No I was answering you ridiculous comment about Cuomo. So again, if you criticize Cuomo, you really have to criticize trump, since he is president Uh, huh.
Especially since I made it clear quite some time back on the transportation issue, and that's what's really at fault for this,
Again, it’s getting here is not the issue. It is his response which is poor. Do you believe that a leader sets the tone or not. If he treated it as a serious concern at the beginning, do you think we could have had a solution to the shortage of protective equipment for healthcare workers, a plan for a potential shortage of ventilators, and a quicker turnaround on testing? Instead he basically told the states to figure it out themselves. Great leadership

Depends on the country, and the maturity of the outbreak, DJ. I have seen some as low as 0.6% and Italy’s seem th be north of 5%. So many variables to really know. Characteristics of a population will turn out to be important for mortality, and we know that Italy has an older population. Also if you have widespread testing, you will find a larger number of mild cases. When we look at influenza cases, since we don’t test everybody, an important statistic is weekly visits for acute respiratory illnesses. When they spike, we know we have an epidemic. All numbers for flu are approximate but based on models with good reliability. yeah, I am just asking if the WHO has crunched the numbers yet.
probably not. it is rapidly becoming data chaotic.
Wouldn’t really trust them if they did. You have looked at our numbers, we are early in the epidemic, so our deaths are only a small number versus our number of cases. Unfortunately, we will likely see a few days like Italy. Our mortality will then “catch up”. Getting to a more mature place, with larger numbers will give us a better idea

You continue to ignore the point. We could have prepared better, so we would not be scrambling for necessary equipment. Face masks, gloves, and gowns could have been stockpiled, or plans to have them made could have been made. We had 6 weeks to prepare. What was done to do so at the national level. Leaving this up to individual hospitals and states was a mistake. No matter how much you try to deflect doesn’t change that. It’s not his fault that it’s here, but the lack of planning is

It’s obvious New York is testing now. 12,000+ new cases so far today... Those numbers must have been wrong? Second time something in Worldometer cite was corrected that I saw. In the last few days. It’s like half that now?

Another president would have had a pandemic team already in place. Another president would have said "Yes" to the test kits from WHO. Another president would have instituted testing on the scale of South Korea from the beginning. Another president would have assigned a scientist/doctor to lead the response. Another president would have been honest with the country from the very beginning. Another president would have worried less about the stock market and more about peoples' lives.

Great leadership he also gave the impression that it was no big deal. and he continues to do so by suppressing the stats and telling us that there is some imminent cure, neither of which are helping the effort to contain this thing.
I am really worried about where the US is heading under his leadership, and nevermoreso than now.

From what I'm reading, WHO never offered test kits. What they did offer was the protocols for developing such kits. The administration opted to let our CDC develop our tests rather than use the protocol developed in Germany and preferred by WHO. The same was true of all countries that have the necessary technology. WHO did help countries that don't have the technology to get what they needed but didn't offer to supply kits to others. That's the same thing I read. I sometimes don't know who to believe any more. My first thought was where would the WHO get such huge funding to supply these things world-wide. presumably the US, since we are a member of that organization, right?

My Maine coon has about 30 minutes of smothering affection, the rest of the day she will move around the house, usually in the same room with me but not in my lap - sleeping in the next chair or under the table. More dogish than cat. And that fat, feathery tail like a duster. Not psychotic like the Siamese. Chooch begs to differ! She's not psychotic! She's simply animated while awake. When asleep she's a lump in my lap. Oooh, by the way, I found the bestest cat treats! Dreamies. They're made in the UK and you can get them on Amazon in a number of flavors. Chooch, who usually turns her nose up at treats, absolutely loves them. there are so many perverse jokes that could be made using that name.
kudos for the excellent choice.

. Still on that. That is not the argument. Since you are a smart guy, I know you can understand that. Still refusing to answer the question. But if you criticize tha governor, the president deserves blame

Chooch, who usually turns her nose up at treats, absolutely loves them. We've taken in a flame point male that turned up feral at our house about 2 years ago. Took a long time before he left me touch him, but eventually he became friendly. Then he got extremely sick (I suspect he got into a poison somewhere) and had to have his gallbladder removed. Now he looks like a sheep shorn by a drunk, with his belly hair all gone. A month after that, he had crystals in his kidneys that nearly killed him, now he needs the expensive special urinary tract food so he won't have kidney blockage again. And how does the little psychopath thank me for savings his life (twice) and taking him into my house? He gets in moods where he pees all around the house, even into the heat and air registers. So I have puppy pee pads everywhere. He still sometimes pees on the floor anyway. He also sometimes starts screaming that Siamese banshee wail, sometimes in the middle of the night. I'm hoping most of it is related to being 1) feral and 2) not neutered yet. (Vet says to give him a couple months to completely recover from the gallbladder surgery). i've had seal point siamese before who did not act like lunatics, so I don't blame the breed. Just him. Originally, when he first showed up and was probably about 3 months old, he was all white with sky blue eyes, so I named him Gabriel. As he got older, his face, feet and tail darkened to orange and he grew into a tightly wound maniac, and I realized i couldn't name him after an angel. So he's Grendel now. Suits him better. But like most cats, he is charming enough we've become fond of the little terrorist. I will have to try those snacks, I'm sure the there of them would enjoy them.

Then when things finally got so bad he couldn't deny it, he did one of his trademark 180 degree flips and claimed not only is it a pandemic, he knew it was a pandemic well before any of the medical people said it was a pandemic, because he's a genius about everything. So before Trump could set the right tone, he had to get on the same damn page of the song with the medical experts.

Well, another president wouldn't have fired all his pandemic experts when he first took office, because another president would have listened to medical experts who would have told him we are always at risk of having a new pandemic, especially in areas of the world like China, where population growth keeps pushing into areas that have historically been wild areas, with diseases we haven't encountered before.

I just realized that the zombie flu outbreak in Max Brook's World War Z started in a rural area of China.
Hmmm...

Interesting article. West Virginia was woefully ill prepared. The story behind West Virginia's 'no coronavirus' statisticCarolyn Vigil was lying in bed next to her husband when she first saw the meme. It noted West Virginia had no reported cases of coronavirus, and jokingly pleaded for its people to hang on. She remembers it so well because it's the day her husband James began to feel sick in their Shepherdstown home in the West Virginia panhandle. Her husband was sick from Covid-19. But her "coronavirus-free" state wasn't set up to test him. He would become the state's Patient #1. They didn't know it then, of course, nor did anyone else. But in the following days they felt like that they were the only people in the state who wanted to find out. From medical professionals who simply had no information to health administrators in the same boat, all the way up to the President saying the state was doing a good job for having no cases. And all the while, Patient #1 -- James Vigil -- was there for the testing. That evening, James had gone straight to bed when he'd gotten home from work. He'd had a bad headache, his sinuses bothering him and achy. Complete article here: The story behind West Virginia's 'no coronavirus' statistic

Is he peeing or spraying? One of these things is not like the other. With any luck, it will stop once he's fixed.

You should use the medical terminology. It originated in china, but viruses have no nationalities. Using anything but it’s correct scientific name means you have another agenda. The names you discussed were named prior to the new naming conventions. You know they changed leprosy to Hansen’s disease, right. Because of negative connotations. You want to call it a Chinese virus for the same reason. Also, how the hell you getting reparations. From the world court? You conservatives don’t like it, but now you are going th use it?

We are where we are today due to the inaction of trump. If anyone should be sued by the American public it is trump and his administration.

C'mon, jma. You're a smart dude. You know that question was rhetorical. I know, just seeing what I would get back.
This in regards to agenda, etc.
Color me suspicious, but I don't always believe what people present themselves as until they have posted for a while, and to satisfy my memory as far as contradiction is concerned between threads and similar subject.
You seldom, if ever, contradict yourself, And I've been posting with you for a long time, on many, many, subjects.
Any way, my Wi-Fi hot-spot at home has failed, (I'm posting from the roller rink) so I don't know when I'll be back on again as I'm not going into town that I know of for a while.
Be safe.
Ouch! This is no time to have your wi-fi skip town! Hope it comes back up soon. I can be a bit cynical myself but pulmonaryMD has proven himself to my satisfaction. I've worked with enough of them over the years to feel pretty confident in my appraisal. I think, right now, we all need to cut one another a bit of slack anyway. Things just ain't good and ain't lookin' to get better too quickly so everyone is a bit on edge.

Hopefully, they'll get better with time. Being feral certainly didn't help and he may be marking territory. Neutering will help with that. As to the howling, neutering may help some ... but, don't count on it. The only time Chooch isn't screamin' is when she's sleepin'. Such a dear. Really. Umm, yeah. Despite their proclivities for noise and mischief, I always have a Siamese. They're an acquired taste?

i want to propose another idea.
rather than BLAMING China and suing them, how about we EMPLOY THEM?
their infection rate is half of what ours is at this hour. they have fewer deaths than Italy, and fewer live cases than the UK. they know what to do, and how to do it. how about having THEM provide expertise in defeating this thing? isn't saving tens, hundreds, or THOUSANDS of THOUSANDS of lives (for those fuzzy on the math, thousands of thousands is millions) worth more to us than our sense of outrage and revenge?
I am starting to think we deserve this thing. when are Americans, and particularly the GOP and the president, going to start behaving like sensible persons rather than spoiled children?
before or AFTER we die?

I got an email about this, linked to a YouTube video. Fascinating, may work on a short term basis, but I do not believe it is practical in icu, just for the infection control issues alone. But thanks for the information

It is what it is the Chinese Virus plain and simple. Stop with all the damn political correctness bullshit. We have rocky mountain spotted fever, West nile virus.....why the hell are people afraid to call it what it is....Hell when it's all said and done I hope Trump tries to go after China for reparations, at least he will have the balls to do it No it is not. I wonder if ednkris calls his penis his wee-wee, and a vagina a snatch.
