So, I've been following along but not posting. Even participating in the Stridekick challenge. Last night the button on the side of my Fitbit fell off. It's outside of the warranty period so they won't replace. I can't seem to get a Fitbit to last longer than 18 months. Fitbits seem to be pretty shoddy. Mine didn't last but a year either. If I were to replace it, it would be with a garmin.

As far as Fitbits go, I'm on my second generic tracker. Both were under $30. The first lasted at least a year, maybe 18 months. The second one has been going strong for about nine months so far. I believe both ones I've had do everything the Fitbits do. Unless you really believe in the name brands, you might want to check out one of the million generics out there. Then it's not so bad if they die after a year or so.
I'm finally getting myself back on track. Did three days of weights and got in 83,000 steps this week. The battery in my scale died, and I keep forgetting to buy a new battery, but my clothes feel the same, so I don't think my weight has changed.
This week's goals: 80,000 steps, stretch goal of 85,000 Three days of weights One hike Maintain weight
Have a great week!

Had a better week. Missed step goal by less than 11,500. Did a little strength training three times. Tracked food for 3 days.
Keeping step goal at 70,000. Three strength training attempts. Work on making them a little longer. Track food.
Keep up the good work everyone and have a great week.

Have any of you made a lifestyle change that you felt like noticeably increased your energy levels? I feel like I've been low energy my whole life, and I really need to break out of the rut.

I've felt better the last week or so despite having a sinus infection/bronchitis again!! Getting the new AC installed and sleeping more were my changes. I know it's very tough to sleep well with a little one but going from 6 or so hours a night to a solid 7 has been amazing for me.

My weight loss has really been what's helped me. The first step was cutting out sugar, soda more than anything. It's hard and you have to attack it in small changes and then add on, but it's worth it.

I'm in a sugar coma. I've been eating birthday cake for the last week and I think I may have finally hit my limit. So of course my mom called today and wants to bring MORE cake this weekend when we get together for family birthday celebration.
I definitely need to get back to the gym to work some of this off. It's always my busy time at work, and I have no actual time to get to the gym if I want to actually sleep this week. Sooo, I guess I'll just bury my head in the sand and hope I do better next week?

I'm not sure if the keto diet will work for me. A little too much prep and too different from everything else we eat. Even just to do for 6-8 weeks, work is finally picking up, I'm busy with school. I feel like I need to spend all weekend prepping and cooking so that everyone would be able to eat during the week and I'm just not there right now. I don't feel like my staple meals are the problem, and the idea of counting carbs in vegetables (even through mfp) makes me want to vomit.
So I'm not sure what my plan right now is, because what I've been doing isn't working either. I really didn't like my doctors new nutritionist. My GP has a newer nutritionist I haven't seen either so maybe I'll give her a shot. I could cut my calories to 1200 a day. Or do the "slow carb" plan again which I actually like even if the author is a tool. Eat beans/lentils with every meal, but cut out grains, fruits and dairy except for one day a week. Admittedly last time I got pregnant on that plan, but I didn't have a problem with gaining weight adding those things back in. (I gained weight after I had the baby and went back to work).

rae - what are you doing now that's not working? i couldn't handle keto either. I belong to a local online moms group where a woman once posted "What diets work for you? I don't want to count calories, or carbs. Or do meal prep. Or work out very much." And it was like, well, neither does anyone, really, but she's proactively eliminated almost all potential weighs to lose weight. If there was a magic diet that avoided all of those things Im sure we would all be on it already!

I refuse to follow a certain diet. I just try not to eat a bunch of crap. Some days I do better than others. I cut out soda, anything fried, red meat and find less caloric options on some things. Like mustard instead of mayonnaise etc.
Does that mean I never have those things? Absolutely not. I have them in moderation. I try to eat healthy and work out during the week. On the weekends I do what I want. I can have those other things, but I don't binge on them. I also have a love of beer which I indulge (sometimes a little too much) on the weekends too. All you really need to do is be mindful of what you eat. I'm not tracking food or counting calories. That's just me.
I also push pretty hard during my workouts because I am not dieting. But working out depends on what you like to do and what you are trying to accomplish.

But working out depends on what you like to do and what you are trying to accomplish. I think this is a really smart way to approach it. And even though I lose weight when I track calories (and gain when I don't), I try to follow the guidelines above. Like yesterday, I ate a lot of cake. Like a lot. Because it was free at work, and free food is my kryptonite. But I refuse to feel bad about it. Instead, I went swimming and then ate a healthy dinner. I was over my calorie allotment for the day, but whatever. I ate some yummy food, I moved my body in a way that makes me feel great, and I ate a delicious dinner. That's a damn good day, no matter what calories may look like. Today I'm just sore because I used my swimming paddles and my shoulders are acccccching.

I'm hoping in the next couple of months to have a better idea of what finances are going to look like with it just being me. I'm going to pay for some sessions with a trainer. I want to lift heavy weights and I'll need to be able to do so using correct form so I don't hurt myself. I think a few sessions is all I'll need.

I have been trying to eat better, eat less and move more. We've been trying to plan meals and eat at home more. Yes, some diets may drop a bunch of weight off me but that's not setting me up for the long term. The meal planning is much more successful with a functioning AC installed.
If MD could quit acting like it's Seattle, the moving more would also be more successful.
And I learned about diets the hard way when I was too sick to sit upright one morning. Not to mention I would have cut someone for a carb.

So about a year and a half ago I began to lose weight. First I did the intermittent fasting (2-3 days a week I went to 500 calories), then after 7 months went to lower carb. It took about a year to lose 40+ pounds. I've kept it off in part by watching carbs and staying to about 50 or so most days. That is net carbs, subtracting the fiber from the total. It's easy once you get a feel for where to take care.
My DH just asked me if I thought carbs might help with my depression. I looked it up and it does seem there is evidence that very very low carbing (25 or less grams) is associated with low moods and bitchiness. I've decided to work a few more carbs in my diet. I'm going to keep it at about 50 3 days a week and the others, 100. I don't want to gain weight. And some meds I'm taking are associated with weight gain. I'm sure I can work in ice cream regularly, though. That can't hurt, right?
I cook quite a bit, so have more control over what we are actually eating. Looking at a week at a time rather than trying to manage every single day works better for me. Balance higher with lower carbs. I'm going to note how I feel and see if there's a discernible pattern.

I was the queen beyotch when doing low carb. It was not pretty. And with blood sugar a little on the low side at times, it was an ugly combination in the end.

Trying to go as close to zero as possible. No fruit, no bread, no pasta, no milk, no beer, etc. The sad irony is I would kill to be that weight again. I needed more toning than weight loss back then.

Calories at 1400 a day roughly. At least it averages out about that per week with some days really high and some days under. At least 210 minutes of good trackable exercise a week that includes cardio and strength. I've tried to up my protein and fiber. Fiber I do pretty well at. At least 20 grams at day. Protein is only really good on days I go over on total calories (and have really high fat days--which I don't track or watch but have noticed the correlation in MFP). This seems to be my new reality for maintenance which is so depressing. So I've pretty much thrown in the towel this week while I think things over.

At class today sensei stopped me because dh and I are grading. I think she expected me to be more excited but I really like my white belt. I feel like they'll expect me to know something now. Lol.
Dh will be out of town for the next grading ceremony though, so I'll wait another month till he's back so we can do it together. It's been a great family activity, and the dojo and the people there just feel like like home.

Weekly check in
Missed step goal by 7200. Only did strength training twice. Food choices could have been better.
Keeping step goal at 70000. Strength train 3 times.

Super sore from class tonight. Weapons was awesome. I worked with a teenager who hasn't been going much longer than us, but was super timid when we started and tonight was a total transformation. Her confidence level was just amazing and she was great. She taught me a ton. It was so neat to see. Unarmed dh and I worked together and it was all break falls and wrist grips (which were already sore from some locks we did in weapons). So my legs are shaking from exhaustion and my wrists ache from being locked up. All in all, great night, definitely tired.
Camping earlier in the week and man if every bathroom break (for me and both kids) and meal was a quarter mile walk with a good amount of incline thrown in just for fun I'd be in great shape.

I buy every imaginable fitness equipment to get in shape and then I just lose interest so my house looks like a gym sometimes. But I have found that the one thing I like to do the most is Leslie Sansone walking videos. So I am going to stick to them and see if they help. I have wanted the Miracle Miles since it came out and never bought it so I bought it the week before last and have used it for the last week. I have been doing the 5 mile walk every other day.

That's awesome Dolphins! Walking is something I never want to lose the ability to do so I try to make it my first priority in fitness.
