I'll remember to throw in Trumps name next time to make the subject fit anywhere. See deminmaine for blame on the subject switch. #263 Not really jma, I wasn't switching the subject, merely pointing out the futility of the arguments of the science deniers. You took it from there ( My comment in the post #263: Gad this is like arguing climate change all over again, but with an active body count. Yippee! ) I don't know, I distinctly remember seeing climate change in there. The futility of science deniers didn't require that kind of specificity.

Anyone see the news on the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt @ Guam, that has covid-19 spreading through the crew ?
It was on recently.
So far, it hasn't been linked to climate change, or Trump deregulating something.

ok, I am starting to like this site.
it appears that they are adjusting this model DAILY based on data that is coming in. the projection a few days ago was 81k. now it is 93k.
covid19.healthdata.org/projections
I am going to put this one on my favourites list.
edit: they are now showing peak deaths per day at 2600, which is +300 from last time. maybe I should start a thread with this one? yeah. I think I will do that. It's all a Democrat hoax.

As of midnight 890 and 30 people dead in my county alone. We are in the middle of the 3rd week of shelter in place. I shudder to think what it would look like without those orders even though it sucks to be locked in (at least through May 3rd for now)

If we're playing "Can You Top This?" the mayor of Cumming, GA (population approximately 6400), just rescinded the social distancing order for his city because "it's not popular" and the citizens are ticked about his plan to hire 150 more policemen to enforce it.
Our governor still won't issue a statewide travel ban in Georgia. Florida finally issued a stay-at-home order, but not Georgia. Nope. Feel free to move about.

swamp It must be some sort of Georgian math. Maybe he figured the cops would have to measure from person to person? I dunno. It's a resort area at Lake Lanier. Maybe he figured there'd be so many people at the lake that it would take that many to keep up with the measuring. NastyWoman Of course. trump said the other day in one of his pressers (rallies) that he had not asked any of his predecessors for advice because he didn't need it.

Anthony Fauci’s security is stepped up as doctor and face of U.S. coronavirus response receives threatsAnthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-diseases expert and the face of the U.S. response to the novel coronavirus pandemic, is facing growing threats to his personal safety, prompting the government to step up his security, according to people familiar with the matter. The concerns include threats as well as unwelcome communications from fervent admirers, according to people with knowledge of deliberations inside the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Justice. Fauci, 79, is the most outspoken member of the administration in favor of sweeping public health guidelines and is among the few officials willing to correct President Trump’s misstatements. Along with Deborah Birx, the coordinator for the White House’s task force, Fauci has encouraged the president to extend the timeline for social-distancing guidelines, presenting him with grim models about the possible toll of the pandemic. Fauci has become a public target for some right-wing commentators and bloggers, who exercise influence over parts of the president’s base. As they press for the president to ease restrictions to reinvigorate economic activity, some of these figures have assailed Fauci and questioned his expertise. Last month, an article depicting him as an agent of the “deep state” gained nearly 25,000 interactions on Facebook — meaning likes, comments and shares — as it was posted to large pro-Trump groups with titles such as “Trump Strong” and “Tampa Bay Trump Club.” Complete article here: Anthony Fauci’s security is stepped up as doctor and face of U.S. coronavirus response receives threats

Which means all the snowbirds have had a chance to close up their winter homes and head home (taking along the coronavirus as well). I'm gonna guess that Florida's more populated areas where people live year round are gonna be hurting in a couple of weeks.

I'm waiting for a 'Medical Act' expanding government powers, similar to the 'Patriot Act' after 9-11. Think there's any chances on this djAdvocate ?

there are still too many non-believers in the need for it.
i am not sure it is necessary, either. if the president stepped up and took what power he already has, most people would fall in line.

There are several living and lodging conditions that are very tenuous right now- cruise ships and prisons as stated above.
Homeless shelters. The big one in Portland had people sleeping on mats 2'0" apart until last week. Now most of them are in isolation in a field house after several came down positive. The new restrictions at the new shelter area (another large arena type spot) have the mats positioned 6'0" apart. Still a cesspool of germs.
Assisted Living/ Nursing Homes. No surprise there, but I heard a new potential nightmare this week. A large one in town "may have to close" if more help goes out sick or otherwise absent. Holy homeless helpless people batman. That is a horrendous thought. These people live there and most cannot even fend for themselves at all.
I brought home a couple of N95 masks for my wife and I last night. I am told they should be stored in a paper bag, which keeps them isolated from dirty surfaces when not in use, but also "breathes" enough to let them thoroughly dry. Seems the Asians were right. Makes sense to wear them in public. I also sent a worker home today. No fever, no symptoms other than a cough "due to allergies". I can't expose everyone else to the chance though.

My DH was cremated and there was no way I wanted to stand there and watch that process. Sheesh!!! What would have been sad is that I even wanted to stand there at watch him being slid into the crematory, door closing and the fire started. EGADS, makes be cringe just to think about it.

I think its unlikely that the current administration will do anything to expand medical coverage, but it may become more popular with the voting public in future elections. Trump has declined to open up a new enrollment period on the federal exchange, so the uninsured in those states don't have the option to buy insurance. However he is hinting at expanding Medicaid. www.politico.com/news/2020/04/01/trump-obamacare-coronavirus-160732

I think its unlikely that the current administration will do anything to expand medical coverage, ... I took this differently. The 'Patriot Act' expanded the power of the federal government to monitor our activities. A similar 'Medical Act' would open up our medical records for federal monitoring. I don't see that happening.

I didn't mean as monitoring records. More like expanded control of what can be done during medical emergencies such as this, or worse. More authority in the directing of resources, limiting movement, etc.

The DW and I have already agreed together that we want to be cremated. I never really thought about the actual process of getting there, but I don't think I would want to be present when they actually burn her body. Cringe indeed.

It is only limited by any individual President's willingness to invoke it.

I did not see my parents in their dead state. I did not get to where my parents died until the day after they died. By then, the funeral home had already collected their bodies and the cremation process had already begun. I did go with my sister to the funeral home to pick up my dad's ashes. Once we were back at my brother's home, we opened the container holding my dad's ashes. It was interesting seeing a larger than life man's remains reduced to a relatively small container of ashes. Choosing cremation over body burial takes out all the potential irrational thoughts associated with body burial such as wondering what your loved one's remains look like 3, 6, 12 months after their burial. Or wondering if they might be cold in in the winter time. A friend mine wondered about her deceased dad being cold in the ground during the winter so she bought a flower blanket to place atop his grave. A couple of links why some might want to watch a cremation. As for me, I'll pass on witnessing a cremation. Seeing their ashes sated my curiosity about cremation and what is involved.
