper together. I was down 48 pounds then. FINALLY someone noticed!
Two things are motivating me right now. First, I don't want to have to buy clothes in the women's department. I want to be able to shop in every women's clothing store. I haven't been able to do that in years! And, second, I'll be seeing some of my relatives at Christmas who I haven't seen since this summer. I want this weight loss to be obvious! I would dearly love to lose another 10 pounds by then. I want to buy some new clothes for the holidays!
Reporting my weight each week here also motivates me. Losses are a lot more fun to report than gains!

My scale hates me. Or my body is in starvation mode because I haven't felt like eating much. 199.2 I have an appointment with the doctor today. I know things will get easier with losing weight now (snarky as this may sound) because I am not answering the demands of 50 different people. I have to focus on that.

mizbear- Are you eating better? Exercising more? If so, then your are doing great! Even if the scale is moving as quickly as you'd like, you are making changes to improve your health and lengthen your life, which is great! Your body will start to respond better, and you'll hit a stride where you lose a lot really quickly, you just have to keep it up!
You (and all the people on this board) are doing an awesome job at living healthier lives! And just remember that each healthy choice you make is a step in the right direction! Celebrate your discipline and your good choices, even if you can't yet celebrate the number on the scale!
