Over the weekend, I did the usual dishes, laundry, food prep, meal planning, cleaned toilets, bird feeders, garbage, etc. I finally dusted the main room and moved the exercise bike for DH. I did some mending yesterday and actually found it relaxing. Interesting. I also grilled a pizza for the first time on DH's Traeger.
Saturday I inadvertently tackled the coat closet. The basket which held some of the cassette tapes I purged now holds small camping items. Two racing shirts went to a neighbor, and a pair of shoes went into the Goodwill pile. That cleared out and neatened up one small shelf. I discovered a penguin bag containing 5 pairs of sunglasses I'd forgotten about. Those already have takers from a friend via FB. The aforementioned neighbor is two decades younger than I, and I don't think she understands why I'm purging items?

Sorry for your loss taxpro.
DH worked on the backyard this weekend. The patio is finished now I think. A plumber came this morning and replaced the hose connection in the backyard. I bought chairs. I need a bin for firepit wood and a table.
Most of what I got done was routine cleaning. I spilled banana bread in the oven and made a horrible mess. I'm trying baking soda paste on it now.
I've got ideas bouncing around in my head. I'm concerned about how long some will take so they are probably weekend jobs.

Today I did a load of laundry and went to town for grocery pick-up.
My cousin who lost his dad yesterday offered me a ceramic Christmas tree that he says my mom gave to his mom. I told him I would love it.
The estate attorney had my sister take him the bank statements so he can do an accounting of dad's accounts. He said then the money can be distributed. So we are getting close. Sister is going to have the attorney send half sister her money and we will reimburse him.

I finished the ceiling painting over the weekend and plan on working the walls this week -- I have help/company coming over this weekend so I want to have all the paint supplies put away. I had planned on dropping off my library books and the library system has now updated to opening in mid July instead of today which really bums me a bit. TheOtherMe -- Sorry to hear about another relative passing away.

snapdragon My parents both came from large families. My mother is from a family of 13 children and 3 half sisters. My dad is from a family of 12 children. Sadly, that means a lot of death as well as many more happy times. Now on my mom's side there is only her youngest brother remaining and he is 90. On my dad's side, there are 2 brothers and 1 sister left. All are over 90. There is one sister in law left and she is over 90. They can't live forever.

I got the main focal wall painted last night so all I have left is the hallway walls. I am going to attempt to work on those today and possibility tomorrow just to get it done and I can put things away. I am tired of not being able to relax or sit anywhere but on my bed. I have a few boxes ready for donation but I need to check if our sites are open yet. I figured out where I will be able to donate Dad's and Karen's golf equipment so that they will do good in the community. This makes me really happy but I still need to wait before I can donate. Small steps but I will take them.

Had to come in rest and cool off It's 87 and 50% humidity so not to bad.
I got everything out of the lawn shed, its a nice sized one, holds a riding mower and trailer, push mower and much more. 2 trailer loads full to the dumpster out back behind my mower. It's overflowing, 2 of our tenants use it also. The 3rd load was some kind of wood fiber stuff I put on the burn pile, hubs will likely throw a fit and I got rid of some 5 gallon jugs. That needs to be neat in there so things can be put up in an orderly way. I have 6 boxes of new LED lights for the fence in Texas. Giving to the neighbor as the town is decorating trees in the bluff park at Christmas. I have more in a tote but want to test them before I give them to use.
I'm cooling off, drinking water, eating a Kit Kat bar for energy. When I go back out, shoveling some debris loose, then blowing it out. After that scrubbing the inside with degreaser. I have 2 shelving units I'm not moving but they are up off the floor so will be ok. I think there is more I could throw away but the dumpster just won't hold more. I intend to leave everything out and let it dry overnight. Maybe I should put a fan in it to help. First time I've really cleaned it like this in the 8 years we have lived here. Normally I just move a few things out and hit it with the blower.

I am about to quit. I got the building blown out, then scrubbed the floor with degreaser. I doubt its ever been done was very dirty. Rinsed and water swept out. I put a few things back but want the floor to get dry before I put it all in there. I need to wash the one small window. I am too pooped to go to the basement and get a fan, darn. About 3 to 4 hours is my duration of physical work at a time. I find it very very frustrating. I am resting again, then will go out and put the trash can in and the empty gas cans. I want to go through the one shelf more, but again, not today. I bet I pitched half the stuff in there, which is good.

I decided to tackle one tiny area on Sunday. We have a window in the kitchen that has space to put a few plants or decorative items. I have been meaning to clean it out forever. Got all the old knickknacks from there gathered and in a box in the patio. I kept 4 items and completely wiped down the area. It looks so good, I think it will inspire me to do a little more.
I also gathered all the flower vases and put them in a secure area and threw away a lot of the reusable plastic water bottles from one shelf.
Will check with my cleaning lady if she wants the knickknacks. If not, the rescue mission is now scheduling pickups.

I moved the plants to the screened in porch, I think they will do much better out there and look so pretty.
I am making one more trip out and try to put up thIe gas cans and some items that won't keep the floor from drying. The wind blows here from the west and the door on it faces the east so not going to dry out very well from there.
Humidity went to 37% out so it dried. I got everything in but a big board that divided stuff and a tote with Xmas light I'm going to sort through and donate. I rinsed the mower down, its our little one hubs uses on small lawns and I use to pull the wagon and do stuff around the lawn so I don't have to walk as much.
I even got the spray fertilizer on my rose bushes on that side of the house on my way end. Then I quit. I came in soaked in a big tub of water with Epsom salts, had to wash my hair again and set it. I blew dirt all over in it.
Tomorrow, DD to chiro and me to have another pair of orthotics made. I hope to get home and trim weeds along my other rose bushes and plant a gardenia. That's all I'm planning for now, weedeating will take a lot out of me. The issue is the feet. I wobble all over and tire pretty quickly. I also want to put out some more tomato baskets on my pepper plants, will see if I can. I should be able to sit and test all the bulbs on those strings to see if they are good without to much effort.

I am so so sorry about your uncle TheO. Yet another loss.
The last few days have been insane. Emptying the dresser of DH's mom's stamps was a huge success and greatly appreciated, but apparently the identical night table I found was "way too big" and has been relegated to the basement.
Then the usual sewage problems started up again with the neighbors (first time in years). There are three houses with shared sewage lines, we are the first. Our regular Sewage Pipe Guy had a message, I'm not working during Covid. The neighbor found someone else at a reasonable price, but again refused to dig up HIS ("regard" ... a cement cover to look at the pipes. Don't know the word in English.) So as usual, he insisted we dig up ours instead.
We did, gave access to the pipes ... problem still not solved. The next-door neighbor STILL refused to dig up his, decided to access his pipes from the other side through the THIRD neighbor's garden. At this point the sewer guy said, um, it'll be more than I initially quoted.
Long story short, we agreed to pay 50% of the higher bill (as legally required) but I was angry. Then that night (last night) neighbor said, well we thought it was fixed, turns out it's not.
You'd THINK that given a choice between shit coming up to the door of your kitchen and digging up your lawn, you'd choose to dig up a specific section of your lawn. But NO, not O!!!
So O had the sewer guy come back again today. I told O surely you're not expecting us to pay for this visit too, especially since we paid more than planned for the first one, because you still refuse to dig up YOUR lawn to fix YOUR pipes. Not to mention that when we spent 33K, we redid ALL our pipes. He was angry but he said you can pay or not pay, your choice. To his credit, faced with the first higher bill, he said, I'll pay it, you pay me what you think is fair. We thought half the original quote (550e) was fair, but we paid half the bill (750e) in the interest of good neighborly relations.
Again, we are legally obliged to pay ... but I decided that law doesn't apply if the asshole chooses the longer/stupider solution in an attempt to keep his own lawn intact.
Given that I learned about gravity in second grade, and that everything (shit included) flows DOWNHILL and is harder to blast UPHILL, I declined to pay half of the second intervention.
To be clear, DH and DS1 both offered to help dig up the "regard" spot in HIS garden, but O "couldn't bare the mess" plus "there's no question of doing that with a 3YO running around!" Um, WE have a 3YO running around too! Thankfully our cover is only a couple of inches under the lawn.
The good news is, the guy checked out our pipes (which were redone a few years ago when we had all the subsidence issues), and said they were very well done, and that it was time for O to bite the bullet and redo his pipes too.
O's an ass but he's not mean. He'll pay for the rest, but his Alpha Male tendencies create difficult relationships.
He's also not stupid, generally. But how stupid do you have to be to go through both neighbors' gardens when YOU are the house with problems?!
I'm sure O was FURIOUS to hear that we have all brand new pipes but part of his are broken ceramic.
Also, his "regard" is 4 feet underground. He has a company coming to build it higher, right under the lawn (like ours) but only in July. In the meantime we couldn't shower, run any machines, flush the toilet, etc.
It's been a rough few days.

On a lighter note, we took E to the local garden center/farm and had a wonderful day.

I've done some yard and garden work, including cleaning out the small fish pond and replacing its pump, so now we have a waterfall again. Also scheming about painting.
In the meantime DH has been going gangbusters cleaning up and organizing the office and the Florida room. I'm really grateful for all the work he's put in. Several bags full of trash have departed and boxes and bags filled ready to be picked up by the Vietnam Vets.
We've just barely begun reopening non-essential businesses in our county with severe restrictions. I'm hoping to get my hair cut sometime in the next few weeks. I'm sure it will take a while. In the meantime I'm using a barrette to hold it in back; too short for a pony tail.
I hope tonight has only peaceful protests. Washington D.C. is just a few miles away and I'm still in shock about what was done to the protesters last night before the curfew, just to allow Trump to have a photo op.

debthaven Is that like what we call a septic system here in US? It sounds like a mess. I'm glad you are fixing it and hopefully you won't have any more problems. Around here everyone's drain runs from their house directly to the city sewer line, so never need to worry about the neighbors' maintenance and repair issues.

I painted 7 1/2 hours today and the West side of the house now has it's two full coats of color.
Then I got brave and went to return bottles. That place is always gross and sticky on a good day. The one nearest my house also draws a lot of the homeless because of its location. They are there returning the bottles they collect. The bottle return is now limiting the amount of people in the building and they only allow people at every other machine. That means long lines outside. Today the line was just across the front of the building, okay good, the people didn't seem to have too many bags, so I got in line. Come to fine out people get in line with one or two bags and then when they closer to the front of the line they go to their car and get the rest of their cans. I was there an hour and 40 minutes. I had way more cans/bottles than usual because I hadn't been going due the the clientele. Today, other than the staff, there was only one other person besides myself wearing a mask.

TheOtherMe -- Sorry for your loss. My parents also came from large families and I understand the realities. debthaven -- Sorry about the sewer issues with the neighbor. Glad that you are having great times with E. I have been keeping up with the day by day stuff. Still staying home but not doing as much decluttering as I should be doing. Mainly I am reorganizing things as if I find something to donate or trash out it goes. I did declutter some money from my sinking fund stored in the savings account and paid off my car loan. I was tired of the monthly bill, paid extra monthly as it was and was paying more in interest than it was earning in the savings. So I pulled the plug and paid it off yesterday. Glad that I won't have to deal with the monthly details in the future. Need to get my day started. Will check in later.

Got the first coat of paint on the walls last night. I didn't put things away until about 10 PM. Tonight is the final push to get the 2nd coat done and than I can hide my supplies and clean/vacuum my space and start moving furniture around.
I also need to clean off the kitchen counters and put down the new sink/DW slip mat that I got after cleaning the floors.
Little bits at a time but they seem to be working for me.

I think the only thing that I declutter regularly is food out of the fridge. Ever since I signed up for Imperfect Foods, it has given me the mental encouragement to eat veggies regularly and before the next weekly shipment comes. These veggies are FRESH.

Well I am a few days away from my big road trip to see the houses I am interested in buying, doing walk throughs and deciding if I want to put in an offer. I am hugely anxious to get on the road but spending this time resting and researching before I go. I don't want to drive out of my way to see a house that's already sold or has an offer in escrow. Here's a little of the prep I'm doing:
- Filling up my gas tank before I leave and planning to stop every 300 miles for fuel - Making two-ply fabric masks for all stops, enough to wash and dry them overnight - Topping off fluids on my car, making sure it runs smoothly - Stocking an ice chest with drinks, snacks and supplies to make sandwiches - Mapping out a safe route to avoid protests that shut down freeways - Checking all the counties where I'll be seeing homes to evaluate their COVID infection numbers - Downloading music and podcasts for the drive
I anticipate I'll be gone for 2 or 3 weeks unless I can get the real estate agents to show up swiftly when I am in town and not have any delays. Depending on how quickly I find my next house and put in an offer, I may take the longer, more rural route home to avoid major cities.
My goals for June are: 1. buy a house 2. pack and ship all my stuff 3. sell my toyota 4. move (if escrow closes in time)

Catching up ...
Sharon I'm glad you got the painting and bottles done, but what a wait!
Moneysquirrel, congrats on paying off the car loan!
Snapdragon yay on finishing the paint!!!
Startsmart wow! Good luck on the road trip and please check in when you can! I know driving is arduous but it's safer than flying these days.
(From CCL) debthaven Is that like what we call a septic system here in US? It sounds like a mess. I'm glad you are fixing it and hopefully you won't have any more problems. Around here everyone's drain runs from their house directly to the city sewer line, so never need to worry about the neighbors' maintenance and repair issues.
(From TheO) I live in a duplex and my line and my neighbor's line meet somewhere and then go to the street.
CCL no it's not a septic system. It's a bit like what TheO describes although it's separate houses. The pipes flow into each other.
My house (plot) was originally part of a HUGE plot that was subdivided into 3 plots in the early 80s, A B and C. We're House A. Our House A pipes rejoin House B's pipes which rejoin House C's pipes. House C's pipes then rejoin the city sewage pipes.
House C is the newest house because they built in the 1980s. Part of House A and all of House B are over 100 years old and have (or in our case HAD!) old pipes.
The contractors who fixed the subsidence prepped our pipes so we could join the city system, but for now it doesn't go through our (tiny) street.
This is fairly common here (western suburbs of Paris). Many huge properties were subdivided as the suburbs developed, and the new plots don't necessarily have easy access to the city sewers.
The good news is, O was amazed that we knew EXACTLY where our "regard" was, and that it took 5 min to unbury it. So he's going to have his "regard" dug up and built up closer to the surface. Even if it happens again, clearing out his pipes will cost much less once they are accessible (even if we are still legally responsible for half the cost).
Eventually we hope to get on the city sewer system, but like I said, we're on a tiny street. When my ex and I bought the house, there was one house on the street. Now there are 3 on our side, and the once huge property across the tiny street has been subdivided too.

J got the ditch mowed of ours, and along this side and up another road mowed for the old college. Wanted to weed eat a bit but was too hot.
I did weed eat behind my rose bushes and hubs and I got the yard mowed. I got my hands and arm ate up by deerflies again. and they are once again swelling, took 2 Benadryl so will likely put me asleep. I was getting sick at my stomach so got a bit worried. I'm allergic to so much. Will wear gloves and my net shirt the next time.
I had other work I wanted to do, took some baskets out for the garden, watered some flowers it was 91 and hot. We fixed sandwiches and stuff tonight instead of me cooking.
I am going to go ice my hand, later.
