I just realized that the zombie flu outbreak in Max Brook's World War Z started in a rural area of China. Hmmm... you know that "science" has indicated that the likely hood of a pandemic would be out of China (or Africa or India) right? Since like the 1950's , right? Using China as the start of a pandemic is a bit like casting the Russians as the bad guys in most American books/movies since the 50s. It's kind of the "obvious" or "most likely" thing to do.

Yeah, it’s the places where people encroach on what used to be wild places. Still it’s more fun to imagine Max Brooks is some kind of wizard. Or that he started the virus as a marketing ploy. Bet 4 Chan is all over that already. Actually 4chan thinks this is some kind of elaborate cover to hide the arrest of Oprah for running a child sex ring. I shit you not.

Is it my imagination or has Dr. Fauci been absent from the last two daily updates starring trump.
And speaking of trump, he is a terrible speaker at these daily updates. His voice expresses as much empathy for Americans as does a roll of concertina wire.

Dr Fauci was the only one up there that I trust to tell the truth.

10000 new cases in the US today.
at this rate, we will overrun China and Italy in about a week.
edit: Italy and Switzerland passed 1000 cases per million today, as well.

I know they are tracking everything pretty closely, but it seems like you could get a low daily number of new cases by just not testing in one place that day. I'm sure that would get out, but I still kinda feel like we are getting the numerator, but not the denominator.

What kind of covidiot is this? A Louisiana church hosted more than 1,800 people at its Sunday morning service, going against state and federal guidelines for social distancing to hold the service. Pastor Tony Spell says the Life Tabernacle Church in Central believes in the “healing hand of Jesus,” even through an aggressive global pandemic. Throughout the service, parishioners were seen touching each other and closely gathering, with very few of them wearing masks or gloves. Twenty-six buses were used to pick people up from around the Baton Rouge area to take them to church. Spell said if anyone in his congregation is infected with the virus, he will “heal them through God.” www.kctv5.com/louisiana-pastor-defies-coronavirus-orders-holds-church-service-for-people/article_2bd13da8-cf2e-5961-8c6d-8a2573250dbc.html

Apparently none of those God fearing people have bothered to read the Old Testament. Plagues are kinda God's thing when he gets pissed enough at us.

We all know that nothing bad ever happens to faithful Christians. They never get in a car accident. Their babies never get cancer. They never get divorced. So, they will surely be safe from Covid.

Italy's rate is falling and so is Germany's ... we UK are in Lock Down and expecting it to go up in the next couple of weeks. Italy's rate is atrocious, and so is Germany's.
the UK's is the worst.
www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/03/21/upshot/coronavirus-deaths-by-country.html
the rate, in terms of log rate, IS decreasing ALMOST EVERYWHERE. the problem is that the rate, in terms of absolute numbers, is NOT decreasing ANYWHERE, with a couple of exceptions: South Korea and China.
in the US, the death count is doubling every 3 days, and there is no attenuation in it at all. at this rate, we will have 64000 dead in 3 weeks.
of course, it could go poof, like magic, as Trump says. but that is not what the math says.

"Louisiana governor says his state has the fastest growth rate of coronavirus cases in the world"
false.
Georgia and NY have a higher rate of growth.
the UK has higher growth. so does France. so does Indonesia.
it would really be nice if we could just look at the numbers.
the numbers are inarguable, imo.
but I guess lying is the way to pass along information these days.
as they say in Russia, the fish rots from the head down.

The press took notice of Dr. Fauci's absence yesterday from trump's press conference. Trump Has Given Unusual Leeway to Fauci, but Aides Say He’s Losing His PatiencePresident Trump has praised Dr. Anthony S. Fauci as a “major television star.” He has tried to demonstrate that the administration is giving him free rein to speak. And he has deferred to Dr. Fauci’s opinion several times at the coronavirus task force’s televised briefings. But Dr. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984, has grown bolder in correcting the president’s falsehoods and overly rosy statements about the spread of the coronavirus in the past two weeks — and he has become a hero to the president’s critics because of it. And now, Mr. Trump’s patience has started to wear thin. So has the patience of some White House advisers, who see Dr. Fauci as taking shots at the president in some of his interviews with print reporters while offering extensive praise for Mr. Trump in television interviews with conservative hosts. Mr. Trump knows that Dr. Fauci, who has advised every president since Ronald Reagan, is seen as credible with a large section of the public and with journalists, and so he has given the doctor more leeway to contradict him than he has other officials, according to multiple advisers to the president. Complete article here: Trump Has Given Unusual Leeway to Fauci, but Aides Say He’s Losing His Patience

I'll refer you back to the post/link in reply #149
Trump or any other president would of been able to do little.
You continue to ignore the point. We could have prepared better, so we would not be scrambling for necessary equipment. Face masks, gloves, and gowns could have been stockpiled, or plans to have them made could have been made. We had 6 weeks to prepare. What was done to do so at the national level. Leaving this up to individual hospitals and states was a mistake. No matter how much you try to deflect doesn’t change that. It’s not his fault that it’s here, but the lack of planning is So do you. My point is the global transportation system. The blame game that follows, for political opportunism, doesn't interest me very much. Your ignorance in the limits of primary fabrication is showing. So what should we be stockpiling for our next emergency ?

That's the same thing I read. I sometimes don't know who to believe any more. My first thought was where would the WHO get such huge funding to supply these things world-wide. presumably the US, since we are a member of that organization, right?
Would have no qualms paying our share.

Another president would have had a pandemic team already in place. Another president would have said "Yes" to the test kits from WHO. Another president would have instituted testing on the scale of South Korea from the beginning. Another president would have assigned a scientist/doctor to lead the response. Another president would have been honest with the country from the very beginning. Another president would have worried less about the stock market and more about peoples' lives. Most democrats do see this as a juicy political opportunity. Hind sight is easy, anyone can do it.

I agree with all of your sentiments except for this one. Has there ever been a president who has been 100% honest with the country? More honest than Trump, yes, but honest? IMO, it's not the POTUS' job to be honest. I don't want to hear about covert missions or decisions that the position has to make on a hourly basis.

Science has indicated that a pandemic from a novel virus can start anywhere. It takes an efficient transportation system to make it happen. You might want to take note that there are no plans in the discussion, on how to do anything with the virus delivery system.

Uh, huh.
Especially since I made it clear quite some time back on the transportation issue, and that's what's really at fault for this,
My stance; ymam.proboards.com/post/3098531/thread
Both posts in that link.
. Still on that. That is not the argument. Since you are a smart guy, I know you can understand that. Still refusing to answer the question. But if you criticize tha governor, the president deserves blame Guess why I criticized the governor, to you. The global mass transportation network is the only reason it's here. Anything else would be a secondary delaying tactic for the inevitable.

At least the initial spread would be slow. But, I guess it would really pick up steam once it took root.
