I still suggest everyone stock up as much as possible and also have money on hand. It's not going to be pretty out there. Hubs thinks I'm silly about having guns, I do not. That's exactly what they're telling us not to do. That's why store shelves are empty.

Your choice, I did, and will keep my stash topped off. I'm not about to run out of anything right now if I can help it. but I have been keeping my stash stocked up for a long time so nothing new to me.

Also trying to decide about donations. We're down an insane amount of money, but still have much more than others. I need to figure out where donating will do the most good.
I'm thinking the same thing. I'm sure, as the weeks go on, newspapers and websites will be publishing lists of suggested charities. Off the top of my head, I would think that a local food shelf would be the perfect place to start.

So far I've only increased my regular donations to the local hospital and the local volunteer fire department. The animal shelter published an Amazon wish list for things like food and cat litter as they have suspended adoptions for the time being and have more animals to care for, so I've been doing that. (Our shelter is no-kill, so they'll be safe, just a little more crowded). Food banks are a good idea, too, and also shelters for people escaping domestic violence since they might be seeing an uptick in clients with people stuck at home with their abusers and everybody under extra stress.

One Simple Wish helps kids graduated out of foster care and right now a lot of them need housing and laptops to continue distance learning so I donated to that fund.

I live in a neighborhood with a lot of low income seniors. I've been grabbing thier groceries when I get mine and forgetting to grab their money. I have a small stockpile, they don't. I can afford to help them for a while.

Much different situation than you are in.

I went by the restaurant twice today to donate my check. They were not open, I thought they were remodeling, now I'm wondering if they moved, will check this week.
I was out to 3 or 4 places. I wore a mask. In the small town I bought MIL a rocker, now found out they don't want anything with cloth covering, damn. Her recliner is cloth. So have to relook that situation. Went to Walmart, several of us had masks, washed hands with sanitizer each time I got in the car. At Walmart slim pickings, looking for elastic, nope, got DD a box of cereal, her new electric toothbrush. One small package of All pods, to topoff my box. It was pretty cleaned out, just a few boxes of cereal and a bit of this and that.
Hubs went with us to the city, he had to get an item for the house. I went into Hobby Lobby, no elastic, got a threader, washed hands again. To Joanns, found some 3/8" elastic in black, can put the elastic across the back if need be. There were lots of people in there and lined up to have fabric cut, no social distancing. They now have 2 cases in that city, not one person had a mask on but me. These people are thumbing their nose at it. trump supporters they don't believe it. Washed hands again.
Back to our smaller town, dropped off hubs. To grocer 2 containers of ice cream, seemed to be plenty of it. Limited to 1 of milk and bread, I got bread, caramel and butterscotch syrup and butter pecan and vanilla ice cream, I'm surprised but plenty of those. Also a dozen eggs. One man wanted 2 milks, I told him Walmart had quite a bit, he didn't want to drive down there, really. No masks in there. Washed my hands again. Would not let DD eat out. I got a drink at the grocer that I could get myself, she and I shared, we came home. Not planning on being out again for awhile. Hubs said you have been gone daily, now I was home 3 days out of 5, 1 to town, and today. Came in and washed my hands with soap and water again, I'm becoming obsessive. I would not let DD go in anyplace, she did not care. But at least she got out for a bit.
Was in and watching telly, one renter calls. She can't find flour anywhere, I told her last week get what she needed it could get sketchy, she had called all over, they were going to make pancakes. I told her would give them a 5 pound bag. He came and got it, but no more. Yes I have maybe 20 to 25 more pounds I think. Need to go check in the freezer and make sure. Like hubs said that is the basis for lots of food. People are just now starting to understand what is happening. I did not say I had more but some wheat but after being ground could only use to make certain kinds of bread, that is true, actually. I gave her white flour. She would have no clue how to make bread. I'm not sure what the people like them are going to do. She did say she had some canned goods and some meat. I think they used to eat all their meals out and finally figured out that cost to much. Now it begins. There does seem to be a scarcity starting. Is it hoarding, I don't know, or actual cleaning out of some warehouses. Everything now is just in time inventory, is food too?

Ask my family and my kids -- I'm a real pushover when it comes to my kids.
However, if my kids went on spring break and acted as irresponsibly as these kids -- I would -- no joke...Tell them don't bother coming home. I can't believe how selfish these kids are being. My brother said he would have acted the same way they are acting. Uh no. I guess I was a Pollyanna as a youth... I hope no parents financially supported these kids on spring break. I heard the Governor of Florida didn't close down the beaches, but thankfully the local governments finally did. Unbelievable. I don't want to hear "but their brains don't develop till they're 25...."

My question is ............. WHERE ARE THEIR PARENTS?
The only thing my nephew received from his parents is a plane ticket home. His college in Wisconsin is closed except for online classes.

Some of the kids showed up anyway, apparently unconcerned about the virus, and more concerned about their tans. Beaches here and to the south of us have been closed, and beaches to the next counties north finally did when their first cases of the virus appeared.
And it's also about tourist dollars, especially in the Panhandle, hard-hit by Hurricane Michael. That area has not really recovered and this pandemic might kill off what little recovery there has been, if there are no spring break tourists. But I agree on closing it down, if we are to slow down the virus spread. And these kids will survive not having a tan. I mean, who are they going to show it to, since school is likely cancelled for the rest of the year and social distancing is in effect?

regrettable - but young people being careless and self-involved is not a new thing. They are adults. And there have been plenty of older adults being stupid about this too. Like this dummy: www.kentucky.com/news/health-and-medicine/article241200076.htmlGlad the locales are shutting it down. Should have from the get go.
