I would say that's a lot of calories. Eek. Are the dishes filling enough that you can split them between dinner and lunch the next day? My typical day has breakfast around 200 calories, lunch around 300, and dinner around 500 or less. I have a morning and mid-day snack in there as well. Since I'm not running anymore I don't need all the calories. I'm sorry you are also dealing with helping your daughter lose weight and figure out her food issues. Has she always been an overeaters or is it a recent thing? Learning how to cut the calories, get used to it, and stick with it is hard! My Fitness Pal really helps me get a good idea of what I am putting into my body. I started using it in 2012 when I did my big weight loss year and it really helped me figure out portions (and figure out how to keep booze in my life!). I still use it just to keep myself in check. eek, that's like starvation levels for me! But I would agree that 800+ calories for a meal is a lot. I really need to go back to MFP and stick to it. BTW I tried a Barre3 30 min workout this morning... I'm ready for bed now. Lol, I do have snacks during the day! And obviously I blow that plan on burrito days. If I really stick with my daily eating plan I consume roughly 1400 calories a day. Good job! Barre3 is tough but so good!

Weighed myself this morning - 158, down .5. I'll take it. I didn't eat very well this week - it is a struggle. I did walk on the treadmill 3 times this week (in a row). I did not walk last night and I will not today - I will do weights for my arms today. I will walk on the treadmill Saturday and Sunday. Probably do weights again on Sunday.

it really was tough. I almost had a heart attack when the instructor said the workouts are usually an hour, LOL! I did modifications for some of the moves and also took short breaks, but holy crap I definitely got my sweat and burn on. I may have to get into something even more low impact though because my psoas (sp?) muscle on my right leg and my left sciatic nerve are really starting to struggle. It must be affecting some of my poses/posture because now both of my knees are starting to ache. I usually reserve long walks/light hikes for spring/summer/fall, but I may have to layer up and get out there. And/or go shopping for a proper swimsuit and make use of the YMCA pool.

So, I thought I was doing good by using Home Chef to cook more dinners at home, but then I noticed that most of the recipes are like 860 calories per serving. That seems like a lot of calories for 1 meal. Is that a lot of calories for 1 meal? I am also frustrated because my daughter asked me to help her lose the weight she gained on the Mirena. Unfortunately, I don't think her weight gain was just from the Mirena. I think she is seriously addicted to food. For example, I made a pasta dish the other night with garlic bread. It was about 867 calories per serving, after eating dinner, she got in her car and went and got boba tea and McDonalds. This happens a lot. Or, she won't want what I made for dinner, so she will go buy a pizza and then proceed to eat almost the entire thing. Her Dr. put in a referral for her to go to a nutritionist because she is way overweight for her size. Her sugar level was pre-diabetic levels. Unfortunately, she has missed a lot of school from us trying to get her birth control fixed, and the nutritionist usually only has morning appointments. I tried to get her to go walking with me at night, but she always tells me she is too tired. I am not sure what else to do to help her. I would say that's a lot of calories. Eek. Are the dishes filling enough that you can split them between dinner and lunch the next day? My typical day has breakfast around 200 calories, lunch around 300, and dinner around 500 or less. I think we had a poster (can't remember who) that did Whole 30 or Paleo or a similar diet who said they had trouble eating as much food as is in their diet plan. Overeating doesn't necessarily have to be a problem if you're eating the right foods. There are lots of zero calorie foods that can be eaten. McDonald's is not it, but maybe if she eats as much as she wants and just makes smarter choices that would help. Exercise is obviously important too, if she wasn't eating a bunch of crap, she'd have the energy to exercise.

Carbs make you crave more carbs. This. One of the best meals I had when I was actively losing weight was a petite cut top sirloin steak and half a baked potato with butter and/or sour cream. Plus, a basic salad. The steak really keeps you feeling full. Carbs do not.

I'm back to about 400 calories per meal, except dinner is unknown, but reasonable. Any less, and I get hungry. I really should get back to tracking in MFP, but I still have a feel for what I can eat. (And it gets to be a pain figuring out all the ingredients.)
I tried the first half of the barre3 on YouTube. I would have finished, but the video for stuck. I liked it better than the one in-person class I took. There's still a bit of an issue with too much flexing without balancing it with stretching, but not nearly as bad as the other class.
Im trying to figure out how best to fit in exercise now that I'm working full time. Maybe I'll just focus mostly on the weekends. We'll see. I'm only weighing weekends now, so I'll know tomorrow if I'm doing enough to lose the extra I gained the last couple months.

We have a lot of carb heavy meals, mostly for budgetary reasons... and also because carbs are yummy. I can't afford to have steak on even a bi-weekly basis let alone a few times a week, and I can only have chicken so many times before that gets boring. Guess I'll have to start getting pork chops when they are on sale as a cheaper meat alternative. Hopefully DS will like them. I'm really trying not to make a separate meal for DS, so I do need to keep in mind what he will eat. Tonight it's turkey meatball sandwiches with a vegetable - probably baby carrots for DS and who knows for me.... I might pick up a light Caesar salad kit for myself. I'm in the mood for it now.

Good fish - especially wild caught - isn't any cheaper than steak. The bag of frozen tilapia fillets is though. But fish... I have tried several types and despise most of it... a lot of it is a texture issue. I did get a small bag of bay scallops that I'll pan fry with garlic, spinach, and olive oil and then eat with pasta sometimes, but that's all I have in the freezer right now. DS whines nonstop when I cook it. I'll have to research more ways to cook tilapia or flounder - seems I can tolerate the white fish better than the others. My high school BFF did give me some lox/smoked salmon to try over the Christmas break... that stuff was bomb.com! I will gladly eat that again, but it isn't cheap either.

I was surprised to find that my kids--even my youngest who's extremely picky--love pork. The betty Crocker recipe book oven fried pork chops. Unfortunately, the breading adds carbs, but it's worth it for me to have something the kids don't bitch about.

I got a huge bag of tilapia fillets at Sam's for $10. We had some for dinner last night. I put seasoned salt and pepper on it and pan fry in a drizzle of olive oil. Google says a tilapia fillet is 112 calories. I serve it with steam in bag veggies. Depending on the type, the whole bag is at most 150 calories. It would be a 262 calorie dinner plus whatever calories the oil adds which is minimal with no carbs providing you can eat that much at one time. Sometimes when I'm on my own for meals, I'll just have a bag of veggies.

I could go to town on some smoked salmon all day, every day!

MJ2.0 Will your son eat bean dishes? It's what I live on. When my DD lived at home, I use to make Mexican food with no meat, and she never noticed. Cheap and healthy.

I could go to town on some smoked salmon all day, every day! Me too. My son goes to Kodiak every other year and keeps me in salmon. He also smokes some for me on occasion. Can I say how lucky I am?

She used to hoard food in her room and steal other kids' lunches at school. She had a lot of food insecurities. We thought we had resolved that problem. Now she doesn't hoard food or steal food, she just eats everything in sight. Honestly, her eating a lot was never really a problem until she got the Mirena, and then she ballooned up. Now she is 4'10" and 152 pounds. She used to be 100 pounds before she got it. Anyway, maybe I need to look into more food options for her and keep little containers of food in the fridge for her to eat for snacks and other meals when I am not home....I don't know what to do anymore. Tonight for dinner I am making salmon, steamed broccoli, and brown rice. Hopefully it isn't too "boring" for her and she doesn't drive to McDonald's afterwards. I honestly do not get her obsession with fast food. I find it gross.

SUCCESS!!! She ate the dinner, said it was good, and said that she was completely full afterwards! So, our dinner was about 540 calories. The fish said it was 240 calories per filet, a little salt and pepper, lemon and dill. steamed broccoli said it was 30 calories for 3/4 cup and I tossed it with 1 tbs spoon of olive oil -120 calories brown rice 150 calories.

How about salsa or other low/no calorie seasonings for the chicken? I’m not a huge fan of chicken breast, but salsa is really low calorie and can completely change the flavor. Not just tomato salsa either. Peach, mango...

I've lost another .5k/1lb. Just 1.6 k/3.5 lbs left to goal weight. I'm on about 800 calories/day. Otherwise I don't lose weight (I don't really exercise.) This is the point at which I always think, hey I'm doing great, let's have Chinese food! And then I have to lose that last kilo YET AGAIN. I'm trying not to do that this time.

Whole wheat pastas, brown rice instead of white, etc. Another thing I did is I made a list of high protein foods, one of high fiber foods, and one of zero calorie foods. I try and get as many of those in as possible. I do still eat a little crap every now and then, but for the most part, I try to eat clean. At the end of the day, she has to be the one who makes changes if she wants to lose the weight.

I think I am going to send her to the 100 Days of Real Food website and have her look over the lunch ideas and pick some for me to prepare for her. Yes, she is 17 and could do it herself, but she won't. I can pack a a couple of days at a time, she can eat them when she gets home from school. She is a senior and has early release. Maybe this way she will eat the good food and not run to McDonald's.
Also, I have my Fitbit charging and plan to increase my walking every day. I also need to increase my water intake. I need to buy some more fruit to put in my water. I like how that tastes.

Have you tried flavored sparkling water? I drink it instead of soda. Maybe having that in the house will help you both. It's way cheaper than soda as well. Walmart has their brand in liters and cans. It's sweet, but it's got to be way better for you than soda. I drink the unsweetened kind, but not everyone likes that. You can even get it at Aldi. Just ditching soda will help tremendously. Would she utilize a gym membership? If you found one with a class she likes, maybe she would go.

It's sweet, but it's got to be way better for you than soda. I drink the unsweetened kind, but not everyone likes that. You can even get it at Aldi. Just ditching soda will help tremendously. Would she utilize a gym membership? If you found one with a class she likes, maybe she would go. I actually do not drink soda. It is too sweet for me. I drink unsweetened tea, water with fruit chunks, or unsweetened sparkling water from HEB. She drinks sweet tea and a lot of boba tea. She does drink lots of water with lemon or lime in it. I don't think she really drinks soda either. I don't buy it for the house, so if she does, she is doing it when she eats out. I don't think she would use a gym membership. Her boyfriend is big on working out and she hated going to the gym with him. I can ask her about a gym membership, just not sure she would use it.

If she doesn't like going with people, maybe she would like going alone and taking a class. A lot of gyms have classes included. If she's going to lose weight and be healthy, she's going to have to get active. She needs to find something that she likes to do and just do it. Most gyms don't have contracts anymore either, so if she doesn't go, you can just cancel the membership.

I’ve FINALLY found some veggies that my DH will eat, besides canned corn. Tonight I’m making brussel sprouts to go with our prime rib. One our new year’s goals is to eat more veggies.
It’s so hard to make dinners that are interesting and not boring and healthy when you are married to a man with the palette of a toddler.

I do a certain amount of hiding vegetables like I’m feeding a toddler with mine. I lie a lot about what I’m serving for dinner, too. If he thinks he’s eating something he likes, he’s fine. Several years ago we went out to eat with friends. DH was shoveling the appetizer in with both hands, talking about how good it was, why hadn’t I ever ordered it before, etc. then he asked what it was. Calamari our friend said. Toddler style, DH quit eating it and has never had another bite. (Except in the seafood stew I make using Trader Joe’s seafood medley. But what he doesn’t know won’t take another delicious food off my menu!)

Ugh, my husband would eat hamburgers and pizza every day if he could. I do not understand. Even when we lived in Italy, and the pizza was amazing, I couldn't eat it every day!
