It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

There was / is no poem attached to the Statue of Liberty. (Gee, thanks for staying on topic, instead of hollering "squirrel!") Are you even remotely familiar with this poem? Apparently not. Ms. Lazarus wrote the poem as requested for an auction to raise money for the Statue of Liberty. I'd say that's a definite connection, wouldn't you?

Based on the posts by the OP, contained in this thread, I will have to say NO, he cannot have an honest discussion about immigration.

Possible....examples? Where that many decisions reversed..? Don't think so.... Google is your friend. Just to name a quick two: Dred Scott
Plessy v. Ferguson Do a search and find probably 100 more. Not all as consequential, of course. ok...but till reversed...law of the land whether we agree and like or don't agree and dispise.. maybe in our life time or most likely not...not that easy..

"Birthright" citizenship- whatever you think about it- is beside the point. Democrats only care about immigration- legal, illegal, birthright citizenship, birth tourism, islamic jihadi 'refugees'-- the aim is watering down the traditional American culture-- replacement of natives with people predisposed to government dependency and tyranny. The want total control and Americans won't give it to them. This explains their total contempt for everyday Americans. I'm so inspired by your efforts at having an honest discussion. A breath of fresh air.

I have an honest question about this whole anchor baby thing, and I'm asking genuinely because I do not know the specifics about it.
Wasn't a man who had been in the US for 30 years just deported last week, even though he has American born children and was married to an American woman? How did he get deported if he has anchor babies, and an American wife? Is it because the children have another parent here to take care of them? If both of the parents had been illegal immigrants, would he have gotten to stay?
in the term "anchor babies" the active part is babies, not anchor. the anchor does not apply to the parents. but according to USC8.1401, the babies are US citizens. edit: the interpretation handed down through the courts is that both birthplace (jus soli) and blood (jus sanguinis). however, as tallguy correctly states, this is something that can be decided by the courts and by legislation. it is not strictly stated in ammendment 14. therefore, it is subject to change over time. CURRENTLY you can become a citizen by being born here OR being born to at least one US parent. Man was deported to Mexico...worked, raised kids ...didn't even have a motor vehicle violation ...CNN did a program on him.. I know, I know...here illegally, penalize, deport.......I realize some here and more out there have no compassion..You break the law...out you go...Even have had one poster here , not surprising to me, when I mentioned in some reply somewhere here of my next door neighbor for years..Is illegal from Peru, asking me for address so he could report him for deportation..Of course I refused...realize there are folks like him in history who would do such things.. He was not kidding, was seriouse , in fact in recent history such folks did/do much WORSE IMHO ...I alluded to them. Under our former leader, on such cases, he had given direction to those authorities charged with enforcement to not prosecute such folks, spend time on the real criminals and bad illegals in our midst..put efforts into those folks... For me, that was a good decision..He knew he didn't have votes to make those folks legal or even get Congress to tackle the question of illegals in the country so he tried to do the right thing, use common sense...right or wrong legally...I go with his call...not our new leader...

LOL...u make it sound so easy...right now have CNN on and watch the BS going on to try and keep gov't open , have a bit over a hour left...each side blaming the other..even though both want to keep gov't open...voting on....What is needed is some slapping silly of probably all....including our Donald and the hell with the SS folks with those firearms. ------------------------------------------------------------------- "But a White House official said Trump would oppose a mini-short-term agreement to keep the government open through the weekend, suggesting lawmakers would be in their exact same position in a few days. For his part, Trump described his discussion with Schumer as an "excellent preliminary meeting," tweeting that lawmakers are "Making progress - four week extension would be best!" Senate GOP leader John Cornyn of Texas said Trump told Schumer to work things out with Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan. McConnell did not attend the meeting because he was not invited, a Senate GOP aide said. Trump has been an unreliable negotiator in the weeks leading up to the showdown. Earlier this week he tweeted opposition to the four-week plan, forcing the White House to later affirmed his support. He expressed openness to extending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, only to reject a bipartisan proposal. His disparaging remarks about African and Haitian immigrants last week helped derail further negotiations. ----------------------------------------------------- Even members of GOP say have no idea of whatb our Donald really wants..he is swaying one way or the other from minute to minute...[sad]

Your reflection? As one that had become “American” using one of the little doors opened by Democrats ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/think.gif) , I’ll take a stab at defining “everyday Americans” according to OP: - chew tobaco - own a pile of guns that you have no use for - hate government and anything connected to it - hate Ofcourse taxes and find creative ways not to pay any - be a Christian- This is a must - hate anybody that doesn’t speak “English”like you( that’s a doozie) - love corn bread and baked beans - feel superior because YOU ARE!(everybody else lives in a shithole country) - if you want anything from any of those shithole countries you just send the military to take it. The natives of such country should look at our soldiers as liberators( ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/idunno.gif) ) - the poor people are poor because they are lazy The list could go on for a couple pages but I’m out of time. I got to go to work so I can pay taxes that will be used to support some true American.

There was / is no poem attached to the Statue of Liberty. (Gee, thanks for staying on topic, instead of hollering "squirrel!") Are you even remotely familiar with this poem? I am familiar with the poem, yes. The poem is not part of the statue. It was added later as part of a fundraiser to build the pedastal for the statue- which looks out, shining her light as an inspiration to other nations to not be shitholes- not because she's the porchlight on the front of a homeless shelter. Nevertheless, the sentiment of the poem does not reflect anything about United States immigration law. The poem has never been interpreted by anyone as an open door for unvetted masses of people to pour in simply because they're "tired, poor" or "your huddled masses". We will always have limited immigration, and everyone who comes in from one country necessarily takes a slot from someone else from another. It is our right and our duty then to make sure that those that come in are going to be good for this country. We are a nation, not a soup kitchen, and not a homeless shelter.

Your reflection? Now you're getting it. An everyday American is anyone Hillary Clinton has contempt for. She's the one that SAID she didn't like 'everyday Americans' during the campaign, and then later AFTER that comment was spun to say she didn't like the terminology or the words, she called half of America 'irredeemable' and 'deplorable'. We can't call shithole countries shitholes because it's insulting, but it never seems out of bounds for Democrats to insult Americans. Little Dicky as President Trump calls the honorable Senator Richard Durbin, has himself compared our troops to NAZIs or Soviets in gulags.

The bottom line is that Democrats believe Americans are too stupid, too immoral, or racistsexistbigothomophobexenophobebigotedsexist and/or rapists and pedophiles to vote right, so they want to use immigration to change the culture. They want population replacement. That is their goal. Everything else in this discussion is a distraction.

And by the way- the cat's out of the bag. The Schumer shutdown- holding 300,000,000 plus Americans hostage on behalf of 800K illegal immigrants is NOT a winning 2018 mid-term election strategy. The Democrats got baited by our very stable genius President into making 2018 a referendum on illegal immigration. And they're going to lose that gambit. ![](https://scontent-dft4-3.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/26804514_10215458921246005_6783971716922776742_n.jpg?oh=7ad2a7cd271f5c64f88a89453dc48bc4&oe=5AEEAE18)

I think this was done only for political reasons. The part i don't know is, Was this done because of Trump policies showing that they can deport any one they want or,, was this done by the other side of the political spectrum only drum up publicity showing that they have thrown out this hard working man that has a family here. I personal think it is a disgrace, that they for any reason that he was removed instead of helping him the become a permanent resident. We have so many criminals here that should be deported but were not.

GOP controls the Government...Our Donald has no idea what he wants...claims one thing , tells representatives what he wants and will do and says he'll take the political heat...The two groups get together and come to him with a bi partisan plan...he then says no plus his famous..yes he did say it..adjectives that has a whole CONTINENT and race of people p at us...plus it seems all the other countries of the world ..1st world, second world, third world...Pluto is not happy with us either... In the Donalds eyes he is omnipresent...a emperor , believes he has been anointed by G-D..."Divine right of kings.."it's his way or the highway and doesn't understand when others don't treat him that way..Has heard of the separation of powers, Constitution but really doesn't understand it.. In the now famouse tell all book it is reported that when one of the new chiefs went in to explain the constitution to him...he got to the 4th amendment and the Donalds eyes were rolling back in his head..he was pulling his lip down in confusion and lack of attention.. No, not on Schumer...try majority party and our Donald....there is your problem....
