I don't usually participate in this thread, but I had a workout question that I thought I might get a good response here. I am doing a month long HIIT/rotation of body weight workouts plus some cardio. Today's workout is supposed to be run a mile for time. I can't run outside today (seriously, I'm pretty hardcore, but with 30 Mph winds, windchills at -11 and falling, not to mention a foot of snow on the ground, it isn't going to happen). I don't have a treadmill. I do have a recumbent bike. Would 3 miles on the bike with resistance be a good substitute? What else could I substitute for that work out? Don't the handles on the recumbent bike move? If so, I'd say so. At the end of the day any movement is better than none. No the handles don't move. It is a sit back back. It isn't a great work out, but I upped the resistance and did my best. Also noted, I am leaking again doing jumping jacks. Back to doing kegals and get that issue under control.

Catching up ... DH makes Belgian waffles once per week, pancakes once per week, french toast once per week; the other days we have either bagels, English muffins, or hashbrowns. Knee Deep in Water Chloe all that stuff is super high carb/high calorie. Plus, you don't eat those (very delicious!) things plain, I'm guessing you add maple syrup/jam/honey too. Would your DH agree to do EITHER waffles OR pancakes OR French toast once a week? Or else do TWO of those items per week instead of all three? IOW rotate them over two weeks, twice a week, rather than having all of them once a week. Other option/suggestion, get Joseph's sugar free maple (flavored) syrup. I bought that on Iggy's suggestion. I use it to flavor my Greek yoghurt. DH and I have been talking about the Mediterranean diet. We definitely eat too much meat / protein, especially DH.
Last week I cracked and asked DH to make oatmeal. I LOVE it and really missed it. I've started eating it again occasionally.
Oh, oatmeal makes the rotation every other week or so.
Um, I don't know what to do with DH and his breakfasts. We've been doing this for over ten years. He loves breakfast. I may have more luck cutting out dinner. I tend to do well with a small or no dinner. It's when I stay up late and snack/eat late that I really have problems. I also love breakfast. I really need to try the 8am-4pm intermittent fasting I think.

I am on the stridekick challenges still (thank you [img src="http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/smile.gif" class="smile" alt=" " src="//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png"] ), and finally up to focusing on some stuff again. Started this year with 15lbs to go. Dropped 6 quickly with cutting out junk and now it's to the hard part. These last 9 are going to take some work. I have been getting in my steps every day. Usually just in my house, haha! 5 miles around the living room is getting old. I need warm weather And I'm tracking my food in Fitbit too. Alcohol is my weakness. Beers or wine at night is way too much of a habit. I like LaCroix so trying to find a flavor that will sub for me. It's a lot cheaper than alcohol too [img src="http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/wink.png" alt=" " class="smile" src="//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png"] Do you think you have lost any weight walking around your living room? I do that also but after 20 to 30 minutes I quit, mainly because I do it after work and my work consists of carrying heavy items while walking and walking all day. But the doctor said I needed to do extra exercise in order to lose weight because my body is adjusted to my work load. I have a Wii walking game I play a lot and a lot of Leslie Sansone walking tapes. But mostly I just don't seem to have the motivation to get moving.

Feburary is going to be focused on weight lifting instead of steps. I'll still participate in the step challenge, but I'm not going to be as big a contender as I am now. I still have flab on my arms and I really want to get rid of most of it. I need to focus more on weight lifting. I think I will see results a lot faster. But by the time I get home from work I am exhausted and just try to get in steps. I lift heavy things all day at work but I need to start a routine at home and stick to it. I love cardio but I don't think I will see much change in my body unless I do a lot more weight lifting.

If you're already weight lifting and walking, I wonder if short intense bursts of cardio wouldn't do more for you.

I think my problem is that I am not doing enough of it. This week I did one weight lifting session and one walking session. I think I need to do something every day. I will try the short bursts of cardio. I am open to anything because I just can't budge this weight.

I have quite a few of Leslie Sansone dvd's. The latest I bought is The Miracle Miles. That one does me in every time. It is five miles of walking while using a resistance band. There are no fancy steps to learn so I am good with it.

She also has a YouTube channel and lots of vids on there. I use them every once in a while. I keep stopping and starting lately so I've been using Burn 30 for the most part.

I've found that regular exercise doesn't help me lose weight, it just keeps me from gaining weight. Now, if I do "daily doubles", then that can help lose weight.

this weekend, I'm working on clearing out the fridge before I leave for my cruise on Thursday. I bought some veggies this morning, but not much and most of them can be diced for the pups if I don't get to them. the Brussels sprouts, maybe not so much lol.... but the unhealthiest thing about dinner tonight was the "everything bread" I sliced to go with it. that's a win we went to the dog park this morning and I got in a ton of steps and throwing of tennis balls for whatever pup wanted to retrieve them. and I've been walking around a ton more with the new job, too. I will work on quantifying things when I get back from the cruise. I've already recognized the improvement on my mental health with the new job, that's huge

My husband is not letting me have dessert because we had pizza for dinner. I'm both appreciative and annoyed.

When I was running regularly I was losing inches anyway. I am going to try to start that back up and see if it helps.

I wish I was a runner. I'd be so much thinner.
On a good note, I actually did go to the gym today. Yay.

I've always said I have the hands and feet of someone 5'10 and the arm span of Michael Jordan. Just stopped growing at 5'4 and therefore look a little "round"

Did not workout at all this weekend, but at least I ate decently. Saturday was a packed day so no time to exercise so I planned to do it Sunday. Saturday night I wiped out on a patch off ice (so embarrassing) and was feeling sore yesterday so it was a couch day. At least hubs got caught up to where I am with The Americans and we can start bingeing together! Weight was at 153.4 this morning.

I have a friend who teaches dance--often eight classes a day--and her doctor kept telling her she wasn't losing weight because she was eating too much; that she should restrict her intake to 1500 calories/day. The woman was burning THOUSANDS of calories per day but that's what her doctor advised. She finally saw someone new, someone with a brain. They told her: "Eat like a football player." She worked her way up to eating nearly 3000 calories/day and guess what? Her body started responding positively. It saw that she was no longer starving herself. Now, the numbers are merely a gauge. It gave her a target. It's easier to tell someone to strive for a specific number of calories (or macros or whatever) than to say "Eat 12 cups of veggies, 20 oz of lean meat, etc" because calories is a common denominator in food. So, that's why I don't strive for a specific calorie count. I strive to eat foods that don't activate my allergies. My point: Listen to your body and tune out the naysayers.

I have a number of friends that are very into CrossFit, including eating a Paleo diet. I tried that one once, and ended up in the ER because my body couldn't handle it. so now, when I see people dipping a toe in the CF/P lifestyle and asking questions of those friends on social media, I chime in with exactly that - make sure you listen to your body, because any dramatic change is going to affect different people differently. this may be awesome for you, great. but it might also be harmful, so don't ignore things. as far as your friend, that is my sister. she was steadily packing on a few pounds a year for almost all of her adult life, all the while being a very active person who meal planned I'd say about 80% super healthy meals. it took until probably 7 or 8 years ago for her to finally receive an autoimmune diagnosis, which came along with some food restrictions. as she worked her way through that, she was still on a roller coaster with weight and general health. maybe a year ago, she discovered some more updated literature about her AI and even more food restrictions. after cutting out the new restrictions, she dropped about 40lbs in 6mo and says that now she isn't in a haze - similar to when a celiac gets contaminated. she's actually absorbing nutrients appropriately now that she isn't being essentially poisoned, and she is hardly ever hungry like she was before - when she wasn't getting anything out of her food except bloat and skin reactions.

Went to the gym yesterday with a guy from my gym family. He said he was intimidated by lifting weights. I told him I'd do the rowing machine with him if he lifted weights with me. I was able to lift heavier than him, which I found interesting. I also now have sore shoulders from the rowing machine and my legs need to roll over the foam roller. It was good though. I could have done more, but my mom texted me that she was cooking and to come eat and I had priorities. I did get a little over an hour in though.
