wvugurl26, I am sending lots of love your way. I completely understand what you mean about your Grandmother being the rock and leader of the family. Mine was too. You did a very courageous and loving thing being there for her. Maybe one day that will give you at least a tiny bit of comfort, knowing you were at her side and loved on her as her journey on this earth was coming to an end. I am so sorry for your loss.

The funeral home told us all the information they needed last weekend. I sent it all with my dad and uncle when they went Monday. They said some people don't know the information they ask for.
Food is all set up for Tuesday. We got my car washed so at least it's clean outside. I got my errands done to pick up the last bits and pieces I need. My new clothes for the visitation and burial are in the washer.
I did sleep last night but woke up at the usual time. Now I'm dragging.

Is there anything you HAVE to do this evening or can you just relax and rest, or even go to bed early since you are dragging? I think I can safely speak for some of the other posters here and say that we are with you in spirit, although not physically.

As soon as my laundry gets dry and my food gets here I'm taking my butt to the hotel and putting myself in bed. I have done everything that must be done today once the laundry is done.

I am sorry for your loss, wvugurl26.
I only visited with my maternal grandmother a few times as she passed away when I was maybe 8. She had a stroke and was bedridden for a couple of years before she died and could not talk. I did get to stay over night a few times before that but I was young when she was real old so did not get as much time with her as I wanted. I loved her though. I never met my paternal grandmother or grandfather, they died before I was born.
My great aunt was like my grandma and i loved her dearly, she and my uncle were wonderful. That is why I want to be near little guy. I guess his uncle and aunt will also be like his grandparents should be. Kids need that love, security, and assurance in my opinion.
I can only imagine the terrible loss you feel. My heart goes out to all of you that have lost grandparents.

We buried grandma today. Valentine's is going to suck for a long time. I guess at least it was never a thing DH and I made a big deal out of.
And I suppose for February we had exceptional weather. Low 50s and sunshine. No rain or snow.
Wednesday morning I'm going to the courthouse to file to be appointed executor of her estate. Dad and I are going to work on cleaning out her bedroom and bathroom some. We are going with the low hanging fruit first.
The DME company is supposed to come pick up the hospital bed and that stuff. I finally remembered to put the check in the mail for the last aide.
Then I'll go back home after being gone for two weeks.

If it helps, I choose to remember my mom's birthday, Feb 10th, rather than the day of her death Feb 15th. It's now been 15 years and she would have just turned 85. Please take care of yourself. The stress that you just went through is likely going to affect you physically for a while. Be kind to yourself.

I remember my mom’s birthday and day she died, not burial. But then these weren’t holidays Try to think positive and happy times

I made an appointment with the probate office. After some searching, we did find the signed original copy of the will.
Because I reside out of state and I wasn't named as executor, I have to get a bond. At least I know what I need to have for the appointment and I have next week to get that all together.

I actually have to look up the days they died, because my mind seems to block that information out.

The problem we have had is mom and dad each died on the 19th of the month and dad's birthday was on the 19th of the month. My sister and I have actually talked about this. We neither one like the 19th of the month.
I remember the birthdays, anniversary and date of death. I'm sure that's partly because I'm a genealogist.

My birthday is the 25th, our anniversary is the 28th. My dad got killed on the 27th of March between those 2 days. I couldn't celebrate either for years. 365 days in a year and at that time. Just sad.

The sun is shining but it's cold out. I have done nothing so far except put a load of clothes to washing. Will make DD breakfast and make up our bed. I need to go to the basement and start working again. However, I have a chonky cat curled up leaning against my leg asleep in what I think would be a very uncomfortable position.

I thought I was getting things done but I'm in a panic now. Maybe I should have dealt with one of the local insurance agencies. Since I now live in a different state than my grandma did, I have to obtain a probate bond in order to be the executor of her estate. I had the bright idea to see if the mega insurance company we have (USAA) wrote bonds.
They do not write them but they have someone who does for their clients. I got the application filled out and sent in. I had to call to provide my SSN because I was not sending that in an email.
Today I get questions from the underwriting consultant. I answered but I'm not convinced it's good enough. And if it's not I need them to hurry up and tell me so I can move onto plan B. I have no paperwork to provide until I'm named executor and that won't be done unless I have a bond.

Onto insurance company #3 to try and get this bond. The USAA affiliated company won't write it without court papers. I called the probate office again and they won't provide anything until I'm appointed. I can't be appointed without the bond.
I moved onto local agencies. The first one from my Google search told me to call someone else. At agency number 3 the appropriate people were at lunch.
I do have one more name I got from the law firm when I was trying to confirm if the will had been signed since we found the draft documents first.
I guess the only good part is DH says we need to get our stuff in order.

Alternative crazy thought. Have you thought about contacting a bailbonds firm in the county in which your grandmother lived? They might not write that kind of bond but may know another firm that does. Thankfully this was something I didn't have to deal with. Just other stuff! For taking it on.

The third agency did call me back. They gave me an approximate price and the application has been sent to underwriting. I should have an answer by tomorrow morning. The lady I spoke to seemed pretty knowledgeable.
I almost choked on the price. We have it so it's just annoying. $1,000 is a lot of money to some though and I feel for them.
ETA: underwriting is done and I'm approved. I can stop by Monday before my probate appointment and sign and pay.

I had no idea this hoop existed for someone to jump through. $1,000 would be out of reach for many

Thanks for posting this, its enlightening to know this can happen if the executor is in a different state than the decedent.
