I looked at Weight Watchers, I knew hubs and DD were going to be out of luck, little pasta, well of course. But I'm making them spaghetti. I will load the sauce with veggies and a bit of ground pork and I do have whole wheat pasta which thankfully, they like. Found a bunch a pound for $.50 each, and bought several boxes of it. I'm tired, up early, stayed up to late last night and no nap. When DS was small, he didn't like vegetables. When I made spaghetti sauce, I loaded it with vegetables, then put it through the blender. He loved it and didn't see any vegetables.

My nori sheets came today so cooking sushi rice just used plain water, not sure if I need to use chicken broth or anything. Will try this first, it says add rice vinegar, sugar, and something else when done. I will try making some tonight.
Need to see if I have any garlic bread for to eat with the spaghetti.

Ok, so I ended up thawing the chicken breast in the microwave. It worked out okay. So I had chicken stir fry.
2 big chicken breasts $6 a red and a yellow pepper $2 one yellow onion $0.50 I'll allow $0.50 for olive oil and seasoning and $0.50 for the quinoa I'm making for ISO to go with it.
$9.50 for 3 of us.
And I'm sticking to my low carb eating.

I opted for chicken parm, all I had to do was turn on the oven for the chicken and boil some pasta. done.

It was GOOD! My roll was rolled ok, but I can make it better, it comes with a frame and track to roll it with. But heck, the rice and veggies are just good on a plate with pickled ginger. I will get some artificial crab and have shrimp to make some seafood ones. I paid almost $7 for a small roll of this stuff. I bet there isn't $.50 in a roll of sushi. The ready made we buy is ok, but is stale in short order, have to eat it quick.
I was spending about $22 a week for sushi, ouch!

do you have a Whole Foods near you? I get quarter and half lb portions of sushi grade tuna and salmon, frozen, from them. if you and DD want to go nuts a couple days in a row, that's probably a good option.

She only likes veggy and I like with crab which she will eat, we don't do raw fish. Now I have bought sushi tuna, yes its expensive and canned it. It made the BEST tuna salad I ever put in my mouth but we could get it fresh down there and it was awesome.
But we loved this tonight, ahhh. We are eating through our pickled ginger from New York, I don't know if we can get that kind again, I can't find it on the internet.

I got some pork lo mein from the village market when I went home at lunch. $8, those meals invariably get me two meals, so it's okay. well, not today. I actually tried to mop up the extra sauce, which tasted like liquid sugar. so I did my best to just pick the pork out of the mess and call it good. the rest went in the garbage, so tonight will be something that has leftovers for me to bring to work tomorrow. I'll either make chicken parm out of the last two cutlets I fried Sunday, or make a batch of pasta with mushroom cream sauce that I've been craving since imanangel posted it on FB a few days back. honestly, the cream sauce will be even less sweet than the tomato sauce, that might be the decision maker for me today. The cream sauce for that pasta dish isn't sweet at all. It doesn't have any sugar in the recipe at all.

Dinner ended up costing me $27 dollars tonight. I bought sushi for the family, and then I went to a wine and pizza night at our local wine store. The wine was good, the pizza was Papa John's, so it sucked!

Our fridge was turning into the place leftovers go to die, so we ate a few random things tonight. Would do it again tomorrow, but I have to go to a thing with food right after work for work. If I can smuggle out enough for DH and DD, dinner will be free! If not, hopefully I can supplement the random fridge stuff with some free stuff.

I like to make sashimi with fresh tuna or salmon, with sticky sushi rice.

I don't use sugar in mine, either, I slice green bell peppers into it while simmering.

healthyeating.sfgate.com/nutritional-quality-fake-crabmeat-1119.html Just an part of the link.
Interesting read if concerned about healthy eating, etc. Of course I will say I eat a lot of sushi so I tend to be conscious of the ingredients.
Nutritional Value
The nutritional value of fake crab meat differs from real crab meat because of its ingredients. A 3-ounce serving of imitation crab provides 51 calories, 6.5 grams of protein, 0.4 gram of fat and close to 13 grams of carbohydrates. The sodium content of fake crab meat is very high, with 715 milligrams per serving, which corresponds to about a third of all the sodium you should eat in a day.

it's more of a mental block for me, since I'm allergic to actual crab. plus, I feel like processing the imitation crab is more likely to run the risk of cross-contamination. either way, hard pass for me too.

Boy, 11, dies from apparent allergic reaction to smell of cooking fishI feel just awful for this family. I am assuming they didn't realize how bad his allergy was? My son is allergic to shellfish, so I don't cook shellfish at home. When we go to a restaurant, we always tell the waiter or waitress that he is allergic to avoid any cross contamination. I have seen that boy swell up just by having a shrimp held up to his face (his sister was mad at him and decided to wave a shrimp in his face...yes, she got in a shitload of trouble). The shrimp never touched him that time, and he still swelled up.

I feel for folks who have allergies of any kind. Scary to say the least.

Something out tonight. We are meeting my brother and catching up over dinner. He didn't go home for christmas so I have his presents with me.
We do have leftovers but we've been trying to set this up since christmas. I am okay with ones like this. I'm trying to cut back on the eating out just because we failed to plan.

I'll have to inquire within, but I don't think our local Thai place uses imitation in their rolls. Side note: Last time I bought "real" canned crab, it was $15.99. Worth it, though, as a splurge.

Honestly, it doesn't bother me now, and I also associated the smell of Old Bay seasoning with shellfish so it sort of repels me too. I have never been sure if I was actually reacting to it or reacting to how my mom acted about having me even IN the kitchen while she was handling/cooking anything on the rare occasions she did so at home.
