Just like last year, I have to go back for some more images from the mammogram. I don't want to do this.

TheO I'm sorry. I usually need more images too (plus an ultrasound). In fact this was literally the first time I can remember that I DIDN'T need more images or the ultrasound.
But I don't get making you come back! For me, they make me stand there topless until the doc approves the images. It can last quite a while and it's never fun or comfortable, but I have never needed to go back. Once it lasted for literally an hour for the additional images, but usually it's 30 min, and then the ultrasound.
Is this standard procedure in the US?! Might there be another place where you wouldn't have to go back? You need to go back, unfortunately. Better safe than sorry. But then I'd take your mammogram and try to book elsewhere next time.

Hugs, TheO. I BTDT twice this year concerning two different medical procedures. I think the worry is worse than the actual procedure.

Speaking of docs, the right-wing gyn found an issue (a minor one thankfully). He sent me an email with a letter explaining the problem, a scrip for treatment, and the results of my pap smear. I called him, he took my call immediately, and explained everything. So now I'm REALLY REALLY torn because although I think he's a lousy human being, he is clearly a good doc.
I have basically decided to follow through with him for now until this issue is resolved (since it's a gyn issue and not just the osteoporosis) and then find someone else for next year.

I cannot imagine being told hey we didn't like your mammogram, come back. Here they just keep you there till they get the photos they need. But I guess it's different there? I totally agree with Iggy aka IG , the worrying is the worst part. I'm sorry you have to worry TheOtherMe (and that Iggy aka IG had to worry). That just ain't right. ETA: When I book online, the site warns me that there is no doctor present at certain times (and gives me those times). So I always book when I know the doc is there.
Could that be the issue?

Anyone I know who has had to do a 2nd mammogram had to go back a week later or whenever. My friend goes to a place that has digital images, she's never been called back in.

CL, my place does digital images too. Maybe that's the key?
ETA: Or both, ie digital imaging AND a doc there at the time?

It could be. I have not yet been tortured in that manner but I plan to go to the digital place, wherever it may be located.

You're lucky LOL Chocolate Lover . TheO, crazy thought, but if the issue is digital imaging, maybe next time you and your sis can have a Girls' Day Out together?! (I'm guessing the digital place might be a bit further, so that way you can go together.) My late Mom was very difficult but my sister used to book their appointments together and they'd go out to lunch before or after. Just a thought.

Thanks, debthaven. Let's just say the doc from worry-session #1 earlier this year is no longer practicing in our area. (It wasn't mammo related.) Our local place does 3D digital images as well.

This was a 3D image and there were lots of radiologists on duty. This is the way it's done here. They have you come back. I wish they would have me wait and just do it.
I don't have options about where to get this done--unless I want to drive for a couple of hours and I'm not doing that.
I have dense breasts. I looked in the patient portal. Last year, it was the right breast. Turned out to be cysts. This time, it's the left breast.
I was a basket case last year by the time they did more images and then decided to do the ultrasound. I was shaking during the ultrasound.
Of course, they tell you nothing. Last year, I drove home and got a call from my own doctor that afternoon that it was cysts and not to worry.
Today, there were several patients in wheel chairs or motorized scooters. The dressing rooms they provide were not big enough to accommodate the chairs. They had someone helping them in to the gown in a larger room but the door was open. I was astounded.

TheOtherMe , I've been called back once, and yes, it is nerve wracking. Good for you for taking care of your health. I'm surprised at how many people don't get routine exams. Mammos, annuals, colonoscopy, etc.

When I went to take dad for groceries this morning, he didn't answer the phone. When I got to his apartment, his newspaper had not been taken inside.
He was still in bed. He looked so vulnerable. He didn't want to go with me to get groceries. I looked in the fridge while he was getting dressed. It looked just like it did last week. He has not been eating.
Called sister and we are going to talk to him about moving to assisted living. Tuesday for sure. She kind of wants her kids to go and then it would have to be over the weekend.
He seems to have given up and I don't blame him.

The painter called and he can come tomorrow. I explained a few details about dad and said I just can't tomorrow and I want to wait until after Thanksgiving. He assured me he will do it in December.
Sometimes I have to take care of myself and I can't have painters in here tomorrow while I'm worrying about dad and myself. I just can't do it.

My guess in the US they have far more technicians doing exams than doctors to read them. I also bet that the sue happy environment here plays into it. If the doctor is trying to read multiple exams in rapid succession and makes a mistake, they'll be sued. Better for them to read it later and take more time.
Having to make another appointment and go back is very inconvenient though.

I have things in boxes they need to go but I don't have time until Monday to get them completely gone. I will stick them in the car trunk so that they are out of my space and easily donated though. I have other things I need to work on but I am just not feeling up to it. Even though I will be dashing around Monday when I have a contractor coming in to get estimates on the kitchen.

Party update. We're at 52 "yes" + 10 9 "dunno yet". I wrote to 8 "dunnos" to try to find out. (I did NOT write to two of the singles to ask if they were bringing a plus one or not, blech.)
There are 8 people from work I'd like to invite, but only if there are fewer than 60 people total. I have a psychological barrier to having more than 60 ppl here. (It's probably PTSD from when DH invited 125 people to his 60th, didn't ask for an RSVP and 87 turned up.)
Of the 8 people from work I'd like to invite, I know two live too far. I know they won't come (even though she's my best friend at work).

Mammos, annuals, colonoscopy, etc. I dont get mammograms because of the same issue. I do all other routine checks, but no mammograms. I did one a couple years ago and it was very painful and they told me the same - dense tissue etc.etc. I wonder if so many people have the same issue why can't they figure something better suited to that.

saveinla Yesterday's mammogram was very painful. If this turns out to be benign cysts like it did last year, I think I'm not doing any more mammograms.

Friends, I think it is a TERRIBLE idea to decide not to do any more mammograms. I too have dense breasts, and cysts. I am visibly extremely lucky to spend some VERY anxious hours there but to walk out with the results later that day.
So space it out if you want ... add another 6 months or even a year if you really feel you need to. Do them 1.5 times or even twice less often than you're told to.
