Used up some of those itty bitty lotions and potions that were in the closet. One was a one-time-use shampoo. I washed my hair and realized it was so wrong for my hair type, I had to wash my hair again. And some of the lotions...how did I even tolerate their scent before. It's one thing when you first put it on and then you become noseblind. I never became noseblind to one I used and smelled it all day. It didn't stink; it just wasn't a scent I'd want to smell all day. Woke up with a migraine this morning, took my meds, and then woke up with muscle ache from having slept so hard. do you think those scents contributed to the migraine?

I let the company deliver salt for my water softener. I had to request the guy wear a mask and he did comply.
After he left, I wiped everything down with clorox wipes.

I generally use the hotel shampoos and some of the soap, but I can't use any of those scented lotions. These were samples of face creams that I've used in the past. Most of my itty bitties aren't hotel items. They're those little tear-open samples from makeup counters. The woman that I used to visit the most at the Elizabeth Arden counter used to give me bunches to tide me over in between paydays.

Yesterday was a pretty rough day. I'm having trim work done in the house and new window boxes built to replace mine that weren't salvageable after getting new windows. My entry way is small, like 2 1/2 ft by about 6 ft, more just a place to step into. It has always had this weird quarter round added to the trim, I never knew why. Yesterday the guys were pulling up the old trim. There are 4 layers of vinyl in my entry way. The top two stop at the quarter round. In other words my new trim won't cover that gap, new quarter round would look weird with my trim.
I have vinyl left over from when I had it replaced about a 1 1/2 years ago. It is actually left over from the kitchen. So I got angry and ripped out the 4 layers of vinyl last night. Get down to the bottom and there was dry rot. When the guy installed my new door he had mentioned some dry rot, as a side note and after the door was installed. He said they had caulked it up and it should be fine. If the new door has to come out to repair the dry rot I am going to be beyond p*ssed. That will mess up the new siding. If it comes to that the siding company will be paying and not me. The contractor who is doing the inside work is coming by this morning to look at the issue. I trust him, he has done work multiple times for me. When an issue is found I'm always informed, before they do anything, and allowed to see the issue, am given the options, and allowed to make a decision. This had me so upset I couldn't sleep last night, so now I'm also tired in addition to being stressed about the rot, and the probable fight with the siding company.

Sorry to hear that Sharon. You are so close to being done!
I'm about to declutter literally thousands of things from this house! DD, L and two friends are looking to rent a house together and it looks like that will happen in the middle of June. They have found what looks to be the perfect place. Fingers crossed that it all works out.
It took DD a week to stop crying about the loss of our beloved cat. Then she started actively looking to move out. Turns out that she wouldn't even consider moving because she knew she couldn't take the cat. Not that we wouldn't have let her, she just wouldn't move the cat because she knew it would make the cat unhappy.
I have some furniture and kitchen stuff I no longer want that I've stored for them as well as all their personal possessions. I'm kind of giddy at the thought of all that freed up space! Their new abode has tons of storage so I'll encourage them to take EVERYTHING. I'm pretty sure that they'll get rid of a lot of things if they have to move them.
And when they're gone I'm afraid that I'll find that DD isn't the only messy one in this house. And I know it isn't DH or L. My and run tendencies are about to become glaringly obvious.
I'm crying while I'm typing this. I knew this was coming But I'm also really happy for them.

Oh Sharon I'm so sorry to hear that! I'm sure that INCREDIBLY frustrating at this point. Fingers crossed that it will be an easy and (ideally free) fix.
Aww Malarky, hugs. It does sounds like the right move for your DD and L.
I was on Zoom ALL DAY, I'm exhausted. DS1 wanted a lightweight stroller for here. I found a used one in very good condition for 40E ($44) so we got it tonight. E doesn't really need one anymore, but it's good to have it when they're out all day. With 7 of us at home as of Sun, we wanted them to have the option lol. I unexpectedly did 1.5 days of orals for Job 2 this week. Tomorrow is a holiday here, so it's a long weekend. We FINALLY got instructions on marking those essays, so that's all I'm doing this weekend. I want to finish all 34 before the kids arrive on Sun. I'll have another final to mark but there's only 3 students, so I won't worry about that now.

Well the living room is now completely painted. I went ahead and steam cleaned the carpet and the carpet cleaner smelled horrible...so I will not be using it again. It was so bad that I had 3 windows open and the ceiling fan in the bedroom on along with a box fan. I ended up sprinkling the whole room with baking soda and that killed the scent. I was miserable there for a while.
So lastnight I had a window open a bit and had the DW on doing a cycle when I hear this weird noise and I immediately think that something moved and is getting hit by the DW blades. As I am going closer I realize that some punk kinds have gotten ahold of some fireworks and are lighting them off in the shopping center behind my place. I ended up closing the window and it stopped about 90% of the noise so that I could ignore it.

Crap about the smell snapdragon . When we had the carpet in DS2's room (now DH's office) replaced with parquet, the subfloor they spread (we had had subsidence) smelled AWFUL. I bought lavender oil, and sprinkled a few drops around the room twice a day. It took a couple of weeks but it REALLY helped!

Luckily for me it is the actual cleaner and not the machine which was my Dad's so I will use an all purpose cleaner instead like simple green and really dilute it down.

TheOtherMe , glad you received TP! This morning at Wally World, I scored TP, PT AND a few gallons of water, all in one trip. I felt very accomplished, LOL. The TP was a big package and cost $12.48. (ETA: the same price as Amazon, I just looked.) I swear the price has increased significantly.....

I managed to get my usual package from Sam's Club on Monday. I had luckily bought a package before we absolutely needed it. That package is over half gone so I've been checking the app. They finally had it online Monday and I was able to order. It has been shipped and will be here Thursday. Maybe by the time that's gone, my Sam's Club will finally get it back in stock.
My brother came Tuesday and replaced most of my receptacles and light switches with white ones. I gathered up all the old ones that didn't get put in the trash box and put all the remaining new stuff in one box.
I evicted dust bunnies and dusted the back of the TV stand yesterday when he had it pulled out. That's about the sum of my cleaning lately.

Trying to get everything sorted. Within the next 3 weeks, school is ending, I'm having surgery, and my graduate classes start back up. It's crazy around here right now.

Hi everyone! It has been awhile since I posted. My work-life decluttering has been going well since classes ended for the spring semester. I have 10 emails in my inbox -- it has been 11 years (when I first started my job) that I have been able to get caught up with email. I went into the office today "after hours" so no one would be there and cleaned out more files and threw out folders I don't use, etc. I'm planning to visit my parents who are in their mid-70s and are at high risk after Memorial Day weekend and am trying to minimize my contact with people. On the home front, DH has made great progress on our gear room. He custom built cubbies to store some of our biking gear, custom built drawers, made a counter top and bench top out of the wood from a tree we cut down 2 years ago and stained it. They look really good. I'm excited about his progress and can't wait to get all of the gear out of our guest room and organized in the new organizational system. On the home front, I mulched all of flower beds, weeded the flower beds, and cleared some of the flowers that had spread too much. I'm waiting for the Memorial Day sales at Lowes to buy more perennials and some annuals that I will hopefully be able to plant this weekend. We are supposed to have frost tonight and I need to make sure that this is the end of the cold nights. It seems like winter is not giving up this year.

My floor disaster turned out as okay. It was the best solution for what I was facing but not ideally fixed. Turns out the rot had gone through not only the underlayment but was also into the subfloor. To have a true fix where it would be gone forever would have required removing the front door, all the new siding around the door, probably would have had to remove the new porch light temporarily, and we would have had to remove the carpet in the hallway back to the next beam. Instead he dug it out until it was clean wood. He said it wasn't through more than half of the subfloor so we were okay structurally. Then he painted this stinky stuff that is supposed to stop the rot. Placed tar paper over it, in case there is ever more moisture there. Then put down some plywood over the part of the underlayment he removed. Apparently they are allowed to use plywood as underlayment for small areas like this was. Then he got his floor guy out who skim coated the whole thing and once it was dry took a piece of the vinyl that was left from the kitchen and laid that down. Tonight my entry way looks like it did last night before I started ripping things up, only this time there is just one layer of vinyl and not four. I also sent an e-mail to the owner of the siding company telling him how I was unhappy with their actions, so far no response. Tomorrow they will finish the trim around the door and in the entry way and the one little piece of hallway that leads up to the entry way.

Tomorrow I’m going to submit a complaint about the title company that handled my house sale, it is ridiculous how much they screwed up. At the time of the sale they misspelled my dads last name on half the paperwork and incorrectly listed that I was married. Since then they failed to split the proceeds as we indicated, they charged us for last month of utilities and then sent a refund, they charged us for taxes during closing and then the mortgage company had to send us a refund from the escrow account, they didn’t notify the insurance company so now I’m waiting on a refund from THEM, and today I find out they didn’t notify the utilities so I got a bill from the city water department.
So frustrated.
In related news, realtors in the Midwest are terrible - at least the ones I’ve reached out to for information. I sent an email so the listing agent of a property would email me and 30 seconds later got a phone call from some other agent I didn’t ask to speak to. He rudely asked if I was the buyers agent and when I said no he started to condescendingly explain that most people have a buyers agent call 🙄
I cut him off and said, “I didn’t ask for you to call me, didn’t give permission for you to call me and if you’re going to speak to me like I’m a moron I’m hanging up now.” And I did.
The ineptitudes of others is my burden in this life <— the name of my autobiography, probably

startsmart I'm sorry about the issues on the sale of your house. I empathize with you on the incompetency of realtors in the midwest. The one who sold my condo 17 years ago was a disaster and threatened to sue me! The one when I bought this house did pretty much nothing but show me the house. I was out of state and she didn't keep me informed about anything. It was the mortgage broker and the seller's realtor who got this house to close and not my realtor.

work is throwing in a bonus day off on Friday! So relieved! Will feel like a real break with 4 days... had 2 interviews this week, need to write thank you notes. One person requested 2 writing samples, 1 I have ready, not sure how to manage the 2nd. The one paper I was targeting for next publication is ripped to pieces and not yet put together again. Another has not had benefit of editing in a couple of years and crap - was I pretty bad at phraseology back then! Writing would be a big piece of this job, so need to have something good. But the ideas are equally important, so I'm torn on how to select something. Can I really whip a piece into shape quickly? The last time I thought - just go through with a quick edit - took me 4 months! Been nose into one for a day or so, and so still on abstract of 25 page paper! Many tables and figures of course! so just as an example of what I'm looking at this am: ....assessments are used to determine how to allocate those resources. ....assessments determine resource allocation. this kind of thing! I've relied on my good and original ideas to carry me and haven't until now really worked intensively on these mechanics of sentence (and paragraph) structure. So Everything I've written, and its a lot I'm wanting to get out there, needs pretty intensive rewriting on a sentence by sentence basis. Welp - it's never to late to get good, right? Meanwhile - the house is looking pretty rough! But I need to send out my thank yous and writing samples (and the samples do need to be full papers of original research). I could try to pull a very long day into night tonight to pull this paper into shape. Do the notes tomorrow. No way through but forward.... So - I'm decluttering sentences today . Will get that all sent out by Friday - one way or another! and then focus on household tasks over the weekend. And a bit of R and R!

Rukh O'Rorke, it may be a good time to establish a relationship with a freelance professional editor. Try looking at Efa.org. Then if/when you have similar urgent situations you can get help as you need it.

I fired the original selling agent that I had back in the Fall. When he sided with the mover that damaged the corners in my house--more correctly, he didn't side with me--and when he tried to tell me that the cleaning crew did a great job, I knew he had to go. They did do a pretty good job but it was "pretty good" for if someone isn't trying to sell a house. And because they didn't do a "get this house spick and span" clean, I didn't pay them for the second day. Seriously, what should have taken them only a day--based upon input from people who actually deep clean their houses--took them two days and was still dirty.
So, I fired the realtor.

I’m planning to venture out today for a grocery trip. We are still good on tp, so if I can’t find that it won’t be the end of the world. We could use a restock on PT, but who knows if I’ll find them. I’m mainly interested in stocking up on meat, as the prices keep climbing. Meijer still has a 2 pack limit on a lot of the “hot items”.
Honestly, I’m just really looking forward to some solo time. I haven’t had any since my last grocery trip 2 weeks ago. Mama is getting frazzled 🤪.

Then if/when you have similar urgent situations you can get help as you need it. I did use one for my dissertation. And it was helpful, and I would consider it again, but it wasn't everything. And I think I'm learning something about it/relearning how to do it. Plus also a lot of content and integrating the literature as I go to. Doing it better, question myself. So - it's good! Just time consuming. It'd be nice to have coauthors. But - that never really works out for me.....
