I also despise getting mammograms and have been called back twice (2 days after). Both ended up being fine but being in that mental place until you hear positive outcome is NOT fun. I do not schedule them at exactly one year, probably closer to every 2 years which Dr. is not happy about.

Friends, I think it is a TERRIBLE idea to decide not to do any more mammograms. I too have dense breasts, and cysts. I am visibly extremely lucky to spend some VERY anxious hours there but to walk out with the results later that day. So space it out if you want ... add another 6 months or even a year if you really feel you need to. Do them 1.5 times or even twice less often than you're told to. BUT I AM BEGGING YOU, MY FRIENDS, PLEASE DO NOT STOP DOING THEM!!! There are too many people here who care about you, not to mention the people in real life! ETA: reposted to make sure TheOtherMe and saveinla saw my post (since saveinla and I posted at exactly the same time.) PLEASE reconsider, my friends. Thanks for the concern debthaven. I know I have to go in - its been almost 3 years. I can tolerate a lot of pain but this one was horrible. I will try and make it later in December since I have hit my deductible for the year.

I also have similar issues with dense breasts and have been getting the digital 3D mammograms the last several years. Somehow I don't feel as much pain with the new procedure but that may be just my perception. I have been called back in the past and it is nerve wrecking but I go. During my last few years of teaching at least 2 or 3 ladies who worked in the school were diagnosed with breast cancer. All of them had dense breasts and were able to catch it early. Please do not neglect this procedure.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do it saveinla . <3 I have ALWAYS had to do a mammo every year, AND I have had to get the ultrasound as well. Last year was the first time in decades that they suddenly decided that now I only need to go in every 18 months instead of every 12 months. I'm not clear on WHY they decided that, but I'll take it. Like my sister always tells me ... if YOU don't take care of yourself, who will?!

I will reconsider. If I do get another one, it's going to be an every other year thing.
I've opted out of pap tests and as long as there are no symptoms, I'm not having another one of those. My doctor is in agreement on that one.

I will try tomorrow to see if it's possible to be seen tomorrow. They told me the only opening on Monday was at the same time as my therapist appointment and I am not cancelling that appointment. If I try to reschedule my therapist, it will be about 6 weeks and I can't wait that long to see her.

And my dad says: Be an advocate for your health. If you cannot, find someone who will. (Count me in with the dense breasts crowd.) No, it's not fun. What I do to make it more bearable is get it done first thing in the morning, I don't "watch" during the procedure, and I buy myself a treat after (Starbucks, donuts, whatever).

I wish I could teleport the "dense breast" crowd here so we could all hang out together for a few hours and all leave with our results (and all go out for a late breakfast or lunch together per Iggy's suggestion). But since that's not possible, let's all hold each other's virtual hands.

I haven't had a mammogram in 10 years now, but I know I should. I'm 59. I haven't had a Pap in 6 years, but that's fine; I'm in a long-term monogamous relationship for 17 years now.
I'm not sure why I haven't gotten the mammo. It is uncomfortable and wildly inconvenient, but having a colonoscopy is worse. I will get one this winter. Definitely.

One good thing our local health district has done in the past is Ladies Night. This is an evening of light appetizers, different tables set up with health and beauty sample items, a manicure station, a chair massage station, drawings for free stuff, a goodie bag to take home, and a game or two. One year they even had a bra fitting station, where you would step into the next room with a professional. You sign up beforehand, and take turns being escorted to the mammo room. The first time I attended, I met several friends there and we made an evening of it. Perhaps this is an idea y'all could share with your local health providers? Side note: DH liked when I went to these as I would bring home a few cookies and other small bites.

Called and talked to my therapist for about 5 minutes. I have never called to speak to her between appointments. They tried to get me to talk to the nurse. I said I had to talk to my therapist.
I needed her to tell me it's okay not to do some of things my sister is demanding. My therapist knows me and told me to do what I am comfortable with and nothing more.
I needed to hear her tell me this.
She did tell me if dad's funeral ends up being on Monday, she would put me on the priority wait list, which isn't offered if you call and cancel for any old reason. She said if he passes and that is what is happening, that is where I need to be and to cancel and get on the priority wait list.
I probably should not have gone on Google last night, but it reaffirmed what I think is happening and that it most likely will not take long.
There were several phone calls last night between me and sister or niece. Niece thinks my sister is in denial he is dying but she is considering taking him home to her house.

Oh no TheO! I just saw your post on the other thread. I hope that you and your sister can give each other comfort during this time. Who wants to take your Dad home, sister or niece? I know niece is a nurse. Iggy that sounds like a great idea!
This weekend
- class 1: 19 papers/Fri - insurance/Fri
- class 2: 17 papers/Sat - dentist/Sat - pharmacy/Sat - MSc: 5 reports/Sun - oral marks X ?/Sun - proof exam/Mon
- see A? DD came for lunch so my friend D said let's just postpone lunch, stay with your DD (DD's been having a very hard time lately). I was so drained that I really didn't want to mark those papers. SO relieved I did. I'm getting more on Tues and I just can't bear to see them pile up.
I emailed Job 2 to tell them I don't need their health insurance. I'll probably have to provide paperwork at some point, but for now it's off my list.

TheO - thinking of you. My mom stopped eating before her passing. She was with us for a week. It was a very difficult time seeing your parent ready to move on, but it also gave us comfort.

debthaven my sister says she will take him to her house. It will be easier for her to have him there than to be at his apartment if hospice agrees Her husband and middle son are there. Middle son is helping with the harvest but there's no propane to dry the corn so it can't be picked. DNephew teachers nearby. When mom was sick he drove home from college several times a week to see her. I'm sure he will do the same now.

TheO I hope you are comfortable enough to stay at your sister's house sometimes so you can take turns watching over/being with him. From Susana's post, hospice care seems to work amazingly fast. Wishing all of you the best during this terribly difficult time.

Sister asked the doctor if he thought dad should be moved to assisted living. He told her that he is not a candidate for assisted living. It's a nursing home or her house. Gave her a lot to think about because she argued with me yesterday when I said dad needs to be in a nursing home.
Hospice will contact her next week to get that going.
The doctor did say dad should not be living alone.

I'm glad the doctor told her that TheO. Hopefully that will make the next while a bit easier. I've spent two hours looking for an important piece of paper that I can't find. TOTALLY unlike me. I must have filed it, but Lord knows where. So I spent those 2 hours burning a ton of paperwork. I have kept all the hard copies of all of my exams, but I don't need them. So out they went. I still haven't found that important piece of paper though. Hopefully I'll find it by the end of the weekend. In the meantime I'll keep culling my school papers while I look for it.

Hope you find the important piece of paper.
Since I put off the painting today, I should start going through the boxes of stuff I hid in my extra bedroom.

I went through the photos I have scanned and put together a file to be shown at dad's funeral. I know that is coming soon and I'm so glad I have done so much scanning.
I enjoyed looking at photos of happy times, too.
