Well, 300K came and went... faster than I thought (as in it took 3 days for 10K more people to die in the USofA)
I have to admit, Americans are really good at dying of Covid19 (or complications of Covid19). I would think our current administration and it's supporters would be PROUD! of the effort so many Americans put forth to achieve this goal.
<yeah, that's sarcasm and a bit of a parody>

We seem to be on track to hit 350K deaths by December 31st. 329500 dead as of today (and the day is not over.) I'm guessing the number of deaths isn't going to go down any time soon. With so many more people getting/spreading the virus.

500k by the end of winter as a minimum, basically the one year anniversary of the acknowledgement that this is a national crisis

6 months ago, I flippantly mentioned that 1M might die in a discussion with oldcoyote. he responded with incredulity.
well, now the UOW estimate is 567,000. by April 1st. based on the consistent upward movement of this estimate, and the fact that it is only through April 1st, my maximum number of killed is starting to look fairly realistic.
I am not inspired to raise it. YET. but it no longer seems terribly improbable to me.

I don’t think we will get to 1 million, though it won’t be due to lack of effort. We will likely hit 6-700 k by summer, and the numbers will be trending downwards. By the time they head back up, we will hopefully have vaccinated a significant portion of the population, so the peak next fall/winter will be blunted, and we will settle a little under that number

I agree that the victimhood has gone way over the top. I've got a couple of old friends who've been practically screaming on Facebook how Christians are being victimized. The temporary closure of churches, etc. (never mind that many businesses have been closed, too). Also, both of them complained that being forced to wear a mask "violated their freedom", and they'd frequently post pictures of themselves in public places NOT wearing a mask. Of course, you KNOW what happened. They both got COVID. And, they were lucky enough to survive it with minimal problems, although one is now complaining of hair loss (one problem that some COVID patients have had), but of course she doesn't know how THAT happened. They just claim that COVID is one big hoax. And no, I never imagined I would personally know anyone who would be a COVID denier. They're just being victimized by the government, yanno...

I was just contemplating:
in theory: there are better ways to treat Covid19 if you wind up in the hospital - so more people are recovering from serious illness. Covid19 is spreading quickly so there are MORE people getting it. and finally, the number of deaths has gone up (back to what it was when we didn't have good ways to treat people, and fewer new cases per day.).
My gosh. If we didn't have some treatments for those who are hospitalized that help - think about the death count!
And then, think about how deadly the virus is WITH treatments that help some who get it survive it.
::shudder::

As of this morning: 341597, so that's 8403 away from 350K.
We've got 4 days... til the end of the year. So, 2100 deaths per day would get us to 350,000 deaths for 2020. I think we will make that number. Go USA! MAGA!

pulmonarymd: saw this on Facebook and am wondering what your professional opinion is on the advice. Good, bad, or mixed. It is long and there is no link from Facebook for me to post only part of it.

A lot of nonsense. Azithromycin does not work, steroids do. Prone positioning works. Changing positions, getting up to walk around works, if you can. A minority of patients get diarrhea, symptomatic treatment is all we have for that. BRAT diet also helps. If you have low oxygen or severe diarrhea, hospitalization is necessary, but otherwise there is no value to it.

Well, this virus just became real. I'll tell you, if it takes Maureen McCormick too I'm done.

A bridge too far ADDED: my new year resolution is to drop the sarcasm. Sorry about this... it's just all snarky sarcasm that truly sounds awful. Meh, it's only one politician. Look at all the others that have had it and didn't die from it. Losing one politician doesn't really change anything. I'm betting they are more upset about the all the money spent getting the guy into office and how they have to start over. I expect Covid19 won't be a political party problem until a handful or two of elected officials die within a short-ish period of time (say a year). That probably messes up their long term plans.

That looks a bit corrupted Ours is going on age and medical need.... but healthcare workers and and other key workers (prison officers, police officers) will be moved up. but it will be scrutinised
I think there would be a public outcry if there was any cronyism.
