Geez it's a book store putting up a display based on current events. Brilliant move by manager, owner, sales folks...Usually folks who go into book stores are interested in worldly things...growing them selves...experiencing new and different...willing to accept that which is new... Then u have those who would pass by such a establishment and ask themselves "I wonder what the sell there?" [Did u notice comments by someone who has never, ever posted a positive comment here ...always the negative, the downer...am sure they are the life of the party in the real world..... or not.

We spent about 10 days in Norway in 2016 (prior to November). We shared meals and lengthly conversations with a number of Norweigans. They LIKE their system. They DON't MIND paying high taxes because they get so much for those taxes. As one woman said to me, "I CARE about other people having health care and the basics. It is worth it to me to know that my neighbor's cancer will be treated". Another comment was "We would never vote for a politician who promised to lower taxes by cutting benefits to poor people". They expressed pity for Americans who are trying to save for their own retirement, pay for their childrens' college education and worry about healthcare premiums and coverage. Compasionate people, those Norweigans.

The country discovered oil in the late 1960s, and, unlike other resource-rich countries that have succumbed to mismanagement and corruption in the face of sudden wealth, invested heavily in its people and its economy to become one of the world’s wealthiest places. Its per capita gross domestic product went from $1,441.80 in 1960 to $70,911.8 now, according to World Bank data. (The U.S. figure is $57,638.20.) Norway has higher life expectancy at birth than the U.S., lower rates of infant mortality, low unemployment, and access to the European Union’s labor market (though it’s not an EU member). Additionally, Norway is the world’s happiest country (the U.S. ranks 14), the place with the most political freedom (the U.S. ranks 45), most press freedom (the U.S. ranks 43rd), and most prosperity (the U.S. ranks 18). Simply put, there’s little economic incentive for Norwegians to immigrate to the U.S. www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2018/01/trump-shithole-norway/550382/Why on earth would they want to come to the USA?

They were interviewing people in Norway on one of our news channels. The general consensus was "Why would we move to a shithole like the USA?" You have a link? Who's consensus? The people being interviewed, the interviewers, or your own consensus? I sincerely do not believe Norwegians consider the USA a shithole. And I believe many would not want to immigrate here either, but i do not want to go there either, and I do not consider it a shithole...... The poster gave u a few links....and it seems some sincerely said they don't want to come to a shit hole country...which it seems with every utterance out of his garbage mouth more and more countries are joining in the condemnation of my country..u and many of his so called base may feel we can do fine standing alone....I and most intelligent folks with half a brain, do not... Just one thing is running through my mind...with so much of our debt held off shore and now with more piling up..who is going to purchase and hold that debt and if they decide they will..why give advantage rates..especially since we are so indebted now...not such a good risk...and just say a 1/2 % increase in interest...do u have a clue what that would do to our debt or if we keep pushing China big time, they finally have had it and start calling in some of that debt they are holding...our foul mouth Donald will be over there in a shot on his knees kissing up ... I mean just think..a American POTUS bailing out of a visit to the UK , the UK of all places, not wanted...and he lies by blaming incorrectly Obama for the cancellation...truth is because he knows there will be negative demonstrations against him...Queen and Royals don't want to meet him, be in his company....doubt if he'll be invited to the wedding..[ bet I know who will be]...and all this in less then a year in office....The whole continent of Africa has he and us on their shit list...now that is really accomplishing a lot .......LOL

Norwegians have expressed solidarity with Haiti and several other African nations by saying they do not want to go to the US, describing it using the alleged words of Donald Trump as a “s***hole”. Stay classy, "Norwegians".

By "Canada", Weltz of course means herself and the distinct minority of Canadians who agree with her--most of them in Quebec, and most having resented the US for decades. I apologize for her unneighbourly behaviour.

I imagine that a lot of them would say they do not have a single opinion and are tired of being trotted out to make a political point and ignored the rest of the time. The United States has a terrible role in Haiti's history that we can conveniently ignore by yelling at Trump. The Republicans, BTW, have said they will sign no immigration deal without Trump's approval. And trump said he wiuld sign any bill brought to him.

They have a very efficient prisoner rehabilitation program, yes. The recidivism rate is very low.
Plus, it's the best place on earth for seniors.

They're not going to abandon the condos and freeze here. But just to visit? Not so much.

I know many Canadians, coast to coast, and they won't even visit the USA any more. Like me, they won't spend a dime there as long as Trump is in power. 2017 trade stats aren't out yet, but if there's been so much as a 10% drop in Canadian travel to the US and business to the US since Pres. Trump took office, I'll hug a snow leopard. And the only reason I'm hedging with 10% is because travel fluctuate that much in a given year anyway. A lot of things about the US irk Canadians, with the NAFTA posturing being one of the most recent. But these spats amount to noise in the grand scheme of US-Canada relations. I daresay there's no stronger international tie between two nations anywhere else on Earth, and that includes between member states of the EU. Incidentally, your being permitted to call other members ignorant and delusional doesn't mean you have to go around saying, "You're ignorant." and "You're delusional." like a child showing off her first swear word.

It's like you don't even know me. I never pull facts out of my ass. Pffft. A 6/7 percent MoM travel decline as of last Juin, based at least in part in the rise in the Loonie. Some "shit list". Maybe if you'd said "The US is 6% on Canada's shit list."

Norway is grappling with a lot of the same issues as the US and a lot of countries. I'm curious if they will also see a decline in support for social services as their population diversifies. It's a well known side effect. I'm surprised that the US election isn't put in a greater context. We aren't special. There are populist/anti-immigrant movements in many countries. bostonreview.net/world/sindre-bangstad-norway-populist-rightuntil the invariable reaction to that comes.

They're not going to abandon the condos and freeze here. But just to visit? Not so much. I would say at least a third of the condos in my development are owned by Canadians....As far as coming for a visit to the States...say San Francisco, NY City, New Orleans, Grand Canyon tourists and more ...I don't know...but I would expect US tourism loses from all over, probably in the billions lost...Will affect low wage workers... We can all agree, except his base, the man is a F disaster....yes of course Hillery on her worst day would have been a better choice but to late for that... His inability to ever say I made a mistake, Sorry..indicates to me a flawed human being...and he controls thousands of nuclear weapons plus delivery system.. I listen to those interviews in what they call Trump country, his base, as the Networks are trying to see if his actions and doings have changed anyone's minds..So many deplore his language, thoughts, ideas..but still would vote for him. I wonder if they actually believe as he does regarding race but don't want to be shown to feel that way..know it's not accepted by so many but down deep, that's what they believe..but would be embarrassed to be identified as such a person. As long as he is in power we are in deep doo doo...IMHO.
