Let's just put it this way, speaking to a good chunk of P/CE: Pres. Trump just declared what you yourselves have openly said about Third World nations. You'll forgive me if "How dare he let the Third World know what we think of them." doesn't rouse my anger. A single post, liked by 7 posters, only one of whom has posted on this thread, is now a "good chuck of P/CE". Yeah, no. You're quite mistaken if you think it's limited that one post. Run a search on the terms and behold YMAM in all its glory. Members expressing anger and disgust at Pres. Trump's statement are presumably doing so with the intent of convincing others to be angry and disgusted. Half the thread is posters grumbling about how Pres. Trump's supporters won't mind his lack of tact. So don't tell me nobody is asking me--and others--to get angry. And for the record, your rationale for exempting your own bad behaviour stinks. What we say on this board is part of our ambassadorship for our nations and creeds. You will be the shaper of certain persons' views of American and Americans. There's a difference in scale between our personal conduct and the conduct of our leaders, but no difference in the principles governing upright conduct.

Oh please! We all know that shithole trump supporters don't care what he said & most likely support it. That's old news, just like knowing shithole trump is a racist is very well known. My outrage is MINE and about what *I* think and feel. I don't give two shits about what shithole trumpers think anymore. They voted for a racist, IMO that makes them right there in that racist boat with him. They get to wear that badge proudly and own it.

Out of curiosity....would you have felt this same way if Obama or Clinton had made this statement, or would it all of a sudden have been a deplorable thing to say? the day i start expecting as little of my president as i do of myself is the day i die. The day I give up my ideals because I'm just a lowly peon is the day I die.

That was the example you brought forth. If you would like to dig up all instances and post them, have at it. It's still a waste of time, because it's not relevant to the discussion at hand. Which is about the POTUS, and how he conducts himself on a national stage. Or, they are expressing anger and disgust at the POTUS behaving like an ill-mannered ass, and, once again, embarrassing the country. It's really not that deep. His supports don't seem to mind his lack of tact. In fact, the appear to revel in it. No one is telling anyone to get angry. Hoping that they will, because the comments are inappropriate and unprofessional? Sure. Most non-Trump supporters have long since giving up on expecting his supporters to denounce him. My bad behavior? Please, link me to something that I have posted that you find so objectionable. ::: There's a difference in scale between our personal conduct and the conduct of our leaders::: Which is quite literally what we have been saying on this thread, but you seem to keep missing. The comments are vile no matter who says them, but random schmoe on the internet is not the same thing as the POTUS.

The comments are vile no matter who says them, but random schmoe on the internet is not the same thing as the POTUS. I'm afraid they are if they want anyone to care what they think about Pres. Trump. But fine. It seems posters are lining up to express how little they care about what the man's supporters and outside third parties think of Pres. Trump and YMAM's assessment of him. We're apparently all just screaming at the air. I certainly can't refute that.

Norweigans aren't going to give up their quality of life to move here. We don't offer even 1/10th of what they have there. They are fine paying higher taxes when they get free healthcare, free education, free day care, & EVERYONE gets a pension at 65. There's nothing here we can offer them. damn, Norway is sounding pretty good right about now! I asked my DH if we could immigrate to Norway. Or Sweden. They probably don't want American pieces of shit.

I'd probably be exotic over there. I can just affect a patois and pretend I'm from the Caribbean.

I'm a Southern gal, I'd freeze to death on day 1 in Norway or Sweden. If it gets below 50 I'm a steffsicle.

Well, it's still early but there have already been six likes for my post arguing against your interpretation, including two of your original seven. Are you going to contend that those people agree with you? My sole contention is that as many of the original nine (current seven) as are willing to criticize Pres. Trump for his breach of decorum are playing the hypocrite.

They more likely approved of the latter two sentences as I stated earlier. That some of those same people liked the post where I explained that can be taken as confirmation. They liked the post irrespective of the offending term. You are stating a correlation that does not exist.

Liking the post does not necessarily imply that they approved of the offending term used. It's not necessary that they approve of the offending term. It's sufficient that they not strongly disapprove of its use, and, as I asserted before, members do not 'like' posts containing any prominent statements of opinion they strongly disapprove of. It's a hard fact as far as I'm concerned, with perhaps a handful of exceptions over the 7-year history of our board. And to preempt the inevitable: Why is it sufficient that they not strongly disapprove? Because, by assumption, I'm speaking to the subset of the nine who are expressing strong disapproval of Pres. Trump's language.

You aren't a message board god & you don't get to make up what you THINK our reasons are. Why can't you understand that? Why do you think you are just the only one who knows anything here? Talk about an over inflated ego.

Just a couple thoughts. I liked the post Virgil linked and it was liked because of the last part as tallguy posted. As far as *hole I don't have a problem with it as a description for a crappy place to live. I do have a problem with it if used to describe the average person living there as *hitty. I don't love that the president used that term on the other hand I think that type of language is probably often used in what is thought to be a private meeting. I also wonder if the Norway reference was more because there had just been the visit ( day or two before his comment) from the Norway prime minister than about it's whiteness.

I can't wait to watch the Christian spin on Stormy Daniels and her $130,000 check. Oh and the 2nd porn star paid off for shithole trump by the owner of the Enquirer $150,000.
Yesterday evangelicals had to explain shithole to their kids, today they get porn star Stormy Daniels.
KARMA!

Frankly, I could forgive any one or two stupid things he has said. We are all human and I know they use language in private that maybe slips out. The problem is that we are on thing number 100 or more of him being a bad representative of our country internationally, and that is a problem.

I liked that post & the country I am tired of sending money to is Israel. They can easily afford to support themselves unlike some other countries. I don't have a problem with helping 3rd world countries move forward & become better. I do have a problem with a country that can easily support itself, but still takes literally BILLIONS of our tax dollars so it can be a bully in the Middle East. I would rather feed starving kids in Africa & help rebuild other countries than sending our tax dollars over to Israel so they can kill Palestinians & threaten/destabilized the Middle East. I am a supporter of Israel as a Jewish State and also believe as u do that they are beyond the point of needing those three or four billion a year , mostly military aid, for their survival...at least right now. For that matter Egypt falls in that area too...believe they get almost 2 Billion. I would still want us to be close and if needed at any time, ready to give aid again. ...As far as being a bully in the Middle East...this is a tiny, tiny State, something like the size of New Jersey if that...25 miles wide in the middle...There are cannon that can fire that far...We are ready to bomb a nuclear power and take chance of retaliation...they have been under constant attack and wars since State was formed..Better to be a bit of a bully rather then not and no longer be in existence ..IMHO of course. Till they built that wall there were weekly bombings of buses , cafes and murders...young, old..kids..who ever rides busses, goes to cafes, restaurants, weddings, bar Mitzvah's.... Hopefully some day there will be a real peace here. Palestinians were offered one some years ago that would have given them 98% of what they wanted..they backed away...Arafat chickened out....Supposedly he was afraid he would be assassinated if he accepted it, like Sadat of Egypt was after signing the peace treaty with Begin. He probably would have been. .. The Israeli PM who offered it, that peace treaty, was assassinated by a hardline Jewish settler of the West Bank...Arafat should have taken the chance and bit the bullet..taken one for his people..The guy wimped out...There would be a peace now on the best terms they will ever see..

dj: the day i start expecting as little of my president as i do of myself is the day i die. virgil: The day I give up my ideals because I'm just a lowly peon is the day I die.
since i have never considered myself lowly, i can only imagine how much life must suck for you.
you have my sympathies. good luck with them ideals.
edit: i think you are getting thrown off by "as little". if "less" helps you understand my point, use that.

I recall various posts saying otherwise, so I would suggest you are flat wrong there. Maybe those that I recall are among your exceptions, but I would guess it is more prevalent than you would admit. Here is one specific to the discussion from a few posts ago: In a way, I feel sorry for you, Virgil. You seem to live in a black-and-white world. The world isn't that way. There are myriad shades of grey. They are particularly difficult to distinguish if one is wearing ash-colored glasses to begin with.

there are a couple of descriptions of Europe that i think about often.
one is the way the French treat maternity. when you have your baby, the state hires a nanny, so that you can go out shopping without having to leave your child home alone. they continue to do so until your child is ambulatory. and, of course, you have PAID maternity leave. that's right. you earn your income while you stay home. i call that pro-woman. i call that pro-family. i call than humane.
then there is Italy. workers are encouraged to GO HOME for lunch break, so that they can spend a nice leisurely couple of hours in the middle of the day with their spouse or family. and then, of course, there are the month+ long vacations. those must really suck.
we have our priorities totally fucked up here, imo. and yeah, i plan on doing something about it.
