I thought of Chiver too, but also of how I used to react to the smell of cooking shellfish myself as a kid. Honestly, it doesn't bother me now, and I also associated the smell of Old Bay seasoning with shellfish so it sort of repels me too. I have never been sure if I was actually reacting to it or reacting to how my mom acted about having me even IN the kitchen while she was handling/cooking anything on the rare occasions she did so at home. There is a restaurant here in Memphis called Catfish Cabin which is in the neighborhood of one of the office buildings I once worked. I had to drive by the restaurant every work day. While not an allergy, I did have a negative mental reaction to it as the stench of deep frying oil wafting through the neighborhood air was so strong I felt the need for a shower. I like deep fried food on occasion but I won't cook deep fried food in my home due to the smell.

my little deep fryer was used for the first time indoors on NYE, and that was next to a window that was open about 3" for ventilation. I picked up a salmon portion ($4.xx) from the fish market when I went home to let the pups out. dinner will most likely be a blackened salmon Caesar salad. cost for the salad is negligible, romaine is approaching "use or pitch".

I'm making low carb clam chowder, cauliflower instead of potatoes. It's one of my favourites. I can't price it out, I got the ingredients before Christmas and I forget what I paid. I'm going to use chiver's "it was all about to go bad, so it's free"

Cancelled dinner out and had the leftovers at home. More stuff cleaned out of the fridge before we leave for the weekend.

We have pulled pork and spaghetti sauce in the fridge. I also have stock and deboned chicken to make wild rice soup but have plans to meet friends for a drink and dinner.

this salad did not suck. and, the portion was more than large enough that I was able to cut a chunk while removing the skin to bake unseasoned for the pups. they will get that tomorrow night. I'm going to scramble some eggs in the morning to mix in for them. tomorrow is all about spoiling the pups. 😁

I am allergic to oysters but so far haven't been to anyother seafood. I'm likely playing Russian roulette eating it but I do and I keep Benadryl around all the time.
I really didn't eat much today, my stomach is bothering me. I had left over spaghetti for dinner I didn't eat any about all I had today was an apple and milk. Hubs said this spaghetti didn't give him indigestion. Likely because I used home canned sauce, then loaded it with fresh veggies and mushrooms. Had whole wheat pasta with it last night. It was good.
I bet I have to stop the cholesterol drug again. I managed almost a month this time but I'm getting sick. Feel bad all over, stomach upset, just sick. I just fixed pudding for me for dinner, about all I could tolerate today. I feel like I'm blowing up like a balloon again, sigh. I did drink some instant coffee today, guess that will be a no no too.
About any purchased spaghetti sauce gives me indigestion too, I don't know what they put in it. I buy very little that is canned, I use my home canned veggies and fruits or fresh. Most of our meals are cooked from scratch and we have very little processed foods. I rarely deepfry anything. I do fry catfish if I have those and rarely fried chicken. I sometimes get hungry for it.
I'm not sure what I will eat once I'm no longer able to put up food. Most of my stuff is home grown or bought at a farmers market to put up.

In true SS style, I used some French's fried onions leftover from Christmas by crushing them in the food processor.

I forgot to take pork chops out of the freezer so it's left over clam chowder tonight.

DH’s fire department is holding a pre-Lenten fish fry tonight, so he’s bringing home shrimp. It’s either half price or free for the people who work, sp either 0 or $3.50. I have one orange left, so I’ll eat that with it.

Tonight we had wild caught salmon (I can't stand the taste of farm raised) $13.99 for 3 filets. Steamed broccoli...I think that was $1.48 for the bag. Brown rice...not sure how much that cost. It was in my pantry.

I marinated ~1.5 of BSCB sliced thinly, in a Weber black peppercorn marinade that I love. I fired that off on the grill pan to keep in the fridge for whatever use over the next few days. dinner tonight is linguine with mushroom cream sauce. I sliced up one piece of chicken to stir in. imanangel, I can see why you were making inappropriate noises when you made it. I'm pretty sure I'd be asked to leave a restaurant lol... this is definitely getting put in my recipe book, thank you!

All I had today was a small but perfect avocado with salt and pepper and a bit of potatoes fried in duck fat.
$1.00?
I'm just not very hungry.

We had fried catfish, home made French fries, and cole slaw. Hubs doesn't like fish so only ate 1 piece. My stomach is bothering me so didn't eat as much as usual. I bought chicken thighs, going to make a big pot of chicken broth and freeze it in containers. I agree with hubs, I don't like the canned or packaged chicken broth. I made noodles for Christmas and didn't have time to make broth and they tasted like boughten noodles, yuck. So going to fix this. Weight watchers has recipes for chicken, beef, and vegetable stock. Need to make it, its a large quantity.
I fried the fish on the little stove outside on the porch as I like fish but don't want to smell it for days. Man was it COLD out there, brrr.

I have a big pot of water and a bunch of chicken thighs in it. Going to boil and make a big pot of chicken broth to freeze in containers. We don't like noodles or rice made from boughten chicken broth. Put 4 in the instant pot to fix with some rice. The dog will have lots of bones and skin to eat and probably a thigh or two. He will be happy.

We are at my grandma's and she made a pot of chili.
Last night 4 of us had dinner at the local italian place to celebrate my grandma's birthday. My DH paid. Total with tip was $89.
Sunday will be something out as we will be driving back to our house and it's a 5 hour drive.

Southwest steak bowls tonight. And probably a couple of nights after that. I’m trying to cook more at home, but I suck at making portions for only one meal.

So tonight was pork chops and veggies. ISO and GS2 each had a baked potato.
I'm guessing $8 for the pork chops, $1 for veggies and $1 for potatoes. $10 for 3 of us with a pork chop left over.

After spending my whole months food allowance stocking up in 12 days. Tonight hubs went and got a pizza, but I did make a lemon meringue pie.

(unmarked in the freezer ) Food network Jerk sauce (just in case) $1.78 Salad, mashed potatoes, and still thinking on the veggie. Possibly spaghetti and garlic bread on Monday.

football snacks for brunch, so dinner will be healthier for me at least. yesterday I prepped mixed salad greens for a few days worth of easy salads. I can cut up a grilled chicken piece and some extra veggies easy peasy.
$1 each for a romaine heart and iceberg head, $1.25 for half a head of radicchio, 50 cents(?) for a handful of baby spinach.

Thursday night was spaghetti and home made meatballs. Friday night was home made pizza. We get the dough from an Italian deli in Dallas. Last night was tortellini with peas and pancetta in an Alfredo sauce. Tonight will be penne pasta with crawfish in a vodka sauce. Lots of past this week, but I needed to use up things out of the freezer.

I don't know what to make for dinner this week. I need something healthy and not boring. I put my Home Chef on pause because I realized the calories were pretty high on the meals. I used it because I HATE meal planning. It is like torture for me.
Any recommendations for healthy, cheap, and not boring meals?

This morning I took some old cookbooks out of the cabinet (been meaning to go thru that cabinet anyway) for ideas. I tried Blue Apron. Food was good, but expensive. Prep time was long... Still working on it.

I have my crockpot going, but I'm not sure what it is going to be. I just wanted to use up some stuff. Dried pinto beans, onion, carrot, a potato (all cubed), some cumin and chili powder. I added water and turned it on. I have to say, it smells really good.
