The new primary doc that I saw this spring said it's particularly difficult to diagnose thyroid problems in women because they are so intertwined with hormones. She said she wished she could submit a blood test at least once/week for an entire cycle. Made total sense to me, but of course insurance probably won't approve that. Hmm, that would have been nice to know from my doctor. I'm used to having my concerns ignored, though. Fwiw, I just switched to this dr based on several recommendations for who was best with thyroid issues. She's a little crunchy which also usually coincides with more open-minded. And, duh finishing up these follow up tests will totally take care of my remaining FSA money (another thread).

I actually like my current doctor, but it would be nice to have one that really tries to get to the root of my issues. I'm feeling decent now that I stick with the diet I developed on my own and some kind of exercise. I'm guessing people without some sort of health issues are able to feel good without those precautions, however, so there's got to be something going on.

This might sound silly but I thought I would pass it along. For in the moment anxiety attacks I have been having great success with Rescue Remedy. I decided to give it a try after experiencing horrid side effects from the prescription medications. It really works. I would not take it in place of medication nesseciarly but it does really help when in the moment.

You can buy Rescue Remedy at health food stores, Whole Foods and sometimes larger pharmacies.

Bah. Weekend went ok. Then DH fell 2x in less than 24 hours. I am not happy with him and he knows it. Jackass didn't have his cell phone on him when he fell the second time. I was at work when it happened and got to come home and find him sprawled on the floor where he had been lying for about 2 hours or so. He thinks. He apparently slid off his wheelchair because he did not have his seatbelt on and then couldn't understand why I wanted to slap him silly. Didn't help when he got weepy and told me I should leave or put him in a home. I am so tired. Even worse is, I want a drink but I'm too tired to go out and get one.

I'm sorry, empress of self-improvement . Good for you, not drinking. I hope you can find some way to get help to your DH when he needs it and you're not around. Is there any service or person who could be called who is nearby when needed? Is there some way he could wear his cell phone? Or something.

I am calling his neuro for a permanent letter of disqualification for jury duty so I may make an appt. at the same time. Maybe see about an occupational therapist because I think my arms and back are going to fall off lifting his fat ass up. 2 of his brothers and my sister have keys to the house but he's very against anyone coming to help, which really doesn't help me worth a squat but that's an argument for another day. I know the FD will come help but I still need to put a key out somewhere. Probably in the shed. He is in the 911 system so they'll know what to expect. Thankfully.

I'm so sorry Empress. My mom's falls were incredibly traumatic for me as well as for her. Can you get him a medical alert system? If he's wearing the necklace or bracelet, it can trigger a call to you whenever he falls.

Do not give in to the temptation please! I know one woman who lives alone and has 2-3 alexas on in her house to use as medical alerts. I'm pretty sure you can say something like 'alexa call empress' and it works through the wifi. I bet it could probably also call 911. The lowest model isn't too expensive and there isn't an ongoing fee unless you want music or something. Plus it might also help keep him occupied - there are all kinds of verbal games on it.

My shrink got a fax from Social Security asking him for an update on me for the reconsideration application. He had given one in February and August, so he'll add another. I hope it tells them waht they need. I'm thinking of preparing a sort of draft, to save him time.

finnime that sounds really encouraging! If you're up to it, I would do a draft, or at least notes of key things you'd like him to include. NomoreDramaQ1015 the Bach flower remedies were created in England eons ago. They are all plant-based. Rescue is very popular here! I used to buy it for my two younger kids to deal with school/exam stress (DD in college, DS3 in HS). Only the organic food stores here carry the entire range of Bach remedies (there are many!). But ALL the pharmacies carry Rescue, it's so popular. Not silly at all, a great suggestion! ETA: Edited to include link.

So..... I had another crying jag the other day while I was in the shower. I have no idea what brought it on. At least I was in the shower so DH didn't get concerned about it.
I drove yesterday for the first time in almost a year. I was anxious the whole time, but I did it! Small victories! I hadn't realized just how much the weather impacts my mental state. We've had cloudy skies and rain for more than a week. Yesterday we actually had some sun and I felt better. Not myself, but not as down as I had been. This brought on an interesting discussion with my therapist. She told me that I may never be the "old" self. That person is gone, but I should embrace the "new" self that is getting stronger. It's difficult to wrap my head around the concept because I want to be the person I was. I felt strong, ambitious, happy most of the time. It's difficult to give that person up. Just some random thoughts here. My head is spinning again today, so I'm not really making a lot of sense on deep topics.

Yeah! for driving buystoys. Managing this stuff is small steps and some lapses, I think. I agree with your therapist, that we cannot be who we were once after going through major depressive episode(s). I suspect it's true of contending with other major health issues, too. We can't unwind that clock.

Some days lately I feel like this depression battle is more of a siege, and I'm not going to prevail. From past experience I had supposed this would have been mostly gone by now, a few bad days but mostly okay to good. Not so this time. It's hard and sometimes impossible to do ordinary things still. Extras, like going to a neighborhood gathering, take a huge toll. DH continues to fill in the gaps I leave and doesn't complain; this is from me. I so much want this to be ending. Ended. I still miss me.
Plans I would make for the holidays - I'm not sure if I will be able to do them. Even with just family, I'm wobbly. Of course they'd understand if I can't go, but I want to be able.
The news creeps in, too. Cannot stomach it. I'll vote but really can't do more this time.

finnime, I understand exactly how you are feeling. DH has an appointment today and all I have to do is ride with him and then wait until he's done. I can wait in the pickup if I don't feel up to going in, but I'm dreading it anyway. I'll go with him because he's picked up so much that I can't do. It's not fair to him. I'm about ready to cry just thinking about it.

Remember when I posted a while back about gaining weight? So I had my wellness visit that work requires for a discount on health ins premiums. Um, yeah, I weigh 165 lbs. Pretty sure I started the year at 135. Damn it! Any food tracking/fitness apps? I've gotta get this under ctl.

azucena, like Chocolate Lover said My Fitness Pal is useful for a lot of people. Also Weight Watchers and I think South Beach have apps. I'm kind of a rebel so just have done my own thing tracking carbs and before that intermittent fasting. The Get Fit thread is good. Weight is temporary. Regaining sanity is priceless.

What's that? One of these days I'm going to bludgeon DH. Then I'll be sane. Anyway, I use a website called SparkPeople for my weight-loss. www.sparkpeople.com -it can be a little cheesy but I like it. Let's me keep track of steps, water and whatever else I want, really. I signed up right around when I stopped drinking. I needed the help, what can I say.
