Well, I had my disability hearing on Thursday. I stopped taking my meds on Tuesday because I wanted to be clear headed during the hearing. What a mistake! My anxiety blew through the roof and it was all I could do to make coherent answers to the questions. I won't know for another four to six weeks whether or not the judge determined my date of disability was earlier than SS already decided. I hope they go for the 1/1/16 date my attorney requested as that means I would get Medicare immediately.
I won't stop my meds again. At least that was a lesson learned.

This is not a fun time of the year for those affected by how much daylight there is right now. On cloudy days it's dark here around 5 pm (give or take a few minutes). I'm doing a countdown to Dec. 21st, the shortest day of the year. After that, things seem to get a bit better. One day at a time...

I know I have seasonal affective disorder.
No sun at all today and none expected tomorrow.
I tend to wallow in depression most of the winter. I hibernate.
Dad's problems are not helping this year.

I do have one of the lights. It helps some, but nothing but real sunshine alleviates it completely

My anxiety is thru the roof this week. I hate Dec. Two big work projects timelines are colliding, and I'm not feeling confident about either. Doesn't help that my family has passed around a stomach bug, can't tell if it's still lingering along with the anxiety.

Sorry, azucena. It's a tough month to try balancing demanding work and family needs. Job stresses are so draining. Have you tried making a super project plan that deals with both projects? You can write each step on a Post-it note and put them on your wall in columns by the day or even by the hour if it's beyond intense. Just a thought. Here's to great health for you, too. |

I used to ask God to give me strength to make it through each day....now I ask him to give me strength to get through each second.
I work full time and am my parent's caregiver. I demoted myself at work so I was more accessible to help my parents. I have been taking care of them for 4 years so the last 4 years of my life hasn't really been mine. The problem is that this year my brother and his daughter were off work so they decided to pitch in and "help" me with the parents. They came in and took control over everything...where they took a nap and when, what they ate, threw away some of their stuff. They helped for 5 months and then just walked off the job. Which is fine with me. My brother started a fight with my dad about 4 months ago and the last 4 months have been sheer hell. My brother and his daughter come into my parent's house and just yells and screams at them and me. My niece told me to go f myself. The rage and anger they have against my dad and I are terrifying to me. My health, emotional, and mental state is deteriorating fast.
I can't deal with this much anger. I worry every day when they will start yelling and screaming again. Some days I hope to never see either of them again. My two kids live away from me and I have no friends so I have no one I can confide in or get strength from. I feel like I am slipping each day and I don't know if I will be able to keep myself from falling into a deep depression. I hate my life right now.
My brother and his daughter always threaten to press charges against us or take us to court. He is my only sibling and this is not how I expected the end of my parent's lives to go.

Your brother and niece are being abusive to you and your parents, ilovedolphins . Can you call elder services in your area? This is dangerous for all of you. I'll be thinking of you and hope you find strength and peace going forward. I'm so sorry. Counseling for you might help a lot, too. A good counselor can help you tap into resources that you may need and help you with strategies for managing. Depression is so hard. |

I'd talk to an attorney, ilovedolphins. It might be past time to get the law involved. As in restraining order. Hang in there! We're less than 2 weeks away from the shortest day of the year. With more daylight after Dec. 21st, I know that helps me to feel better about things. |

You need to call your local elder abuse hotline. They can put you in contact with those that can help you with your situation. I would also reach out to your kids assuming you have a good relationship with them. Even though they are far away I doubt they would want their mother or grandparents in the situation you are now in. |

DHS turned my sister's information on mom and dad over to the state run Agency for Aging. It looks like we will have home health aids every week on the state's dime. Mom and dad's income is low enough that they qualify. ilovedolphins, the recommendation to call DHS is a very good one. There are multiple reasons to reach out to them for assistance. Maybe there are local or state programs your mother would qualify for. |

I feel tired. I feel weepy. I feel sad. I have been without my happy pills since Sunday and OH MY GOD!!!!!! I need them!!!! Nurse at the doctor's office is an idiot. I've spent over a week trying to get the refill so this wouldn't happen. So I can't decide if I want to sleep or cry. I haven't done a damn thing for Christmas and dealing with DH isn't making me feel all that much more jolly. More like homicidal, suicidal and sad. <<sigh>>

Oh, no, empress of self-improvement. Does she have any clue that is potentially dangerous? Psychotropics are something they typically titrate up or down rather than anything abrupt for a reason. I would be incapacitated without my meds. I really hope this is fixed for you today. |

Once your meds settle in again, can you figure out what to do to keep this from happening again? Quarterly prescriptions? Auto-refill? Mail order? A different pharmacy that calls Dr for you to request more refills?
Less than 24 hours until 12/21 for shortest day of the year. I always feel relieved once the Christmas hubbub had passed. |
