House is being cleaned this morning.
Dnephew3 called last night. Had not talked to him for a while. He has had two more concussions this summer. He had an offer to teach but decided not to take the position. He says with the way he feels because of his concussions, he can not be a good teacher right now.
He now wants to take over the DQ where we always took dad and where he has worked off and on since high school. He is now a manager there. He said the owner is training him so that she can eventually sell it to him.

At the beginning of this week I had plans, both grand and mundane. Then Tuesday morning I got violently ill for the day (probably TMI but I must have vomited 20 times). Tuesday night was just painful with very little sleep--my body and head ached all night, and I had chills and hot flashes, but no fever. Wed and Thurs I was just too weak to manage much of anything but lie around. Today I feel better, but want to be cautious. Think I'll just chalk up the week to a loss and try again later. startsmart, you're amazing. Congratulations to your DS3 and to you, debthaven.

Welp, I'm thinking I have prepared as much as possible for the next round of the-world-has-gone-cuckoo. We're stocked up on food, water, HBAs, meds, stamps and fuel. This will keep me out of stores, etc. as much as possible. Have a fantastic weekend, everyone.

I definitely do not feel like I’m making amazing progress but that’s the mindset shift from coming from a house that’s “done” and photographed to sell to one that’s so far from done it’s ridiculous.
Today I did pick up the electrical components I need for the first floor. I also bought a kitchen table and a pan and made dinner in my stove! About half the living room is done with the first coat of paint and I took a dinner break before going back on the ladder. I am definitely going to need another gallon for the office and entryway (which will be the same color as the living room.
Last night I got one set of curtains up in the bedroom, I need to do the second set. Before installing the curtain rod I primed and painted around the window so I don’t have to take down the hardware later on. I’ve chosen the paint for the bedroom and it’s so different than the colors of my last house.
I also replaced the light bulbs and now it’s bright in here!

It has been a busy week as usual. Yesterday after work I did get most of the trimming done on the bushes that are on the other side of the deck rail. This needed to be done so I could get behind them to paint, plus I try to keep them trimmed back anyway to not damage the deck and railings. I have also been making sweet pickles all week. It is actually amazing that I'm not permanently stuck to my kitchen floor. They are called 8 day pickles and once the brine is made you have to pour it off each day, bring it to a boil, and then pour it back over the cucumbers. The brine is two cups of sugar to one cup of vinegar, plus some spices. Over the years I have learned to just wait until the pickles are in the jar and then scrub the floor, no point until your done. Tomorrow is pickle canning day. DD is coming up in the morning and we are going to take the kids swimming for a short while. The pool is operating on a sign up basis and limiting the number of people at any one time. Plus we will be primarily in the baby pool. DD and I sit on the edge with our feet in the water and let them play. Then it is back to the house for lunch and an after lunch nap for the younger generation. During nap time DD is going to help me can the pickles. Sunday we are anticipating temps of near 100 so I just plan on hunkering down inside.

Sorry about the lack of sleep Theo. Sadly, I can now relate. I've just been wandering around the house at night, cleaning and trying to remember what I'm doing. I get a few hours of sleep but not an awful lot. My BIL is taking me to Lowes to look for a new toilet and kitchen faucet. I think at some point in a couple months, we're going to start making lists of things that need to be fixed. Probably first on the list will be replacing doors. I had to take them off for DH's wheelchair but now I need to put them back on. Need a whole new bathroom door frame as I had to rip that out completely.
I am so sorry about your DH, empress. Thinking about you.

empress of self-improvement -- I also want to express my condolences . Like Blonde Granny and several others on the board I am also a widow. Take time for yourself. Sleep. There is no hurry to do everything at once. Do what you want on your time schedule. It has taken me years to make my house reflect me not us. I do still have several things that I cannot part with. Some things I had to wait to find someone to give them a home where they would be appreciated as much as DH did. startsmart -- You are accomplishing a lot in a short period of time. I know that you want to move faster but pace yourself. You do not want to overdo and hurt yourself. Especially since I am sure that you have not had time to develop a relationship with the medical facilities in your new hometown. finnime -- Hope that you are continuing to feel better. Got to get my day started. Will check in later.

I'm getting a bit stuck. For about a week or two now.
I feel like I just can't anymore with the cleaning and the organizing. And it shows.

Rukh- we all face demotivation at times! I just laid down through an entire virtual yoga class. If you look around whatever room you’re in, what bothers you the most? Can you make a deal that you only have to handle that one thing today?
Another way I get myself moving when I’m tired is to count to 25 as I pick up items for the trash, recycling or to put away. When I get 25 items I can quit.
So far today I’ve done 38 boxes and then unpacked 4 of them in the house. I am very close to being done with the medium and book boxes, then it’s just about 100 small boxes.
I am also close to having the desk unearthed so that can move indoors, I shouldn’t need help navigating it inside but if I do the neighbors have all been friendly.
Yesterday I made dinner on the stove for the first time and now that I have begun unpacking my kitchen boxes I have real plates and glasses and pans! I still need a lot of organizational furniture to sort out my garage stuff but it feels like progress.
On the agenda today:
One more truckload
Set up the ikea chair Clear kitchen counters
Choose a room upstairs for box storage
ETA The kitchen counter was cleared but then I brought in more boxes so it's a little chaotic again. I ended up moving 52 boxes today and emptying 12. The empty boxes are broken down and upstairs in a bedroom for now (I have 6 bedrooms on the second floor so lots of space!).

Sold the futon in the sewing room, hurray! I had about given up on that. I'm still sorting through other stuff.

My website is up and running and looking like I want it to look. www.brashopdirectory.com If you're in the States, you or your friends may find it quite useful. No decluttering today. I did buy some new sandals which means I can toss the ones that are a couple years old and looking pretty grody.

Looks great Nidea! I may send it to a client of mine who does bra fittings.
I am finally getting my laundry done, I started at 8am so it wouldn’t be blazing hot in the laundrymat. Today’s big goal is to move the desk into the house and I’m just about to the point of uncovering it from boxes and misc stuff.
In between moving boxes and furniture I am reading the books from my book boxes in an attempt to read through all of my volumes in the next year or two. I’m starting with the easy kids books that are short and fun. Some are just as fun as I remembered, some are horrible out of touch.

I get rid of stuff in spurts. Not enough has been gotten rid of to tell it.
I got rid of 3 pair of shoes, a back pack, pressure cooker, and a ceiling fan kit the other day. Not much but something. I'm getting rid of all the nice shoes I can't wear. About all of them are gone. They were good, expensive shoes as I have always had bad feet and never spared expense for good shoes. Hope someone picked them up at the porch of the thrift store. It's not open right now.
I always intended to have a yard sale and just to much work. I imagine I've given away thousands of dollars worth of stuff through the years. You never realize how much money you have wasted until you start pulling stuff out you don't use. Or I will say this applies to us.
Maybe when we finish that house I can get to this one. Even hubs agrees no more houses, at least for awhile, or maybe never would be better. Except for us moving.
I think we will eventually find something to meet both of our needs. There are a lot around here, the folks just never move out of them until they go to assisted living or die.

Well the desk made it as far as the porch before I needed a break! Boxes are moved out of the truck just in case the rain arrives early.
It looks like I’ll need one more gallon for the living room/office paint and I’ve chosen the paint for the downstairs master too. Luckily I have a coupon from Sherwin-Williams That gives me $15 every time I spent $75 that doesn’t expire until December and can be reused. I’ve got soooo much paint to buy.
It would be good to finish painting today but I’ll have to see how my hip and feet are feeling this afternoon if I can get on the ladder or not. I have a load of boxes to take upstairs and a nearly full trash bag of packing material too.

When I was still Active Duty, I bought so many clothes for the lifestyle I *thought* I'd have when I was no longer in the military, not realizing that I would gain a good 20-30lbs in the years after I finished my 20 years. While AD, I was 175ish. Now, 200+. I sold a lot to Style Encore and gave a lot away. I got rid of a ton in 2015 when I found that book by Marie Kondo but even more has been purged in the four years since my military retirement.

ugh! as if I wasn't in enough of a funk. My *one* paper I sent out was rejected outright. No revise and resubmit even. I don't know if I have it in me to try again. I should have picked a different paper to put out, but I got pulled down this particular rabbit hole and now all that time was wasted.

I have gotten quite a bit done this weekend but the main thing is my house is now de-pickled. DD and I got the pickles canned yesterday and I got the stove top taken apart, washed, and put back together. The crocks also got washed yesterday. Today the pickles jars were washed, labeled and put away. DD stopped by and picked up her share of the pickles. The counter got and cupboard doors, below where the crocks sat, all got a good scrubbing today. The kitchen floor was steam mopped so you no longer are in danger of being permanently stuck in place. The house no longer has that pungent, sweet, syrupy pickle brine smell. This morning I did some yard work before it got too hot. The garden got some of the weeds pulled, some fertilizer applied and the whole yard was well watered. I also fertilized the hanging baskets and pots that sit on the decks. I have been so busy painting that the plants have been really neglected. The lawn also got mowed. Then I went over to Mom's and watered all her plants really well. It is supposed to be 100 degrees today and near 100 tomorrow, then a couple of days in the 90's so will need to keep on top of my watering. Shite pile has been dealt with, YNAB is up to date, the house has been vacuumed. Dusting really needs to happen but probably won't. Today I also went through my home canned goods and empty some jars that were old and rearranged the shelves. Now I have a better idea of what I have and what I need to do this summer.
Yesterday I did have a little bit of play time. When DD and the kids came up to do pickles the first thing we did was take the kids for a swim. The swimming pool is on a sign up system this year due to COVID. There were 4 families signed up in our time slot and two of them didn't show up (Max is 20 people per time slot). Social distancing was pretty easy to accomplish.

I have some bell peppers I tried canning a year or so ago, they are soft, don't like them so going to pitch. Last year cleaned out the old stuff so I think we are good. Hubs carried my beets downstairs so need to put away.
I didn't need to do pickles or relish this year so cukes coming out my ears and peppers. Planting less garden next year so hope I get enough for canning.
Just have to see, I might be in such shape have to buy it all or may not even be able to can. To be determined.

Hi friends, DH and I went on a spontaneous five-day trip. And you all know how non-spontaneous I am!!! We spent one day driving to Lake Tahoe, three full days at Lake Tahoe, and then driving back today. We had a great time, and we definitely needed it. I actually had to throw down with DH to get him to go. We didn't have to pay anything for lodging as it was my SIL's sister's house. SIL & BIL were supposed to go to Cabo last week, but--obviously--that couldn't happen. This was their substitute, and they invited us to join them.
I've come back to a messy house because DD#2 was here by herself the whole time. I'll get it straightened up tonight and tomorrow. The car is completely unpacked, but it needs to be vacuumed. Laundry to do and luggage to put away also need to happen between today and tomorrow.
I think I'm going to order a new planner. I have to take a lot of notes for my college classes now, and having them in my regular notebook is just not working. I have planning thoughts for school, pages for each employee, project management pages, and now college classes mixed in with all of that plus my to do lists.
So, my new thought is
- Actual formatted planner for daily & weekly lists and meeting notes
- one regular notebook for project planning for work
- one regular notebook for college class notes
But then three notebooks sounds like a lot. Sigh.

Good morning! Add me to the list of finding home projects during self-quarantine. I've been spending more time on the upper deck since we haven't been going anywhere on weekends. So, I thought I might as well spruce it up and make it more homey. Currently there are 3 relatively new mismatched chairs, a doormat, and DH's Traeger and a storage box for it's accessories and pellets. I spent quite some time researching things I can have delivered, and asking a few online friends their thoughts on plants for our climate. Stay tuned. And I am running out of spaces to organize, LOL. I organized the back pantry shelves, relocated a few items, and put like things with like such as plastic cups, and party paper plates and napkins. It looks much nicer.

Just stopping in for a moment to say "Hi!". I really haven't been on here much, as I'm still slogging through paperwork, and I needed to take a break from that just to try & do some basic chores around the house this weekend. empress of self-improvement, I am so very sorry about your loss. Try & catch up on some rest. It all doesn't need to be done in a day. And, know that doing estate paperwork is a process. I helped Mom with Dad's estate, and a lot of the places that were always friendly with my Dad, really weren't very nice to my Mom. (Including the union pension representative.) I often had to go with her so things would get done. It was a bit easier for them to blow off a woman in her 80's, but a bit harder for them to ignore me. Definitely work with an attorney. They are worth every dime in making sure all of the proper paperwork gets done.
